The purpose of this study is to present a review of research on quality management in Latin-American and Spanish journals published between 2005 and 2013. The study considers managerial focused research written in Spanish or English. The classification of the research considers three elements: the research methodology, the type of application/business sector that served as the basis of the study, and the specific quality management tools/topics addressed by the study. The analysis reveals that although there is significant interest in research related to international standards and the implementation of quality management systems, subjects such as quality management systems based on six sigma methodologies have not received much attention. The study concludes with a discussion of future areas of high potential research that have not generated much discussion, El propósito de este estudio es presentar una revisión de las investigaciones sobre gestión de la calidad publicadas en revistas hispanoamericanas y españolas entre 2005 y 2013. El estudio considera artículos redactados en español o inglés con un enfoque fundamentalmente gerencial. La clasificación posterior de cada artículo se fundamentó en 3 elementos: la metodología del estudio, el tipo de aplicación/ sector de negocios en la que se enfocó el estudio, y temas específicos abordados en el artículo. El análisis demuestra un gran interés en investigaciones sobre normativas internacionales e implementaciones de sistemas de calidad, mientras que temas relacionados con sistemas de calidad basados en metodologías Seis Sigma han recibido poca atención. El estudio concluye con una examinación sobre futuras áreas de investigación de alto potencial que no han generado suficiente discusión., O propósito deste estudo é apresentar uma revisão das investigações sobre gestão da qualidade, publicadas em revista hispano-americanas e espanholas entre 2005 e 2013. This study evaluated the patient processing system at the Urgent Care Clinic at Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, SC to assess its timeliness and efficiency. Analysis of patient cycle times at two separate time intervals made it possible to identify the different time periods and assess the patient's access to care. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the effects of changes in this process. Although overall wait and access to care improved (p < .05), no significant improvement in overall satisfaction was found between the two time intervals. Written patient comments indicated a greater concern for personal treatment experienced rather than access time to receive care. This study underscores the difficulties in identifying and meeting patient satisfaction and demand., The original document contains color images.
