The loss of a child is one of the most traumatic experiences a person can go through. Parents who have suffered the loss of a child may bring another child into the world after or before completing the grieving process. Children born after the loss are referred to as subsequent children. The reality of loss and the attitudes of the bereaved parent affect the identity and mental state of the child born after loss. This study used the qualitative research method to understand the life experiences of children born after loss in depth. In line with the determined research method, semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with ten participants born after loss. The data obtained in the study were analyzed by thematic analysis. As a result of the thematic analysis, the main themes of "about the lost child", "the effect of being born after loss on life", "being a child born after loss", and "grief" were determined. The main theme "about the lost child" included information about the deceased sibling, objects and photographs, the cause and manner of death, images and fantasies about the sibling, emotions, and contact needs. Under the main theme of "the impact of being born after the loss of life", both the identity and psychological development of individuals, the impact on their career choices and their parents' attitudes were found. Under the main theme, "being a child born after loss", participants talked about being a scapegoat, a comforting child, or a gifted child. In the last main theme, "grief", participants gave information about their parents' grief, their grief, and their experiences of coping with this grief. It has been shown that coming into the world after loss affects individuals' identity, mental state, and choice of profession, and they may face negative parental attitudes. It may be recommended to monitor the grief processes of parents with child loss and to guide the planning of new children.

Background: Due to experiencing traumatic and stressful events, refugees are at risk of having mental disorders. The refugees might need to use psychotropic agents to treat mental disorders. It is essential to understand this population’s adherence rate to psychotropic medication. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate adherence to psychotropic medication and the relationship with psychiatric symptoms among Syrian refugees in Turkey. Method: The study design was descriptive and correlational. The study was conducted with 55 Syrian refugees attending a community health center in southern Turkey. The data was collected with General Medication Adherence Scale–Arabic Version (GMAS–AR) and Brief Psychiatric Inventory (BPI). Results: 78.2% (n: 43) of the participants’ medication adherence was poor, and a significant negative and weak correlation was found at 0.01 level between GMAS–AR and BPI (r: −0.37). According to multiple linear regression analysis, the model with gender and BPI was significant, and this model explained 19% of GMAS–AR total points (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Mental health professionals should test the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions that increase adherence to treatment for the cultural characteristics of societies.

In this study, studies published in Turkey and included in ULAKBIM TR Index and Turkish Psychiatry Index and containing the keyword stigmatization were examined in terms of bibliometrics A total of 143 studies were evaluated within the scope of the study.. It was determined that 80.4% of the studies were research articles and they were frequently made in a descriptive design. It was determined that 65% of the studies were related to the type of public stigma, were frequently conducted in the field of psychiatric nursing, and were most frequently published in the Journal of Psychiatric Nursing. According to the association rule analysis, it was determined that the stigma keyword was used most frequently with mental disorders, internalized stigmatization, individuals with mental disorders, and infectious diseases. Considering that the studies examined are often made in a descriptive design related to mental disorders, it may be recommended to increase the number of experimental studies aiming to combat the stigma of mental disorders.

This study compared internalized stigmatization levels of adolescents diagnosed with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with those of their parents. The study’s data were collected from 107 adolescents diagnosed with ADHD and their parents between July 2020 and March 2021. The adolescents were followed up in the child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic of a university hospital in western Turkey. The information forms for adolescents and parents, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale—Adolescent Form (ISMI-AF) and the Parental Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (PISMI), were used to collect the data. There was no statistically significant difference between the total scores of internalized stigma and subscale mean scores of the adolescents and their parents (p > 0.05); only the subscale scores for stereotype endorsement were found to be significantly different (p < 0.05). PISMI scores affected ISMI-AF scores, which can be interpreted as parents’ perspectives and attitudes toward stigmatization affecting adolescents. For ADHD, whose frequency is increasing daily, intervention studies should be conducted to reduce adolescents’ and parents’ internalized stigma and to enhance the educational outcomes of adolescents.

Aim: This study aimed to conduct an artificial intelligence-based sentiment analysis of Turkish tweets about nursing during the nursing week during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: This is a retrospective descriptive survey. Between May 4 and May 19, 2021, Turkish tweets were analyzed using the Python library Tweepy. The search terms 'nurse, nursing, and nursing week' were used to analyzed tweets for their positivity, neutrality, or negativity. Results: The analysis of 24,944 tweets revealed that tweets frequently express neutral emotions. The negative tweets frequently discussed issues such as societal gender perception, professionalism, burnout during the pandemic, salaries, inadequate nursing workforce, inequalities, violence against healthcare professionals, and the deaths of nurses. Conclusions: Social media applications can be recommended as important tools for raising awareness of the nursing profession identity, professionalism, visibility, and the perception of society towards nursing, nursing problems, and recommendations for solutions.

This study explored the future-oriented perceptions of Generation Z students in a foundation university. This study was conducted using qualitative research and a phenomenological design. The study sample consisted of 11 university students over the age of 18 who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected online through individual interviews in Türkiye. Colaizzi’s phenomenological analysis method was used in the data analysis. The content analysis determined three main themes and eleven sub-themes. The first theme was the students’ knowledge acquisition about the “current situation of the country.” Under this theme were four sub-themes: economic problems, the immigrant situation, the education and justice system, and the country’s agenda. In the second theme, students shared their opinions about “being a student in the country.” This theme included economic impossibilities, their participation in limited social activities, and housing problems. In the last theme, “future anxiety,” the sub-themes of the students were found to include experiences hopelessness versus hope. Uncertainty caused anxiety, as did going abroad, finding a job, and improving themselves. It was determined that the participants were worried about the current situation in the countries they lived in during this period due to economic problems; while some were hopeful about the future, some were hopeless and would go abroad. This study might contribute to the literature on determining the future-oriented perceptions, possible stressors and hope levels of Generation Z university students in Türkiye. Additionally, intervention programs can be developed for the management these stressors to protect the mental health of Generation Z university students. On the other hand, it is necessary to protect the mental health of young people, who are the adults of the future, and to create policies for the youth of this country where social opportunities are maintained.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the effective treatment methods which was used in treatment of childhood and adolescent psychiatry. Although the effects and side effects of ECT intervention in child and adolescent psychiatry is similar adult psychiatry, mental health professionals might be reluctant to prefer ECT in children and adolescents due to limited knowledge and negative attitude to ECT. Because the articles on ECT among child and adolescent with severe mental disorders were limited studies of case reports, it could not reach any article which evaluated ECT holistically, it was thought to discuss ECT intervention, legal issue and nursing care in this issue and this review will contribute to the literature about ECT in children and adolescents.

This qualitative study was carried out with a phenomenological design to determine the life experiences of the parents of children with hearing loss. The study sample consisted of twenty parents, who did not have hearing loss, of children with hearing loss registered in a special education and rehabilitation center. The data were collected through in-depth interviews in Istanbul between December and January 2022. Colaizzi’s phenomenological interpretation method was used for qualitative data analysis. It was determined that parents of children with hearing loss experienced anxiety, sadness, and happiness during diagnosis. They needed more information at first, but then they gained knowledge in the process, and it took work to accept this process. They stated that having a child with hearing loss requires more time, responsibility, and effort than other children. This situation affects their social life, and they experience interpersonal conflicts. When parents were asked how they coped, they said they did it through prayer, social support, or time to themselves. It can be recommended to apply psychosocial intervention programs to the parents of children with hearing loss, especially their mothers, from the first diagnosis process.

The purpose of this review is to review the studies related to psychosocial rehabilitation programs applied by psychiatric nurses to patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. The study was conducted on the Turkish Psychiatric Index (1) and Pubmed (7) databases between 15-31 May 2019 and 8 quantitative studies published between 2008-2019. The 27-item PRISMA Statement was used to evaluate the reporting characteristics. In this review which was written as a result of systematic screening, findings/results of 8 articles were presented as tables. In published studies, psychosocial rehabilitation programs which applied by psychiatric nurses to patients with schizophrenia; it was determined that there were trainings aimed at improving emotional expression, information technology programs including emotional recognition, psychoeducation programs after discharge, Auditory Hallucinatory symptom management program, music therapy and home visits. Also in the studies; with these psychosocial rehabilitation programs, it was determined that patients had many positive effects such as increase in social-cognitive functionality, quality of life and adherence, decrease in hospital stay and relapse, coping with Auditory Hallucinations, and improvement in emotional recognition. In the studies, it was found that there are limited number of studies conducted by psychiatric nurses in the psychosocial rehabilitation of the patient with schizophrenia and it is necessary to evaluate the results of the interventions performed by psychiatric nurses in this field.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study, individuals who have been treated at a university hospital of AMATEM service in the years 2014-2018 was conducted to examine the requested consultations. METHODS: The study was designed as a retrospective cohort. In 2014-2018, the records of the patients (n=1392) who were asked to be consulted among the patients (n=614) hospitalized in the AMATEM ward of a university hospital psychiatry clinic were formed. In this study, sociodemographic characteristics and consultation requests of the individuals were evaluated with 12 open and closed ended questions. In the analysis of the data, number-percentage distributions, mean and standard deviation were used. RESULTS: Individuals who were treated in alcohol and substance addiction treatment clinics, 63.7% uses alcohol, 12.7% uses multiple substance and the average age was 40.87 +- 13.85. It was determined that addictive individuals were asked to be consulted on average 1.49 +- 0.70 times and 41.4% for internal medicine, 22.9% for dentist, 18.1% for dermatology and 13.6% for neurological consultation. The most frequently reported consultation reasons were Caries (22.8%), skin rash (16.0%), infection (13.5%), liver function test (12.2%), asthma-COPD (10.7%), hypertension (7.2%) and neuropathy (6.5%). At least one drug was prescribed to 57.0% of the patients after consultation. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The holistic assessment and monitoring of physical and mental comorbidity in patients with substance use disorder is extremely important for the recovery and maintenance of health. INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to compare the internalized stigmatization scores of adolescents and their parents who were followed in the child and adolescent psychiatry clinic. METHODS: This study was consisted by 60 adolescents and 60 parents of children and adolescent who were followed in the child and adolescent psychiatry clinic between January and May 2019. Data were collected by using the information form, Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (ISMI) and Parents Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (PISMI). In the analysis of the data, number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis Test and Cronbach Alpha Coefficient were used in SPSS 25.0 program. RESULTS: The median age of adolescents and their parents were 14.53+-1,79 and 40,9+-5,8 respectively. 66.7% of the parents were married, 83.3% were female and 35% were primary school graduates. 55% of adolescents were male and 63.3% were in middle school. 35% of the adolescents were diagnosed as conduct disorder, 28.3% were diagnosed with Attention Deficiency Hyperactivity Disorder and 22% were diagnosed with mood disorders. There was no significant difference between ISMI and PISMI total score and subscale scores among adolescents and parents participating in the study (p>0.05). INTRODUCTION: This study was conducted in order to determine the opinions of senior students of the nursing department of a vocational health high school in İzmir about the profession of nursing. METHODS: Research data were collected from three vocational and technical anatolian high schools in İzmir from 20 March to 10 April 2016. In total, 246 senior students took part in the research. In the collection of the data, the questionnaire form which consists of 32 questions concerning the socio-demographic features of the students and their opinions about the profession of nursing and were developed by the researchers. RESULTS: It was determined that 66.4% of the students participating in the research chose the vocational health high school intentionally. When the reasons of the students to choose the school were examined, it was seen that 45.3% of them chose for employment opportunities, 9.3 % of them chose since it was in the health sector, 7.3% of them chose because of the score suitability, 7.7% of them chose since they are fond of helping people, 6.5% of them chose due to the suggestions of the people around and 6.1% of them chose by considering it to be open to development. It was determined that 38.9% of the students did not want to pursue the profession of nursing, 34.8% of them were hesitant and 42.9% of them were reluctant to continue with the undergraduate education. When whether or not the students love the profession was examined, it was determined that 49% of them love the profession, 17% of them do not love the profession and 34% of them are hesitant. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: As a result, it was determined that the students who love nursing have more positive thoughts about the nursing, they found nursing more professional, and they have future plans for education and working.
