This article presents a personal tribute to Ted Mitchell, director of the Thomas Wolfe Festivals. It is stated that Mitchell traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, the hometown of novelist Thomas Wolfe, after reading the book "Look Homeward, Angel." It notes that Mitchell worked on anything related to Wolfe which include conducting research and writing books. It also mentions that the death of Mitchell was an incalculable loss because he was the greatest champion of Wolfe.

Terry McLaughlin's death earlier this year came as a devastating shock to all his many friends. He will be remembered by all as a gifted scholar whose lifelong commitment to education was etched in his every thought, word and deed. The list of his achievements in the educational world is a long, honourable and deeply distinguished one, including a notable period of editorial duty on CJE from 1992 to 2003. Terry will be remembered with profound affection and respect by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. For each one of us, his memory will forever be a joy, and his example an enduring inspiration. The article reports on the proceedings from the annual general meeting of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) 2004. The meeting held in the James Hay Theatre at the Christchurch Town Hall on Wednesday 12 May 2004. The President in the Chair, Phillip Boyce, announced the death of certain members since the last Annual General Meeting and Fellows stood in respectful silence. Dr. Johanna Lammersma referred the meeting to her written report as Honorary Secretary as printed in the 2003 Annual Report previously circulated by post to all members.

According to the author he knew coming into the job of editor of the journal Language that he would spend considerable time on articles and reviews, but one aspect that has surprised him somewhat is the number of obituaries that he had overseen in his two-plus years as editor. He simply had not given much thought to obituaries before this. However, he had found them to be intriguing and compelling pieces that have drawn him into a consideration of the history of the field and of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA), prompting these thoughts. Ideas and data have a permanence that a person does not; they live on long beyond their formulator, creator, collector, or codifier. It is partly for that reason, the author believes, that it is important to recognize people by means of obituaries, a type of contribution to this journal that has an interesting history of its own. In the early days of the journal and of the LSA, obituary notices appeared in the journal for all members of the LSA and were often just brief reminders of details of a person's life; they were part of the regular Notes and Personalia section of the journal. Perhaps a bit curiously, as the LSA had not had much time to gain members let alone lose them, obituaries began with the very first issue in the spring of 1925; the first obituary notice was of Henry Alfred Todd, a member who died six days after giving a paper at the first LSA meeting.

In this article the author presents his grief on the death of literary scholar Richard S. Kennedy, focusing on his works. He was a great contributor in the study of works of the poet and writer Thomas Wolfe. He was a critic of the highest order. Forty-one years after the publication of his book, "The Window of Memory" remains the most useful critical work on Thomas Wolfe. The book gives the reader invaluable insights into how the whole body of Wolfe's writing evolved, including the plays, the novels, and the short fiction.
