7. Parental attachment and childhood trauma in adolescents engaged in non‐suicidal self‐injury.

Abstract

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to compare parental attachment and childhood traumas in adolescents with NSSI with healthy peers. Methods: Fifty adolescents aged 14–18 years with lifetime NSSI and 56 healthy peers were included in the study. Inventory of Statements About Self‐injury (ISAS), The Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and Child Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ‐28) scales were used. Results: Eighty‐two percentage of the NSSI group and 70% of the control group were girls. The mean age was 15.6 ± 1.1 years in the NSSI group and 15.3 ± 0.9 years in the control group. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age and gender. The NSSI group had more negative scores than the control group in terms of childhood traumas and attachment characteristics to both mother and father. The analyses showed that mother PBI care/control and sexual abuse score had a relationship with both ISAS Autonomic Functions and ISAS Social Functions scores. Conclusions: These results suggest that secure attachment with the mother may be protective for both the autonomic and social functions of the NSSI. Therefore, interventions for dysfunctional parental attachment may prevent the development of NSSI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

9. Parental Containing Function and Overprotection in Specific Learning Disorder.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between maternal containment and overprotectiveness in children with specific learning disorder and also planned to evaluate the level of autonomy in self-care skills, which may be disrupted by overprotection. Methods: In total, 56 children with specific learning disorder diagnosis were compared with 56 healthy controls. Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children Present and Lifetime Version-DSM-5, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised, Mathematics, Reading, Writing Assessment Scale, Parental Child Containing Function Scale, and overprotection subscale of Parent Attitude Scale were used as assessment tools. Results: Parental Child Containing Function Scale and Parent Attitude Scale -overprotection scores were significantly higher in children with specific learning disorder (P < .001 for both). Furthermore, Parent Attitude Scale-overprotection have a predictive role in specific learning disorder diagnosis (odds ratio = −0.879, 95% CI = −0.788 to −0.980, P = .020). Also, some Parental Child Containing Function Scale (PCCFS) subscales were found as predictors of Mathematics, Reading, and Writing Assessment Scale scores. Lastly, children with specific learning disorder diagnoses were less autonomous in their self-care abilities. Conclusion: In this study, parenting functions and attitudes were investigated in specific learning disorder for the first time. Lower containing function and overprotectiveness were found to be associated with specific learning disorder and also to have determinant roles for learning problems. Abstract

Ailesel Akdeniz Ateşi (AAA) en yaygın kalıtsal otoenflamatuar hastalıktır. Hastaların% 90'ında klinik bulgular çocukluk çağında ya da ergenlik döneminde ortaya çıkmaktadır.Bu çalışmanın amacı; AAA tanılı çocukların uyku alışkanlıkları ve psikiyatrikbelirtilerini sağlıklı çocuklarla karşılaştırmak ve hastalık ilişkili faktörlere göre uykualışkanlıkları ve psikiyatrik belirtilerdeki değişimi saptamaktır.Çalışmaya AAA tanılı 323 çocuk ve kontrol grubu olarak bilinen kronik hastalığıolmayan 260 çocuk dahil edilmiştir. Sosyodemografik veri formu, Çocuk Uyku AlışkanlıklarıAnketi (ÇUAA), Güçler Güçlükler Anketi (GGA), Çocuklarda Anksiyete ve DepresyonÖlçeği-Yenilenmiş-Çocuk Formu (ÇADÖ-Y) ve Otoinflamatuar Hastalığı Olan ÇocuklardaÇok Boyutlu Değerlendirme Ölçeği kullanılmıştır.Gruplar arasında yaş, cinsiyet ve ÇADÖ-Y açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farkbulunmazken; AAA tanılı grupta ÇUAA, GGA ve yaşam kalitesi istatistiksel olarak anlamlıdüzeyde yüksek bulunmuştur. Uyku problemi olan AAA hastalarında ÇADÖ-Y, GGA veyaşam kalitesi uyku problemi olmayan hastalardan anlamlı düzeyde yüksek bulunmuştur. Sonbir ayda atak geçiren hastaların ÇUAA, ÇADÖ-Y ve yaşam kalitesi skorları atak geçirmeyenhastalardan anlamlı düzeyde yüksek bulunmuştur. AAA hastalarının uyku puanlarınındepresyon ve anksiyete puanları ile ilişkisini değerlendirmek için yapılan regresyon analizindepozitif yönde ilişki bulunmakla beraber açıklayıcılık gücü zayıf bulunmuştur.AAA hastaları sağlıklı çocuklardan daha fazla uyku problemi yaşamakta ve uykuproblemi varlığında psikiyatrik semptomlar daha fazla görülmektedir. Psikopatolojiyle olanyakın ilişkisi nedeniyle uyku problemleri klinisyenler tarafından dikkate alınması gereken birsorundur.Anahtar Kelimeler: Ailesel akdeniz ateşi, uyku, çocuk, adolesan, psikopatoloji Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is the most common inherited autoinflammatorydisease. Clinical manifestations occur in childhood or adolescence in 90% of patients.The aim of this study is to compare sleeping habits and psychiatric symptoms of childrenwith FMF to healthy children and to determine sleep habits and changes in psychiatricsymptoms according to disease-related factors.The study included 323 children with FMF and 260 children without known chronicdisease. The socio-demographic data form, Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ),Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Revised Child Anxiety And Depression ScaleChildVersion (RCADS-CV), Juvenile Autoinflammatory Disease MultidimensionalAssessment Report (JAİMAR) was used.There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of age,gender and RCADS-CV; In the FMF group, CSHQ, SDQ and quality of life were statisticallysignificantly higher. RCADS-CV, SDQ and quality of life were found significantly higher inFMF patients with sleep problems than those without sleep problems. Patients who had attacksin the last month were found to have significantly higher level of CSHQ, RCADS-CV andquality of life scores than those who did not. In the regression analysis conducted to evaluatethe relation of sleep scores of FMF patients with depression and anxiety scores, there waspositive relationship but the explanatory power was found to be weak.FMF patients are experiencing more sleep problems than healthy children andpsychiatric symptoms are more common in the presence of sleep problems.
