Our goal is to compute excited states for the nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation in the radial setting. We introduce a new technique based on the Nehari manifold approach and give a comparison with the classical shooting method. We observe that the Nehari method allows to accurately compute excited states on large domains but is relatively slow compared to the shooting method.

We consider the rough differential equation with drift driven by a Gaussian geometric rough path. Under natural conditions on the rough path, namely non-determinism, and uniform ellipticity conditions on the diffusion coefficient, we prove path-by-path well-posedness of the equation for poorly regular drifts. In the case of the fractional Brownian motion $B^H$ for $H>\frac14$, we prove that the drift may be taken to be $\kappa>0$ H\"older continuous and bounded for $\kappa>\frac32 - \frac1{2H}$. Nonlinear quantum graphs are metric graphs equipped with a nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation. Whereas in the last ten years they have known considerable developments on the theoretical side, their study from the numerical point of view remains in its early stages. The goal of this paper is to present the Grafidi library, a Python library which has been developed with the numerical simulation of nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equations on graphs in mind. We will show how, with the help of the Grafidi library, one can implement the popular normalized gradient flow and nonlinear conjugate gradient flow methods to compute ground states of a nonlinear quantum graph. We will also simulate the dynamics of the nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation with a Crank-Nicolson relaxation scheme and a Strang splitting scheme. Finally, in a series of numerical experiments on various types of graphs, we will compare the outcome of our numerical calculations for ground states with the existing theoretical results, thereby illustrating the versatility and efficiency of our implementations in the framework of the Grafidi library.

The problem considered here is motivated by a work by B. Nachtergaele and H.T. Yau where the Euler equations of fluid dynamics are derived from manybody quantum mechanics, see [10]. A crucial concept in their work is that of local quantum Gibbs states, which are quantum statistical equilibria with prescribed particle, current, and energy densities at each point of space (here R d , d $\ge$ 1). They assume that such local Gibbs states exist, and show that if the quantum system is initially in a local Gibbs state, then the system stays, in an appropriate asymptotic limit, in a Gibbs state with particle, current, and energy densities now solutions to the Euler equations. Our main contribution in this work is to prove that such local quantum Gibbs states can be constructed from prescribed densities under mild hypotheses, in both the fermionic and bosonic cases. The problem consists in minimizing the von Neumann entropy in the quantum grand canonical picture under constraints of local particle, current, and energy densities. The main mathematical difficulty is the lack of compactness of the minimizing sequences to pass to the limit in the constraints. The issue is solved by defining auxiliary constrained optimization problems, and by using some monotonicity properties of equilibrium entropies.

We introduce and implement a method to compute stationary states of nonlinear Schr\''odinger equations on metric graphs. Stationary states are obtained as local minimizers of the nonlinear Schr\''odinger energy at fixed mass. Our method is based on a normalized gradient flow for the energy (i.e. a gradient flow projected on a fixed mass sphere) adapted to the context of nonlinear quantum graphs. We first prove that, at the continuous level, the normalized gradient flow is well-posed, mass-preserving, energy diminishing and converges (at least locally) towards stationary states. We then establish the link between the continuous flow and its discretized version. We conclude by conducting a series of numerical experiments in model situations showing the good performance of the discrete flow to compute stationary states. Further experiments as well as detailed explanation of our numerical algorithm are given in a companion paper.

We address in this work the problem of minimizing quantum entropies under local constraints. We suppose macroscopic quantities such as the particle density, current, and kinetic energy are fixed at each point of $\Rm^d$, and look for a density operator over $L^2(\Rm^d)$ minimizing an entropy functional. Such minimizers are referred to as a local Gibbs states. This setting is in constrast with the classical problem of prescribing global constraints, where the total number of particles, total current, and total energy in the system are fixed. The question arises for instance in the derivation of fluid models from quantum dynamics. We prove, under fairly general conditions, that the entropy admits a unique constrained minimizer. Due to a lack of compactness, the main difficulty in the proof is to show that limits of minimizing sequences satisfy the local energy constraint. We tackle this issue by introducing a simpler auxiliary minimization problem and by using a monotonicity argument involving the entropy.

The propagation of matter waves in curved geometry is relevant for electrons in nano-wires, solid-state physics structures and atomtronics. Curvature effects are usually addressed within the adiabatic limit and treated via an effective potential acting on the manifold to which the particles are strongly confined. However, the strength of the confinements that can be achieved experimentally are in practice limited, and the adiabatic approximation framework often appears too restrictive for the realistic design of relevant propagation structures. Here, we explore the design of 2D sharply bent wave-guides for the propagation of matter waves beyond the adiabatic regime. The bend design, which enables the connection of guide components rotated by an arbitrary angle and of arbitrary curvatures, rests on an exact inverse-engineering technique. The resolution of the full 2D Schr\"odinger equation in curved geometry shows that our method yields reflectionless guides with a transverse stability improved by several orders of magnitude when compared to circular guides of similar size.

We consider in this work the problem of minimizing the von Neumann entropy under the constraints that the density of particles, the current, and the kinetic energy of the system is fixed at each point of space. The unique minimizer is a self-adjoint positive trace class operator, and our objective is to characterize its form. We will show that this minimizer is solution to a self-consistent nonlinear eigenvalue problem. One of the main difficulties in the proof is to parametrize the feasible set in order to derive the Euler-Lagrange equation, and we will proceed by constructing an appropriate form of perturbations of the minimizer. In this paper we provide an It{\^o}-Tanaka-Wentzell trick in a non semimartingale context. We apply this result to the study of a fractional SDE with irregular drift coefficient.

We study theoretically and numerically the ground state of a gas of 2D abelian anyons in an external trapping potential. We treat anyon statistics in the magnetic gauge picture, perturbatively around the bosonic end. This leads to a mean-field energy functional, whose ground state displays vortex lattices similar to those found in rotating Bose-Einstein condensates. A crucial difference is however that the vortex density is proportional to the underlying matter density of the gas.

We address the Cauchy problem for a nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation where the dispersion is modulated by a deterministic noise. The noise is understood as the derivative of a self-affine function of order H $\in$ (0, 1). Due to the self-similarity of the noise, we obtain modified Strichartz estimates which enables us to prove the global well-posedness of the equation for L2-supercritical nonlinearities. This is an occurence of regularization by noise in a purely deterministic context.

In this paper, we investigate a stochastic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. Due to the stochastic nature of the inequality, the relation between the exponents of intgrability is modified. This modification can be understood as a regularization by noise phenomenon. As a direct application, we derive Strichartz estimates for the white noise dispersion which enables us to address a conjecture from [3].

This work is concerned with the minimization of quantum entropies under local constraints of density, current, and energy. The problem arises in the work of Degond and Ringhofer about the derivation of quantum hydrodynamical models from first principles, and is an adaptation to the quantum setting of the moment closure strategy by entropy minimization encountered in kinetic equations. The main mathematical difficulty is the lack of compactness needed to recover the energy constraint. We circumvent this issue by a monotonicity argument involving energy, temperature and entropy, that is inspired by some thermodynamical considerations.

We numerically study a rotating Bose-Einstein condensate placed transiently over the critical rotation frequency i.e. in a regime where the rotation frequency is larger than the radial frequency of the confinement. We study the reversibility of this process depending on the strength of the interactions and the presence of vortices. We find that the reversibility is broken by the interactions in the absence of vortices but systematically quasi-restored in the presence of a single vortex.

In this paper we address an open question formulated in [17]. That is, we extend the It{\^o}-Tanaka trick, which links the time-average of a deterministic function f depending on a stochastic process X and F the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation associated to X, to random mappings f. To this end we provide new results on a class of adpated and non-adapted Fokker-Planck SPDEs and BSPDEs.

In this work we perform a numerical study of a rotating, harmonically trapped, Bose-Einstein condensate of microcavity polaritons. An efficient numerical method (toolbox) to solve the complex Gross-Pitaevskii equation is developed. Using this method, we investigate how the behavior of the number of vortices formed inside the condensate changes as the various system parameters are varied. In contrast to the atomic condensates, we show, there exists an (experimentally realizable) range of parameter values in which all the vortices can be made to vanish even when there is a high rotation. We further explore how this region can be tuned through other free parameters and also discuss how this study can help to realize the synthetic magnetic field for polaritons and hence paving the way for the realization of the quantum Hall physics and many other exotic phenomena., Comment: Typos/ notations corrected, results unchanged, arguments revised
