With the rapid development of sixth-generation (6G) communication technology, global communication networks are moving towards the goal of comprehensive and seamless coverage. In particular, low earth orbit (LEO) satellites have become a critical component of satellite communication networks. The emergence of LEO satellites has brought about new computational resources known as the \textit{LEO satellite edge}, enabling ground users (GU) to offload computing tasks to the resource-rich LEO satellite edge. However, existing LEO satellite computational offloading solutions primarily focus on optimizing system performance, neglecting the potential issue of malicious satellite attacks during task offloading. In this paper, we propose the deployment of LEO satellite edge in an integrated satellite-terrestrial networks (ISTN) structure to support \textit{security-sensitive computing task offloading}. We model the task allocation and offloading order problem as a joint optimization problem to minimize task offloading delay, energy consumption, and the number of attacks while satisfying reliability constraints. To achieve this objective, we model the task offloading process as a Markov decision process (MDP) and propose a security-sensitive task offloading strategy optimization algorithm based on proximal policy optimization (PPO). Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm significantly outperforms other benchmark methods in terms of performance.

The detection of GW170817/GRB170817A implied the strong association between short gamma-ray bursts (SGRBs) and binary neutron star (BNS) mergers which produce gravitational waves (GWs). More evidence is needed to confirm the association and reveal the physical processes of BNS mergers. The upcoming High Altitude Detection of Astronomical Radiation (HADAR) experiment, excelling in a wide field of view (FOV) and a large effective area above tens of GeV, is a hope for the prompt detection of very-high-energy (VHE; > 10 GeV) SGRBs. The aim of this paper is to simulate and analyse GW/SGRB joint detections by future GW detector networks in synergy with HADAR, including the second generation LIGO, Virgo and KAGRA and the third generation ET and CE. We provide a brief introduction of the HADAR experiment for SGRB simulations and its expected SGRB detections. For GW simulations, we adopt a phenomenological model to describe GWs produced by BNS mergers and introduce the signal-noise ratios (SNRs) as detector responses. Following a theoretical analysis we compute the redshift-dependent efficiency functions of GW detector networks. We then construct the simulation of GW detection by Monte Carlo sampling. We compare the simulated results of LIGO-Virgo O2 and O3 runs with their actual detections as a check. The combination of GW and SGRB models is then discussed for joint detection, including parameter correlations, triggered SNRs and efficiency skymaps. The estimated joint detection rates are 0.09-2.52 per year for LHVK network with HADAR under different possible configurations, and approximately 0.27-7.89 per year for ET+CE network with HADAR.

The rapid advancement of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), exemplified by companies like Waymo and Cruise offering 24/7 paid taxi services, highlights the paramount importance of ensuring AVs' compliance with various policies, such as safety regulations, traffic rules, and mission directives. Despite significant progress in the development of Autonomous Driving System (ADS) testing tools, there has been a notable absence of research on attributing the causes of driving violations. Counterfactual causality analysis has emerged as a promising approach for identifying the root cause of program failures. While it has demonstrated effectiveness in pinpointing error-inducing inputs, its direct application to the AV context to determine which computation result, generated by which component, serves as the root cause poses a considerable challenge. A key obstacle lies in our inability to straightforwardly eliminate the influence of a specific internal message to establish the causal relationship between the output of each component and a system-level driving violation. In this work, we propose a novel driving violation cause analysis (DVCA) tool. We design idealized component substitutes to enable counterfactual analysis of ADS components by leveraging the unique opportunity provided by the simulation. We evaluate our tool on a benchmark with real bugs and injected faults. The results show that our tool can achieve perfect component-level attribution accuracy (100%) and almost (>98%) perfect message-level accuracy. Our tool can reduce the debugging scope from hundreds of complicated interdependent messages to one single computation result generated by one component.

All vehicles must follow the rules that govern traffic behavior, regardless of whether the vehicles are human-driven or Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). Road signs indicate locally active rules, such as speed limits and requirements to yield or stop. Recent research has demonstrated attacks, such as adding stickers or projected colored patches to signs, that cause CAV misinterpretation, resulting in potential safety issues. Humans can see and potentially defend against these attacks. But humans can not detect what they can not observe. We have developed an effective physical-world attack that leverages the sensitivity of filterless image sensors and the properties of Infrared Laser Reflections (ILRs), which are invisible to humans. The attack is designed to affect CAV cameras and perception, undermining traffic sign recognition by inducing misclassification. In this work, we formulate the threat model and requirements for an ILR-based traffic sign perception attack to succeed. We evaluate the effectiveness of the ILR attack with real-world experiments against two major traffic sign recognition architectures on four IR-sensitive cameras. Our black-box optimization methodology allows the attack to achieve up to a 100% attack success rate in indoor, static scenarios and a >80.5% attack success rate in our outdoor, moving vehicle scenarios. We find the latest state-of-the-art certifiable defense is ineffective against ILR attacks as it mis-certifies >33.5% of cases. To address this, we propose a detection strategy based on the physical properties of IR laser reflections which can detect 96% of ILR attacks., Comment: The first two authors are co-first. Emotional Voice Conversion aims to manipulate a speech according to a given emotion while preserving non-emotion components. Existing approaches cannot well express fine-grained emotional attributes. In this paper, we propose an Attention-based Interactive diseNtangling Network (AINN) that leverages instance-wise emotional knowledge for voice conversion. We introduce a two-stage pipeline to effectively train our network: Stage I utilizes inter-speech contrastive learning to model fine-grained emotion and intra-speech disentanglement learning to better separate emotion and content. In Stage II, we propose to regularize the conversion with a multi-view consistency mechanism. This technique helps us transfer fine-grained emotion and maintain speech content. Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) task aims to enable AI agents to accurately understand and follow natural language instructions to navigate through real-world environments, ultimately reaching specific target locations. We recognise a promising opportunity to extend VLN to a comparable navigation task that holds substantial significance in our daily lives, albeit within the virtual realm: navigating websites on the Internet. This paper proposes a new task named Vision-and-Language Navigation on Websites (WebVLN), where we use question-based instructions to train an agent, emulating how users naturally browse websites. Unlike the existing VLN task that only pays attention to vision and instruction (language), the WebVLN agent further considers underlying web-specific content like HTML, which could not be seen on the rendered web pages yet contains rich visual and textual information. Toward this goal, we contribute a dataset, WebVLN-v1, and introduce a novel approach called Website-aware VLN Network (WebVLN-Net), which is built upon the foundation of state-of-the-art VLN techniques. Experimental results show that WebVLN-Net outperforms current VLN and web-related navigation methods. We believe that the introduction of the new WebVLN task and its dataset will establish a new dimension within the VLN domain and contribute to the broader vision-and-language research community. A continuous motion planning method for connected automated vehicles is considered for generating feasible trajectories in real-time using three consecutive clothoids. The proposed method reduces path planning to a small set of nonlinear algebraic equations such that the generated path can be efficiently checked for feasibility and collision. After path planning, velocity planning is executed while maintaining a parallel simple structure. Key strengths of this framework include its interpretability, shareability, and ability to specify boundary conditions. Its interpretability and shareability stem from the succinct representation of the resulting local motion plan using a handful of physically meaningful parameters. Vehicles may share these parameters via V2X communication so that the recipients can precisely reconstruct the planned trajectory of the senders and respond accordingly. The proposed local planner guarantees the satisfaction of boundary conditions, thus ensuring seamless integration with a wide array of higher-level global motion planners. In Autonomous Driving (AD), real-time perception is a critical component responsible for detecting surrounding objects to ensure safe driving. While researchers have extensively explored the integrity of AD perception due to its safety and security implications, the aspect of availability (real-time performance) or latency has received limited attention. Existing works on latency-based attack have focused mainly on object detection, i.e., a component in camera-based AD perception, overlooking the entire camera-based AD perception, which hinders them to achieve effective system-level effects, such as vehicle crashes. In this paper, we propose SlowTrack, a novel framework for generating adversarial attacks to increase the execution time of camera-based AD perception. We propose a novel two-stage attack strategy along with the three new loss function designs. Our evaluation is conducted on four popular camera-based AD perception pipelines, and the results demonstrate that SlowTrack significantly outperforms existing latency-based attacks while maintaining comparable imperceptibility levels. Furthermore, we perform the evaluation on Baidu Apollo, an industry-grade full-stack AD system, and LGSVL, a production-grade AD simulator, with two scenarios to compare the system-level effects of SlowTrack and existing attacks. Cooperative perception for connected and automated vehicles is traditionally achieved through the fusion of feature maps from two or more vehicles. However, the absence of feature maps shared from other vehicles can lead to a significant decline in 3D object detection performance for cooperative perception models compared to standalone 3D detection models. This drawback impedes the adoption of cooperative perception as vehicle resources are often insufficient to concurrently employ two perception models. To tackle this issue, we present Simultaneous Individual and Cooperative Perception (SiCP), a generic framework that supports a wide range of the state-of-the-art standalone perception backbones and enhances them with a novel Dual-Perception Network (DP-Net) designed to facilitate both individual and cooperative perception. In addition to its lightweight nature with only 0.13M parameters, DP-Net is robust and retains crucial gradient information during feature map fusion. As demonstrated in a comprehensive evaluation on the V2V4Real and OPV2V datasets, thanks to DP-Net, SiCP surpasses state-of-the-art cooperative perception solutions while preserving the performance of standalone perception solutions., Comment: Accepted by IROS 2024

Deep learning-based natural language processing (NLP) models, particularly pre-trained language models (PLMs), have been revealed to be vulnerable to adversarial attacks. However, the adversarial examples generated by many mainstream word-level adversarial attack models are neither valid nor natural, leading to the loss of semantic maintenance, grammaticality, and human imperceptibility. Based on the exceptional capacity of language understanding and generation of large language models (LLMs), we propose LLM-Attack, which aims at generating both valid and natural adversarial examples with LLMs. The method consists of two stages: word importance ranking (which searches for the most vulnerable words) and word synonym replacement (which substitutes them with their synonyms obtained from LLMs). Experimental results on the Movie Review (MR), IMDB, and Yelp Review Polarity datasets against the baseline adversarial attack models illustrate the effectiveness of LLM-Attack, and it outperforms the baselines in human and GPT-4 evaluation by a significant margin. In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT), the retrieval of relevant medical information has become essential for efficient clinical decision-making. This paper introduces MedFusionRank, a novel approach to zero-shot medical information retrieval (MIR) that combines the strengths of pre-trained language models and statistical methods while addressing their limitations. The proposed approach leverages a pre-trained BERT-style model to extract compact yet informative keywords. These keywords are then enriched with domain knowledge by linking them to conceptual entities within a medical knowledge graph. Experimental evaluations on medical datasets demonstrate MedFusion Rank's superior performance over existing methods, with promising results with a variety of evaluation metrics. MedFusionRank demonstrates efficacy in retrieving relevant information, even from short or single-term queries.

While neutrino oscillations have led to attention and research on field mixing arising from quadratic interactions, the field mixing inherent in clothed particles is more fundamental, serving as a significant source of complexity and non-perturbative challenges in quantum field theory. We present an example of an analytical solution for field mixing involving a three-point interaction between a bosonic field and a fermionic field. Specifically, we study the Rothe-Stamatescu (RS) model and utilize lattice regularization to provide a well-defined Hamiltonian which is absent in the original continuous RS model. Due to the complexity introduced by three-point interactions compared to quadratic interactions, the Fock representation commonly used in discussions of field mixing does not work well; instead, we define a representation based on real space to investigate the physical vacuum and clothed particles. In this paper, we study the nonlinear stability for the 3-D plane Poiseuille flow $(1-y^2,0,0)$ at high Reynolds number $Re$ in a finite channel $\mathbb{T}\times [-1,1 ]\times \mathbb{T}$ with non-slip boundary condition. We prove that if the initial velocity $v_0$ satisfies $\|v_0-(1-y^2,0,0)\|_{H^{4}}\leq c_0 Re^{-\frac{7}{4}}$ for some $c_0>0$ independent of $Re$, then the solution of 3-D Naiver-Stokes equations is global in time and does not transit away from the plane Poiseuille flow. The performance of existing supervised neuron segmentation methods is highly dependent on the number of accurate annotations, especially when applied to large scale electron microscopy (EM) data. By extracting semantic information from unlabeled data, self-supervised methods can improve the performance of downstream tasks, among which the mask image model (MIM) has been widely used due to its simplicity and effectiveness in recovering original information from masked images. However, due to the high degree of structural locality in EM images, as well as the existence of considerable noise, many voxels contain little discriminative information, making MIM pretraining inefficient on the neuron segmentation task. To overcome this challenge, we propose a decision-based MIM that utilizes reinforcement learning (RL) to automatically search for optimal image masking ratio and masking strategy. Due to the vast exploration space, using single-agent RL for voxel prediction is impractical. Therefore, we treat each input patch as an agent with a shared behavior policy, allowing for multi-agent collaboration. Furthermore, this multi-agent model can capture dependencies between voxels, which is beneficial for the downstream segmentation task. Experiments conducted on representative EM datasets demonstrate that our approach has a significant advantage over alternative self-supervised methods on the task of neuron segmentation. We show that it is possible to learn an open-loop policy in simulation for the dynamic manipulation of a deformable linear object (DLO) -- e.g., a rope, wire, or cable -- that can be executed by a real robot without additional training. Our method is enabled by integrating an existing state-of-the-art DLO model (Discrete Elastic Rods) with MuJoCo, a robot simulator. We describe how this integration was done, check that validation results produced in simulation match what we expect from analysis of the physics, and apply policy optimization to train an open-loop policy from data collected only in simulation that uses a robot arm to fling a wire precisely between two obstacles. This policy achieves a success rate of 76.7% when executed by a real robot in hardware experiments without additional training on the real task., Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures

Embedding-based retrieval methods construct vector indices to search for document representations that are most similar to the query representations. They are widely used in document retrieval due to low latency and decent recall performance. Recent research indicates that deep retrieval solutions offer better model quality, but are hindered by unacceptable serving latency and the inability to support document updates. In this paper, we aim to enhance the vector index with end-to-end deep generative models, leveraging the differentiable advantages of deep retrieval models while maintaining desirable serving efficiency. We propose Model-enhanced Vector Index (MEVI), a differentiable model-enhanced index empowered by a twin-tower representation model. MEVI leverages a Residual Quantization (RQ) codebook to bridge the sequence-to-sequence deep retrieval and embedding-based models. To substantially reduce the inference time, instead of decoding the unique document ids in long sequential steps, we first generate some semantic virtual cluster ids of candidate documents in a small number of steps, and then leverage the well-adapted embedding vectors to further perform a fine-grained search for the relevant documents in the candidate virtual clusters. We empirically show that our model achieves better performance on the commonly used academic benchmarks MSMARCO Passage and Natural Questions, with comparable serving latency to dense retrieval solutions.

Collaborative perception, which greatly enhances the sensing capability of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) by incorporating data from external resources, also brings forth potential security risks. CAVs' driving decisions rely on remote untrusted data, making them susceptible to attacks carried out by malicious participants in the collaborative perception system. However, security analysis and countermeasures for such threats are absent. To understand the impact of the vulnerability, we break the ground by proposing various real-time data fabrication attacks in which the attacker delivers crafted malicious data to victims in order to perturb their perception results, leading to hard brakes or increased collision risks. Our attacks demonstrate a high success rate of over 86% on high-fidelity simulated scenarios and are realizable in real-world experiments. To mitigate the vulnerability, we present a systematic anomaly detection approach that enables benign vehicles to jointly reveal malicious fabrication. Einstein field equations are notoriously challenging to solve due to their complex mathematical form, with few analytical solutions available in the absence of highly symmetric systems or ideal matter distribution. However, accurate solutions are crucial, particularly in systems with strong gravitational field such as black holes or neutron stars. In this work, we use neural networks and auto differentiation to solve the Einstein field equations numerically inspired by the idea of physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). By utilizing these techniques, we successfully obtain the Schwarzschild metric and the charged Schwarzschild metric given the energy-momentum tensor of matter. In this paper, we provide an experimental proof-of-concept of this dynamic 3D current manipulation through a 3D-printed reconfigurable meta-radiator with periodically slotted current elements. By utilizing the working frequency and the mechanical configuration comprehensively, the radiation pattern can be switched among 12 states. Inspired by maximum likelihood method in digital communications, a robustness-analysis method is proposed to evaluate the potential error ratio between ideal cases and practice. Our work provides a previously unidentified model for next-generation information distribution and terahertz-infrared wireless communications.

In 3D Referring Expression Segmentation (3D-RES), the earlier approach adopts a two-stage paradigm, extracting segmentation proposals and then matching them with referring expressions. However, this conventional paradigm encounters significant challenges, most notably in terms of the generation of lackluster initial proposals and a pronounced deceleration in inference speed. Recognizing these limitations, we introduce an innovative end-to-end Superpoint-Text Matching Network (3D-STMN) that is enriched by dependency-driven insights. One of the keystones of our model is the Superpoint-Text Matching (STM) mechanism. Unlike traditional methods that navigate through instance proposals, STM directly correlates linguistic indications with their respective superpoints, clusters of semantically related points. This architectural decision empowers our model to efficiently harness cross-modal semantic relationships, primarily leveraging densely annotated superpoint-text pairs, as opposed to the more sparse instance-text pairs. In pursuit of enhancing the role of text in guiding the segmentation process, we further incorporate the Dependency-Driven Interaction (DDI) module to deepen the network's semantic comprehension of referring expressions. Using the dependency trees as a beacon, this module discerns the intricate relationships between primary terms and their associated descriptors in expressions, thereby elevating both the localization and segmentation capacities of our model. Comprehensive experiments on the ScanRefer benchmark reveal that our model not only set new performance standards, registering an mIoU gain of 11.7 points but also achieve a staggering enhancement in inference speed, surpassing traditional methods by 95.7 times.
