Abstract

The behavior of the nucleon structure functions in lepton nuclei deep inelastic scattering, both polarized and unpolarized, due to nuclear structure effects is reanalyzed. The study is performed in two schemes: an x-rescaling approach, and one in which there is an increase of sea quark components in the in medium nucleon, related to the low energy N-N interaction. In view of a recent interesting experimental proposal to study the behavior of the proton spin structure functions in nuclei we proceed to compare these approaches in an effort to enlighten the possible phenomenological interest of such difficult experiment., Comment: 11 pages and 5 figures

Abstract

We consider an infrared Lorentz violation in connection with recent results of PVLAS experiment. Our analysis is based in a relation that can be established, under certain conditions, between an axial-like-particle theory and electrodynamics with an infrared scale. In the PVLAS case, the conditions imply two dispersion relations such that the infrared scale $|\vec \theta|$, the inverse axion-photon coupling constant $M^{-1}$ and the external magnetic field ${\vec B}$ can be connected through the formula $|{\vec \theta}|= {|\vec B|}/M$. Our analysis, which only requires a non-dynamical (auxiliar) axial-like field leads to $|{\vec\theta}| \leq 5.4 \times 10^{-7}$ meV and $M^{-1} \sim 1.2 \times 10^{-3}$ GeV $^{-1}$., Comment: Revtex, 4pp

Abstract

A model based on the local gauge group SU(3)_c x SU(3)_L x U(1)_X without particles with exotic electric charges is shown to be able to provide the quark mass spectrum and their mixing, by means of universal see-saw mechanisms, avoiding a hierarchy in the Yukawa coupling constants., Comment: 7 pages, 1 eps figure. Abstract

This talk provides a survey of the more recent developments in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) processes in high energy collisions from the stand point of perturbative QCD. We discuss the factorization approach and the energy scale dependence of the relevant functions involved in the description of these processes. The central role played by the so called fracture functions to guarantee the correct cancellation of singularities is discussed in detail. Abstract

Recent data on Drell-Yan processes induced by protons on nuclear targets gives non trivial information about nuclear effects. A very simple model for excess pions in nuclei reproduces the main features of these data, and also of those comming from deep inelastic experiments. This simple scheme gives an unified treatement of nuclear effects highlighting its importance in the deuteron and provides a precise prediction for future p-p and p-d Drell-Yan experiments. Abstract

The spin correlated angular distribution for t+t+ pairs at energies of theZ0 resonance, both decaying semi-leptonically up to 3 hadrons in each final state, was derived assuming general vector and axial vector couplings. The use of these distributions to test the V-A structure of the t-W-vt vertex at LEP energies is analized.
