Abstract

Background and objectivesWith the increasing use of visually evoked potentials (VEPs) as quantitative outcome parameters for myelin in clinical trials, an in-depth understanding of longitudinal VEP latency changes and their prognostic potential for subsequent neuronal loss will be required. In this longitudinal multicenter study, we evaluated the association and prognostic potential of VEP latency for retinal neurodegeneration, measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT), in relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS).MethodsWe included 293 eyes of 147 patients with RRMS (age [years, median ± SD] 36 ± 10, male sex 35%, F/U [years, median {IQR} 2.1 {1.5-3.9}]): 41 eyes had a history of optic neuritis (ON) ≥6 months before baseline (CHRONIC-ON), and 252 eyes had no history of ON (CHRONIC-NON). P100 latency (VEP), macular combined ganglion cell and inner plexiform layer volume (GCIPL), and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (pRNFL) (OCT) were quantified.ResultsP100 latency change over the first year predicted subsequent GCIPL loss (36 months) across the entire chronic cohort (p = 0.001) and in (and driven by) the CHRONIC-NON subset (p = 0.019) but not in the CHRONIC-ON subset (p = 0.680). P100 latency and pRNFL were correlated at baseline (CHRONIC-NON p = 0.004, CHRONIC-ON p < 0.001), but change in P100 latency and pRNFL were not correlated. P100 latency did not differ longitudinally between protocols or centers.DiscussionVEP in non-ON eyes seems to be a promising marker of demyelination in RRMS and of potential prognostic value for subsequent retinal ganglion cell loss. This study also provides evidence that VEP may be a useful and reliable biomarker for multicenter studies.

Abstract

This paper summarizes the adoption of new technologies in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Greece. RFID technology has been adopted. RFID tags have been attached to the artifacts. This allows for several interactions, including tracking and automated registering of movements of exhibits, personnel and visitors inside the museum, location-dependent guided tours and more. Furthermore, a prototype RFID-enabled social robot has been designed and constructed. The robot includes several possibilities of interaction with the environment and the visitors, allowing for the development of different applications. In this context, the robot plays treasure-games with younger visitors, benefiting from oral, touch and RF interactions. It also joins conversations with the visitors around the exhibits, exploiting artificial intelligence, giving information on the exhibits., {"references":["CultureId – Project. Abstract

In a progressive propagation prediction model, significant time is saved by interrupting the process when specific application related constraints have been met. Such limitations have to do with the statistics of intermediate results as well as their spatial arrangement in the area of interest. We propose a time-efficient method to control the topological distribution of intermediate predictions. The proposed criterion allows different priorities to be set in different regions of the study area. In addition, we put forward two progressive strategies capable of adjusting the ray-tracing engine to the desired prioritization. The advantages of the proposed strategies compared with existing approaches are well demonstrated. Index Terms--Progressive propagation modeling, radiocoverage, ray-tracing.

Abstract

Radiocoverage measurements in urban environments often unveil unexpected power distribution patterns. Architectural features seem to be the cause of this behavior, as demonstrated in this paper. We demonstrate that the elements of a typical =building facade, such as windows, exterior doors, balconies and railings, should be considered as significant 'sources' of EM radiation in several current wireless communication systems. We propose a method for modeling the influence of those scatterers in EM wave propagation. In our model, the major structural elements are represented by two sets of orthogonally arranged wedges. The uniform geometrical theory of diffraction is employed to calculate the scattering field. The simulation results show that such 'urban' scatterers may create a dominant propagation mode in an urban canyon. Our predictions are additionally verified by experimental measurements, performed at two different sites. Finally, the influence of roadside foliage is investigated and conclusions are drawn on the resultant field.
