In this work, we study the eccentricity spectra of zero divisor graphs (ZDGs) associated with the ring $\mathbb{Z}_n.$ While previous studies have examined the Laplacian and distance Laplacian spectra of ZDGs, the eccentricity spectra have remained largely unknown due to the unique features of the eccentricity matrix. More specifically, we prove that for a prime $p$, the ZDG and extended ZDG of $\mathbb{Z}_{p^t}$ have integral eccentricity eigenvalues for $t \geq 3$ and $t \geq 2$, respectively. We also find the eccentricity spectra for specific classes of ZDGs and the relationship between the eccentricity matrix of these ZDGs and their tree structures using matrix analysis tools. In addition, for the usefulness of the energy gap in applications, we have calculated the eccentricity energy gap of ZDGs. These findings reveal interesting behaviours of the eccentricity matrix and may contribute to a more profound understanding of the structural properties of ZDGs., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figs. The scenario of feedback-free starbursts (FFB), which predicts excessively bright galaxies at cosmic dawn as observed using JWST, may provide a natural setting for black hole (BH) growth. This involves the formation of intermediate-mass seed BHs and their runaway mergers into super-massive BHs with high BH-to-stellar mass ratios and low AGN luminosities. We present a scenario of merger-driven BH growth in FFB galaxies and study its feasibility. BH seeds form within the building blocks of the FFB galaxies, namely, thousands of compact star clusters, each starbursting in a free-fall time of a few Myr before the onset of stellar and supernova feedback. The BH seeds form by rapid core collapse in the FFB clusters, in a few free-fall times, sped up by the migration of massive stars due to the young, broad stellar mass function and stimulated by a `gravo-gyro' instability due to internal cluster rotation and flattening. BHs of $10^4 M_\odot$ are expected in $10^6 M_\odot$ FFB clusters within sub-kpc galactic disks at $z \sim 10$. The BHs then migrate to the galaxy center by dynamical friction, hastened by the compact FFB stellar galactic disk configuration. Efficient mergers of the BH seeds will produce $10^{6-8} M_\odot$ BHs with a BH-to-stellar mass ratio $\sim 0.01$ by $z \sim 4-7$, as observed. The growth of the central BH by mergers can overcome the bottleneck introduced by gravitational wave recoils if the BHs inspiral within a relatively cold disk or if the escape velocity from the galaxy is boosted by a wet compaction event. Such events, common in massive galaxies at high redshifts, can also help by speeding up the inward BH migration and by providing central gas to assist with the final parsec problem. We report on the first measurement of $J/\psi$ photoproduction from nuclei in the photon energy range of $7$ to $10.8$ GeV, extending above and below the photoproduction threshold in the free proton of $\sim8.2$ GeV. The experiment used a tagged photon beam incident on deuterium, helium, and carbon, and the GlueX detector at Jefferson Lab to measure the semi-inclusive $A(\gamma,e^+e^-p)$ reaction with a dilepton invariant mass $M(e^+e^-)\sim m_{J/\psi}=3.1$ GeV. The incoherent $J/\psi$ photoproduction cross sections in the measured nuclei are extracted as a function of the incident photon energy, momentum transfer, and proton reconstructed missing light-cone momentum fraction. Comparisons with theoretical predictions suggest an excess of the measured cross section for sub-threshold production and for interactions with high missing light-cone momentum fraction protons. The measured enhancement can be explained by modified gluon structure for high-virtuality bound-protons.

This paper introduces the hypothetical track-length fitting algorithm, a novel method for measuring the kinetic energies of ionizing particles in liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPCs). The algorithm finds the most probable offset in track length for a track-like object by comparing the measured ionization density as a function of position with a theoretical prediction of the energy loss as a function of the energy, including models of electron recombination and detector response. The algorithm can be used to measure the energies of particles that interact before they stop, such as charged pions that are absorbed by argon nuclei. The algorithm's energy measurement resolutions and fractional biases are presented as functions of particle kinetic energy and number of track hits using samples of stopping secondary charged pions in data collected by the ProtoDUNE-SP detector, and also in a detailed simulation. Additional studies describe impact of the dE/dx model on energy measurement performance. The method described in this paper to characterize the energy measurement performance can be repeated in any LArTPC experiment using stopping secondary charged pions.

We demonstrate an effective and optimal strategy for generating spatially resolved longitudinal spin angular momentum (LSAM) in optical tweezers by tightly focusing first-order azimuthally radially polarized (ARP) vector beams with zero intrinsic angular momentum into a refractive index (RI) stratified medium. The stratified medium gives rise to a spherically aberrated intensity profile near the focal region of the optical tweezers, with off-axis intensity lobes in the radial direction possessing opposite LSAM (helicities corresponding to $\sigma = +1$ and -1) compared to the beam centre. We trap mesoscopic birefringent particles in an off-axis intensity lobe as well as at the beam center by modifying the trapping plane, and observe particles spinning in opposite directions depending on their location. The direction of rotation depends on particle size with large particles spinning either clockwise (CW) or anticlockwise (ACW) depending on the direction of spirality of the polarization of the ARP vector beam after tight focusing, while smaller particles spin in both directions depending on their spatial location. Numerical simulations support our experimental observations. Astrophysical and cosmological observations strongly suggest the existence of Dark Matter. However, it's fundamental nature is still elusive. Collider experiments at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) offer a promising way to reveal the particle nature of the dark matter. In such an endeavour, we investigate the potential of the mono-Higgs plus missing $E_T$ signature at the LHC to search for dark matter. Without going in a particular Ultra-Violet complete model of dark matter, we have used the framework of Effective Field Theory to describe the dynamics of a relatively light fermionic dark matter candidate, which interacts with the Standard Model via dimension-6 and dimension-7 operators involving the Higgs and the gauge bosons. Both cut-based and Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) algorithms have been used to extract the signal for dark matter production over the Standard Model backgrounds, assuming an integrated luminosity of $3000~fb^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}~=~14$ TeV at the High Luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC). The BDT is seen to separate the dark matter signal at $5\sigma$ significance, for masses below 200 GeV, showcasing the prospects of this search at the HL-LHC., Comment: 19 Pages, 8 Figures, 8 Tables

Time-Dependent Constrained Path Optimization (TD-CPO) takes the following input: (i) time-dependent (TD) road network, (ii) source ($s$), (iii) destination ($d$), (iv) departure time ($t$) and, (v) budget ($\mathcal{B}$). In TD graph, each edge is characterized by a time-dependent arrival time and a score function. TD-CPO aims to determine a loopless path $s$--$d$ departing from $s$ at time $t$ and arriving at $d$ on or before $t+\mathcal{B}$ while maximizing the score. TD-CPO has applications in urban navigation. TD-CPO is a variant of the Arc Orienteering Problem (AOP) known to be NP-hard in nature. The key computational challenge of TD-CPO is that we need to find the "longest path" in terms of score within the given budget constraint in a TD graph. Current works prune down the search space very aggressively. Thus, despite having low execution time, these algorithms often produce low-quality solutions. In contrast, our proposed approach $\mathcal{SCOPE}$ efficiently solves TD-CPO by exploiting road networks' spatial and temporal properties. The inherent computational structure of $\mathcal{SCOPE}$ enables trivial parallelization for improved performance. Our experiments indicate that $\mathcal{SCOPE}$ produces superior quality solutions (nearly $2x$) compared to the state-of-the-art algorithm while having comparable running times. Furthermore, $\mathcal{SCOPE}$ exhibits almost linear speedup as the number of CPUs (cores) increases (up to 24 CPUs)., Comment: 10pages 17 figures

The differential equations involving two discrete delays are helpful in modeling two different processes in one model. We provide the stability and bifurcation analysis in the fractional order delay differential equation $D^\alpha x(t)=a x(t)+b x(t-\tau)-b x(t-2\tau)$ in the $ab$-plane. Various regions of stability include stable (S), unstable (U), single stable region (SSR), and stability switch (SS). In the stable region, the system is stable for all the delay values. The region SSR has a critical value of delay that bifurcates the stable and unstable behavior. Switching of stable and unstable behaviors is observed in the SS region., Comment: 25 pages, 27 figures

We present a detailed study of the kinematics of OVI-bearing gas around 60 low-mass (median log(M*/Msun)~8.9) galaxies at low redshift (0.1 < z < 0.7) using background quasars (median impact parameter $\approx115$ kpc) as part of the MUSE Quasar-fields Blind Emitters Survey (MUSEQuBES). We find that the majority of the OVI absorbers detected within the virial radius have line-of-sight velocities smaller than the escape velocities and are thus consistent with being gravitationally bound, irrespective of the halo mass. However, the fraction of such absorbers declines at larger impact parameters. The Doppler $b$ parameter and the velocity width ($\Delta v_{90}$) of the OVI absorbers exhibit large scatter inside the virial radius of the host galaxies, but the scatter declines sharply at impact parameter $D \gtrsim 2R_{\rm vir}$. For high-mass galaxies (log(M*/Msun)>9), OVI absorption displays a larger kinematic spread, quantified by the pixel-velocity two-point correlation function (TPCF). However, this difference disappears for the isolated galaxies when the pixel velocities are scaled by the galaxy's circular velocity. We do not find any significant difference between the TPCF of isolated and group galaxies when the stellar mass is controlled for. A significant fraction of groups (4/6) with four or more member galaxies do not show any detectable OVI absorption, likely due to the passive nature of nearest galaxies., Comment: Submitted to ApJ. We present a study of OVI-bearing gas around 247 low-mass (median log(M*/Msun)~8.7) galaxies at low redshifts (0.1 < z < 0.7) using background quasars as part of the MUSE Quasar-fields Blind Emitters Survey (MUSEQuBES). We find that the average OVI column density, ${\rm log}_{10}$ = $14.14^{+0.09}_{-0.10}$, measured within the virial radius for our sample, is significantly lower than for L_* galaxies. Combining 253 star-forming galaxies (mostly more massive) from the literature with 176 star-forming galaxies from MUSEQuBES, we find that both and the average covering fraction peak at log(M*/Msun)~9.5. The virial temperature corresponding to this stellar mass is ideal for OVI production via collisional ionization. However, we argue that photoionization and/or non-equilibrium processes are necessary to produce the OVI associated with low-mass, dwarf galaxies (log(M*/Msun)<9). The average OVI mass within the virial radius of dwarf galaxies is measured to be $10^{5.2_{-0.1}^{+0.1}}$ Msun. The characteristic normalized impact parameter at which the OVI covering fraction drops to half of its peak value is the largest (~1.1) for galaxies with stellar mass log(M*/Msun)~9.5. We report the presence of a highly ionized metal floor with ${\rm log}_{10}(N({\rm OVI})/{\rm cm}^{-2}) = 13.2$ outside the virial radius of dwarf galaxies inferred from median spectral stacking., Comment: Submitted to ApJ. Nucleon structure functions, as measured in lepton-nucleon scattering, have historically provided a critical observable in the study of partonic dynamics within the nucleon. However, at very large parton momenta it is both experimentally and theoretically challenging to extract parton distributions due to the probable onset of non-perturbative contributions and the unavailability of high precision data at critical kinematics. Extraction of the neutron structure and the d-quark distribution have been further challenging due to the necessity of applying nuclear corrections when utilizing scattering data from a deuteron target to extract free neutron structure. However, a program of experiments has been carried out recently at the energy-upgraded Jefferson Lab electron accelerator aimed at significantly reducing the nuclear correction uncertainties on the d-quark distribution function at large partonic momentum. This allows leveraging the vast body of deuterium data covering a large kinematic range to be utilized for d-quark parton distribution function extraction. We present new data from experiment E12-10-002 carried out in Jefferson Lab Hall C on the deuteron to proton cross-section ratio at large BJorken-x. These results significantly improve the precision of existing data, and provide a first look at the expected impact on quark distributions extracted from global parton distribution function fits.

Nano-positioning plays a very important role in applications such as scanning probe microscopy and optics. We report the development of a compact inertial nanopositioner along with fully computer interfaced electronics operating down to 2 K, and its use in our fully automated needle-anvil type Point Contact Andreev Reflection (PCAR) apparatus. We also present the fully automated operational procedures using LabVIEW interface with our home-built electronics. The point contact spectroscopy probe has been successfully used to perform PCAR measurements on elemental superconductors at low temperatures. The small footprint of our nano-positioner makes it ideally suited for incorporation in low temperature scanning probe microscopes and makes this design versatile for various research and industrial purposes.

The nexus of quantum computing and machine learning - quantum machine learning - offers the potential for significant advancements in chemistry. This review specifically explores the potential of quantum neural networks on gate-based quantum computers within the context of drug discovery. We discuss the theoretical foundations of quantum machine learning, including data encoding, variational quantum circuits, and hybrid quantum-classical approaches. Applications to drug discovery are highlighted, including molecular property prediction and molecular generation. We provide a balanced perspective, emphasizing both the potential benefits and the challenges that must be addressed.

HOPS 87 is a Class 0 protostellar core known to harbor an extremely young bipolar outflow and a hot corino. We report the discovery of localized, chemically rich regions near the bases of the two-lobe bipolar molecular outflow in HOPS 87 containing molecules such as H$_2$CO, $^{13}$CS, H$_2$S, OCS, and CH$_3$OH, the simplest complex organic molecule (COM). The locations and kinematics suggest that these localized features are due to jet-driven shocks rather than being part of the hot corino region encasing the protostar. The COM compositions of the molecular gas in these jet-localized regions are relatively simpler than those in the hot corino zone. We speculate that this simplicity is due to either the liberation of ice with a less complex chemical history or the effects of shock chemistry. Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI assistants driven by these models are experiencing exponential growth in usage among both expert and amateur users. In this work, we focus on evaluating the reliability of current LLMs as science communicators. Unlike existing benchmarks, our approach emphasizes assessing these models on scientific questionanswering tasks that require a nuanced understanding and awareness of answerability. We introduce a novel dataset, SCiPS-QA, comprising 742 Yes/No queries embedded in complex scientific concepts, along with a benchmarking suite that evaluates LLMs for correctness and consistency across various criteria. We benchmark three proprietary LLMs from the OpenAI GPT family and 13 open-access LLMs from the Meta Llama-2, Llama-3, and Mistral families. While most open-access models significantly underperform compared to GPT-4 Turbo, our experiments identify Llama-3-70B as a strong competitor, often surpassing GPT-4 Turbo in various evaluation aspects. We also find that even the GPT models exhibit a general incompetence in reliably verifying LLM responses. Moreover, we observe an alarming trend where human evaluators are deceived by incorrect responses from GPT-4 Turbo.

We consider the possibility of indirect detection of dark sector processes by investigating a novel form of interaction between ambient dark matter (DM) and primordial black holes (PBHs). The basic scenario we envisage is that the ambient DM is ``dormant'', \ie, it has interactions with the SM, but its potential for an associated SM signal is not realized for various reasons. We argue that the presence of PBHs with active Hawking radiation (independent of any DM considerations) can act as a catalyst in this regard by overcoming the aforementioned bottlenecks. The central point is that PBHs radiate all types of particles, whether in the standard model (SM) or beyond (BSM), which have a mass at or below their Hawking temperature. The emission of such radiation is ``democratic" (up to the particle spin), since it is based on a coupling of sorts of gravitational origin. In particular, such shining of (possibly dark sector) particles onto ambient DM can then activate the latter into giving potentially observable SM signals. We illustrate this general mechanism with two specific models. First, we consider asymmetric DM, which is characterized by an absence of ambient anti-DM, and consequently the absence of DM indirect detection signals. In this case, PBHs can ``resurrect'' such a signal by radiating anti-DM, which then annihilates with ambient DM in order to give SM particles such as photons. In our second example, we consider the PBH emission of dark gauge bosons which can excite ambient DM into a heavier state (which is, again, not ambient otherwise), this heavier state later decays back into DM and photons. Finally, we demonstrate that we can obtain observable signals of these BSM models from asteroid-mass PBHs (Hawking radiating currently with $\sim \mathcal{O}(\mathrm{MeV})$ temperatures) at gamma-ray experiments such as AMEGO-X., Comment: 19 pages + 3 appendices, 9 figures

Ensuring annotator quality in training and evaluation data is a key piece of machine learning in NLP. Tasks such as sentiment analysis and offensive speech detection are intrinsically subjective, creating a challenging scenario for traditional quality assessment approaches because it is hard to distinguish disagreement due to poor work from that due to differences of opinions between sincere annotators. With the goal of increasing diverse perspectives in annotation while ensuring consistency, we propose \texttt{ARTICLE}, an in-context learning (ICL) framework to estimate annotation quality through self-consistency. We evaluate this framework on two offensive speech datasets using multiple LLMs and compare its performance with traditional methods. Our findings indicate that \texttt{ARTICLE} can be used as a robust method for identifying reliable annotators, hence improving data quality.

This paper makes three key contributions. First, via a substantial corpus of 51,278 interview questions sourced from 888 YouTube videos of mock interviews of Indian civil service candidates, we demonstrate stark gender bias in the broad nature of questions asked to male and female candidates. Second, our experiments with large language models show a strong presence of gender bias in explanations provided by the LLMs on the gender inference task. Finally, we present a novel dataset of 51,278 interview questions that can inform future social science studies.

We theoretically investigate the thermoelectric response of inflated Fermi surfaces (IFSs) generated in a two dimensional unconventional $d$-wave superconductor subjected to an external in-plane Zeeman field. These IFSs exhibiting the same dimension as the underlying normal state Fermi surface are topologically protected by combinations of discrete symmetries. Utilizing the Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk formalism and considering normal-$d$-wave superconductor hybrid junction, we compute the thermoelectric coefficients including thermal conductance, Seebeck coefficient, figure of merit ($zT$), and examine the validation of Widemann-Franz law in the presence of both voltage and temperature bias. Importantly, as a signature of anisotropic nature of $d$-wave pairing, Andreev bound states (ABSs) formed at the normal-superconductor interface play a significant role in the thermoelectric response. In the presence of ABSs, we observe a substantial enhancement in Seebeck coefficient ($\sim 200\,\mu$V/K) and $zT$ ($\sim 3.5$) due to the generation of the IFSs and thus making such setup a potential candidate for device applications. We present a weak lensing analysis of the galaxy cluster Abell 2390 at z = 0.23 using second moment shape measurements made in 411 short 60s exposures. The exposures are obtained in three broadband photometric filters (g, r, i) using WIYN-ODI. Shape measurement in individual exposures is done using a moment matching algorithm. Forced measurement is used when the moment matching algorithm fails to converge at low signal to noise ratio (SNR). The measurements made in individual images are combined using inverse error weight to obtain accurate shape of sources and hence recover shear. We use PhoSim simulations to validate shear measurements recovered by our pipeline. We find the mass of Abell 2390 is in agreement with previously published results. We also find the E-Mode maps show filamentary structures consistent with baryonic structures and recovers most clusters/groups of galaxies found using Optical and X-Ray data. Thus we demonstrate the feasibility of using Weak Lensing to map large scale structure of the universe. We also find the central portion of the cluster has a bimodal mass distribution and the relative orientation of the peaks are similar to X-Ray. We discuss earlier research on this galaxy cluster and show that a late stage merger accounts for all the observed data., Comment: Accepted in ApJ

We investigate the thermodynamics of a Schwarzschild black hole, surrounded by the quintessence energy-matter in the linear and quadratic generalized uncertainty principle framework. Considering the variance in the position to be of the order of the event horizon radius and equating the variance in the momentum to the Hawking temperature of the black hole, we substitute these variances in the deformed algebra. From there we obtained the generalized uncertainty principle-modified black hole temperature and eventually the specific heat of the black hole. Then we calculate the critical as well as the remnant mass and obtain the entropy relation. We observe that the entropy relation includes the usual leading order ``\textit{area divided by four}" term, sub-leading logarithmic term, and higher order inverse of the area corrections. Finally, calculating the energy output as a function of time, we obtain the evaporation time of the black hole. The widespread deployment of products powered by machine learning models is raising concerns around data privacy and information security worldwide. To address this issue, Federated Learning was first proposed as a privacy-preserving alternative to conventional methods that allow multiple learning clients to share model knowledge without disclosing private data. A complementary approach known as Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) is a quantum-safe cryptographic system that enables operations to be performed on encrypted weights. However, implementing mechanisms such as these in practice often comes with significant computational overhead and can expose potential security threats. Novel computing paradigms, such as analog, quantum, and specialized digital hardware, present opportunities for implementing privacy-preserving machine learning systems while enhancing security and mitigating performance loss. As Chile's electric power sector advances toward a future powered by renewable energy, accurate forecasting of renewable generation is essential for managing grid operations. The integration of renewable energy sources is particularly challenging due to the operational difficulties of managing their power generation, which is highly variable compared to fossil fuel sources, delaying the availability of clean energy. To mitigate this, we quantify the impact of increasing intermittent generation from wind and solar on thermal power plants in Chile and introduce a hybrid wind speed forecasting methodology which combines two custom ML models for Chile. The first model is based on TiDE, an MLP-based ML model for short-term forecasts, and the second is based on a graph neural network, GraphCast, for medium-term forecasts up to 10 days. Our hybrid approach outperforms the most accurate operational deterministic systems by 4-21% for short-term forecasts and 5-23% for medium-term forecasts and can directly lower the impact of wind generation on thermal ramping, curtailment, and system-level emissions in Chile.

We derive an exact analytical expression, at stroboscopic intervals, for the time-dependent wave function of a class of integrable quantum many-body systems, driven by the periodic delta-kick protocol. To investigate long-time dynamics, we use the wave-function to obtain an exact analytical expression for the expectation value of defect density, magnetization, residual energy, fidelity, and correlation function after the $n$th drive cycle. Periodically driven integrable closed quantum systems absorb energy, and the long-time universal dynamics are described by the periodic generalized Gibbs ensemble(GGE). We demonstrate that the expectation values of all observables are divided into two parts: one highly oscillatory term that depends on the drive cycle $n$, and the rest of the terms are independent of it. Typically, the $n$-independent part constitutes the saturation at large $n$ and periodic GGE. The contribution from the highly oscillatory term vanishes in large $n$., Comment: 11 pages, 15 figures

Due to the absorption of high energetic ultraviolet (UV) photons by the surface layers of the cold molecular clouds, only low energetic photons are able to penetrate into the inner regions of these clouds. This leads to lower photo-ionization yield of molecules of higher ionization potential in these environments. However, here we have experimentally shown the ionization of Benzonitrile molecule using 266nm (4.66eV) photons. The low intensity and unfocused laser irradiation of benzonitrile molecules results extensive fragmentation. Moreover, the ion-neutral reactions among the cationic fragments and neutral fragments shows promising molecular mass growth.

The traditional Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation has often delineated the linear and nonlinear magnetization dynamics, even at ultrashort timescales e.g., femtoseconds. In contrast, several other non-relativistic and relativistic spin torques have been reported as an extension of the LLG spin dynamics. Here, we explore the contribution of the relativistic field-derivative torque (FDT) in the nonlinear THz magnetization dynamics response applied to ferrimagnets with high Gilbert damping and exchange magnon frequency. Our findings suggest that the FDT plays a significant role in magnetization dynamics in both linear and nonlinear regimes, bridging the gap between the traditional LLG spin dynamics and experimental observations. We find that the coherent THz magnon excitation amplitude is enhanced with the field-derivative torque. Furthermore, a phase shift in the magnon oscillation is induced by the FDT term. This phase shift is almost 90 for the antiferromagnet, while it is almost zero for the ferrimagnet under our investigation. Analyzing the dual THz excitation and their FDT, we find that the nonlinear signals can not be distinctly observed without the FDT terms. We present a protocol to generate enhanced non-linear responses of incident pulses in the density wave phase within the extended Bose-Hubbard model using the concept of resonance-induced amplification (RIA). This method enables the selection of an incident pulse frequency to amplify the desired harmonic order. We characterize the enhancement of the non-linear harmonic spectra under various frequencies and field strengths of the incident pulses, and demonstrate that an optimal field strength is necessary to realize our protocol., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

The self-similarity of complex systems has been studied intensely across different domains due to its potential applications in system modeling, complexity analysis, etc., as well as for deep theoretical interest. Existing studies rely on scale transformations conceptualized over either a definite geometric structure of the system (very often realized as length-scale transformations) or purely temporal scale transformations. However, many physical and social systems are observed as temporal interactions among agents without any definitive geometry. Yet, one can imagine the existence of an underlying notion of distance as the interactions are mostly localized. Analysing only the time-scale transformations over such systems would uncover only a limited aspect of the complexity. In this work, we propose a novel technique of scale transformation that dissects temporal interaction networks under spatio-temporal scales, namely, flow scales. Upon experimenting with multiple social and biological interaction networks, we find that many of them possess a finite fractal dimension under flow-scale transformation. Finally, we relate the emergence of flow-scale self-similarity to the latent geometry of such networks. We observe strong evidence that justifies the assumption of an underlying, variable-curvature hyperbolic geometry that induces self-similarity of temporal interaction networks. Our work bears implications for modeling temporal interaction networks at different scales and uncovering their latent geometric structures.

Most music generation models directly generate a single music mixture. To allow for more flexible and controllable generation, the Multi-Source Diffusion Model (MSDM) has been proposed to model music as a mixture of multiple instrumental sources (e.g. piano, drums, bass, and guitar). Its goal is to use one single diffusion model to generate mutually-coherent music sources, that are then mixed to form the music. Despite its capabilities, MSDM is unable to generate music with rich melodies and often generates empty sounds. Its waveform diffusion approach also introduces significant Gaussian noise artifacts that compromise audio quality. In response, we introduce a Multi-Source Latent Diffusion Model (MSLDM) that employs Variational Autoencoders (VAEs) to encode each instrumental source into a distinct latent representation. By training a VAE on all music sources, we efficiently capture each source's unique characteristics in a "source latent." The source latents are concatenated and our diffusion model learns this joint latent space. This approach significantly enhances the total and partial generation of music by leveraging the VAE's latent compression and noise-robustness. The compressed source latent also facilitates more efficient generation. Subjective listening tests and Frechet Audio Distance (FAD) scores confirm that our model outperforms MSDM, showcasing its practical and enhanced applicability in music generation systems. The concept of quantum teleportation is fundamental in the theory of quantum communication. Developing models of quantum teleportation in different physical scenario is a modern trend of research in this direction. This work is at the interface of hypergraph theory and quantum teleportation. We propose a new teleportation protocol for qutrit states in a noisy environment. This protocol utilizes a shared quantum hypergraph state between parties as quantum channels, to carry quantum information. During the preparation of the shared state different quantum noise may act on it. In this article, we consider six types of noises which are generalized for qutrits using Wyel operators. They are the qutrit-flip noise, qutrit-phase-flip noise, depolarizing noise, Markovian and non-Markovian amplitude damping channel, Markovian and non-Markovian dephasing channel, and non-Markovian depolarization noise. There are only five qutrit hypergraph states which satisfies our requirements to be used as a channel. We consider all of them in this work. Speech emotion recognition (SER), the task of identifying the expression of emotion from spoken content, is challenging due to the difficulty in extracting representations that capture emotional attributes from speech. The scarcity of large labeled datasets further complicates the challenge where large models are prone to over-fitting. In this paper, we propose CARE (Content and Acoustic Representations of Emotions), where we design a dual encoding scheme which emphasizes semantic and acoustic factors of speech. While the semantic encoder is trained with the distillation of utterance-level text representation model, the acoustic encoder is trained to predict low-level frame-wise features of the speech signal. The proposed dual encoding scheme is a base-sized model trained only on unsupervised raw speech. With a simple light-weight classification model trained on the downstream task, we show that the CARE embeddings provide effective emotion recognition on a variety of tasks. We compare the proposal with several other self-supervised models as well as recent large-language model based approaches. In these evaluations, the proposed CARE model is shown to be the best performing model based on average performance across 8 diverse datasets. We investigate one and two texture zeros in the neutrino mass matrix using the latest oscillation data through a bottom-up approach. In this context, we begin by estimating the detailed features of each matrix element by varying the CP violating phases within $(0,\,2\pi)$, the lowest neutrino mass within $(0,\,1)\,{\rm eV}$ and the neutrino oscillation parameters such as three mixing angles and the two mass squared differences within $3\sigma$ of their central values. We find that for normal ordering, only $ee$, $e\mu$ and $e\tau$ elements of the mass matrix can vanish, whereas, for inverted ordering, five elements -- $e\mu$, $e\tau$, $\mu\mu$, $\mu\tau$ and $\tau\tau$ -- can vanish. For two texture zeros, only $(ee,\, e\mu = 0)$ and $(ee,\, e\tau =0)$ are allowed in case of normal ordering. For a particular vanishing element, we also estimate the range of the lowest neutrino mass and the CP violating phases. In particular, very interesting correlation among the CP violating phases and the lowest neutrino mass is obtained for each vanishing cases., Comment: 24 pages

Despite a plethora of research dedicated to designing HITs for non-workstations, there is a lack of research looking specifically into workers' perceptions of the suitability of these devices for managing and completing work. In this work, we fill this research gap by conducting an online survey of 148 workers on Amazon Mechanical Turk to explore 1. how crowdworkers currently use their non-workstation devices to complete and manage crowdwork, 2. what challenges they face using those devices, and 3. to what extent they wish they could use those devices if their concerns were addressed. Our results show that workers unanimously favor using a desktop to complete and manage crowdwork. While workers occasionally use smartphones or tablets, they find their suitability marginal at best and have little interest in smart speakers and smartwatches, viewing them as unsuitable for crowdwork. When investigating the reason for these views, we find that the key issue is that non workstation devices lack the tooling necessary to automatically find and accept HITs, tooling that workers view as essential in their efforts to compete with bots in accepting high paying work. To address this problem, we propose a new paradigm for finding, accepting, and completing crowdwork that puts crowdworkers on equal footing with bots in these tasks. We also describe future research directions for tailoring HITs to non workstation devices and definitely answering whether smart speakers and smartwatches have a place in crowdwork.

Crowdsourcing platforms have traditionally been designed with a focus on workstation interfaces, restricting the flexibility that crowdworkers need. Recognizing this limitation and the need for more adaptable platforms, prior research has highlighted the diverse work processes of crowdworkers, influenced by factors such as device type and work stage. However, these variables have largely been studied in isolation. Our study is the first to explore the interconnected variabilities among these factors within the crowdwork community. Through a survey involving 150 Amazon Mechanical Turk crowdworkers, we uncovered three distinct groups characterized by their interrelated variabilities in key work aspects. The largest group exhibits a reliance on traditional devices, showing limited interest in integrating smartphones and tablets into their work routines. The second-largest group also primarily uses traditional devices but expresses a desire for supportive tools and scripts that enhance productivity across all devices, particularly smartphones and tablets. The smallest group actively uses and strongly prefers non-workstation devices, especially smartphones and tablets, for their crowdworking activities. We translate our findings into design insights for platform developers, discussing the implications for creating more personalized, flexible, and efficient crowdsourcing environments. Additionally, we highlight the unique work practices of these crowdworker clusters, offering a contrast to those of more traditional and established worker groups.

This paper investigates the RWKV model's efficacy in content moderation through targeted experimentation. We introduce a novel dataset specifically designed for distillation into smaller models, enhancing content moderation practices. This comprehensive dataset encompasses images, videos, sounds, and text data that present societal challenges. Leveraging advanced Large Language Models (LLMs), we generated an extensive set of responses -- 558,958 for text and 83,625 for images -- to train and refine content moderation systems. Our core experimentation involved fine-tuning the RWKV model, capitalizing on its CPU-efficient architecture to address large-scale content moderation tasks. By highlighting the dataset's potential for knowledge distillation, this study not only demonstrates RWKV's capability in improving the accuracy and efficiency of content moderation systems but also paves the way for developing more compact, resource-efficient models in this domain. We report new pion electroproduction measurements in the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance, utilizing the SHMS - HMS magnetic spectrometers of Hall C at Jefferson Lab. The data focus on a region that exhibits a strong and rapidly changing interplay of the mesonic cloud and quark-gluon dynamics in the nucleon. The results are in reasonable agreement with models that employ pion cloud effects and chiral effective field theory calculations, but at the same time they suggest that an improvement is required to the theoretical calculations and provide valuable input that will allow their refinements. The data illustrate the potential of the magnetic spectrometers setup in Hall C towards the study the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance. These first reported results will be followed by a series of measurements in Hall C, that will expand the studies of the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance offering a high precision insight within a wide kinematic range from low to high momentum transfers.

We study local stochastic gradient descent methods for solving federated optimization over a network of agents communicating indirectly through a centralized coordinator. We are interested in the Byzantine setting where there is a subset of $f$ malicious agents that could observe the entire network and send arbitrary values to the coordinator to disrupt the performance of other non-faulty agents. The objective of the non-faulty agents is to collaboratively compute the optimizer of their respective local functions under the presence of Byzantine agents. In this setting, prior works show that the local stochastic gradient descent method can only return an approximate of the desired solutions due to the impacts of Byzantine agents. Whether this method can find an exact solution remains an open question. In this paper, we will address this open question by proposing a new variant of the local stochastic gradient descent method. Under similar conditions that are considered in the existing works, we will show that the proposed method converges exactly to the desired solutions. We will provide theoretical results to characterize the convergence properties of our method, in particular, the proposed method convergences at an optimal rate $\mathcal{O}(1/k)$ in both strongly convex and non-convex settings, where $k$ is the number of iterations. Finally, we will present a number of simulations to illustrate our theoretical results.

The growing computational demands of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing climate change raise significant concerns about inefficiencies and environmental impact, as highlighted by the Jevons paradox. We propose an attention-enhanced quantum physics-informed neural networks model (AQ-PINNs) to tackle these challenges. This approach integrates quantum computing techniques into physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) for climate modeling, aiming to enhance predictive accuracy in fluid dynamics governed by the Navier-Stokes equations while reducing the computational burden and carbon footprint. By harnessing variational quantum multi-head self-attention mechanisms, our AQ-PINNs achieve a 51.51% reduction in model parameters compared to classical multi-head self-attention methods while maintaining comparable convergence and loss. It also employs quantum tensor networks to enhance representational capacity, which can lead to more efficient gradient computations and reduced susceptibility to barren plateaus. We study the radial transport of cold gas within simulated disk galaxies at cosmic noon, aiming at distinguishing between disk instability and accretion along cold streams from the cosmic web as its driving mechanism. Disks are selected based on kinematics and flattening from the VELA zoom-in hydro-cosmological simulations. The radial velocity fields in the disks are mapped, their averages are computed as a function of radius and over the whole disk, and the radial mass flux in each disk as a function of radius is obtained. The transport directly associated with fresh incoming streams is identified by selecting cold gas cells that are either on incoming streamlines or have low metallicity. The radial velocity fields in VELA disks are found to be highly non-axisymmetric, showing both inflows and outflows. However, in most cases, the average radial velocities, both as a function of radius and over the whole disk, are directed inwards, with the disk-averaged radial velocities typically amounting to a few percent of the disk-averaged rotational velocities. This is significantly lower than the expectations from various models that analytically predict the inward mass transport as driven by torques associated with disk instability. Under certain simplifying assumptions, the latter typically predict average inflows of more than $10\%$ of the rotational velocities. Analyzing the radial motions of streams and off-stream material, we find that the radial inflow in VELA disks is dominated by the stream inflows themselves, especially in the outer disks. The high inward radial velocities inferred in observed disks at cosmic noon, at the level of $\sim \! 20\%$ of the rotational velocities, may reflect inflowing streams from the cosmic web rather than being generated by disk instability., Comment: 20 pages, 14 figures, submitted to A&A

We characterize, for the first time, the average extended emission in multiple lines ([OII], [OIII], and Hbeta) around a statistical sample of 560 galaxies at z~0.25-0.85. By stacking the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) 3D data from two large surveys, the MUSE Analysis of Gas around Galaxies (MAGG) and the MUSE Ultra Deep Field (MUDF), we detect significant [OII] emission out to ~40 kpc, while [OIII] and Hbeta emission is detected out to ~30 kpc. Via comparisons with the nearby average stellar continuum emission, we find that the line emission at 20-30 kpc likely arises from the disk-halo interface. Combining our results with that of our previous study at z~1, we find that the average [OII] surface brightness increases independently with redshift over z~0.4-1.3 and with stellar mass over M* ~10^{6-12} Msun, which is likely driven by the star formation rate as well as the physical conditions of the gas. By comparing the observed line fluxes with photoionization models, we find that the ionization parameter declines with distance, going from log q (cm/s) ~7.7 at <=5 kpc to ~7.3 at 20-30 kpc, which reflects a weaker radiation field in the outer regions of galaxies. The gas-phase metallicity shows no significant variation over 30 kpc, with a metallicity gradient of ~0.003 dex/kpc, which indicates an efficient mixing of metals on these scales. The imposition of a global constraint of the conservation of total kinetic energy on a forced-dissipative Burgers equation yields a governing equation that is invariant under the time-reversal symmetry operation, $\{\mathcal{T}: t \to -t; u \to -u \}$, where $u$ is the velocity field. Moreover, the dissipation term gets strongly modified, as the viscosity is no longer a constant, but a fluctuating, state dependent quantity, which can even become negative in certain dynamical regimes. Despite these differences, the statistical properties of different dynamical regimes of the time-reversible Burgers equation and the standard forced-dssipative Burgers equation are equivalent, \`a la Gallavotti's conjecture of \textit{equivalence of nonequilibrium ensembles}. We show that the negative viscosity events occur only in the thermalized regime described by the time-reversible equation. This quasi-equilibrium regime is examined by calculating the local Lyapunov spectra and fluctuation relations. A pairing symmetry among the spectra is observed, indicating that the dynamics is chaotic and has an attractor spanning the entire phase space of the system. The violations of the second law of thermodynamics are found to be in accordance with the fluctuation relations, namely the Gallavotti-Cohen relation based on the phase-space contraction rate and the Cohen-Searles fluctuation relation based on the energy production rate. It is also argued that these violations are associated with the effects of the Galerkin-truncation, the latter is responsible for the thermalization.

We have measured the flavor dependence of multiplicities for pi^+ and pi^- production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) on proton and deuteron targets to explore a possible charge symmetry violation in fragmentation functions. The experiment used an electron beam with energies of 10.2 and 10.6 GeV at Jefferson Lab and the Hall-C spectrometers. The electron kinematics spanned the range 0.3

We investigate the magnetic and conduction properties of Kane-Mele Hubbard model in quasi one-dimensional honeycomb ribbon systems at half-filling by varying the strength of both spin-orbit interaction and on-site Coulomb correlation term. We use the numerical many-body configuration interaction (CI) method to investigate the dispersions of charge and spin gaps along with the momentum resolved spin-density profile over the full Brillouin zone. While the spin sector retains its topological nature at all values of spin-orbit coupling and Hubbard term, we report a new signature of the topological phase transition in the charge sector. This phase transition from a topological band insulating phase to a antiferromagnetically ordered Mott insulating phase is characterized by a shift of the many-body charge gap minima from Brillouin zone boundary to Dirac point. Our results provide a better understanding of the shifting of the gap-closing point in the momentum space which was reported in an earlier mean-field study of the same model and suggests an alternative numerical route to detect topological phase transition in strongly-correlated systems in terms of their momentum space behaviors., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

It is conceivable that a bosonic dark matter (DM) with non-gravitational interactions with SM particles will be accumulated at the center of a neutron star (NS) and can lead to black hole formation. In contrast to previous works with a fixed NS temperature, we dynamically determine the formation of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) for a given set of DM parameters, namely the DM-neutron scattering cross-section ($\sigma_{\chi n}$), the thermal average of DM annihilation cross-section ($\langle\sigma v\rangle$) and the DM mass ($m_\chi$). For both non-annihilating and annihilating DM with $\langle\sigma v\rangle \leq 10^{-26}{~\rm cm^3~ s^{-1}}$, the BEC forms for $m_\chi \lesssim 10 ~{\rm TeV}$. In case of non-annihilating DM, observations of old NS allow $\sigma_{\chi n}\lesssim 10^{-52}~{\rm cm^2}$ for $10 {~\rm MeV} \leq m_{\chi} \lesssim 10 {~\rm GeV}$ (with BEC) and $\sigma_{\chi n}\lesssim 10^{-47}~{\rm cm^2}$ for $5 {~\rm TeV} \lesssim m_\chi \lesssim 30 {~\rm PeV} $ (without BEC). This analysis shows the mass window, $10 {~\rm GeV} \lesssim m_\chi \lesssim 5 {~\rm TeV}$ unconstrained, subject only to direct detection experiments. In the annihilating DM scenario, the exclusion limits on DM parameters become weaker and even vanish for typical WIMP annihilation cross-section. However, the late-time heating of the NS enables us to probe the region with $\sigma_{\chi n}\gtrsim 10^{-47}~{\rm cm^2}$, using the James Webb Space Telescope in the foreseeable future. When our results are viewed in the context of indirect searches of DM, it provides a lower limit on the $\langle\sigma v\rangle$, which is sensitive to the DM thermal state., Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures

In this work, we have extensively investigated the dynamics of circular geodesic (chargeless massive particle) followed by the investigation of the pulsating classical string in the p-brane background. This study is a continuation of our previous work (arXiv:2307.12350v3), in which we numerically identified the presence of chaos for a classical string hovering near generic p-branes ($p < 7$). Here, for a particle probe, we have found evidence of chaos in the vicinity of the horizon. Furthermore, we observed a violation of the well-known MSS bound in specific extremal p-branes; however, no such violation is seen in the non-extremal cases. Similar observations were made for the classical string, where the violation of the bound is significant near the horizon. Thus, our semi-analytical arguments demonstrate that chaotic dynamics in black p-branes exhibit the (generalized) universal bound with notable violations, regardless of whether a particle or classical string is used as a probe., Comment: 23 pages, 26 figures

The international collaboration designing and constructing the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) at the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) has developed a two-phase strategy toward the implementation of this leading-edge, large-scale science project. The 2023 report of the US Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5) reaffirmed this vision and strongly endorsed DUNE Phase I and Phase II, as did the European Strategy for Particle Physics. While the construction of the DUNE Phase I is well underway, this White Paper focuses on DUNE Phase II planning. DUNE Phase-II consists of a third and fourth far detector (FD) module, an upgraded near detector complex, and an enhanced 2.1 MW beam. The fourth FD module is conceived as a "Module of Opportunity", aimed at expanding the physics opportunities, in addition to supporting the core DUNE science program, with more advanced technologies. This document highlights the increased science opportunities offered by the DUNE Phase II near and far detectors, including long-baseline neutrino oscillation physics, neutrino astrophysics, and physics beyond the standard model. It describes the DUNE Phase II near and far detector technologies and detector design concepts that are currently under consideration. A summary of key R&D goals and prototyping phases needed to realize the Phase II detector technical designs is also provided. DUNE's Phase II detectors, along with the increased beam power, will complete the full scope of DUNE, enabling a multi-decadal program of groundbreaking science with neutrinos.
