Abstract Tandem repeats (TRs) are genomic regions that tandemly change in repeat number, which are often multiallelic. Their characteristics and contributions to gene expression and quantitative traits in rice are largely unknown. Here, we survey rice TR variations based on 231 genome assemblies and the rice pan-genome graph. We identify 227,391 multiallelic TR loci, including 54,416 TR variations that are absent from the Nipponbare reference genome. Only 1/3 TR variations show strong linkage with nearby bi-allelic variants (SNPs, Indels and PAVs). Using 193 panicle and 202 leaf transcriptomic data, we reveal 485 and 511 TRs act as QTLs independently of other bi-allelic variations to nearby gene expression, respectively. Using plant height and grain width as examples, we identify and validate TRs contributions to rice agronomic trait variations. These findings would enhance our understanding of the functions of multiallelic variants and facilitate rice molecular breeding.

4. Phenotypic characteristics and rehabilitation effect of children with regressive autism spectrum disorder: a prospective cohort study

Abstract Background In this prospective cohort study, we determined the phenotypic characteristics of children with regressive autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and explored the effects of rehabilitation. Methods We recruited 370 children with ASD aged 1.5–7 years. Based on the Regression Supplement Form, the children were assigned to two groups: regressive and non-regressive. The core symptoms and neurodevelopmental levels of ASD were assessed before and after 1 year of behavioral intervention using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), Social Response Scale (SRS), Children Autism Rating Scale (CARS), and Gesell Developmental Scale (GDS). Results Among the 370 children with ASD, 28.38% (105/370) experienced regression. Regression was primarily observed in social communication and language skills. Children with regressive ASD exhibited higher SRS and CARS scores and lower GDS scores than those with non-regressive ASD. After 1 year of behavioral intervention, the symptom scale scores significantly decreased for all children with ASD; however, a lesser degree of improvement was observed in children with regressive ASD than in those with non-regressive ASD. In addition, the symptom scores of children with regressive ASD below 4 years old significantly decreased, whereas the scores of those over 4 years old did not significantly improve. Children with regressive ASD showed higher core symptom scores and lower neurodevelopmental levels. Nevertheless, after behavioral intervention, some symptoms exhibited significant improvements in children with regressive ASD under 4 years of age. Conclusion Early intervention should be considered for children with ASD, particularly for those with regressive ASD.

Abstract High workload-induced cellular stress can cause pancreatic islet β cell death and dysfunction, or β cell failure, a hallmark of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Thus, activation of molecular chaperones and other stress-response genes prevents β cell failure. To this end, we have shown that deletion of the glucose-regulated protein 94 (GRP94) in Pdx1+ pancreatic progenitor cells led to pancreas hypoplasia and reduced β cell mass during pancreas development in mice. Here, we show that GRP94 was involved in β cell adaption and compensation (or failure) in islets from leptin receptor-deficient (db/db) mice in an age-dependent manner. GRP94-deficient cells were more susceptible to cell death induced by various diabetogenic stress conditions. We also identified a new client of GRP94, insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), a critical factor for β cell survival and function that may mediate the effect of GRP94 in the pathogenesis of diabetes. This study has identified essential functions of GRP94 in β cell failure related to diabetes.

6. NH2-MXene/OXG nanocomposite hydrogel with efficient photothermal antibacterial activity for potentially removing biofilms

The adhesion of bacteria to the surface leads to formation of biofilms causing numerous infection problems in implanting medical devices or interventional therapy. Traditional treatment for such problems is generally to administrate patients with antibiotics or antifungal agent. Alternatively, devices are taken out of the body to mechanically destroy the biofilm and re-used by surgery. In this study, a straightforward method was developed to remove biofilms using a MXene-based photothermal hydrogel. The hydrogel consists of dynamic crosslinking network formed by Schiff-base reaction between aldehyde-containing xyloglucan (OXG) and amine-containing MXene (NH2-MXene), which showed efficient killing of both gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria upon near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation. The NH2-MXene/OXG nanocomposite hydrogel showed a high photothermal antibacterial efficiency and stable photothermal conversion, demonstrated by efficient removal of biofilms ex vivo.

7. Public health impacts of air pollution from the spatiotemporal heterogeneity perspective: 31 provinces and municipalities in China from 2013 to 2020

Air pollution has long been a significant environmental health issue. Previous studies have employed diverse methodologies to investigate the impacts of air pollution on public health, yet few have thoroughly examined its spatiotemporal heterogeneity. Based on this, this study investigated the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of the impacts of air pollution on public health in 31 provinces in China from 2013 to 2020 based on the theoretical framework of multifactorial health decision-making and combined with the spatial durbin model and the geographically and temporally weighted regression model. The findings indicate that: (1) Air pollution and public health as measured by the incidence of respiratory diseases (IRD) in China exhibit significant spatial positive correlation and local spatial aggregation. (2) Air pollution demonstrates noteworthy spatial spillover effects. After controlling for economic development and living environment factors, including disposable income, population density, and urbanization rate, the direct and indirect spatial impacts of air pollution on IRD are measured at 3.552 and 2.848, correspondingly. (3) China’s IRD is primarily influenced by various factors such as air pollution, economic development, living conditions, and healthcare, and the degree of its influence demonstrates an uneven spatiotemporal distribution trend. The findings of this study hold considerable practical significance for mitigating air pollution and safeguarding public health.

8. Antibiotic-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions: a single-center retrospective study over ten years

ObjectiveSevere cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) are rare but life-threatening, with antibiotics being the main cause. This retrospective study from a single center was designed to analyze the culprit drugs, clinical features and treatment outcomes of antibiotic-induced SCARs.MethodsWe analyzed cases of antibiotic-induced SCARs in a tertiary hospital in China between January 2013 and January 2024, including Steven-Johnson syndrome (SJS) or Stevens-Johnson syndrome-toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS-TEN) overlap, toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). Descriptive analysis of the demographic characteristics, clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis were carried out.ResultsAmong 354 cases of SCARs, 63 validated antibiotic-related cases were included. Cephalosporins (31.7%), penicillins (25.4%), and quinolones (19.0%) were the most common triggers for SCARs. Overall, liver (50.8%), lungs (31.7%), and kidneys (23.8%) were the most frequently affected organ in SCARs cases. Eight patients (28.6%) in the SJS/SJS-TEN overlap group and 8 patients (80.0%) in the TEN group received combination therapy of corticosteroids and IVIG. Patients with SCARs caused by penicillins or cephalosporins could receive alternative treatments such as lincomamides, quinolones, and tetracyclines. The mortality rate in the TEN group was the highest at 20.0%, followed by the SJS/SJS-TEN overlap group (7.1%), and no deaths were observed in the DRESS and AGEP groups.ConclusionThe identification of the culprit antibiotics and the application of alternative antibiotic therapies are crucial for the management of antibiotic-induced SCARs. If complicated underlying conditions and complications like advanced age, cancer and pneumonia coexist with SCARs, patients might be more at risk for mortality.

Various factors can cause skin defects, resulting in the loss of physiological functions and even death due to severe concurrent infection. Dressings are often clinically used to fully cover the wounds to improve healing. Hydrogel wound dressings can be loaded with therapeutic compounds (e.g., curcumin) within their three-dimensional networks to enable the in situ delivery of compounds at skin defects for wound healing. In recent decades, natural herbal active components have gradually gained worldwide recognition owing to their safe and diverse therapeutic effects, and an increasing number of bioactive components can be loaded into hydrogels or directly act as hydrogel matrices to enhance safety and achieve the desired therapeutic effects. In this review, twelve bioactive compounds from natural Chinese herbs that can promote wound healing and their mechanism of action are summarized, and the latest research progress in the use of Chinese herbal hydrogels for wound treatment is reviewed.

11. The effect of working memory training on test anxiety symptoms and attentional control in adolescents

Abstract Objective The percentage of adolescents with test anxiety is increasing rapidly. Working memory (WM) training has been demonstrated to reduce anxiety levels and enhance attentional control in individuals. Therefore, we investigated whether adaptive dual n-back WM training could lower test anxiety level and improve attentional control in adolescents. Methods Forty adolescents were allocated to either adaptive dual n-back WM training (n = 21) or non-adaptive dual 1-back WM training (n = 19) for 10 days. The Test Anxiety Scale was applied to measure individuals’ test anxiety symptoms. The Attentional Control Scale (ACS), the flanker task, and the Go/Nogo task were used to measure attentional control. Results Compared with the control group, the training group reported significantly relief of test anxiety symptoms; however, there were no significant differences between the two groups in pre-to-post changes in ACS scores or performance on the flanker task and Go/Nogo task. Conclusion In sum, adaptive dual n-back WM training effectively reduced adolescents’ level of test anxiety but did not improve their attentional control.

Abstract Objective To develop a Risk Assessment Tool for Cancer-related Venous Thrombosis in China. Methods A modified two-round Delphi method was employed to establish consensus within a field to reach an agreement via a questionnaire or by interviewing a multidisciplinary panel of experts by collecting their feedback to inform the next round, exchanging their knowledge, experience, and opinions anonymously, and resolving uncertainties. Furthermore, The AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) was used to determine the final quality indicators’ relative importance. Results The expert’s positive coefficient was 85.19% in the first round and 82.61% in the second round, with authoritative coefficients of 0.89 and 0.92 in the respective surveys. The P-value of Kendall’s W test was all less than 0.001 for each round, and the W-value for concordance at the end of the two rounds was 0.115. The final Risk Assessment Tool for Cancer-related Venous Thrombosis consisted of three domains, ten subdomains, and 39 indicators, with patient factors weighing 0.1976, disease factors weighing 0.4905, and therapeutic factors weighing 0.3119. Conclusion The tool is significantly valid and reliable with a strong authority and coordination degree, and it can be used to assess the risk of cancer-related VTE and initiate appropriate thrombophylactic interventions in China.

13. Examining attentional control deficits in adolescents with test anxiety: An evidential synthesis using self-report, behavioral, and resting-state EEG measures

Attentional control theory suggests that test anxiety hinders individuals' attentional control, aiding our understanding of how test anxiety may impair cognitive function. However, various methods used to assess attentional control have yielded inconsistent findings. Moreover, past studies, especially on adolescents, that examine the distinct impacts of worry and the emotional components of test anxiety on individuals' attentional control capacity are scarce. This study, using self-report, behavioral, and resting-state EEG measures, explores how worry and emotionality, impact attentional control in adolescents. It enhances our understanding of the link between test anxiety and cognitive function. Referring to the effect size from prior studies, a total of 42 adolescents took part in the study. We used the Test Anxiety Inventory, due to it can assess worry and emotionality components. We employed three widely-utilized measures of attentional control: the Attentional Control Scale (ACS), the Go/Nogo task, and resting-state electroencephalography measures (alpha oscillation and the theta/beta power ratio). Both worry and emotionality components were significantly and negatively correlated with the ACS scores. Unlike worry, emotionality demonstrated a significant positive correlation with response times for the Go trials and alpha power in the parietal cortex. These results suggest that, emotionality, but not worry, is highly correlated with attentional control deficits in adolescents. This study underscores the significance of distinguishing between the components of test anxiety, which aids in comprehending the negative impacts of test anxiety on adolescents' academic performance.

14. Case report: Rare floating gallbladder torsion in a child

Gallbladder Torsion (GT) refers to serious biliary emergencies caused by the torsion of the gallbladder on its mesentery along the axis of the cystic duct and cystic artery. It is very rare, especially in children. The clinical data of a child with floating gallbladder torsion who was treated in our hospital on March 14, 2024, were analyzed. A 6-year-old girl presented with abdominal pain and vomiting. Physical examination showed a mass in the right middle abdomen. Laboratory tests showed normal liver biochemical function and white blood cells. The benign lesion was considered by color Doppler ultrasound and CT, and the floating torsion of the gallbladder was diagnosed by MRCP and laparoscopic exploration. The child was treated with laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and recovered well after the operation.

15. How digital inclusive finance promotes social entrepreneurship: Evidence from 282 cities in China

Social entrepreneurship (SE) plays a positive role in addressing a range of social issues, and thus it is essential to study how to promote SE. Using panel data from 282 Chinese cities from 2011 to 2021, this study explores the mechanism through which digital inclusive finance affects SE. The results indicate that digital inclusive finance has a positive impact on SE, which still holds after considering endogeneity and undergoing a series of robustness tests. In addition, mechanism analysis shows that digital inclusive finance affects SE by alleviating financing constraints and promoting common prosperity. Furthermore, the effect of digital inclusive finance is stronger in cities with a strong Buddhist culture and more judicially civilized. Policy recommendations are also proposed.

16. Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Augmentation Therapy in Chronic Pancreatitis Patients Undergoing Total Pancreatectomy and Islet Autotransplantation: A Randomized, Controlled Study

Stress-induced islet graft loss during the peri-transplantation period reduces the efficacy of islet transplantation. In this prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of 60 mg/kg human alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) or placebo infusion weekly for four doses beginning before surgery in chronic pancreatitis (CP) patients undergoing total pancreatectomy and islet autotransplantation (TP-IAT). Subjects were followed for 12 months post-TP-IAT. The dose of AAT was safe, as there was no difference in the types and severity of adverse events in participants from both groups. There were some biochemical signals of treatment effect with a higher oxygen consumption rate in AAT islets before transplantation and a lower serum C-peptide (an indicator of islet death) in the AAT group at 15 min after islet infusion. Findings per the statistical analysis plan using a modified intention to treat analysis showed no difference in the C-peptide area under the curve (AUC) following a mixed meal tolerance test at 12 months post-TP-IAT. There was no difference in the secondary and exploratory outcomes. Although AAT therapy did not show improvement in C-peptide AUC in this study, AAT therapy is safe in CP patients and there are experiences gained on optimal clinical trial design in this challenging disease.

17. Investigating the pathogens associated with Dermacentor nuttalli and its global distribution: A study integrating metagenomic sequencing, meta-analysis and niche modeling

Dermacentor nuttalli, a member of family Ixodidae and genus Dermacentor, is predominantly found in North Asia. It transmits various pathogens of human and animal diseases, such as Lymphocytic choriomeningitis mammarenavirus and Brucella ovis, leading to severe symptoms in patients and posing serious hazards to livestock husbandry. To profile pathogen abundances of wild D. nuttalli, metagenomic sequencing was performed of four field-collected tick samples, revealing that Rickettsia, Streptomyces, and Pseudomonas were the most abundant bacterial genera in D. nuttalli. Specifically, four nearly complete Rickettsia genomes were assembled, closely relative to Rickettsia conorii subsp. raoultii. Then, a comprehensive meta-analysis was performed to evaluate its potential threats based on detected pathogens and geographical distribution positions reported in literature, reference books, related websites, and field surveys. At least 48 pathogens were identified, including 20 species of bacteria, seven species of eukaryota, and 21 species of virus. Notably, Rickettsia conorii subsp. raoultii, Coxiella burnetii, and Brucella ovis displayed remarkably high positivity rates, which were known to cause infectious diseases in both humans and livestock. Currently, the primary distribution of D. nuttalli spans China, Mongolia, and Russia. However, an additional 14 countries in Asia and America that may also be affected by D. nuttalli were identified in our niche model, despite no previous reports of its presence in these areas. This study provides comprehensive data and analysis on the pathogens carried by D. nuttalli, along with documented and potential distribution, suggesting an emerging threat to public health and animal husbandry. Therefore, there is a need for heightened surveillance and thorough investigation of D. nuttalli.

Timely identification of the overall cathodic protection status of the gas pipeline is very important for improving the safety of the gas pipeline and other public infrastructure. In this paper, an accurate and convenient method for evaluating the integral cathodic protection of the pipeline section, the protection current method, was proposed. This method could identify the overall cathodic protection status of the gas pipeline. In the soil environment of Beijing, various pipelines with different orders of magnitudes of electrical resistivity anticorrosive coating were selected for the feeding experiments. The protection current density required for the pipeline to reach the critical effective cathodic protection was clarified [the most positive polarization potential of the pipeline section was -0.85 V (vs CSE)]. Combined with field tests and numerical simulations, the influence law of anode pipe spacing on protection current demand value was analyzed and obtained.

Abstract Aqueous copper-based batteries have many favourable properties and have thus attracted considerable attention, but their application is limited by their low operating voltage originating from the high potential of copper negative electrode (0.34 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode). Herein, we propose a coordination strategy for reducing the intrinsic negative electrode redox potential in aqueous copper-based batteries and thus improving their operating voltage. This is achieved by establishing an appropriate coordination environment through the electrolyte tailoring via Cl− ions. When coordinated with chlorine, the intermediate Cu+ ions in aqueous electrolytes are successfully stabilized and the electrochemical process is decoupled into two separate redox reactions involving Cu2+/Cu+ and Cu+/Cu0; Cu+/Cu0 results in a redox potential approximately 0.3 V lower than that for Cu2+/Cu0. Compared to the coordination with water, the coordination with chlorine also results in higher copper utilization, more rapid redox kinetics, and superior cycle stability. An aqueous copper-chlorine battery, harnessing Cl−/Cl0 redox reaction at the positive electrode, is discovered to have a high discharge voltage of 1.3 V, and retains 77.4% of initial capacity after 10,000 cycles. This work may open up an avenue to boosting the voltage and energy of aqueous copper batteries.

Heterotrophic nitrification-aerobic denitrification (HN-AD) bacteria are the key functional microorganisms needed to achieve simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND). In this study, 25 strains of HN-AD bacteria were successfully isolated from a stable landfill leachate biochemical treatment system, of which 10 strains belonged to Firmicutes and 15 strains belonged to Proteobacteria. Bacillus subtilis F4 and Alcaligenes faecalis P4 displayed good tolerance at a wide range of ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) concentrations. When the C/N ratio was 20, the removal rates of ammonia nitrogen were 90.1% and 89.5%, and the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rates were 92.4% and 93.9%, respectively. The napA gene encoding periplasmic nitrate reductase (Nap) and the nirS gene encoding nitrite reductase (Nir) were detected, and nitrogen balance showed assimilation and HN-AD was the main nitrogen metabolism mode in both strains. The use of immobilization materials could increase removal rate of ammonia nitrogen by 21.1% and 29.6%, respectively. The research results of this work can provide theoretical basis and technical support for the practical application of HN-AD bacteria to enhance the treatment of high ammonia nitrogen wastewater with high efficiency and low consumption.

21. The cost of 'snubbing': the effect of parental phubbing on filial piety behavior in children and adolescents

BackgroundAlthough numerous studies have used Chinese samples to examine the consequences of parental phubbing, these studies focused on children’s mental health and peer interaction. No research to date has directly explored the association between parental phubbing and child–parent interaction. Since parental phubbing is a way how parents interact with their children (parent–child), it might be associated with the way how children interact with their parents (child–parent), such as filial piety behavior, which prescribes how children behave toward their parents and remains one of the goals of parents in educating their children in modern Chinese society. Based on social exchange theory and social gender theory, this study investigated the impact of parental phubbing on filial piety behavior and tested its mediation of perceived parental rejection, its moderation of gender among children and adolescents.MethodsThis study was conducted using a questionnaire method. A total of 753 students from Grade 4 to 9 (Mage = 12.28 years, SD = 1.81 years) was surveyed using the Parental Phubbing Scale, Perceived Parental Rejection Questionnaire, and the revised Dual Filial Piety Scale.ResultsFirst, parental phubbing was negatively correlated with reciprocal filial piety (RFP) behavior, but not correlated with authoritarian filial piety (AFP) behavior. Second, perceived parental rejection played a mediating role between parental phubbing and RFP behavior. Third, this direct effect was moderated by gender, in that it was stronger for boys than for girls.ConclusionThese findings suggest that there are intergenerational costs of phubbing, such as reducing children and adolescents’ RFP behavior. The present study is the first to combine parent–child interaction in the digital media era (parental phubbing) with traditional Chinese child–parent interaction (RFP behavior), which expands the research topic on the influence of parental phubbing on children and adolescents’ psychological development.

BackgroundThe prognosis of anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 positive dermatomyositis (anti-MDA5+DM) is poor and heterogeneous. Rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) is these patients’ leading cause of death. We sought to develop prediction models for RP-ILD risk in anti-MDA5+DM patients.MethodsPatients with anti-MDA5+DM were enrolled in two cohorts: 170 patients from the southern region of Jiangsu province (discovery cohort) and 85 patients from the northern region of Jiangsu province (validation cohort). Cox proportional hazards models were used to identify risk factors of RP-ILD. RP-ILD risk prediction models were developed and validated by testing every independent prognostic risk factor derived from the Cox model.ResultsThere are no significant differences in baseline clinical parameters and prognosis between discovery and validation cohorts. Among all 255 anti-MDA5+DM patients, with a median follow-up of 12 months, the incidence of RP-ILD was 36.86%. Using the discovery cohort, four variables were included in the final risk prediction model for RP-ILD: C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, anti-Ro52 antibody positivity, short disease duration, and male sex. A point scoring system was used to classify anti-MDA5+DM patients into moderate, high, and very high risk of RP-ILD. After one-year follow-up, the incidence of RP-ILD in the very high risk group was 71.3% and 85.71%, significantly higher than those in the high-risk group (35.19%, 41.69%) and moderate-risk group (9.54%, 6.67%) in both cohorts.ConclusionsThe CROSS model is an easy-to-use prediction classification system for RP-ILD risk in anti-MDA5+DM patients. It has great application prospect in disease management.

Data anomaly detection in small hydropower stations is an important research area because it positively affects the reliability of optimal scheduling and subsequent analytical studies of small hydropower station clusters. Although many anomaly detection algorithms have been introduced in the data preprocessing stage in various research areas, there is still little research on effective and highly reliable anomaly detection systems for practical applications in small hydropower stations. Therefore, this paper proposes a real-time data anomaly detection system for small hydropower clusters (RDADS-SHC) considering multiple time series. It addresses the difficulties of timely detection, alerting, and management of real-time data anomalies (errors, omissions, and so on) in existing small hydropower stations. It proposes a real-time data anomaly detection algorithm for small hydropower stations integrated with the Z-score and dynamic time warping, which can detect and process abnormal information more accurately and efficiently, thereby improving the stability and reliability of data sampling. The paper proposes a Keepalived-based hot-standby RDADS-SHC deployment model with m (m ≥ 2) units. It can automatically remove and restart faulty services and switch to their standbys, which significantly improve the reliability of the proposed system, ensuring the safe and stable operation of related functional services. This paper can detect anomalous data more accurately, and the system is more stable and reliable in a cluster detection environment. The actual operation has shown that compared with existing anomaly detection systems, the architecture and algorithms proposed in this paper can detect anomalous data more accurately, and the system is more stable and reliable in the small hydropower cluster detection environment. It solves abnormal data management in small hydropower stations and provides reliable support for subsequent analysis and decision-making.

The construction of an integrated national strategic system and capability is an essential goal of implementing the strategy of military-civilian integration in the contemporary era. And the collaborative innovation of military-civilian S&T is an inevitable choice to achieve this goal. Due to the dynamic, complex, and stochastic characteristics of military-civilian S&T collaborative innovation, the level of S&T innovation is highly volatile. This paper takes the internal and external stochastic disturbance factors of military-civilian S&T collaborative innovation as the perspective, studies the strategy selection problem of military-civilian S&T collaborative innovation under military domination, constructs a differential game model to explore the innovation strategies under the non-cooperative model without military subsidies, the non-cooperative model with military subsidies, and the collaborative model. Finally, we use numerical experiments to verify the validity of the conclusions. The study shows that: (1) Within a reasonable range of values of the benefit distribution coefficient, the system can achieve the Pareto optimum, and the collaborative model is conducive to improving the S&T innovation level and the optimum benefit level of the system. (2) Military subsidies can increase the benefits of the system and the parties involved to achieve Pareto improvement. (3) The level of S&T innovation under the collaborative model has dynamic evolutionary characteristics of maximum expectation and variance. As the intensity of disturbance increases, the stability of the system may be destroyed. Risk-averse civil enterprises prefer the cooperative mode, whereas risk-averse civil enterprises prefer the non-cooperative model.

This study proposes a method for personalized daily hand exercise training to address the lack of personalization in rehabilitation training and its disconnect from daily life. This research aims to evaluate the impact of Happiness Memory Therapy on patients’ hand function through gamified daily life training. The methodology integrates Happiness Memory Therapy and Positive Mirror Theory to assist in life game design. Patient interviews and empathy are used to gather life experiences, interests, hobbies, and challenges, which are then incorporated into personalized rehabilitation training. The experimental process includes pre- and post-intervention tests to assess changes in subjective well-being (SWLS), happiness (SHS), positive and negative emotions (PANAS), psychological well-being (PWB), and hand function impairment (DASH). The results show that the intervention significantly enhances patients’ subjective well-being, happiness, positive emotions, and reduces negative emotions and hand function impairments. In conclusion, Happiness Memory Therapy and Positive Mirror Theory are effective in developing personalized daily hand exercise training methods and have a significant impact on improving the psychological health and quality of life of stroke patients, offering new ideas and methods for personalized rehabilitation training.

In this work, the effect of directional solidification methods on solid solution windows in two Ni-based single-crystal superalloys is investigated. The sample prepared using the liquid metal cooling (LMC) method was found to contain smaller dendrite spacing, lower dendrite segregation and eutectic, and a smaller size of γ′ phase than that of the high-speed rapid solidification (HRS) method. The alloy-2 contained higher Cr, Co and lowered Re exhibited similar dendrite spacing and volume fraction of eutectic, and the lower dendrite segregation and smaller size of γ′ phase than that of the other alloy-1. The solution treatment window is broadened by adopting the LMC method or changing the composition to alloy-2. This is mainly realized by decreasing the lower limit temperature, and the upper limit temperature remains unchanged. According to the eutectic only contains the melt temperature, a similar eutectic is responsible for the unchanged upper limit temperature. At this state, the lower bound of the temperature is the dissolution of the γʹ phase in the dendrite core. The smaller size of γ′ phase and the elements' partition ratio are responsible for the change in the solid solution window.

Abstract Background The IQ-SPECT system is equipped with multifocal collimators and uses ordered-subset conjugate gradient minimization (OSCGM) as its reconstruction algorithm, achieving a shorter acquisition time than conventional SPECT. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is overestimated by conventional SPECT in patients with small heart size. In this study, we compared IQ-SPECT with conventional SPECT and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) for the estimation of LVEF in patients with small hearts (males: EDV ≤ 60 ml, ESV ≤ 25 ml; females: EDV ≤ 45 ml, ESV ≤ 20 ml). Methods The study consisted of 49 consecutive patients (20 normal and 29 with small heart size) undergoing gated myocardial perfusion imaging (GMPI) with a 99mTc-labelled agent during stress or rest to assess the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). The data were reconstructed using filtered back-projection (FBP) for conventional SPECT and OSCGM for IQ-SPECT. ESV, EDV, and LVEF were calculated using quantitative gated SPECT (QGS). To determine the optimal ordered-subset reconstruction parameters, we compared the LVEF from SPECT to the corresponding measurement from CMR. Results EDV, ESV, and LVEF values obtained from IQ-SPECT and conventional SPECT showed that the results of these two forms of SPECT were significantly correlated, although the EDV and ESV obtained by IQ-SPECT were higher than those obtained by conventional SPECT. IQ-SPECT yielded lower LVEF measurements than conventional SPECT (normal heart size: 50.6 ± 4.3% vs. 73.4 ± 8.4%, P = 0.002; small heart size: 62.1 ± 7.8% vs. 75.0 ± 11.4%, P 0.05; small heart size: 62.1 ± 7.8% vs. 64.6 ± 8.8%, P > 0.05). Five subsets (S) and 12 iterations (I) did not differ significantly in LVEF between CMR and IQ-SPECT for patients with small hearts (64.6 ± 8.8% vs. 62.1 ± 7.8%, P = 0.120), while 3 S and 10 I were the best parameters for patients with normal heart size (50.6 ± 4.3% vs. 53.1 ± 5.8%, P = 0.117). Conclusion With CMR as the standard, IQ-SPECT yields more reliable LVEF values than conventional SPECT for populations with small heart size. The best reconstruction parameters from IQ-SPECT were 5 S and 12 I for patients with small hearts.

28. Dexmedetomidine alleviates ferroptosis following hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury by upregulating Nrf2/GPx4-dependent antioxidant responses

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI) adversely affects liver transplant and resection outcomes. Recently, ferroptosis has been associated with HIRI. Dexmedetomidine (Dex), a potent sedative with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptotic properties, protects organs from hypoxic or ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injuries. However, the mechanisms underlying this protective effect against I/R-induced liver injury remain unclear. This study evaluated the effect of Dex on HIRI in mouse models and the oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) AML12 cell model. We examined ferroptosis-related markers, including Fe2+ levels, reactive oxygen species (ROS) content, mitochondrial morphology, GPX4 protein expression, 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), and Nrf2. The Nrf2 inhibitor ML385 was used in combination with Dex to treat HIRI mice and OGD/R-induced cellular models to explore the pathways by which Dex counteracts ferroptosis. Our results showed that Dex treatment significantly ameliorated OGD/R-induced ferroptosis in AML12 cells, including reduced Fe2+, ROS, malondialdehyde (MDA), and 4-HNE levels. Dex also ameliorated liver tissue damage and reduced serum AST, ALT, and inflammatory factor levels in HIRI mice. Additionally, Dex increased the levels of GSH, an antioxidative stress marker, and GPX4 expression in HIRI mice. Mechanistically, Nrf2 expression and nuclear translocation were significantly inhibited in both HIRI mice and OGD/R-treated AML12 cells. Dex treatment also restored the I/R-induced inhibition of Nrf2 expression and nuclear translocation. ML385 significantly inhibited Dex-promoted Nrf2 nuclear aggregation with Gpx4 protein expression, hindering the efficacy of Dex. In conclusion, Dex ameliorates ferroptosis in HIRI by positively regulating the Nrf2/GPx4 axis, potentially presenting a therapeutic avenue for addressing HIRI.

29. Amelioration of hyperuricemia by Lactobacillus acidophilus F02 with uric acid-lowering ability via modulation of NLRP3 inflammasome and gut microbiota homeostasis

Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disease caused by disturbances in purine metabolism and imbalances in the formation and excretion of uric acid. It is closely related to the gut microbiota, which is considered a therapeutic target. Some lactic acid bacteria with a uric acid lowering effect have the potential to ameliorate hyperuricemia in the host. However, the mechanism of action remains unclear. Here, we screened a strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus F02 that efficiently degrades uric acid precursors (inosine and guanosine) and further investigated its underlying mechanism on the alleviation of hyperuricemia in high fructose-adenine induced mice. Results showed that L. acidophilus F02 administration reduced serum uric acid levels in hyperuricemia mice by inhibiting xanthine oxidase and adenosine deaminase activity, while protecting hepatorenal injury and systemic inflammation by regulating the relative expression of NLRP3 inflammasome. Most importantly, it restored gut microbial homeostasis and the abundance of bacterial taxa (i.e., a balance in the relative abundance of Firmicutes and Actinobacteria and an increase in the abundance of Bacteroides, Ruminococcus and Lactobacillus). Furthermore, the ability of L. acidophilus F02 to lower uric acid and suppress NLRP3 inflammasome expression was confirmed in the HK-2 cell model, as well as the multiple immunomodulatory effects on RAW264.7 cells. Taken together, we speculate that fructose-adenine induced hyperuricemia triggers hepatorenal injury and gut microbiota dysbiosis, which is ameliorated by L. acidophilus F02. Collectively, the results suggest that lowering uric acid synthesis, increasing uric acid excretion and reducing NLRP3-related IL-1β levels are effective strategies to ameliorate hyperuricemia. Such information could inform future studies on the ecology of L. acidophilus and guide the use of this species for dietary applications in the food industry.

Precise diagnosis and treatment of tumors currently still face considerable challenges due to the development of highly degreed heterogeneity in the dynamic evolution of tumors. With the rapid development of genomics, personalized diagnosis and treatment using specific genes may be a robust strategy to break through the bottleneck of traditional tumor treatment. Nevertheless, efficient in vivo gene delivery has been frequently hampered by the inherent defects of vectors and various biological barriers. Encouragingly, spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) with good modularity and programmability are excellent candidates capable of addressing traditional gene transfer-associated issues, which enables SNAs a precision nanoplatform with great potential for diverse biomedical applications. In this regard, there have been detailed reviews of SNA in drug delivery, gene regulation, and dermatology treatment. Still, to the best of our knowledge, there is no published systematic review summarizing the use of SNAs in oncology precision medicine and immunotherapy, which are considered new guidelines for oncology treatment. To this end, we summarized the notable advances in SNAs-based precision therapy and immunotherapy for tumors following a classification standard of different types of precise spatiotemporal control on active species by SNAs. Specifically, we focus on the structural diversity and programmability of SNAs. Finally, the challenges and possible solutions were discussed in the concluding remarks. This review will promote the rational design and development of SNAs for tumor-precise medicine and immunotherapy.

Objective To systematically evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma combined with negative pressure wound therapy on chronic refractory wounds, and to provide reference for clinical treatment. Methods Randomized controlled trials of autologous platelet-rich plasma combined with negative pressure wound therapy for the treatment of chronic refractory wounds were included in the databases of CNKI, Wan fang, VIP, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library from the time of database construction to November 2022. After literature screening, data extraction and quality evaluation, Meta analysis was performed using Stata 15.1 software. Results After screening, a total of 11 Chinese literatures that met the criteria of this paper were retrieved, involving a total of 359 patients with chronic refractory wounds. The observation group was treated with autologous platelet-rich plasma combined with negative pressure wound therapy, and the control group was treated with negative pressure wound therapy alone. Graph neural networks (GNNs) is applied successfully in many graph tasks, but there still exists a limitation that many of GNNs model do not consider uncertainty quantification of its output predictions. For uncertainty quantification, there are mainly two types of methods which are frequentist and Bayesian. But both methods need to sampling to gradually approximate the real distribution, in contrast, evidential deep learning formulates learning as an evidence acquisition process, which could get uncertainty quantification by placing evidential priors over the original Gaussian likelihood function and training the NN to infer the hyperparameters of the evidential distribution without sampling. So evidential deep learning (EDL) has its own advantage in measuring uncertainty. We apply it with diffusion convolutional recurrent neural network (DCRNN), and do the experiment in spatiotemporal forecasting task in a real-world traffic dataset. And we choose mean interval scores (MIS), a good metric for uncertainty quantification. We summarized the advantages of each method.

Abstract Background Apatinib (YN968D1) is the first small-molecule-targeting drug with anti-tumor activity created in China for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer (GC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It showed significant variation in the efficacy for treating cancers, including advanced non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Whether its efficacy could be optimized by subgrouping patients with certain genetic variation remains elusive. Methods Here, we firstly used kinase screening to identify any possible target of apatinib against 138 kinases. The effects of apatinib on proliferation rates, cell cycle, cell apoptosis, and cell migration on cancer cell lines were analyzed; the in vitro potential pathways of apatinib on cancer cell lines were screened. The effect of apatinib on mouse cancer models in vivo was also analyzed. Results Based on HCC364 cells with BRAF V600E mutation, we have shown that apatinib could inhibit their growth, migration, cell cycle, and induce their apoptosis. Based on mice with transplanted HCC364 cells, we have also shown that apatinib could inhibit the tumor growth. Based on immunohistochemistry, we have demonstrated that apatinib could suppress the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase and extracellular regulated protein kinases. This may account at least part of the apatinib’s inhibitory effect on HCC364 cancer cells. Conclusions BRAF V600E protein kinase is a target of apatinib by kinase screening. We have demonstrated that apatinib can effectively inhibit tumor cells with BRAF V600E mutation by in vitro and in vivo experiments. Our results have demonstrated that targeting BRAF V600E mutation, apatinib appears to be effective and safe for treating NSCLC and possibly other cancers with the same mutation.

Oil and gas resources in the Shunbei area of the Tarim Basin are rich in Paleozoic strata.Recent petroleum exploration indicates that Mesozoic-Cenozoic sedimentary rocks have a good potential in hydrocarbon extraction. In this study, recently acquired 3D seismic surveys were used to systematically analyze fault types, geometrical characteristics, and evolution of Mesozoic-Cenozoic faults in the Shunbei area. The objective is to understand the characteristics and development mechanisms of faults that have the key controlling factors of hydrocarbon accumulation.In the Shunbei area, the dominant faults are tensional normal faults with few thrust faults and strike-slip faults. The district has many small scale, disorderly distributed faults. Combined with the regional setting and basin evolution stage, we suggest that the development of Mesozoic-Cenozoic faults in the Shunbei area experienced three tectonic cycles during the Indosinian, Yanshanian, and Himalayan periods. The structural position, middle Permian igneous rocks, and the sandy mudstone of the Lower Triassic Tongketuer Formation have significant control on fault evolution.Detailed interpretation of faults in the T90-T50 stratigraphic interval in the Shunbei area shows that the central part of the No.5 fault and south central part of the No.7 fault are two large faults that connect downward to the source rock of the basin. In these two areas, some faults cut upward through T90 to T50, which is good forvertical migration of hydrocarbon from Paleozoic to Mesozoic-Cenozoic strata and therefore are ideal locations for petroleum exploration.

Green public technological innovation is regarded as an indispensable tool for realizing sustainable development and coping with global challenges, and the major social challenges and global problems faced by mankind nowadays have put forward higher requirements for green technological innovation in the public sector. This paper considers the dynamic process of technological innovation, constructs a green public technology innovation supply chain consisting of the government and two competing manufacturers, uses a stochastic stopping model to portray the impact of the dynamic process of technological innovation on the green technology innovation supply chain, and studies the equilibrium strategies of green technology innovation under three models of decentralized decision-making, centralized decision-making, and government subsidy decision-making between the government and the manufacturers based on a differential game model. It is found that: 1) Higher probability of successful technological innovation and product greenness enhancement can effectively incentivize the government and manufacturers to increase R&D investment in green technological innovation before successful technological innovation; 2) Supply chain members will consider the marginal profit after technological innovation when deciding the R&D investment before technological innovation success; 3) Manufacturers’ competition is beneficial to increase manufacturers’ investment in technological innovation, but it will lead to a decrease in the rate of government subsidy. Government subsidies help to increase both parties’ technological innovation investment and product greenness and achieve higher supply chain profits; 4) The centralized decision-making model can achieve the optimal green technology innovation strategy, product greenness, and supply chain profits compared with the decentralized decision-making model.

Sustainable technological innovation is seen as an important tool for achieving sustainable development and addressing global challenges. The current major social challenges and global issues facing humanity have increased the demand for a sustainable supply of technological innovation in the public sector. This paper constructs a public technology innovation supply chain consisting of the government and two competitive firms in the context of public technology innovation. The model considers four strategic types of government cost subsidies and studies the public technology innovation investment decisions of supply chain members based on optimal control and dynamic differential games. The equilibrium strategies of public technological innovation under different models are compared and analyzed. Combined with numerical simulations, the paper analyzes the effects of competitive intensity on enterprise R&D innovation strategy, government subsidy rate, enterprise brand goodwill and supply chain performance under different models and verifies the rationality of the models. The results show that: (1) Although competition among firms harms the profits of the low-type firm, it increases the overall performance of the public technology innovation supply chain and government benefits, and promotes the innovation efforts of the high-type firm. (2) Asymmetric cost sharing by the government hinders the profit growth of firms without cost subsidies. (3) The goal of equal benefits for supply chain members can only be achieved under symmetric government subsidies. Theoretically, this paper provides new ideas for the study of supply chains for sustainable innovation in public technology from a dynamic perspective. Practically, this study provides a reference for the behavioral decisions of government and firms in public technology innovation cooperation.

39. CrowdGAIL: A spatiotemporal aware method for agent navigation

Agent navigation has been a crucial task in today's service and automated factories. Many efforts are to set specific rules for agents in a certain scenario to regulate the agent's behaviors. However, not all situations could be in advance considered, which might lead to terrible performance in a real-world application. In this paper, we propose CrowdGAIL, a method to learn from expert behaviors as an instructing policy, can train most 'human-like' agents in navigation problems without manually setting any reward function or beforehand regulations. First, the proposed model structure is based on generative adversarial imitation learning (GAIL), which imitates how humans take actions and move toward the target to a maximum extent, and by comparison, we prove the advantage of proximal policy optimization (PPO) to trust region policy optimization, thus, GAIL-PPO is what we base. Second, we design a special Sequential DemoBuffer compatible with the inner long short-term memory structure to apply spatiotemporal instruction on the agent's next step. Third, the paper demonstrates the potential of the model with an integrated social manner in a multi-agent scenario by considering human collision avoidance as well as social comfort distance. At last, experiments on the generated dataset from CrowdNav verify how close our model would act like a human being in the trajectory aspect and also how it could guide the multi-agents by avoiding any collision. Under the same evaluation metrics, CrowdGAIL shows better results compared with classic Social-GAN.

Abstract Background Type III pelvic bone tumor resections are often accompanied by postoperative complications. In order to reduce complications, we developed a novel pedicled sartorius flap and mesh (PSM) technique to reconstruct the pelvic ring defect. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and risks of this PSM technique in type III pelvic bone tumor resections by comparing outcomes between patients that underwent PSM reconstruction and patients that did not receive any reconstruction. Methods We retrospectively reviewed a consecutive set of patients that underwent type III pelvic bone tumor surgeries in our center from January 2020 to January 2021 with either PSM reconstruction (designated as the PSM group) or without any reconstruction (designated as the control group). General information such as age, gender, tumor type, tumor size, and surgical-related information such as duration of surgery, blood loss, and the surgical margins was collected. Outcome data recorded included wound complications such as infection and dehiscence, local recurrence, and Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) scores for postoperative functional evaluation. Statistical analysis between both groups was performed with GraphPad Prism v7. Results A total of 20 patients were included in this study (PSM group n = 12, control group n = 8). While no herniation was found in the PSM group, it occurred in 6 of 8 cases in the control group. Abstract Coagulation/flocculation is one of the most widely used and cost-effective pretreatment methods for improving the dewaterability of sludge. In this study, a cationic modified starch-based flocculant (St-CTA) in conjunction with a popular clay, attapulgite (ATP), was used for the conditioning of waste-activated sludge. The dewatering properties, including the filter cake moisture content, filtration specific resistance, capillary suction time, filtration rate and compressibility coefficient, were measured and compared by varying the doses of St-CTA and ATP. By combination of the apparent dewatering performance and the changes in the contents and distributions of the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) fractions and components, sludge flocs, and microstructures of sludge cakes, the dewatering mechanisms were discussed in detail. St-CTA in conjunction with ATP can exhibit an enhanced dewaterability of sludge and the water content in final sludge cake can be stably reduced below 80% owing to the synergistic effects of St-CTA and ATP. In addition to the efficient charge neutralization of St-CTA, ATP not only acts as a skeleton builder in the sludge dewatering process which makes the sludge flocs more compact and improves the filterability and permeability, but also tightly interacts with the proteins in EPS of the sludge which reduces the protein content and further enhances the dewatering effect. This study provides an economical, green, and effective way to further improve the dewaterability of sludge.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic hepatic condition whose impact on human health is increasingly significant. The imbalance of the gut microbiome, linked to insulin resistance, heightened intestinal permeability, and pro-inflammatory reactions, may be the linchpin in the development of NAFLD. In our research, the impact of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum ZDY2013 administration for 12 weeks on gut microbiota dysbiosis induced by a high-fat, high-fructose, high-cholesterol (FHHC) diet in male C57BL/6n mice was investigated. Research results presented that the intervention of L. plantarum ZDY2013 in mice fed with the FHHC diet could restore their liver function and regulate oxidative stress. Compared to mice in the model group, the intervention of L. plantarum ZDY2013 significantly regulated the gut microbiota, inhibited the LPS/NF-κB pathway, and led to a lower level of colonic inflammation in the mice administered with L. plantarum ZDY2013. It also improved insulin resistance to regulate the PI3K/Akt pathway and lipid metabolism, thereby resulting in reduced fat accumulation in the liver. The above results suggest that the intervention of L. plantarum ZDY2013 can hinder the progression of diet-induced NAFLD by reducing inflammation to regulate the PI3K/Akt pathway and regulating gut microbiota disturbance.

Past studies have shown that spontaneous electroencephalography indicators—namely, the theta/beta power ratio and alpha oscillation—may measure individuals’ attentional control processes. However, there is lack of research distinguishing these differences. This study investigated whether the theta/beta power ratio and alpha oscillation were separately related to the objective and subjective criteria of attentional control in eyes-open and eyes-closed conditions. The results showed two main findings: (1) In the eyes-open condition, the theta/beta power ratio at the Fz and Pz electrode sites were significantly negatively correlated with the attentional control scale score; the alpha power at the Pz electrode site was significantly negatively correlated with flanker RT interference effect; (2) In the eyes-closed condition, the alpha power at the Cz and Pz electrode sites were significantly positively correlated with flanker P3d. In summary, this study showed that the eyes-open spontaneous theta/beta power ratio may reflect individuals’ beliefs in their attentional control ability, and the alpha oscillation may be related to individuals’ attentional control ability.

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, a typical ecological species against pathogens, used due to its bacteriocin yield in fermented foods, was proven to have the capacity to lower cholesterol. In this study, using L. plantarum ATCC8014 as the control, L. plantarum WLPL21 and ZDY04 were probed with whole-genome sequencing to ascertain their potential ability to lower cholesterol and yield bacteriocins, as well as to further evaluate their survival capacity in vitro. Our results showed 386 transport-system genes in both L. plantarum WLPL21 and ZDY04. Correspondingly, the in vitro results showed that L. plantarum WLPL21 and ZDY04 could remove cholesterol at 49.23% and 41.97%, respectively, which is 1.89 and 1.61 times that of L. plantarum ATCC8014. The survival rates of L. plantarum WLPL21 and ZDY04 in 1% H2O2, pH 3.0, and 0.3% bile salt were higher than those of L. plantarum ATCC8014. Our results exhibited a complete gene cluster for bacteriocin production encoded by L. plantarum WLPL21 and ZDY04, including plnJKR, plnPQAB, plnEFI, plnSUVWY, and plnJK; and plnMN, plnPQA and plnEFI, respectively, compared with only plnEF in L. plantarum ATCC8014. The present study suggests that the combination of genomic analysis with in vitro evaluations might be useful for exploring the potential functions of probiotics.

Sleep disturbances are commonly non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's diseases (PD). However, standard dopamine replacement therapies for the treatment of motor symptoms often prove inadequate in combating sleep disturbances. Previous studies conducted by our research group have reported the neuroprotective effects of tenuigenin, a natural extract from Polygala tenuifolia root, which has been traditionally employed in treating insomnia. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential of tenuigenin in modulating sleep-wake behaviors and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. We employed EEG/EMG recordings to evaluate the impact of tenuigenin on sleep-wake profiles. Furthermore, we utilized c-Fos immunostaining, whole-cell patch clamping and local field potentials (LFP) recording to explore the mechanisms involved in sleep-promoting effects of tenuigenin. Additionally, we examined the effects of tenuigenin on sleep-promoting in MPTP PD mice. Here, we found tenuigenin demonstrated a significant increase in NREM sleep and a reduction in sleep latency in mice, without altering the EEG power density. Moreover, tenuigenin increased c-Fos expression in the ventrolateral preoptic area (VLPO) and stimulated sleep-promoting neurons in VLPO. The sleep-promoting effects of tenuigenin were abolished when mice were pretreated with flumazenil, an antagonist at the benzodiazepine site of the GABAA receptor. Furthermore, tenuigenin was found to ameliorate sleep disturbances in MPTP-induced mice. The results suggesting that tenuigenin facilitated a type of NREM sleep comparable to physiological NREM sleep through interaction with the GABAA receptor. Additionally, tenuigenin demonstrated improvements in sleep disturbances in MPTP-induced PD mice, suggesting its potential as a sleep-promoting substance, particularly for PD patients experiencing sleep disturbances.

IntroductionExploring the influencing factors and functioning mechanisms of thriving at work is of practical significance both for teachers and kindergartens. Based on the socially embedded model of thriving at work, this study aimed to examine the association between negative workplace gossip and thriving at work. The mediating role of psychological contract breach and the moderating role of bianzhi were also examined.MethodsA total of 1105 Chinese kindergarten teachers were chosen to complete a questionnaire on negative workplace gossip, psychological contract breach, and thriving at work.ResultsThe results demonstrated that negative workplace gossip was positively associated with psychological contract breach and negatively associated with thriving at work. In addition, psychological contract breach was negatively associated with thriving at work. According to the mediation model test, psychological contract breach was a mediating factor between negative workplace gossip and thriving at work. The impact of psychological contract breach on thriving at work could be further moderated by bianzhi.ConclusionThis study complements knowledge systems about the influential factors and functional mechanisms of thriving at work. In practical terms, this study offers a fresh and innovative perspective for kindergartens seeking to enhance teachers’ thriving at work.

IntroductionThe Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) is a highly valued freshwater crustacean in China. While the natural shell color of E. sinensis is greenish brown (GH), we found a variety with a brownish-orange shell color (RH). Although RH is more expensive, it exhibits a lower molting frequency and growth rate compared with GH, which significantly reduces its yield and hinders large-scale farming. The growth and development of animals are closely related to their gut microbiota and gut tissue metabolic profiles.MethodsIn this study, we compared the gut microbiome communities and metabolic profiles of juvenile RH and GH crabs using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS), respectively.ResultsOur findings indicated that the intestinal microbial composition and metabolic characteristics of E. sinensis differed significantly between RH and GH. At the operational taxonomic unit (OTU) level, the α-diversity of the gut microbiota did not differ significantly between RH and GH, while the β-diversity of the RH gut microbiota was higher than that of the GH gut microbiota. At the species level, the richness of unclassified_c_Alphaproteobacteria was significantly higher in the GH group, while the RH group had a significantly higher richness of three low-abundance species, Flavobacteria bacterium BAL38, Paraburkholderia ferrariae, and uncultured_bacterium_g__Legionella. In the current study, 598 gut tissue metabolites were identified, and 159 metabolites were significantly different between GH and RH. The metabolite profile of RH was characteristic of a low level of most amino acids and lipid metabolites and a high level of several pigments compared with that of GH. These metabolites were enriched in 102 KEGG pathways. Four pathways, including (1) Central carbon metabolism in cancer, (2) protein digestion and absorption, (3) alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, and (4) aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, were significantly enriched. The correlation analysis between metabolites and microbiotas indicated that most key differential metabolites were positively correlated with the abundance of Shewanella_sp_MR-7.DiscussionThis research provided a greater understanding of the physiological conditions of E. sinensis varieties with different shell colors by comparing the gut microbiota and gut tissue metabolome.

Background: Ginseng is a rare and highly valued Chinese materia medica with a rich trading history and has a wide range of application, including medicine, food, healthcare, and daily chemical production. However, the global trade of ginseng exhibits diverse features and uneven development across different countries and regions. Surprisingly, the intricate network relationship and the underlying characteristics and influencing factors of ginseng trade networks remain unexplored.Methods: This study analyzed ginseng trade data obtained from the UN-Comtrade database and used social network analysis to construct global ginseng trade networks. To elucidate the structural characteristics, we analyzed the indicators of the overall network structure and node attributes. Core-periphery analysis is used to examine the evolutionary patterns within the global ginseng trade networks. Furthermore, we apply the quadratic assignment procedure to investigate the impact and relevance of spatial proximity, cultural differences, economic indicators, population size, technological similarity, and institutional distance.Results: The findings reveal that the global ginseng trade networks exhibit typical small-world and scale-free properties, as well as a core-periphery structure. Several core countries, including China, South Korea, Germany, and the United States, exert significant control over both trade volume and trade partners. South Korea and China initially occupied central positions in the export market due to their resource endowments, their prominence has gradually diminished with the ascendancy of Germany and the United States. According to the core-periphery analysis, the ginseng trade has shown a gradual concentration within specific trade groups comprising core and semi-periphery countries, most of which are along the “Belt and Road” religion. We also found that geographic distance and GDP per capita exert negative effects on ginseng trade, while factors such as land adjacency, technology and economic gap, population size, and institution similarity play significant positive roles.Conclusion: The global ginseng trade has experienced increasing concentration and close linkage among a limited numbers of participants. It is crucial to pay close attention to the relationship between ginseng industry development and resource conservation. Strategies such as expanding trade channels, implementing trade substitution measures, and optimizing the quality and standards of ginseng products can effectively enhance trade security.

Abstract Background The efficacy of off-pump coronary endarterectomy (CE) has been proven in patients with diffuse coronary artery disease (DCAD). However, the clinical benefits of of-pump CE stratified by different target vessels remain controversial. This retrospective study assessed the effect of the territory and number of CE on short- and long-term outcomes of DCAD. Methods From January 2012 to December 2014, 246 patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG) + CE were included. The patients were grouped by the territory and number of CE. The primary endpoints were postoperative acute myocardial infarction (PMI) and long-term major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). Results Sixty-five patients (26.42%) were in the left anterior descending branch (LAD) group (CE on LAD), 134(54.47%) in the right coronary artery (RCA) group (CE on RCA), and 47(19.10%) in the multi-vessels group. PMI in the LAD group, RCA group, and multi-vessels group were 3.08%, 6.72%, and 14.89%, respectively (P = 0.08). Abstract Background Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) suffer from a high incidence of premature ovarian failure, which might be due to cyclophosphamide gonadal toxicity, immune abnormalities, or other reasons. This study aimed to investigate whether the transplantation of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUC‐MSCs) can improve ovarian reserve function in lupus mice. Methods We used MRL/lpr mice to observe changes in ovarian structure and secretory function in SLE. Lupus mice and controls were injected with HUC‐MSCs at Weeks 12 and 16. We detected serum concentrations of the sex hormones estradiol (E2), follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH), and anti‐Müllerian hormone (AMH), using enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assays. Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed ovarian tissue structure and enabled the counting of follicles. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and insulin‐like growth factor 1 (IGF‐1) expression in ovarian tissue was observed by immunohistochemistry.
