Blowfish privacy is a recent generalisation of differential privacy that enables improved utility while maintaining privacy policies with semantic guarantees, a factor that has driven the popularity of differential privacy in computer science. This paper relates Blowfish privacy to an important measure of privacy loss of information channels from the communications theory community: min-entropy leakage. Symmetry in an input data neighbouring relation is central to known connections between differential privacy and min-entropy leakage. But while differential privacy exhibits strong symmetry, Blowfish neighbouring relations correspond to arbitrary simple graphs owing to the framework's flexible privacy policies. To bound the min-entropy leakage of Blowfish-private mechanisms we organise our analysis over symmetrical partitions corresponding to orbits of graph automorphism groups. A construction meeting our bound with asymptotic equality demonstrates tightness., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures; accepted to IEEE Transactions on Information Theory

People reporting same-sex sexual preference have been found to be smarter (Weinrich, 1978) including in random samples such as the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, the General Social Survey and the National Child Development Study (Kanazawa, 2012). It has been speculated that this is caused by intelligence mediating closeting (LeVay, 2017), suggesting the less intelligent may be at greater risk of marginalization due to their identity. I will attempt to replicate the literature by testing for a genetic correlation between same-sex behavior and cognitive ability. I will test the ‘cognitive closeting hypothesis’ using the latent causal variable model. KANAZAWA, S. (2012). INTELLIGENCE AND HOMOSEXUALITY. Understanding the rise and evolution of turbulence is an important component of designing vehicles and turbomachinery that both have long life and are efficient. To this end, researchers study the complex phenomenon of turbulence. Free-stream turbulence against a flat plate is a common research area in fluid dynamics where one goal is to understand the transition from laminar to turbulent flow when colliding with a physical plate. There are several methods that have been tested, each based on a physical property of the flow, and each with respective advantages and disadvantages. One such issue is that of thresholding, which leads to flickering in animations. In this thesis, attempts to identify the turbulence is done by extracting the extrema of the flow data, followed by applying a Gaussian smoothing using Kernel Density Estimation to create a "density" field based on the spatial positions of the identified extrema. The method in this thesis is applied both in 2D and 3D, where the 3D results are visualized in both 2D and 3D perspectives. The results are then analyzed from the perspective of the smoothing method and compared against both earlier results from previous methods and the original data. Results of the method show that the extrema indeed can be be used to identify turbulent regions of the flow data. However, there were small turbulent regions visible in the original data that did not appear in the results of this thesis. When applying the kernel smoothing, a bandwidth (smoothing parameter) of 4:5 X 10-3 was used for the entire data set. Binary results from this choice of bandwidth were possible through thresholding, however, slight flickering is still observable. It is suggested that a larger bandwidth would give better results. The visual 3D results support the hypothesis that the extrema can be used to distinguish between laminar and turbulent regions of flow, and applying the smoothing method only on 2D slices gave better results when looking from a 2D perspective compared to the 3D method, which had some misleading results.

Household robotics is on the rise with robotic vacuum cleaners taking the lead. One of the challenges in creating great robotic vacuum cleaners is path planning for coverage of the room. For instance, the robot might not know how the environment looks, or where in the room the robot is. Three path planning algorithms are tested: the random path algorithm, the snaking algorithm and the spiral algorithm. In our simulations the random algorithm was initially faster than the snaking algorithm. However, the random algorithm's performance worsened and it performed similar to the snaking algorithm in the end. The spiral algorithm performed worse than the other tested algorithms. The random algorithm showed a more stable performance than both the snaking and spiral algorithms. However, we believe that the spiral algorithm could be complemented with other algorithms. Errors in the results could possibly come from the method used in the software to detect wall collisions. Future research could improve the software and also cover collision with objects in rooms and rooms of other shapes. We concluded that the random algorithm performed best in our simulations and questioned the practical use of more advanced algorithms.
