Abstract

Este artículo presenta el marco metodológico del proyecto ABC Stereo cuyo objetivo es analizar el uso de subtítulos en tiempo real para facilitar la comunicación entre profesionales sanitarios y pacientes con problemas de audición, extranjeros y en presencia de barreras a la audición. El proyecto contribuye a enriquecer los estudios sobre el subtitulado en tiempo real y la comunicación profesional sanitario-paciente. Además, propone la experimentación de tecnologías existentes y su perfeccionamiento. El artículo introduce las dificultades en la comunicación pprofessionalsanitario-paciente; el apartado 2 resume el estado de la cuestión; el apartado 3 presenta la subtitulación en tiempo real y las principales tecnologías disponibles; el apartado 4 presenta objetivos y metodología del proyecto; el apartado 5 sugiere posibles implicaciones del studio.

Abstract

The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will face the challenge of selecting interesting candidate events in proton-proton collisions at 14 TeV center of mass energy, while rejecting the enormous number of background events. The trigger system architecture is organized in three levels. From a bunch crossing rate of 40 MHz, the First Level trigger, hardware implemented, will reduce this rate to around ∼ 75 kHz. Then the software based High Level Trigger (HLT), composed by the Second Level Trigger and the Event Filter reduces the rate to ∼ 200 Hz. In this paper, we will present the implementation of the muon trigger "slice," signal efficiencies, background rejection rates, and system performances (execution time, memory consumption, etc.) for online muon selection based on Monte Carlo simulations and results obtained on real events collected during cosmic data taking runs. 4. Estimation of the Serial Interval for Pandemic Influenza (pH1N1) in the Most Southern Province of Argentina.

Abstract

The article discusses the study of estimating serial interval (SI) for pandemic influenza (pH1N1) in the island of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The study revealed the result that out of 550 samples that are analyzed a total of 283 laboratory confirmed cases of pH1N1 are detected. It also concludes that results were consistent with estimates of SI calculated from Mexico and its lower than estimations from Canada, Germany, and U.S.

5. Impact of school closings on the influenza A (H1N1) outbreak in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.

Abstract

The impact of school closings on reducing the number of cases of influenza-like illness during an outbreak of influenza A (H1N1), which reached pandemic proportions, was assessed, along with other control measures, in the two main cities of Tierra del Fuego Province in southern Argentina. The incidence before and after the school closings in 2009 was compared by means of the t-test for related samples. By week 40, 6 901 cases of influenza-like illness had been detected, 281 of which were confirmed as influenza A (H1N1) through laboratory tests; 38 patients were hospitalized. After the intervention, there were nearly 10 times fewer cases than the average recorded in the health centers. The results indicate that closing schools during the influenza A (H1N1) outbreak resulted in a significantly lower incidence of influenza-like illness. However, the impact of other measures, such as case management and protection against exposure, should not be ignored. Timely implementation of this intervention, together with other measures, can help minimize the spread of influenza outbreaks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We report an exanthematic outbreak in a school of Banderaló town, located in the district of General Villegas, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. This outbreak affected 21 individuals, with a wide range of age (out of a total population of 1400). The observed clinical manifestations were exanthema and in some cases fever, asthenia, arthropathies and myalgia. The presence of specific IgM antibodies against measles, rubella and human parvovirus B19 were investigated. Analysis of IgM antibodies to parvovirus B19 by ELISA was positive in 90.8% of the cases and viremia was detected in 66.7% of the patients by nested PCR. These results indicate that human parvovirus B19 was the etiologic agent of the outbreak and they confirm its circulation in Argentina. Moreover, this study demonstrates that PCR may be useful for the study of transmission foci and of individuals with prolongued clinical manifestations. We consider that it is necessary to include the differential diagnosis of human parvovirus B19 in the surveillance of exanthematic virosis.
