Earlier studies have demonstrated that the Northeastern Brazilian region (NEB) has the most abundant solar energy resource of the Brazilian territory due to its geographical location, and its environmental characteristics. However, the spatial and seasonal variability was little evaluated. This work investigated the surface solar irradiation variability and trends based on a statistical analysis of the ground data acquired in automated weather stations operated by the Brazilian Institute of Meteorology. A data quality control procedure was accomplished according to WMO criteria to avoid suspicious data. The results pointed out a remarkable variability in seasonal and annual scales. The cluster analysis provided five regional patterns presenting quite interesting temporal complementary regimes for the incoming solar irradiation. The surface solar irradiation achieves the highest values in the Southeastern area of NEB and the lowest in the Western area during the austral summer. The annual and seasonal trends of the surface solar irradiation were investigated using the Mann-Kendall method and the Sen technique. The surface solar irradiation in the Southeastern area of NEB is decreasing by 50 Wh/m2/year since 2008. On the other hand, it is increasing around 40 Wh/m2/year in the semi-arid area at the same timeframe.

No presente estudo foi utilizado o índice de precipitação normalizada (SPI) para identificar e carecterizar os eventos extremos secos na Amazonia, que ocorreram entre os anos de 1979 à 2014. Além disso, foi avaliada a evolução temporal destes eventos e quantificada a dimensão das áreas afetas pelos mesmos. Os resultados mostraram que a seca de 1998 foi uma das mais intensas (SPI médio igual a -1,69) no período estudado. Contudo, pesquisas caraterizaram os anos de 2005 e 2010 como as duas secas mais intensas do século. Desta forma, também foi realizado um estudo comparativo entre essas secas. Sugere-se que o impacto das secas de 2005 e 2010 seja uma resposta as secas ocorridas em 1993-1994 e 1997-1998, uma vez que, apesar dos anos seguintes apresentarem eventos de chuvas as condições das secas ocorridas na década de 90 foram tão graves que a flortesta não foi capaz de se recuperar totalmente. The State of Sao Paulo in Southeast Brazil experienced during the 2012/2013 summer one of the most severe electrical storm events in recent years, causing various impacts to society, e.g. fires and fatalities. Thus, the objective of this work is to understand which mechanisms and climatic variability modes are associated with the lightning incidence during this summer in this region. The study includes a statistical-temporal assessment of cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning occurrence comprising the 16 years period from 1999 to 2014. The results showed that, for this period of analysis, the lightning incidence was associated with climatic patterns connecting the tropical and extratropical region, through a wave train, from the Indian Ocean to South America, favouring the formation and development of convective storms over Southeast Brazil.

Resumo O presente estudo objetiva determinar Regiões homogêneas do SPI-6 na Amazônia Oriental e analisar as principais características dos eventos secos e chuvosos em cada região. Para o cálculo do SPI, utilizou-se dados de precipitação de 72 postos pluviométricos distribuídos na Amazônia Oriental. Além disso, aplicou-se o Agrupamento Hierárquico de Ward para determinar as Regiões Homogêneas e a Análise Fatorial em Componentes Principais (ACP) para determinar os principais padrões de variabilidade climáticas associados aos eventos secos e chuvosos. Os resultados obtidos pela Análise de Agrupamento mostraram a existência de três Regiões Homogêneas em relação ao SPI-6: RH-1 (litoral), RH-2 (central) e RH-3 (sul). De modo geral a região do litoral apresentou mais eventos secos que chuvosos. Nas demais regiões (central e sul) a situação é inversa, isto é, existem mais eventos de chuva, porém com pouca duração. Por meio da ACP verificou-se que os eventos secos e chuvosos na Amazônia Oriental estavam associados, principalmente, a variabilidade climática dos oceanos Atlântico (Gradiente do Atlântico) e Pacífico (ENOS). Abstract This paper aims to determine homogeneous regions of the SPI-6 in the Eastern Amazon and analyze the main characteristics of dry and rainy events in each region. For the calculation of the SPI, we used rainfall data of 72 rainfall stations distributed in the eastern Amazon. Furthermore, were used Ward hierarchical grouping to identify homogeneous regions and the Principal Components Factor Analysis (PCA) to determine the main climate variability patterns associated with dry and rainy events. The results showed three homogeneous regions (HR): HR-1 (coast), HR-2 (central region) and HR-3 (south). Generally, the coastal region showed more dry events than rain. In the other regions (central and south) the situation is reversed, i.e, there are more rain events, but with short duration. The results obtained by PCA showed that the dry and wet events in Eastern Amazonia were associated, mainly, to climate variability associated the Atlantic Ocean (Atlantic Dipole) and Pacific Ocean (ENSO).

Nas últimas décadas, o clima da Terra vem apresentando mudanças no seu comportamento, através do aumento da frequência de eventos climáticos extremos, associado muito provavelmente às mudanças climáticas globais, cujo tema tornou-se popular e motivo de discussão do público em geral. Neste contexto, o presente estudo apresenta uma análise das frequências dos eventos extremos de seca e chuva na Amazônia baseada em séries de precipitação mensal de quatro bancos de dados: GPCP (Global Precipitation Climatology Project), GPCC (Global Precipitation Climatology Center), CPC (Climate Prediction Center) e Era-Interim, no período de 1979 a 2014. Os eventos extremos de seca e chuva foram caracterizados pelo índice de precipitação padronizada (SPI) aplicado a diferentes escalas temporais (3, 6 e 12 meses). Os resultados mostraram diferenças expressivas nas frequências dos eventos extremos de seca e chuva, nos quatro bancos de dados. Todavia, constatou-se nas três escalas do SPI, em todas as estações do ano e nos quatro bancos de dados que, a Amazônia apresentou frequências de eventos extremos de chuva variando entre 3% a 6% no período em estudo. Por outro lado, observou-se nos eventos extremos de seca uma variação superior a 6% das frequências. A B S T R A C T In recent decades, the Earth's climate has been showing changes in their behavior by increasing the frequency of extreme climatic events, most likely associated to global climate change, whose theme became popular and point of discussion the general public. In this context, this study presents an analysis of the frequency of the extreme dry and rainy events in the Amazon based on monthly rainfall series of four databases GPCP (Global Precipitation Climatology Project), GPCC (Global Precipitation Climatology Center), CPC (Climate Prediction Center) e Era-Interim in the period 1979-2014. The extreme dry and rainy events were characterized by Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) being applied to different time scales (3, 6 and 12 months). The results showed expressive differences in the frequency of extreme dry and rainy events in the four databases. However, it was noted in the three scales of SPI, in all seasons and in the four databases that Amazon presented frequencies of extreme rainy events ranging from 3% to 6% in the study period. In this study, we used the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) to identify and to characterize the dry extreme events in the Amazon region. The results showed that the drought of 1998 was the most intense (SPI average equal to -1.69) in the period from 1979 to 2014. However, some papers have characterized the years 2005 and 2010 as the two largest droughts of the century. Thus, it was also carried out a comparative study of these droughts. The results showed that the drought 1998 was more intensive and extreme than the droughts of 2005 and 2010, although droughts of 2005 and 2010 lasted longer than 1998 due to oceanic and atmospheric conditions with influencing to cause greater social and economic impacts. Furthermore, it is suggested that the impact of the 2005 and 2010 droughts is a response from the dry occurred in 1993-1994 and 1997-1998.

O conhecimento da distribuicao espacial e temporal da precipitacao, bem como da qualidade de diferentes conjuntos de dados disponiveis, sao extremamente necessarios para subsidiar estudos observacionais e tambem para a validacao de modelos de previsao numerica de tempo e clima. Desta forma, este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a consistencia dos dados de precipitacao provenientes do GPCC, uma vez que, este conjunto possui a maior serie continua de dados de precipitacao (de 1901 ate o presente), por meio de inter comparacoes com outros dados de precipitacao mensal: GPCP, CPC e Era-interim. Neste estudo o GPCP foi considerado como referencia, pois consiste na combinacao e incorporacao de estimativas de chuva baseadas na combinacao de informacoes de satelite com postos pluviometricos locais. Os resultados mostraram que o padrao sazonal de precipitacao foi semelhante nos quatro bancos de dados, porem as diferencas foram notadas no quantitativo de precipitacao sazonal estimada em cada fonte de dados. Alem disso, as precipitacoes mensais do GPCC apresentaram valores de vies e RMSE pequenos para as quatros estacoes do ano, quando comparados com os dados do CPC e Era-Interim. Vale destacar que os dados do GPCP utilizam dados do GPCC e por isso os erros sistematicos sao menores. A B S T R A C T The knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation, as well as the quality of different database available, are extremely necessary to support observational studies and also for the validation of numerical weather and climate prediction models. Thus, this study aims to investigate the consistency of rainfall data from the GPCC, since this databse has the largest continuous series of precipitation data (from 1901 to the present), through inter comparisons with other monthly rainfall database: GPCP, CPC and Era-interim. In this study GPCP was considered as a reference because it consists of the combination and incorporation of rainfall estimates based on the combination of satellite information with local rainfall stations. The results showed that the seasonal precipitation pattern was similar in the four databases, however differences were noted in the quantitative seasonal precipitation estimated in each database. In addition, the GPCC monthly precipitations presented small bias and RMSE values for the four seasons, when compared to the CPC and Era-Interim database. Em virtude da atual preocupação em relação ao aumento na frequência de eventos de descargas atmosféricas, dado aos impactos que este fenômeno pode causar, o presente trabalho apresenta uma análise da identificação dos eventos climáticos extremos de descargas atmosféricas sobre o Estado de São Paulo, nas escalas anual e sazonal. Para isso, foram utilizados dados da Rede Integrada Nacional de Detecção de Descargas Atmosféricas (RINDAT) e da Rede Brasileira de Detecção de Descargas Atmosféricas (BrasilDAT) compreendendo o período de 16 anos (1999 a 2014). Os eventos extremos foram determinados a partir da aplicação da técnica dos percentis. Além disso, também foi avaliada a variabilidade espacial e a tendência da incidência de descargas. A dinâmica espacial revelou que no período de maior atividade elétrica, as descargas tendem a se concentrar no centro-leste do Estado e no período de menor atividade elétrica, sobre o sudoeste. Na escala anual e nas estações de verão e outono, os eventos extremos ocorreram principalmente a partir do ano de 2009, com tendências de aumento da incidência de descargas, com significância estatística acima de 90%. A B S T R A C T Given the current concern about the increase in the frequency of lightning events, due to the impact that this phenomenon can cause, this paper presents an analysis using the identification of extreme climatic events of lightning on the State of São Paulo, for the annual and seasonal the scales. For this, we used data from the Integrated National Lightning Detection Network (RINDAT) and the Brazilian Lightning Detection Network (BrasilDAT) for the period of 16 year, from 1999 to 2014. The extreme events were determined using the technique of Percentiles. Furthermore, it was also evaluated the spatial variability and the trend in the discharge incidence. The spatio-dynamical analysis revealed that during period of greatest electrical activity, discharges tend to be concentrated in the center-east of the state, and for the period of lower electrical activity on the southwest. At the annual scale and the summer and autumn seasons, extreme events occurred mainly from 2009 onwards, with increasing trends in the incidence of lightning with statistical significance above 90%. O Sudeste do Brasil é uma região intrinsecamente dependente do regime pluviométrico, visto que, este subsidia diversos setores da economia, como a agricultura e hidrelétricas, tornando de grande importância o estudo desta variável, a fim de prover a identificação compreensão de sua dinâmica ao longo do tempo. Desta forma, nesta pesquisa objetivou-se analisar a dinâmica temporal dos eventos extremos secos e chuvosos mais expressivos no Sudeste do Brasil, através do Índice de Precipitação Normalizado (SPI). Para isto, utilizaram-se dados mensais de precipitação do GPCP, no período de 1979 a 2014. Além disso, foi investigada as tendências destes eventos secos e chuvosos sobre a Região e a relação destes com os padrões de baixa frequência. Os resultados mostraram que a década de 80 apresentou o maior evento extremo de chuva. Por outro lado, observou-se na década de 2010 o maior evento extremo de seca. As análises das tendências evidenciaram tendências decrescentes nos valores do SPI-3, 6 e 12 meses, indicando desta forma diminuição (aumento) dos eventos chuvosos (secos). Além disso, estes eventos apresentaram uma elevada dependência com os índices dos fenômenos de baixa frequência. A B S T R A C T Brazil's Southeast region is intrinsically dependent on the rainfall regime, this variable benefits many sectors of the economy such as agriculture and hydropower, playing a huge role in the study of this variable, in order to provide identification and understanding its dynamic over time. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the temporal dynamics of the extreme dry and rainy events more expressive in Brazil's Southeast, through the Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI). For this, we used monthly data of precipitation from Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) database in the period 1979-2014. In addition, we investigated the trends of these dry and rainy events over the study area and their relationship with the low-frequency patterns. The results showed that the 80s had the highest extreme rainy event. Moreover, it was observed in the 2010s the highest extreme dry event. The trend analyzes showed decreasing trends in the values of SPI-3, 6 and 12 months, indicating a decrease (increase) of rainy events (dry). In addition, through multivariate analysis it was found that the dry and rainy events over Brazil's Southeast are directly related with low-frequency patterns. Operational records of power outages of the electric energy distribution systems in eastern Amazonia presented a large number of events attributed to lightning strikes, during the 2006 to 2009 period. The regional electricity concessionary data were compared to actual lightning observations made by SIPAM's LDN system, over two areas where operational sub systems of transmission lines are installed. Statistical relations were drawn between the monthly lightning occurrence density and the number of power outages of the electric systems for both areas studied. The results showed that, although with some delays between these variables peaks, the number of power disruptions has a tendency to follow the behavior of the lightning occurrence densities variations. The numerical correlations were positive and may be useful to the transmission lines maintenance crews at least for the Belém-Castanhal electricity distribution sub system. Evidence was found, that the SST's over certain areas of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, influence convection over the area of interest, and may help to prognosticate the periods of intense electric storms, requiring repair readiness for the regional electric systems. Os registros de desligamentos dos sistemas de distribuição de energia elétrica, na Amazônia oriental, apresentaram um grande número de eventos atribuídos à incidência de raios, durante o período de 2006 a 2008. Dados da concessionária regional de energia foram comparados com observações de raios feitas pelo sistema de detecção do SIPAM sobre áreas que abrangem dois subsistemas de linhas de transmissão. Relações estatísticas, entre a densidade mensal de ocorrência de raios e o número de desligamentos dos sistemas elétricos, foram deduzidas para ambos os subsistemas estudados. Os resultados mostraram que apesar de alguns atrasos entre os picos dessas variáveis e o número de desligamentos de energia apresentam uma tendência de acompanhar as variações das densidades de eventos de raios. As correlações numéricas foram positivas e podem ser úteis às equipes de manutenção, pelo menos para o subsistema de Belém-Castanhal. Evidência foi encontrada de que anomalias de TSM, sobre certas áreas dos oceanos Pacífico e Atlântico, influenciam a convecção sobre a área de interesse, e consequentemente, podem ajudar a prognosticar os períodos de intensas tempestades, que necessitam de prontidão para reparos dos sistemas elétricos regionais.

Given the high and increasing lightning incidence over the Southeast of Braziland the various impacts that this phenomenon generates to society, there is agrowing need in predicting its occurrence, in order to minimize its consequences.In this context, this work presents the development of a methodologyfor the projection of lightning in the State of São Paulo (Southeastern Brazil),using the HadGEM2-ES and CSIRO-Mk3.6 models in two IPCC climatechange scenarios: RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. Since lightning is not an output variableof climate models, tests were carried out to evaluate the relationship betweenthe observed data of oceanic and atmospheric fields, which are knownas outputs of the models, and the lightning from the RINDAT and BrasilDATdetection networks. As result, a correlation of 0.84 was obtained. In the projections,it was verified that, while during a large portion of the current climatewe observed events of lightning below the average, the future climatereveals the preponderance of anomalously above average events, both in thescenario of intermediate-low emissions (RCP4.5) and in the scenario of highemissions (RCP8.5), suggesting a change in the pattern of the lightning incidencein the State of São Paulo. O método da Análise Fatorial em Componentes Principais e dos Agrupamentos Hierárquicos foram utilizados para determinar os padrões principais de variabilidade temporal e espacial, assim como identificação dos grupos homogêneos, da precipitação no Estado do Pará. Para isso utilizaram-se dados mensais de 72 postos pluviométricos distribuídos no Estado do Pará. As três primeiras Componentes Principais explicaram 92,91% da variância total dos dados mensais de precipitação. O Primeiro padrão espacial definiu áreas de chuva que são influenciadas pela atuação da Zona de Convergência Intertropical (ZCIT). O segundo padrão espacial está associado a sistemas transientes ou até mesmo da Zona de Convergência do Atlântico Sul que favorecem as chuvas na região no final da primavera e no início do verão austral. Já o terceiro padrão espacial evidencia a influência da atuação da ZCIT, das linhas de instabilidade e da convecção local. Identificaram-se e caracterizaram-se três regiões homogêneas (RH-1, RH-2 e RH-3) em relação à variabilidade sazonal de precipitação no Estado do Pará. A RH-1 ocupa as porções noroeste-nordeste do Estado com maior volume pluviométrico, a RH-2 está situada na região central do Pará e a RH-3 localizada no sudoeste-sudeste do Estado com menor índice pluviométrico. A B S T R A C T The methods of the Principal Component Factor Analysis and the Hierarchical Cluster were used to determine the mains patterns of temporal and spatial variability, as well as to identify homogeneous groups, of rainfall in the State of Pará. For this the data for 72 rainfall posts were used, where were distributed in the State of Pará. The first three Principal Component explained 92.91% of the total variance of monthly rainfall data. The first spatial pattern defined rainfall areas that are influenced by the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). The second spatial pattern is associated with transient systems or even South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) that favors rainfall in the region in the late spring and early summer austral. The third spatial pattern shows the influence by ITCZ activity, squall lines and local convection. This study identified and characterized three homogeneous regions (HR-1, HR-2 and HR-3 ) in relation to the seasonal variability of precipitation in the State of Pará. The RH-1 occupies the northwest and northeast portions of the state with the largest volume rainfall , the RH- 2 is located in the central region of Pará and RH- 3 located in the southwest - southeast of the state with lower rainfall. Com o objetivo de avaliar o Índice de Ocorrência de Geada (IOG), ferramenta utilizada pelo modelo ETA 15 km do Centro de Previsão de Tempo e Estudos Climáticos (CPTEC), foram analisados eventos de geada na Região Sul do Brasil. Na avaliação do modelo, observou-se que este apresentou algumas divergências e convergências em relação aos horários e localidades de suas previsões, as mesmas acabaram influenciando no desempenho da previsão, resultando em melhores resultados quando houve convergência entre os horários e menores desempenhos quando ocorreu as maiores divergências. O modelo apresentou menor desempenho de 59% de acertos e melhor desempenho de 90% de acertos. Vale ressaltar que a maioria dos erros ocorreram por superestimativa. Abstract Aiming to evaluate the occurrence of Frost Index (IOG), a tool used by the ETA model 15 km Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC) were analyzed frost events in Southern Brazil. Surface synoptic maps, satellite imagery and information with observational data of the occurrence of frost from the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) were analyzed. The results showed that the frosts for the studied period occurred due to the presence of a post-frontal anticyclone, which caused low temperatures and absence of clouds, conditions leading to the formation of frost. In evaluating the model, we found that it showed some divergences and convergences in relation to the times and locations of their predictions, they ended up influencing the performance of the prediction, resulting in better outcomes when there was convergence between the schedules and smaller performances, when occurred the major differences. The model showed lower performance, with 59% of accuracy and better performance, with 90% of success. It is noteworthy that most of errors occurred for overestimation.

Estudou-se o efeito da brisa maritima na cidade de Belem –PA atraves de dados de precipitacao, intensidade e direcao do vento horizontal, para os meses representativos dos periodos chuvoso (fevereiro, marco e abril) e menos chuvoso (setembro, outubro e novembro) nos anos de 2005 e 2006. Neste trabalho a tecnica de Analise em Componentes Principais (ACP) foi introduzida com o objetivo de explicar a estrutura de dependencia entre a evolucao sazonal da chuva com direcao e intensidade do vento. Observou-se que a precipitacao diaria e mais regular na estacao chuvosa quando comparada com a estacao menos chuvosa. Com relacao ao vento horizontal, notou-se que em ambos os anos e estacoes a intensidade do vento apresenta comportamento temporal semelhante.No caso da direcao do vento, notou-se giro diario no vento local, em ambas estacoes, devido aos efeitos das circulacoes de brisa maritima e lacustre. A tecnica de ACP permitiu evidenciar a relacao de dependencia da precipitacao com o vento horizontal. Dessa maneira, podemos afirma que o maximo de precipitacao observado esta relacionado ao giro horizontal o qual esta ligado a brisa maritima e lacustre. To try explaining the dependence structure among the seasonal rain evolution with wind intensity and direction is used the Principal Components Analysis (PCA ). In this paper has been observed that the daily precipitation rate is more frequent in the rainiest season than driest season. Regarding the horizontal wind , it has been noted that in both years (2005 and 2006) and seasons ( rainiest and driest season ) the wind intensity showed similar temporal behavior . In the case to wind direction has been noted a wind shift in all days over both season. It was due the effects of sea breeze and lake circulations . The technique ACP is highlighted the dependence of precipitation with horizontal wind . Thus , we can say that the maximum rainfall observed is related to horizontal wind shift . A climatologia de mesoescala das descargas atmosfericas pode apresentar expressivas variacoes em seu interior, devido a influencia de determinados aspectos fisiograficos ou antropicos que podem interferir nas trocas energeticas ou transporte de massa da circulacao local, diferenciando a formacao e atuacao de subsistemas convectivos. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho e de identificar regioes homogeneas (RH’s) de incidencia de descargas atmosfericas no Estado de Sao Paulo, por meio da mineracao de dados, com uso da tecnica estatistica de analise de cluster. Para isso, serao utilizados dados das redes de deteccao de descargas atmosfericas RINDAT e BrasilDAT, compreendendo o periodo do verao entre os anos de 1999 a 2014. Os resultados revelaram a existencia de seis RH’s, no Estado, com maxima densidade sobre a RH4 (regiao metropolitana de Sao Paulo – RMSP) composta em sua maioria por cobertura de solo com areas construidas e elevacao em torno de 800 m, e minimos sobre a RH6 (oeste do Estado), compreendendo uma regiao mais arborizada e plana. Apesar da RH4 ser expressivamente menor em dimensoes geograficas que a RH6, as tendencias revelaram magnitudes semelhantes entre ambas, o que mostra o potencial das tempestades eletricas sobre a RMSP, visto que, esta e expressivamente menor que a RH6. Thus, the objective of this work is to identify homogeneous regions (HR’s) of incidence lightning in the State of Sao Paulo, through data mining, using the statistical technique of cluster analysis. For this, data of lightning detection networks RINDAT and BrasilDAT will be used, comprising the sumer period between 1999 to 2014. The results revealed the existence of six HR's in the State, with maximum density on HR4 (Metropolitan Region of Sao Paulo - MRSP) composed mostly by ground cover with built-up areas and elevation around 800 m, and minimum on RH6 (west of the State), comprising a region more wooded and flat. Although the RH4 be significantly smaller in the geographical dimensions than RH6, trends showed similar magnitudes between both, which shows the potential of electrical storms on the MRSP, since this is significantly lower than the HR6 . Em virtude da atual preocupacao em relacao ao aumento na frequencia de eventos de descargas atmosfericas, dado aos impactos que este fenomeno pode causar, o presente trabalho apresenta uma analise da identificacao dos eventos climaticos extremos de descargas atmosfericas sobre o Estado de Sao Paulo, nas escalas anual e sazonal. Para isso, foram utilizados dados da Rede Integrada Nacional de Deteccao de Descargas Atmosfericas (RINDAT) e da Rede Brasileira de Deteccao de Descargas Atmosfericas (BrasilDAT) compreendendo o periodo de 16 anos (1999 a 2014). Os eventos extremos foram determinados a partir da aplicacao da tecnica dos percentis. Alem disso, tambem foi avaliada a variabilidade espacial e a tendencia da incidencia de descargas. A dinâmica espacial revelou que no periodo de maior atividade eletrica, as descargas tendem a se concentrar no centro-leste do Estado e no periodo de menor atividade eletrica, sobre o sudoeste. Na escala anual e nas estacoes de verao e outono, os eventos extremos ocorreram principalmente a partir do ano de 2009, com tendencias de aumento da incidencia de descargas, com significância estatistica acima de 90%. For this, we used data from the Integrated National Lightning Detection Network (RINDAT) and the Brazilian Lightning Detection Network (BrasilDAT) for the period of 16 year, from 1999 to 2014. The extreme events were determined using the technique of Percentiles. Furthermore, it was also evaluated the spatial variability and the trend in the discharge incidence. The spatio-dynamical analysis revealed that during period of greatest electrical activity, discharges tend to be concentrated in the center-east of the state, and for the period of lower electrical activity on the southwest. At the annual scale and the summer and autumn seasons, extreme events occurred mainly from 2009 onwards, with increasing trends in the incidence of lightning with statistical significance above 90%. Apos analise de 51 anos de dados de precipitacao (1961-2011) foi observado que em abril de 1984 houve um elevado volume pluviometrico, sobre uma area propicia a ocorrencia de desastres naturais no Nordeste do Brasil, Salvador, capital do estado da Bahia. O acumulado de 889,8 mm caracterizou este evento climatico como extremo e causou diversos impactos a cidade. Com o objetivo de estudar peculiaridades meteorologicas que caracterizaram este caso, o presente trabalho faz uma analise das condicoes atmosfericas associadas. Os resultados mostraram que nos tres meses que antecederam abril de 1984, as anomalias de TSM foram superiores a 0,5°C na area tropical do oceano Atlântico Sul, uma condicao que favorece a evaporacao e, consequentemente, o aumento do teor de umidade da atmosfera. No mes de abril, a area de difluencia na periferia leste da Alta da Bolivia, posicionada ao norte de 15°S, na area central da America do Sul, influenciou o Nordeste do Brasil. Paralelamente, ventos alisios de sudeste anomalamente fortes atuaram na Bahia e area oceânica proxima, uma condicao que favorece o aumento do transporte de calor e umidade para o continente. Esse conjunto de fatores indica a presenca de condicoes favoraveis ao levantamento na coluna de ar abaixo de 200 hPa e o desenvolvimento de conveccao profunda na area de Salvador. The accumulated 889.8 mm, characterizing this climate event as extreme and causing many impacts to the city. Thus, this paper analyzes the atmospheric conditions associated with this case. The results showed that in the three months before April 1984, SST anomalies were greater than 0.5°C in the tropical area of the South Atlantic Ocean, a condition which favors the evaporation and the increase of atmospheric moisture content. In April, area of diffluence on the eastern periphery of the Bolivian high, located north of 15°S, in the central area of South America, influenced the Northeast of Brazil. In parallel, southeast winds anomalously strong influenced in Bahia and nearby ocean, a condition that favors the increase of heat and moisture transport to the continent. These factors indicate the presence of favorable conditions to uplift the air column below 200 hPa and development of deep convection in Salvador . Em virtude da atual preocupacao em relacao ao aumento na frequencia de eventos de descargas atmosfericas, dado aos impactos que este fenomeno pode causar, o presente trabalho apresenta a segunda parte da identificacao de eventos climaticos extremos de descargas atmosfericas sobre o Estado de Sao Paulo, composto pela escala mensal e revela a conclusao da frequencia de eventos extremos em multiplas escalas de tempo. Para isso, foram utilizados dados da Rede Integrada Nacional de Deteccao de Descargas Atmosfericas (RINDAT) e da Rede Brasileira de Deteccao de Descargas Atmosfericas (BrasilDAT) compreendendo o periodo de 16 anos (1999 a 2014). Os eventos extremos foram determinados a partir da aplicacao da tecnica dos percentis. Alem disso, tambem foi avaliada a variabilidade espacial e a tendencia da incidencia de descargas. Por meio da analise mensal foi possivel identificar peculiaridades da escala sazonal, como a mudanca do padrao espacial de alta concentracao de descargas entre a estacao de maior e menor atividade eletrica, que ocorre em maio e outubro/novembro. De todas as estacoes, o outono foi a unica que apresentou tendencias crescentes em todos os meses analisados. O estudo apontou tambem que, a frequencia dos eventos extremos de descargas vem aumentando nos ultimos anos, com aproximadamente 60% dos casos entre os anos de 2009 e 2014, sugerindo que descargas atmosfericas, esta mais suscetivel a ocorrencia de eventos climaticos extremos. The extreme events were determined using the technique of Percentiles. Furthermore, it was also evaluated the spatial variability and the trend in the discharge incidence. Through monthly analysis it was possible to identify peculiarities of the seasonal scale, as the spatial pattern change of high concentration of discharges between the highest and lowest electrical activity season, which takes place in May and October/November. Of all seasons, the fall was the one that showed increasing trends in all months. The study also pointed out that the frequency of extreme events of discharges has increased in recent years, with approximately 60% of cases between the years 2009 and 2014, suggesting that lightning is very sensitive to the occurrence of extreme climatic events . O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar a eficiência do modelo RegCM4 em reproduzir as precipitações sazonais sobre a Amazônia no clima atual (1979-2014), com referência ao conjunto de dados do GPCP. De maneira geral, os resultados mostraram que o RegCM4 reproduziu de maneira satisfatória os padrões sazonais de precipitação na Região. Contudo, as análises quantitativas demonstraram que o RegCM4 apresenta erros sistemáticos de subestimativa (viés negativo) no verão e outono, e superestimava (viés positivo) no inverno e primavera. Além disso, foi investigado o desempenho do modelo em reproduzir os padrões anômalos sazonais de precipitação. Os resultados demonstraram uma boa concordância entre as anomalias de chuva observadas e simuladas no período estudado.

Dada a grande incidencia de descargas atmosfericas e aos diversos tipos de danos proporcionados por tal fenomeno no estado de Sao Paulo, o presente trabalho dedica-se a analise das descargas atmosfericas do tipo nuvem-solo durante o verao. Com base nos dados da Rede Integrada Nacional de Deteccao de Descargas Atmosfericas (RINDAT) e da Rede Brasileira de Deteccao de Descargas Atmosfericas (BrasilDAT) para o periodo de 16 anos (1999 a 2014), foram analisados os padroes espaco-temporais e identificados os eventos extremos das ocorrencias de descargas. A tendencia da incidencia de descargas foi calculada utilizando o metodo nao parametrico de Mann-Kendall, e os eventos extremos foram determinados usando a tecnica dos Percentis. Os resultados da analise da variabilidade espacial mostraram que ha uma alta concentracao de descargas na regiao centro-leste do estado. Observou-se que ha uma tendencia crescente da incidencia de descargas, com significância estatistica de 90%. Atmospheric radiation components (incident and reflected solar radiation, incoming and outgoing long wave radiation) and net radiation flux, were measured by sensors installed at 52 m height above ground, over Caxiuana’s forest, in eastern Amazonia. A data logger sampled these variables at 30 minutes intervals producing two sets of data. The first corresponding to a three month (March to May) period of the local rainy season and the second collected during the dry season (August to October) of 2005. This experiment allowed to determine the whole radiation average balance over this native forest site, and to point out the differences of hourly behaviors of the variables for different seasons. Comparisons between the results of this study and others performed at other forest and pasture sites in the Amazon were made. An evaluation of the performance of empiric equations derived by other authors, to estimate the long wave atmospheric radiation, was made, considering the measured values of this variable, during selected cloudy and clear sky days.

O Índice de Precipitação Normalizada (SPI) é utilizado para quantificar o déficit e/ou excesso de precipitação nas múltiplas escalas de tempo. Ele tem se mostrado bastante útil no monitoramento da precipitação, principalmente pela sua flexibilidade, simplicidade de cálculo e interpretação. Desta forma este estudo tem como objetivo quantificar os eventos extremos secos e chuvosos na cidade de Belém-PA nas escalas de tempo de 3, 6 e 12 meses por meio do SPI. Para isto, utilizaram-se dados mensais de precipitação provenientes da estação meteorológicas de superfície do INMET no período de 1980-2011. Os resultados mostraram que a escala de tempo do SPI é inversamente proporcional à frequência dos eventos de chuva e seca. Os SPIs 3,6 e 12 mostraram mais eventos secos do que chuvosos para a cidade e a maioria dos eventos de chuva e seca estavam associados, principalmente, ao fenômeno ENOS. ABSTRACT The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is used to quantify the deficit/ excess rainfall at multiple time scales. It has been very useful in monitoring of precipitation, mainly because of its flexibility, ease of calculation and interpretation. Thus this study aims to quantify the extreme wet and dry events in the city of Belém-PA in time scales of 3, 6 and 12 months by SPI. For this, we used monthly precipitation data from meteorological station at the INMET in the period 1980-2011. The results show that the timescale of the SPI is inversely proportional to the frequency of rain and dry events. The SPIs 3.6 and 12 showed driest events that rainy events to the city and most of the rainfall and drought events were associated, mainly, with the ENSO phenomenon.
