Using mouthguards is essential, particularly in sports like skating, where high‐impact forces are common.The study aimed to evaluate how stress is distributed on the teeth and surrounding bone in children with proclined anterior teeth when a force of 614.12 N was applied to two different regions of the jaws. The evaluation was conducted using finite element analysis (FEA), both with and without the use of a mouthguard.A 3‐dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) model was constructed using a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan of a 12‐year‐old male patient. An average standardized force of 614.12 N was calculated, based on the average weight of children aged 11 to 13 years and the average speed of 13.4 m/s with which the children skate. The force was applied in two different directions and areas of the jaws: a lateral blow, perpendicular to the crown and root with the maxillary and mandibular teeth in occlusion (between the first molar and second premolar), and a blow obliquely at the pogonion point on the chin. Static simulations were then performed for four realistic scenarios—two with mouthguards and two without mouthguards.The Von Mises stresses were evaluated under all conditions. When the applied force was directed laterally, the stress values observed were 126.76 MPa with a mouthguard and 140 MPa without a mouthguard. When the force was applied to the chin region, the stress values were 37.997 MPa with a mouthguard and 40.67 MPa without a mouthguard.The use of a mouthguard in children is beneficial for protecting teeth and surrounding structures, especially in cases of proclined anterior teeth, as it helps dampen the generated stresses. Introduction: The use of interrupted nitrous oxide-oxygen (N2O-O2) sedation technique will minimize chronic exposure to ambient nitrous oxide and its health hazard to the dental team and patient. The aim is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of interrupted and continuous administration of N2O-O2 sedation in managing anxious children 4 to 8 years undergoing primary molar rehabilitation. The objective is to assess and compare the physical, physiological, and psychological changes in the behavior of anxious children during interrupted and continuous N2O-O2 sedation techniques. Methodology Including Study Design: It is a double-blinded randomized controlled trial. Forty-two healthy children, 4-8 years of age, with a need for mandibular molars rehabilitation, were included in the study. The 42 children were randomly divided into groups: (1) interrupted N2O-O2 sedation technique and (2) continuous nitrous oxide-oxygen N2O-O2 sedation technique. Slow induction of oxygen and nitrous oxide was administered. After the injection phase in protocol 1, nitrous oxide levels were gradually reduced to 0% and only 100% oxygen was delivered till the end of treatment, and in protocol 2, till the end of treatment, 50% nitrous oxide and 50% oxygen were maintained and at the end, 100% oxygen was administered for 5 min. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in physical, physiological, or psychological change in the behavior of anxious children between the two protocols. Conclusions: The interrupted N2O-O2 sedation technique can be effectively used to manage anxious children 4-8 years of age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background/aim: The delayed re-implantation of avulsed teeth results in ankylosis, followed by replacement resorption and eventual loss of the tooth within 2-4 years. To prevent tooth loss, the root surface can be etched with acid to expose the collagen fibers present in the cementum layer. This process facilitates normal reattachment and regeneration of the periodontal ligament. This in-vitro study aimed to assess the viability and number of attached cultured Human Periodontal Ligament Cells (HPLC) on the dehydrated root surface of simulated avulsed teeth treated with citric acid and EDTA solutions., Materials and Methods: Sound human permanent teeth were included in the study. The root portions of the teeth were sectioned into slices, air-dried for 1 h, and divided into the following three groups: Group A-control; Group B-Citric acid treated for 30 min; Group C-EDTA treated for 5 min. The slices were then placed in cultured HPLC. After a 24-h incubation period, the slices were visualized under the microscope and prepared for reading the viable and dead HPLC using a spectrofluorometer, as well as for counting HPLC in a Neubauer Chamber., Results: The spectrofluorometer intensity for viable and dead HPLC showed a statistically significant difference (p = .003 and p = .002), with the mean intensity for viable HPLC greater in citric acid group (69.52 ± 74.51), followed by EDTA group (31.39 ± 9.12), and control group (-130.93 ± 30.99). The dead HPLC intensity was greater in the EDTA group (19.43 ± 47.31), followed by the citric acid group (1.28 ± 1.85), and the control group (-2.77 ± 0.76). The total number of cells in the Neubauer chamber showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001), with a higher count in the citric acid group (10.83 ± 4.08) followed by EDTA group (2.92 ± 2.92)., Conclusion: The application of citric acid for 30 min on the dehydrated root surface of avulsed teeth demonstrated superior outcomes compared to both EDTA treatment for 5 min and the control group., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons A/S.
