6. Identification of benthic habitat types of the Çanakkale Strait coast using the European Nature Information System and the Barcelona Convention habitat classification schemes.

Abstract

The Çanakkale Strait is important in terms of its location within the Turkish Straits System and its biodiversity. Since it is a Special Environmental Protection Area (SEPA), it is important to determine the existing habitat types. Although the use of European Nature Information System (EUNIS) and Barcelona Convention (BC) habitat classification systems in marine habitat studies has just begun in Türkiye, studies using these systems have been carried out in numerous countries over many years. This study aimed to identify habitat types in the supra-, medio- and upper infralittoral (down to 0.5 m depth) zones of the Çanakkale Strait, in accordance with the EUNIS and the BC classifications. The SACFOR abundance scale was applied to zoo- and phytobenthic species in determining these habitat types. Field studies were carried out in soft and hard substrate areas at 16 stations between May and August 2019. Fourteen marine benthic habitat types have been determined using EUNIS and 12 using the BC systems from rock, biogenic, coarse and sand sediment types. No statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) was found between the benthic marine habitat types determined for the supra- and upper infralittoral zones according to BC and EUNIS. On the contrary, in the mediolittoral zone, a statistically low significant difference was found between habitat types for both habitat classification systems (R = 0.318, p = 0.004 for EUNIS; R = 0.514, p = 0.001 for BC). In this study, the differences and similarities of habitat types in defined EUNIS and BC systems are discussed. The EUNIS habitat classification system was found to be more representative than BC of the studied area, but both classification systems were found to be insufficient for the Eastern Mediterranean littoral communities and a new habitat hierarchy is needed. 22. Effects of mucilage on the benthic crustacean in the North Aegean Sea.

Abstract

The mucilage (sea-snot) event during autumn 2020 in the Marmara Sea turned into a major disaster, carried by winds and currents passing the Çanakkale Strait (Dardanelles), Turkey, and extending to the North Aegean Sea, threatening tourism and fisheries. This study aims to compare the peracarid crustacean diversity in Gökçeada Island, the North Aegean Sea, in 2010/2012, before the mucilage disaster, and in 2021 after the disaster. Samples were collected using a 20 × 20 cm quadrat as three replicates from hard substrate at 0.5 m and at 5 m depth during the summer season at five stations. All samples were sorted through 0.5 mm sieves. Water quality were assesed in 2012 and 2021 for physico-chemical properties. As a result, the number of species and specimens, richness and diversity values of all stations (except Yıldız Koy) decreased dramatically in 2021. The species composition of Yıldız Koy station, located in the northern shore of the island, with no intense mucilage presence, was evaluated as a reliable indicator of organic matter increase. The study revealed that mucilage adversely affected the peracarid assemblages, important for the marine ecosystem in the southern shore of Gökçeada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Yilmaz, Elif Can/0000-0002-6011-9949 WOS: 000436522600029 This study was carried out to provide detailed information on species diversity and community structure of Gokceada Salt Lake Wetland (brook feeding the lake, neighboring sea and terrestrial area around the wetland). Aquatic species diversity (algae, invertebrates, and fish) at 9 different stations in freshwater, brackish water and marine ecosystems, and terrestrial species diversity (plants, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) in the surrounding wetland were studied seasonally in 2016. A total of 195 taxa of terrestrial vascular flora and 134 species of aquatic flora (97 species of phytoplankton, 37 species of benthic algae); a total of 23 macrobenthic invertebrate taxa from the lake and 131 invertebrate species from the sea were identified. Also, 4 fish, 14 reptiles, 3 amphibians and 71 bird species were observed in the study area. While one species of phytoplankton was determined as a new record for the Turkish aquatic flora, a total of 71 marine invertebrate species were reported for the first time in the marine fauna of Gokceada. The obtained data will not only provide a solid basis to expand the understanding of the island's ecosystem, but also will serve as an important tool in the action plans for wetland conservation. 25. On the discovery of Crithe cossinea T. Cossignani, 1997, a new marine alien species for the Mediterranean Sea, with additions and remarks on 15 unreported molluscan species from Turkey coast

Abstract

The whole molluscan assemblages along the Turkish coasts of the Aegean Sea and the Levantine Sea (Southern Turkish coasts), were studied from 20 stations at depths ranging from 11 m to 69 m, between August and October 2014. This has resulted in new contribution to Mediterranean marine molluscan fauna. Crithe cossinea is a new lessepsian for the Mediterranean Sea, five Gastropoda (Melanella alba, Mangelia callosa, Mangelia tenuicosta, Clathromangelia loiselieri, Raphitoma bicolor) are new records for Turkish Seas, two Gastropoda (Ondina obliqua, Retusa nitidula) are new records for the Aegean Sea while another two Gastropoda (Alvania hispidula, Vexillum hypatiae) are new records for the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea and four Gastropoda (Cerithiopsis fayalensis, Bela menkhorsti, Raphitoma aequalis, and the alien species Monotygma fulva) are new records for the Turkish coasts of Levantine Sea. Among Bivalvia species, Thyasira alleni is a new record for both seas and Pitar mediterraneus is a new record for the Turkish coasts of Levantine Sea. The present study contributes to molluscan fauna of Turkish waters by the addition of six more species, increasing their number to 1076.

Abstract

Dikkat eksikliği ve hiperaktivite bozukluğu (DEHB)'na eşlik eden çok sayıda diş sağlığı sorunu tanımlanmaktadır. Bunların başında travmatik diş kırıkları, çürük veya dolgulu diş için artmış risk, kötü ağız hijyeni gelir. Bu çalışmamızda travmatik diş kırıkları etyolojisinde önemli etkisi olan maloklüzyon bozukluklarında DEHB belirtilerini taramayı planladık.Maloklüzyon tanısı olan 8-17 yaş arası 88 olgunun sosyodemografik özellikleri, anne sütü alım süreleri, ağız alışkanlıkları, ağız yüz travmaları ayrıntılı bir form ile edinildi. DEHB belirtilerini taramak amacıyla katılımcıların ebeveynlerine SNAP-IV (Dikkat Eksikliği Ve Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu için belirti tarama anketi), Güçler Güçlükler Anketi (GGA) ve İşlevsellik Yeterlilik Değerlendirme Anketi; öğretmenlerine GGA, SNAP-IV ve İşlevsellik Yeterlilik Değerlendirme Anketi verildi. Çocuklara ise GGA Ergen formu ve Ağız Sağlığı Etki Profili Anketi (OHIP-14 TR) verildi. Tedavi Zorluğunu, Sonucunu ve İhtiyacını Belirleyen İndeks (Index of Complexity, Outcome and Need-ICON)'e göre maloklüzyon tanısı konan katılımcıların ortodonti muayenesi esnasında Angle maloklüzyon sınıflaması ve ağız hijyeni derecelendirilmesi yapıldı.Çalışmamızda maloklüzyon olgularında ebeveyn ve çocuk bildirimlerine kullanılan ölçeğe göre %14-17 arasında değişen artmış DEHB oranları bulduk. Bu oranlar toplumda DEHB yaygınlık değerlerinden yüksektir. Maloklüzyon ve DEHB ilişkisini inceleyen geniş kapsamlı ve yapılandırılmış klinik görüşmeleri içeren çalışmalara ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Numerous oral health problems comorbid to Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have been defined. Among these traumatic dental injuries (TDI), decayed or filled teeth and poor oral hygiene are the main problems. In this study we aimed to evaluate the ADHD symptoms in a group malocclusion patients, which has significant effects on TDI etiology. Eighty-eight patients with a diagnose of malocclusion between 8 to 17 years of age have been included to the study. The socio-demographic characteristics, breastfeeding history, oral habits and dental trauma history of the participants were acquired by a detailed questionnaire. Parents and teachers of the participants answered the SNAP-IV (Swanson Nolan Pelham Questionnaire), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and Perceived Competence Scale (PCS). The children also answered SDQ and Oral Health Impact Questionnaire (OHIP-14). During orthodontic examination of the participants Index of Complexity, Outcome and Need (ICON) was applied to confirm the diagnose of malocclusion, and Angle Classification to define malocclusion groups. The dentist also noted oral hygiene status of the participants.In our study according to parent and self-reports we have found increased rates of ADHD prevalence ranging between 14-17% in malocclusion patients. These rates are higher than the normal population estimations of ADHD prevalence. There is a need for comprehensive studies including structured clinical interviews to investigate the relationship between ADHD and malocclusions. 155

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify Isopoda (Crustacea) fauna at the coast of Bozcaada Island (NE Aegean Sea). Samples were collected at 20 stations in 2000 and 2001, from depths of 0-10 m, using dredges and scoop nets. Ten species were identified belonging to 4 families and 8 genera. Eight of these species were new records for the Isopoda fauna at the coast of Bozcaada Island.

ÖZET Bozcaada Littoralinin Makrobentos Faunası ve Ekolojileri Üzerine Bir Araştırma Bozcaada littoralinin makrobentos faunasına ait türleri ve onların kimi ekolojik özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmada, örnekler mevsimsel olarak 2000 ve 2001 yıllarında 0,5-40 m arasındaki derinliklerde bulunan 45 istasyondan spatula, el kepçesi, direç, dip trolü ve fanyalı ağ ile toplanmıştır. Yapılan sistematik çalışmalar sonucunda 1 1 filum, 21 klasis, 52 ordo, 162 familya ve 248 cinse ait toplam 337 tür saptanmıştır. Eldeki literatür bilgilerine göre Gastropoda faunasına ait 1 tür {Mitrella gervilli (Payraudeau, 1826)) tüm Türkiye denizleri için, yine aynı faunaya ait 8 tür (Calliostoma conulus (Linnaeus, 1758), Calliostoma granulatum (Von Born, 1778), Bittium scabrum (Olivi, 1792), Crepidula unguiformis Lamarck, 1822, Natica stercusmuscarum (Gmelin, 1792), Galeodea echinophora (Linnaeus, 1758), Nassarius corniculus (Olivi, 1792), Scaphander lignarius (Linnaeus, 1758)) ve Amphipoda faunasına ait 6 tür (Lembos spiniventris (Delia Valle, 1 893J, Microdeutopus smilis Myers, 1977, Apherusa mediterranea Chevreux, 1911, Lysianassa costae Milne Edwards, 1830, Caprella grandimana Mayer, 1882, Caprella rapax Mayer, 1882) Türkiye'nin Ege Denizi kıyıları için, ayrıca saptanan türlerin 293'ü de Bozcaada'nın makrobentos faunası için yeni kayıttır. Daha önce bildirilen 123 tür ile birlikte Bozcaada littoralinde saptanan tür sayısı 416'ya yükseltilmiştir. Ayrıca bu çalışmada, saptanan türlerin bulundukları istasyonların derinlik, sıcaklık, tuzluluk ve suda çözünmüş oksijen gibi ekolojik özellikleri ile ilgili bilgiler de verilmiştir. As a result of systematic studies, total of 337 species belonging to 248 genera, 162 families, 52 orders, 21 classes and 11 phyla were determined. According to the present literature, new records were determined among these species; 1 species {Mitrella gervilli (Payraudeau, 1826)) belonging to the Gastropoda fauna for all Turkish seas; 8 species (Calliostoma conulus (Linnaeus, 175 8), Calliostoma granulatum (Von Born,1778), Bittium scabrum (Olivi, 1792), Crepidula unguiformis Lamarck, 1822, Natica stercusmuscarum (Gmelin, 1792), Galeodea echinophora (Linnaeus, 1758), Nassarius corniculus (Olivi, 1792), Scaphander lignarius (Linnaeus, 1758) again belonging to the same fauna and 6 species (Lembos spiniventris (Delia Valle, 1893J, Microdeutopus smilis Myers, 1977, Apherusa mediterranea Chevreux, 1911, Lysianassa costae Milne Edwards, 1830, Caprella grandimana Mayer, 1882, Caprella rapax Mayer, 1882) belonging to the Amphipoda fauna for the Aegean Sea coasts of Turkey, also 293 species of determined species for makrobenthos fauna of Bozcaada Island. Together with 123 species were reported in earlier studies by other researchers, total number of determined macrobenthos fauna species were increased to 416 in littoral of the Bozcaada Island. Additionally this study also gives information about the ecological properties of the stations, which defined species live in, including depth, temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen. VI 93

34. Effects of verbal/performance IQ discrepancies and language-based skills on reading performance in dyslexia.

Abstract

Objective: Dyslexia is characterized by difficulties with accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Speech-language impairment in preschool years places a child at high-risk of reading disorder, particularly if the child has low general cognitive ability. Moreover, nonverbal IQ was considered as a protective factor. Using neuropsychological measures, we aimed to study the effects of Verbal/Performance (V/P) IQ discrepancies and language-based skills on reading performance in dyslexia. Our hypothesis was that language-based measures would be correlated to the reading performance of children. Method: Twenty five children (6 female) aged 7-15 years (mean age: 9.48±1.78) referred with reading difficulties to Marmara University Medical Faculty Hospital participated in the study. The neuropsychometric test battery of specific learning disability has been used to diagnose learning disorders, and K-SADS diagnostic interview has been used to screen psychopathology in subjects. The following skills of subjects have been evaluated neuropsychologically: Full Scale IQ with Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children- Revised (WISC-R), selective attention with Stroop Task, lateralization dominance with Head and Harris scales, auditory/verbal, visual immediate and working memory with Digit Span and Visual Span subtests of Wechsler scales, Semantic Fluency with Category Naming Test, Phonetic Fluency with phonemic verbal fluency task, visio-spatial perception with Line Orientation Test, spatial attention and processing speed with Letter Cancelation. Statistical analyses were performed in two ways: 1) Subjects were divided into two groups according to verbal/performance IQ discrepancies (22 points were considered as cut-off) and groups were compared with t-test. 2) Correlation analyses were conducted to evaluate the relationship between reading performance and neuropsychological measures. Results: Reading performance of subjects was not different between the groups, although reading comprehension scores were higher in high V/P IQ discrepant group. In the high V/P IQ discrepant group, VIQ was lower significantly (p=0.002); PIQ was higher significantly (p=0.003); total IQ was not different when compared to the low V/PIQ discrepant group. Similarities, vocabulary and comprehension subscale scores were higher in low V/P IQ discrepancy group (p=0.007, p=0.038, p=0.008 respectively). Object assembly subtest performance and line orientation scores were higher in high V/P IQ discrepancy subjects (p=0.009, p=0.02 respectively). Lateralization dominance scores were lower in this (high V/P discrepant) group (Head cross score: p=0.03 and Harris score: p=0.024). Correlation analyses revealed that reading performance of subjects were positively correlated with semantic and phonetic fluency, auditory working memory and processing speed (p=0.008, p=0.017, p=0.040, p=0.007 respectively). The count of inattentive symptoms were negatively correlated with the reading performance (p=0.015). Conclusion: In line with our hypothesis, for this sample, reading performance was correlated to processing speed and language-based skills, semantic and phonetic fluency, verbal working memory performance. High V/P IQ discrepant group was associated with higher visio-spatial and comprehension skills but lower lateralization dominance.
