The fishery of Red grouper, Epinephelus morio, is one of the most commercially important in Yucatan, Mexico. However, catch trends declined from more than 14,000 t in 1970 to less than 6500 t in 2019. Consequently, the fishery authority (CONAPESCA) declared this fishery overexploited. Stakeholders may play a fundamental role regulating catch trends of Red grouper adopting responsible fishing and consumption. This work aimed to evaluate perceptions of stakeholders (fishers and fish consumers) on consumption, fishing status, and conservation of Red grouper in Yucatan using interviews and web-based questionnaires. Results revealed stakeholders regularly consume Red grouper, with fishing and consumption influenced by economic, social, and cultural factors. Stakeholders were aware of the fishery management in place, such as a seasonal, fishing ban and the minimum catch size, established by the federal government for Red grouper. Differences emerged regarding perception on fishery management between fishers and fish consumers. All stakeholders showed a willingness to follow regulations and responsible consumption during the ban, and proposed alternatives for protection through enhancing fishery regulatory measures, updating the ban and establishing spatial restrictions, such as zones for fishery protection (no-take zones). Understanding stakeholder perceptions is utmost because identifying this knowledge could provide a clearer scenario and more focused fishery management approaches for managers to promote the recovery of the Red grouper fishery. We recommend implementing a precautionary management scheme based on a combination of a management strategic evaluation and a renovated fishery strategy, along with other community-based approaches, for the Red grouper fishery in Yucatan [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FISH as food , *CONSUMER behavior , *NEOPHOBIA , *NATURAL foods , *HIERARCHICAL clustering (Cluster analysis) - Abstract
The objective of this study was to expand on the limited awareness of the U.S. fish consumer. Measures were tested through a Web-based national survey. The final survey consisted of 40 questions, including environmental awareness, food neophobia, fish consumption, reasons for consuming fish, and demographic variables. Correlations andttests were used to analyze relationships between eating fish in restaurants and other variables. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to segment respondents into two groups based on their environmental awareness and neophylic/neophobic attitudes. EcoFish consumers were more likely to be male, eat fish for health and the environment, and eat fish at restaurants significantly more than the Indifferent Fish consumers. Restaurants can use these results to market to eco-friendly, health-conscious fish consumers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FLUOROALKYL compounds , *FRESHWATER fishes , *PREGNANT women , *FISHERY products , *SEAFOOD , *DAIRY products - Abstract
Abstract: Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are globally found in various media, including food and especially fishery products. In the present study, the dietary exposure to 15 perfluoroalkyl acids was assessed for 3 French adult populations, namely high seafood consumers, high freshwater fish consumers, and pregnant women. Purified food extracts were analysed by LC–MS/MS and PFBA, PFPA, PFHxA, PFHpA, PFOA, PFNA, PFDA, PFUnA, PFTrDA, PFTeDA, PFBS, PFHxS, PFHpS, PFOS and PFDS were monitored and quantified according to the isotope dilution principle. Under lower bound (LB) hypothesis (i.e. contamination values

In recent decades, the fish stocks have been increasingly depleted, due mainly to the overfishing and illegal fishing. The perception of excessive fishing capacity led in the early 2000s to a review of the Common Fisheries Policy and the approval of regulations aimed at recovering depleted fish stocks and achieving greater sustainability in the sector. At the same time, the environmental awareness of consumers has grown, resulting in a greater attention towards sustainable products. Despite the new trend in consumption, few scholars have so far focused on consumer habits of sustainable fish products (Kirby and Ward, 2014; Asche et al., 2015; Asche and Bronnmann, 2017). To fill this gap, the aim of this study is to explore the main factors affecting the intention of consumers to choice sustainable fish products.METHODOLOGYTo achieve this purpose, a questionnaire was developed based on previous empirical studies on this topic (Grunert et al., 2011; Panda et al., 2020; Kiluchi-Uehara et al., 2016) and conveyed through the main social networks. The survey was carried out in Italy and Spain, two of the most important EU fish producers countries (EUMOFA, 2020), during the period January-February 2020. At the end of the survey, we obtained 324 complete questionnaires, with reference to the Italian market, and 289 for the Spanish one. The data obtained concerned information on the frequency of fish consumption, quality attributes of the purchased products, the values and beliefs of consumers, as well as their socioeconomic characteristics. Then, we performed two Probit regression models, respectively for the Italian and Spanish samples, in order to identify the main factors affecting the intention of consumers to choose sustainable fish products.RESULTSResults reveal a greater willingness of Italian consumers (82.1% of the respondents) to choose sustainable fish products, than Spanish consumers (69.2%). Furthermore, the research suggests that those who claim to have strong values of environmental protection and those who are sensitive to altruistic values are more likely to choose seafood produced in a sustainable way. Similarly, the importance associated to the presence of eco-labels on purchased fish products affects positively the intention of consumers to make seafood choices more sustainable. With reference to the socio-economic variables, younger consumers show a greater probability to choose sustainable fish products.CONCLUSIONSThe paper presents interesting evidence on the intention of the consumers to commit themselves to make seafood choices more sustainable, showing the main factors affecting this behaviour. Furthermore, the results of the study provide practical implications. On the one hand, the work suggests new insights for entrepreneurs and fish industry operators to define their marketing plans based on the characteristics of consumers. On the other hand, findings provide to policy makers hints for defining awareness campaigns among the population, aimed to increase sustainable purchasing choices by consumers. Despite this, the research is not without limitations, due to the online sampling method, which does not provide a representative sample of the investigated populations. For this reason, future research could extend the investigation to a wider audience and other European countries.
