Within critical heritage research, several studies have pointed out a shift from the tradi tional 'top-down” notion of heritage to a focus on what communities themselves consider significant to preserve. From this approach, preservation processes are analyzed as are nas of dispute among preservationist groups and others promoting urban regeneration initiatives. Using the case of the textile neighborhood of Bellavista in Tome, and through semi-structured interviews, documentary analysis and GIS spatial analysis, our main ob jective was to analyze how and which social actors become agents of heritagization in a post-industrial neighborhood. Also, we studied the linkages between their agendas and the territorial characteristics of the area. The results present a historic environment which is heterogeneously conceived, and where specific 'nodal' spaces condense meaning and agendas, concentrating the disputes between social and entrepreneurial actors., Resumen: Investigaciones desde el patrimonio crítico plantean el cambio de la noción 'canónica' de patrimonio hacia una centrada en lo que tiene valor para las propias comunidades. Bajo esta mirada, se manifiesta la disputa entre quienes promueven la conservación o la regeneración del tejido histórico. Utilizando el caso del barrio textil de Bellavista en Tomé, y mediante entrevistas semi-estructuradas, análisis documental, y su espacialización a través de cartografía SIG, el objetivo de la investigación fue analizar la manera en que diversos actores sociales devienen en agentes patrimoniales de un barrio postin dustrial, así como las vinculaciones entre sus agendas y las características del territorio. Los resultados configuran un espacio heterogéneamente concebido en el cual ciertos 'nodos' condensan significados, agendas, y concentran la disputa entre actores sociales y empresariales con desiguales cuotas de poder.

The relations between preparedness and psycho-social attributes of people and communities exposed to river floods in a nearly pristine socio-hydrological system were investigated, applying a hydrological-hydraulic analysis of flood risk in combination with results from a survey, social cartography, semi-structured non-participant observation, and semi-structured interviews. Results show that preparedness in nearly pristine systems is noticeably different to that reported for altered systems. People adopt innovative and simple but efficient measures against floods, conditioned by (1) damage suffered during past floods, (2) perceived exposure to floods, and (3) the number of dependent people in the household. The studied system proved to be well adapted to floods but not resilient. Studying attributes that explain preparedness as part of flood risk management plans would contribute towards uncertainty reduction in risk calculations and increase the safety of goods and people from floods.

Accessibility represents a key element in strengthening developed regions in terms of investment in transportation infrastructure. Accessibility is also an equity indicator to measure the ease with which a specific location achieves desired outcomes as well as the spillover effect; traditionally, these effects have been analyzed with econometric and engineering techniques, rather than from the perspective of geographical studies. The purpose of this research is to measure the spillover effects and the territorial cohesion of Infrastructure Regional Planning (PRI) for the Latin American metropolitan area of Concepción (MAC), Chile. To meet this purpose, locational and network efficiency indicators of spatial accessibility were calculated using network analysis in GIS. The results showed that the improvements differ according to the accessibility indicator employed; however, they generally showed benefits in consolidated urban centers and corridors near investment and industrial areas.
