Abstract

This study evaluated the possibility of producing innovative glass-ceramic foams from zeolite-poor rock (Tokaj, Hungary) using alkali-activation and reactive sintering techniques. The composition and morphology of the samples were studied using X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscope, and computed tomography techniques. The influence of various sintering temperatures on glass-ceramic foams was examined. It has been observed that zeolite-poor rock has a self-foaming capability. The heat treatment temperature affects the pore size and distribution as well as the technical characteristics of the obtained samples. The resulting glass-ceramic foams possess moderate thermal conductivity ranging from 0.11 to 0.17 W mK−1 and good compressive strength (1.5–4.4 MPa). Abstract

Strontium‐modified barium titanate ceramics with the compositional formula Ba1−xSrxTiO3 (barium strontium titanate, BSrxT) with (x = 0, 0.05, 0.125, 0.15, 0.20, and 0.3) have been synthesized through sol‐gel method. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the as‐prepared ceramics, calcined at a relatively low temperature (950 °C/3 h), reveal that BSrxT ceramics possess tetragonal structure in the range of x = 0–20% and shift into a cubic structure at high Sr composition (x = 30%). Based on XRD and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy analysis, the occupation of the Ba and/or Ti sites by strontium in the BaTiO3 system and the behaviors of the crystalline parameters as functions of the Sr content have been discussed. The scanning electron microscopy shows that the grain size and densification sensitively depend on the Sr content. The study of the thermal conductivity measurements performed on the as‐prepared ceramics reveals the influence of Sr content on the thermal conductivity value. However, the microstructure of BSrxT impacts the compressive strength, therefore, the value of the latter is found to be decreased when the grain size increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this research work, monocrystalline Fe-doped GdMnO3 ceramics specimens were prepared through solid-state reaction technique, several characterization methods, for instance, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDX) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) were used to investigate the topographical, structural and magnetic behaviours of the produced samples. All the samples show a single phase which confirmed by XRD and SEM. Magnetic properties of all the prepared samples at the low temperature (10 K) showed antiferromagnetic behaviour with a small difference in magnetization. The slight change in magnetic characteristics could probably occur because of small lattice structural distortion. Fe-doped GdMnO3 could be a material of choice for multiferroic application showing a superior antiferromagnetic property. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of Wenlock-Ludlow boundary sediments in the river Padimeytyvis basin at Chernov uplift using paleontological, lithological and chemostratic methods. The results of paleontological studies allowed attributing to the Wenlock the carbonate stratum of the upper part of the section along the stream Bezymjannyi and establishing Wenlock-Ludlow boundary only in the section of the river Padimeytyvis. The results of studying the isotope δ13Ccarb. in Wenlock-Ludlow boundary sediments are also presented. In the upper part of the section along the stream Bezymyanny a positive C-isotopic shift of the curve which possibly marks the late Wenlock global biotic event of Mulde was observed. Abstract

The efficient nanocomposite of CoFe2O4 diatomite for electromagnetic microwave adsorption was assembled by CoFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) and diatomite via a simple citric acid-nitrate sol-gel auto-combustion method. The electronic microscopy results show that the magnetic CoFe2O4 NPs are uniformly dispersed in the surface and porous structure of diatomite to form stable CoFe2O4/diatomite nanocomposite. The magnetic and dielectric properties with various mass ratios of CoFe2O4 to diatomite was investigated. It was showed that nanocomposite of CoFe2O4/ diatomite has strong superparamagnetic and electromagnetic microwave absorbing properties with optimized conditions of coercive force of 837.07 Oe, the saturation magnetization of 96.5 emu/g, and the remanence ratio (Mr/Ms) of 0.52, respectively. The maximum reflection loss is -12dB, and <-10dB frequency ranges from 10Hz to 12Hz when the ratio of CoFe2O4 to Diatomite is 1:10. The results indicate that CoFe2O4/diatomite composites can be used as the highly efficient microwave absorption materials, which expanded the application field of diatomite-based functional nanomaterials.
