- Abstract
Recent research has suggested that teachers' burnout is growing and, consequently, affecting their overall satisfaction with life and professional involvement. The goal of this study was to assess burnout in Portuguese teachers and to explore whether burnout levels are associated with teachers' personal and professional characteristics. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) were used to collect data from a sample of 262 teachers, who were mostly female (66.0%), were aged between 26 and 63 years (mean = 44, SD = 7.95), and had an average of 18 years of experience in teaching regular classes (SD = 9.22) and an average of 2 years of experience in special education (SD = 4.97). The results suggested the adequate psychometric properties of the OLBI in Portuguese teachers. Moreover, the older the teachers were, the higher the levels of burnout they reported. Burnout was positively associated with the number of years of experience but only in regular education teachers. Although no differences in burnout as a function of experience in inclusive classrooms were found, a positive correlation of teachers' burnout with the number of students with special needs in the classroom was identified. The results are discussed according to the literature, and suggestions for future studies are presented.

- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that influence the attitudes of students towards peers identified as having special educational needs (SEN) in Portuguese mainstream schools. Data were collected from a sample of 1093 students from 5th to 9th grade across Madeira Autonomous Region. Data collection instruments included the "Chedoke-McMaster Attitudes Towards Children with Special Needs Scale" and a brief questionnaire covering sociodemographic and proximity information and knowledge about special needs. The results of multivariate analysis indicate more favourable attitudes in girls, younger participants and those with lower educational levels. Additionally, proximity, contact and knowledge related to special educational needs appear to be determinants of positive attitudes. The discussion of inclusion in schools and gender appear to be the factors most associated with students' attitudes towards peers with special educational needs in mainstream education. Implications and further studies are presented.

Burnout has been recognised as an occupational risk but also an indicator of organisational conditions and adjustment. This paper explores the role of personal, psychological, and professional experience factors in pastoral burnout compared to burnout in other caring professions. Using a set of questionnaires, data were collected from 64 pastoral ministry members, 192 elder care assistants and 258 teachers. Pastoral ministry members showed lower exhaustion and higher satisfaction with future security. Additionally, burnout symptoms were related to depression and stress. When compared with other groups, pastoral ministry members revealed lower levels of burnout. The results are discussed, and suggestions for further studies are presented.

- Abstract
Thirty years after the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child, it is important to assess and reflect on the legislation and actions that were conducted to promote children’s rights and wellbeing. International indicators suggest important achievements in the dissemination of education and basic rights, especially in occidental and developed countries, but evidence regarding the effectiveness of intervention programs aimed at promoting children’s wellbeing is still sparse and scattered. Based on a review of the literature available at Scopus database, thirteen papers on intervention programs to promote wellbeing in children and adolescents were identified, including data from more than fourteen thousand students (N = 14,692). We revise the main components of the interventions, the target populations, the frequency and duration of the intervention, the instruments used to assess the effects, the study design, and its main effects. The chapter offers an overview of the state of the art on intervention in wellbeing but highlights the necessity of clear guidelines for researchers and practitioners. Limitations and guidelines for good practices for educational and community interventions are presented., This work was financially supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science (FCT) and Technology and the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education through national funds within the framework of the Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UID/FIL/00683/2021) and the Psychology Research Center of the University of Minho (UIDB/PSI/01662/2020).

O presente estudo é parte integrante de um projeto de maior dimensão alocado ao CINTESIS / ESEP, coordenado pelo Professor Wilson Abreu subordinado ao tema: “Mental Health and COVID-19 pandemic: reactions and post-traumatic stress in people related to social isolation and infection after recovery”. The presence of psychological distress symptoms due to the social isolation caused by COVID-19 is a reality evident in some of the people who experience it. This study is part of a larger project allocated to CINTESIS/ESEP, coordinated by Professor Wilson Abreu, under the theme “Mental Health and COVID-19 pandemic: reactions and post-traumatic stress in people related to social isolation and infection after recovery”. We followed a non-experimental, descriptive, transversal, and correlational quantitative approach. We used the snowball effect, a non-probabilistic sampling technique, in a sample of 581 volunteer participants total who experienced social isolation. The sample was mostly female (82.6%) with an average age of 34.5 years. The data was collected between January and March of 2021 through a questionnaire that included the following scales: Brief Symptom Inventory, Derogatis (1993) (Portuguese version) Core Beliefs Inventory, Cann et. al (2010) (Portuguese version). As for part of the results of this study, we are able to see that there is evidence of psychological distress symptoms in people who experience social isolation due to COVID-19, identifying disorder in all the BSI and Global Symptom Index subscales. We identified that the Core Beliefs Inventory is positively and significantly correlated with all dimensions of psychological distress in study, which suggests that the greater the changes in previously existing beliefs, the more impact they will have on the intensity of psychological distress. Regarding the existing levels of distress, the study conducted through ANOVA (F) allowed us to understand that there is a difference between the types of social isolation experienced, since those who experience isolation due to infection show lower levels of psychopathological symptoms when compared to those who experienced isolation for prophylactic reasons, reaching p ≤ 0.05 results in most subscales. Although significantly related to the type of isolation (prophylactic or infection), we also found out that both classifications of the support types (social and health services) do not show between them differences to be considered relevant.

The pandemic and the attendant change in behavior, together with the general unpredictability, has generated great anxiety in the population. In this context, the aim of this study was to analyze whether the levels of depression, anxiety and stress in university students have changed during the period of the pandemic (2020) compared with the previous normality. This study comprised two groups, in which sample-1 is composed of 460 subjects with a mean age of 20.14 and sample-2, 159 subjects with a mean age of 20.40. All the participants completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and were assessed by way of the Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scales. The students evaluated during the period of the pandemic presented significantly higher levels of anxiety, depression and stress, compared with students in erstwhile, normal times. Our results suggest that the pandemic has a negative psychological effect on students. It is important to continue exploring the implications of the pandemic on students’ mental health, so that its effects can be prevented, or at least mitigated.

In Portugal, special education services were recently extended to preschool education. The studies that evaluate the perceptions of the preschool teachers about inclusive practices are also few. In this study we aim to evaluate the perceptions of preschool teachers about inclusion. A sample of 118 Portuguese preschool teachers was used. The Inclusion Inventory was administrated. The results indicate that the implementation of inclusive practices is related to perceived support and previous use of inclusive practices. Younger teachers, with less teaching experience and less time implementing inclusive practices have more beliefs about inclusion. Older professionals and teachers who spend more time working with children with special needs perceive better effects of inclusion in children. These results are discussed considering the existing literature, and implications for educational practice and research are presented., Em Portugal, a extensão dos serviços de educação especial à educação pré-escolar é relativamente recente. The purpose of this is dissertation is to study twenty-four sermons preached during the Lent in the Early Modern Age, detailing the social, economic, political and religious context in which they were preached and edited. We are also showing the ways by which the the faithful could be influenced, by means of the preaching, to a more adequate experience in line with the values of the Scriptures. This work, whilst pathing several bibliographic references, intends to contextualize the readers on the subject: The strength of the Word: the homiletics in the XVII and XVIII centuries during Lent among the religious culture of each historical epoch. Investigating several documents of Early Modern Age, we have given, however, a greater focus to preaching in the Baroque period. We have demonstrated that preaching in the modern period, whilst resenting from a wide dissemination of documents emanating from the Holy See and also from the diocesan curiae, in a movement of counter-reform, consisted fundamentally in the obligation of preaching as a means for the indoctrination of the masses via reason and sensitiveness. It was meant to inspire rather antagonistic feelings such as intellectual delight, terror and piety. Thus, preaching showed skills of sacred eloquence, by which the preacher stimulated and nurtured postures and behaviors and disseminated religious and moral values, often resorting to power of the pulpit to explain political issues and offer comments on worldviews.

São apresentadas as limitações do estudo e sugeridas novas linhas de investigação., This study aims to explore the self-regulation learning process of students and their effects on school outcomes among students with and without special educational needs (SEN). Specifically, we examined whether the ability to identify the purpose of the task, the use of cognitive, sociocommunicative attention and request strategies, motivational and self-assessment is different between the two groups. The sample consisted of a group of 25 students of the 4th grade where five students with SEN are included, and the data was collected through the analysis of grid of selfregulatory strategies in the child learning situation from Nader-Grosbois (2007). Results allowed us to find gender differences, with girls more motivated to learning and with overall better results in the tasks. We realized also that academic outcomes are related to self-regulation abilities and motivation for learning. Comparing students with and without special needs, it was concluded that the first group have a more self-regulated profile and better overall performance in the tasks. Pupils with SEN were the ones with the worst performance in the task and self-regulation, revealing changes in cognitive functions involved in self-regulatory processes. Some limitations of the study and suggested new lines of research are presented.

- Abstract
In this study we present the results of the adaptation of the Adolescent Self-Regulatory Inventory (ASRI) to Portugal. The measure was used with two samples of high school students to which ASRI was administered with Self-Regulation Scale as control measure. In the first study the measures were administered to 823 adolescents and the construct validity analysis was assessed with exploratory factor analysis. The results allow us to find an adequate structure with proper psychometric properties, in their construct and content validity, and reliability. A second study involved 435 adolescents, being tested three models using confirmatory factor analyses. The final version of the ASRI-2 presents an acceptable fit of the data in construct and concurrent validity, given its moderate or high correlation with academic success and substance use. The implications of this new approach to the self-regulation study are discussed and directions to further studies are suggested.

The aim of this paper was to explore the relationship between the students' perceptions of teachers' behavior and self-regulated learning in Mathematics. The study, conducted among a group of 625 students of Portuguese Compulsory Education (7th to 9th grades) using the QIPBásic and the IPAAr allowed us to understand differences in the aforementioned variables related with students' gender, age, grades and number of retentions, parents education, professor of Mathematics gender and number of years with the same teacher. The most relevant findings to teaching practice are relate to the positive relation between self-regulated learning and students' perception of their teachers with regard to leadership, helping/friendly, and understanding, as well as the negative relation between self-regulated learning and students' perception of uncertain, dissatisfied and admonishing of their teachers., Este artigo teve como objetivo explorar a relação entre a percepção do comportamento do professor e auto-regulação da aprendizagem na Matemática.

This research explores the role of self-regulation in substance-use behaviours from a developmental perspective. We explore the influence of the peer group and parental competencies on self-regulation, in relation to substance use in young people, by means of two convenience samples, the first comprising 478 participants aged 10 to 20, the majority of whom were female, and the second made up of 311 youngsters aged 10 to 17, the majority being male. The instruments used were a Sociodemographic Questionnaire (ad hoc), a Smoking and Alcohol Use Questionnaire (ad hoc), the Adolescent Self-Regulatory Inventory - brief version (ASRI-2r), the Parental Competencies Scale and the Peer Relations Questionnaire. The results confirm a relationship between gender and long-term self-regulation, whose level is higher among girls and young women. Those youngsters with friends who smoke or regularly drink alcohol score lower on the short-term self-regulation subscales.

This work aimed to study the influence of physical treatments in the episperm and different substrates on the germination of seeds of yellow passion fruit plant. The design was completely randomized with four replications of 50 seeds, in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme with four physical treatments in the seed episperm (intact, scarified, crunched and removed) and three substrates (sand, coconut powder and soil + sand + dang). The appraised characteristics were: germination (%), index of emergency speed, hard seeds and deteriorated (%), normal and abnormal seedlings (%), height of seedlings (mm) and dry matter mass of aerial parts and root (mg). The results indicated that the total removal of the episperm of the seeds was harmful in all the appraised characteristics, mainly when cultivated in the substrates sand and soil + sand + dung.
