Few-mode multi-core fiber (FM-MCF) based Space-Division Multiplexing (SDM) systems possess the potential to maximize the number of multiplexed spatial channels per fiber by harnessing both the space (fiber cores) and mode (optical mode per core) dimensions. However, to date, no SDM transmissions over field-deployed FM-MCFs in realistic outdoor settings have been reported, which contrasts with SDM schemes demonstrated using single-mode multi-core fibers (SM-MCFs) installed in practical fiber cable ducts. In this paper, we present the successful demonstration of bidirectional SDM transmission over a 5-km field-deployed seven ring-core fiber (7-RCF) with a cladding diameter of 178 ${\mu}$m, achieving a Spectral Efficiency (SE) of 2$\times$201.6 bit/s/Hz. This work establishes a new record for the highest SE attained in SDM demonstrations utilizing field-deployed fiber cables, achieving an approximate 10x increase compared to the SE of reported field-deployed optical fiber cable transmission systems. Notably, these results are realized through the utilization of small-scale modular 4$\times$4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processing with a time-domain equalization (TDE) tap number not exceeding 15, maintaining a complexity per unit capacity comparable to that of MIMO equalization in SDM demonstrations employing weakly coupled SM-MCF cables. Sequences with low aperiodic autocorrelation sidelobes have been extensively researched in literatures. With sufficiently low integrated sidelobe level (ISL), their power spectrums are asymptotically flat over the whole frequency domain. However, for the beam sweeping in the massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) broadcast channels, the flat spectrum should be constrained in a passband with tunable bandwidth to achieve the flexible tradeoffs between the beamforming gain and the beam sweeping time. Motivated by this application, we construct a family of sequences termed the generalized step-chirp (GSC) sequence with a closed-form expression, where some parameters can be tuned to adjust the bandwidth flexibly. In addition to the application in beam sweeping, some GSC sequences are closely connected with Mow's unified construction of sequences with perfect periodic autocorrelations, and may have a coarser phase resolution than the Mow sequence while their ISLs are comparable., Comment: Accepted by 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory

In this work, we construct $4$-phase Golay complementary sequence (GCS) set of cardinality $2^{3+\lceil \log_2 r \rceil}$ with arbitrary sequence length $n$, where the $10^{13}$-base expansion of $n$ has $r$ nonzero digits. Specifically, the GCS octets (eight sequences) cover all the lengths no greater than $10^{13}$. Besides, based on the representation theory of signed symmetric group, we construct Hadamard matrices from some special GCS to improve their asymptotic existence: there exist Hadamard matrices of order $2^t m$ for any odd number $m$, where $t = 6\lfloor \frac{1}{40}\log_{2}m\rfloor + 10$.

Machine learning methods have been widely used in the investigations of the complex plasmas. In this paper, we demonstrate that the unsupervised convolutional neural network can be applied to obtain the melting line in the two-dimensional complex plasmas based on the Langevin dynamics simulation results. The training samples do not need to be labeled. The resulting melting line coincides with those obtained by the analysis of hexatic order parameter and supervised machine learning method.

Machine learning is applied to investigate the phase transition of two-dimensional complex plasmas. The Langevin dynamics simulation is employed to prepare particle suspensions in various thermodynamic states. Based on the resulted particle positions in two extreme conditions, bitmap images are synthesized and imported to a convolutional neural network (ConvNet) as training sample. As a result, a phase diagram is obtained. This trained ConvNet model can be directly applied to the sequence of the recorded images using video microscopy in the experiments to study the melting.

Golay complementary matrices (GCM) have recently drawn considerable attentions owing to its potential applications in omnidirectional precoding. In this paper we generalize the GCM to multi-dimensional Golay complementary arrays (GCA) and propose new constructions of GCA pairs and GCA quads. These constructions are facilitated by introducing a set of identities over a commutative ring. We prove that a quaternary GCA pair is feasible if the product of the array sizes in all dimensions is a quaternary Golay number with an additional constraint on the factorization of the product. For the binary GCM quads, we conjecture that the feasible sizes are arbitrary, and verify for sizes within 78 $\times$ 78 and other less densely distributed sizes. For the quaternary GCM quads, all the positive integers within 1000 can be covered for the size in one dimension., Comment: 28 pages

The electronic, optical and magnetic properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) can be engineered by controlling their edge structure and width with atomic precision through bottom-up fabrication based on molecular precursors. This approach offers a unique platform for all-carbon electronic devices but requires careful optimization of the growth conditions to match structural requirements for successful device integration, with GNR length being the most critical parameter. In this work, we study the growth, characterization, and device integration of 5-atom wide armchair GNRs (5-AGNRs), which are expected to have an optimal band gap as active material in switching devices. 5-AGNRs are obtained via on-surface synthesis under ultra-high vacuum conditions from Br- and I-substituted precursors. We show that the use of I-substituted precursors and the optimization of the initial precursor coverage quintupled the average 5-AGNR length. This significant length increase allowed us to integrate 5-AGNRs into devices and to realize the first field-effect transistor based on narrow bandgap AGNRs that shows switching behavior at room temperature. Our study highlights that optimized growth protocols can successfully bridge between the sub-nanometer scale, where atomic precision is needed to control the electronic properties, and the scale of tens of nanometers relevant for successful device integration of GNRs.

In this Letter, a ring-core erbium-doped fiber (RC-EDF), with two-layer erbium-doped structure, supporting up to the fourth-order orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode is designed and fabricated for OAM mode multiplexed amplification. Using the RC-EDF, the third- and fourth-order OAM modes amplification with ultra-low differential mode gain (DMG) is demonstrated by observing both the modal intensity and phase distribution and measuring the modal gain under the fundamental mode core-pumping. The measured average gain of four modes (l=+3, -3, +4, -4) multiplexed amplification is higher than 19dB cover the C-band and the DMG is less than 1dB. Consider a compact symplectic sub-orbifold groupoid $\sf S$ of a compact symplectic orbifold groupoid $(\mathsf X,\omega)$. Let $\mathsf X_{\mathfrak a}$ be the weight-$\mathfrak a$ blowup of $\sf X$ along $\sf S$, and $\mathsf D_{\mathfrak a}=\mathsf{PN}_{\mathfrak a}$ be the exceptional divisor, where $\sf N$ is the normal bundle of $\sf S$ in $\sf X$. In this paper we show that the absolute orbifold Gromov--Witten theory of $\mathsf X_{\mathfrak a}$ can be effectively and uniquely reconstructed from the absolute orbifold Gromov--Witten theories of $\sf X$, $\sf S$ and $\mathsf D_{\mathfrak a}$, the natural restriction homomorphism $H^*_{\text{CR}}({\sf X})\rightarrow H^*_{\text{CR}}({\sf S})$ and the first Chern class of the tautological line bundle over $\mathsf D_{\mathfrak a}$. To achieve this we first prove similar results for the relative orbifold Gromov--Witten theories of $(\mathsf X_{\mathfrak a}|\mathsf D_{\mathfrak a})$ and $(\mathsf N_{\mathfrak a}|\mathsf D_{\mathfrak a})$. As applications of these results, we prove an orbifold version of a conjecture of Maulik--Pandharipande on the Gromov--Witten theory of blowups along complete intersections, a conjecture on the Gromov--Witten theory of root constructions and a conjecture on Leray--Hirsch result for orbifold Gromov--Witten theory of Tseng--You., Comment: 44pages; some typos fixed; comments are welcome; accepted for publication in SCIENCE CHINA Mathematics
