At present, multidisciplinary tumor boards (MDTB) are considered best practice in oncology. However, web-based virtualization of MDTB may increase participation in meetings, the number of cases discussed, and adherence to guidelines, deliver better treatment, and eventually improve outcomes for patients with prostate cancer.This is an observational study focused on exploring the structuring process and implementing a multi-institutional virtual MDTB in Sicily, Italy. Other endpoints included the analysis of cooperation between participants, adherence to guidelines, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction.Overall, 126 patients were referred to the virtual MDTB for a total of 302 cases discussed in an 18-month period. Nearly 45% of cases were referred from general hospitals or tertiary centers, 38% from comprehensive cancer centers, and only 17% from academic ones. Most health professional participants (95%) reported eliminating geographical barriers and consequently reducing costs and saving time as key advantages of virtual meetings over face-to-face ones. Using a specifically designed platform for virtual MDTBs was another excellent point, especially to geolocate clinical trials and time-lapse data storage. The majority of referred patients had stage T 3-4 prostate cancer (79%). Overall, 71% of proposals discussed were approved unchanged, while 19% changed after the virtual MDTB discussion. Debated points were mostly radiologic, surgical, medical, or radiation treatment-related issues. In particular, the prescriptive appropriateness of positron emission tomography with 68Ga-prostatic specific membrane antigen, newer drugs, radiation versus surgical approach, stage T3-4 cases, and adjuvant therapy represented the most debated issues. The proposed diagnostic and/or therapeutic options were controlled for adherence to the guidelines and/or updated scientific evidence. Overall, 98% of approved proposals and changes were in line with the guidelines. Overall, most participants felt virtual MDTB was very useful and case discussions led to a major change of strategy in 19% of cases.Virtual MDTBs are a very useful way to achieve best management of prostate cancer while saving time and fostering cooperation.

Introduction: This monocentric, single-arm, retrospective study investigated the role of stereotactic body radiotherapy in patients with metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer who experienced oligoprogression during androgen receptor targeted agents. Methods: We retrospectively enrolled metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer patients treated with androgen receptor targeted agents between December 2016 and January 2022. All patients experienced an oligoprogression (defined as the appearance and/or the progression of ⩽5 bone or nodal or soft tissue metastases) during treatment with androgen receptor targeted agents and received stereotactic body radiotherapy upon oligoprogressive sites, preserving the androgen receptor targeted agents. Further stereotactic body radiotherapy upon new metastatic sites was permitted. Patients showing visceral metastases or receiving palliative radiotherapy were excluded. Progressive disease at >5 metastatic sites or the appearance of visceral metastases led to a change of the systemic treatment. Primary endpoints were 36-month survival rate and 36-month rate of patients receiving treatment with androgen receptor targeted agents. Secondary endpoints were local disease control, biochemical response and safety. Results: We analyzed data from 30 patients. The 36-month survival rate was 90% (27 patients); 36-month rate of patients who were still on treatment with androgen receptor targeted agents was 50%. 20 of 30 patients had performed imaging control after a single course of stereotactic body radiotherapy: overall response rate was 50%, while clinical benefit was 93%. No ⩾G2 adverse events related to stereotactic body radiotherapy were recorded. Conclusions: Stereotactic body radiotherapy in oligoprogressive metastatic sites during androgen receptor targeted agent treatment resulted in a feasible and effective treatment to delay the start of next-line systemic treatment and prolong overall survival in metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer. Longer follow-up and further prospective studies are necessary to confirm our preliminary results.

E-mail: isabella@cca.ufes.br The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of triclabendazole in the treatment of clinical fasciolosis in goats on a property in Jerônimo Monteiro, ES after parasitological diagnosis. Twenty-eight goats with signs of fasciolosis, created a system of semi-confinement property in the flooded area and the presence of the intermediate host of Fasciola hepatica were treated with medications based on triclabendazole at a dose of 10mg/kg after confirmation of infection by stool examinations. Two animals died and came one animal was euthanized due to severe anemia and general debility. Both surveys found that after treatment all animals were negative for F. hepatica. In addition, the animals showed improvement in clinical symptoms. At necropsy of the three animals was observed fibrotic liver, with lesions and presence of the parasite in the liver ducts. The triclabendazole at a dose of 10mg/kg body weight was effective in the clinical treatment of fascioliasis in goats., O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficácia do triclabendazole no tratamento de fasciolose clínica em caprinos numa propriedade em Jerônimo Monteiro, ES após diagnóstico coproparasitológico. Vinte e oito caprinos com sinais de fasciolose, criados num sistema de semi-confinamento em propriedade com área alagada e presença do hospedeiro intermediário de Fasciola hepatica foram tratados com medicamento a base de triclabendazole na dose de 10mg/Kg após confirmaçãoda infecção por exame coproparasitológico. Dois animais vieram a óbito e um animal foi eutanasiado devido a debilidade geral e anemia severa. Os dois exames pós-tratamento constataram que todos os animais apresentaram resultado negativo para F. hepatica. Além disso, os animais apresentaram melhora no quadro clínico. À necropsia dos três animais foi possível observar fibrose hepática, com lesão e presença do parasito nos ductos hepáticos. O triclabendazole na dose de 10mg/kg de peso vivo semostrou eficaz no tratamento de fasciolose clínica em caprinos.

E-mail: cristiano.grisi@convolution.com.br The objective of the present study was to monitor the resistance of populations of Haematobia irritans insecticide tests were carried out on properties in the northwest region of São Paulo, using filter paper impregnated with insecticides in Petri dishes. The pyrethroids cypermethrin and permethrin and organophosphate diazinon were tested in different concentrations. For each dilution three replicates were used, with at least twenty flies each of the horns. The readings of the plates were made with two and four hours of exposure, calculating the lethal concentration 50 (LC50) and the resistance factor (RF) for each population. Populations of H. irritans northwestern state of São Paulo can be considered highly susceptible to cypermethrin and resistant to permethrin and diazinon. The results found in three farms in the northwestern state of São Paulo were compared with data recorded thirteen years ago by researchers at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, in the same region, during the initial dispersal of H. irritans. In vitro tests proved to be an important tool in the indication of populations of H. irritans resistant to insecticides., Com o objetivo de monitorar a resistência de populações de Haematobia irritans a inseticidas foram realizados testes em propriedades daregião noroeste do estado de São Paulo, empregando-se papéis de filtro impregnados com inseticidas em placas de Petri. Foram testados in vitro os piretróides cipermetrina e permetrina e o organofosforado diazinon. Para cada diluição avaliada foram utilizadas três repetições, com no mínimo vinte moscas dos chifres cada uma. As leituras das placas foram efetuadas com duas e quatro horas de exposição, calculando-se a concentração letal 50 (CL50) e o fator de resistência (FR) para cada população. As populações de Haematobia irritans do noroeste do estado de São Paulo podem ser consideradas altamente resistentes à cipermetrina e susceptíveis à permetrina e ao diazinon. Os resultados observados em três propriedades rurais do noroeste do estado de São Paulo foram comparados com os dados registrados há treze anos por pesquisadores da Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, na mesma região, por ocasião da dispersão inicial de H. irritans. O teste in vitro mostrou-se uma ferramenta importante na indicação de populações de H. irritans resistentes a inseticidas.

Background/aim Radiation therapy (RT) represents a therapeutic option in breast cancer (BC). Even if a great number of BC patients receive RT, not all of them report benefits, due to radioresistance that gets activated through several factors, such as the hormone receptor status. Herein, we analyzed the gene expression profiles (GEP) induced by RT in triple-negative BC (TNBC) MDA-MB-231, to study signalling networks involved in radioresistance. Materials and methods GEP of MDA-MB-231 BC cells treated with a high dose of radiation, went through cDNA microarray analysis. In addition, to examine the cellular effects induced by RT, analyses of morphology and clonogenic evaluation were also conducted. Results A descriptive report of GEP and pathways induced by IR is reported from our microarray data. Moreover, the MDA-MB-231 Radioresistent Cell Fraction (RCF) selected, included specific molecules able to drive radioresistance. Conclusion In summary, our data highlight, the RT response of TNBC MDA-MB-231 cell line at a transcriptional level, in terms of activating radioresistance in these cells, as a model of late-stage BC.

The introduction of checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) treatment landscape, resulted in improvements in overall survival (OS) in metastatic patients. Brain metastases (BMs) are a specific metastatic site of interest representing a predictive factor of poor prognosis. Patients with BMs were usually excluded from prospective clinical trials in the past. Despite recent evidence suggest the efficacy and safety of ICIs, the BMs treatment remains a challenge; the immunotherapy responsiveness seems to be multifactorial and dependent on several factors, such as the genetic intratumor heterogeneity and the immunosuppressive role of the brain tumor microenvironment. This review, starting from the immunological background in RCC BMs, provide an overview of the upcoming evidence from clinical trials, address the issues related to the neuroradiological immunotherapy response evaluation and, with a look to the future, describes how the epigenetic modulation of immune evasion could represent a background for new therapeutic strategies.

BAC KGROUND: Radiation therapy (RT ) has become one of the most widely-used and efficient treatments for cancer; nevertheless, people who undergo radiotherapy suffer the physical and psychological consequences of this stressful treatment, in addition to the psychosocial distress related to cancer. However, a Radiotherapy Unit is often a place where several patients crowd in from various hospitals with restricted timetables and, for logistic reasons, it is not easy to provide regular psychological sessions for each one. It is important to find a setting that allows us the involvement of the largest number of patients referred to the unit. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility and the effect of a brief intervention of cognitive-oriented diary on the quality of life, anxiety and depressive symptoms of patients undergoing radiotherapy (RT ), compared to a control group. METH ODS: The sample was constituted of 68 experimental subjects and 78 controls, treated with RT . Both groups were assessed with the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS -20), the Hamilton Anxiety and Depression Scale (HA DS) and the EORTC -QLQ at the beginning and at the end of their RT . The mites were diagnosed through otoscopy, by cerumen analysis and subsequent microscopic identification of mites (X100). The animals were divided into two group soften: control, without treatment (GI) and a second group (GII) treated with a 1% flumethrin single application, fractionated in pour on and directly into the external ear. The dogs were evaluated daily for observation of possible side effects. To evaluate the efficacy, otoscopy were performed on days +3, +7, +14, +21 and +28. The control group showed mites through all the observation period. In the treated group, the effectiveness was 70%, 70%, 80%, 100% and 100% for days +3, +7, +14, +21 and +28, respectively. No adverse reactions were observed in treated animals. The flumethrin was effective in the treatment of otocariasis in naturally infested dogs., O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a eficácia da flumetrina 1% tópica no tratamento de infestações por Otodectes cynotis em cães. Foram utilizados 20 cães Beagles com infestação natural diagnosticada através de otoscopia e análise do cerume, com posterior identificação dos ácaros por microscopia (X100). Os animais foram divididos em dois grupos contendo 10 animais cada. O Grupo 1 permaneceu sem tratamento (grupo controle). Já os animais do grupo 2 foram tratados com 1mg/kg de flumetrina a 1% em dose única, fracionada em aplicações pour on e diretamente na orelha externa.Os cães foram avaliados diariamente para observação de possíveis efeitos colaterais. Para avaliar a eficácia, foram realizadas otoscopias nos dias +3, +7, +14, +21 e +28. O grupo controle apresentou ácaros durante todo o período de observação. Já o grupo tratado, apresentou eficácia do piretróide de: 70%, 70%, 80%, 100% e 100% para os dias +3, +7, +14, + 21 e +28, respectivamente. Não foram observadas reações adversas nos animais tratados. A flumetrina foi eficaz no tratamento da otoacaríase em cães naturalmente infestados.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a influência de dietas merídicas compostas por sangue de diferentes espécies animais sobre a emergência de adultos da pulga Ctenocephalides felis felis. Foram utilizadas seis dietas artificiais contendo areia e sangue desidratado de cão, boi, coelho e galinha, acrescidas ou não com farelo de trigo. Foram realizadas seis repetições contendo dez ovos de C. f. felis para cada dieta. Após 25 dias de incubação, os ovos foram quantificados e avaliados quanto à emergência de adultos. O número de pulgas emergidas para dietas com sangue de boi, cão, coelho e galinha, com areia e farelo de trigo, foi de aproximadamente oito pulgas. Para as dietas contendo apenas sangue de boi ou de cão e areia, essa emergência foi de aproximadamente uma pulga para ambas. Conclui-se que a origem do sangue empregado na elaboração da dieta não interfere significativamente no percentual de emergência de adultos de C. f. felis. Portanto, pode-se optar pela espécie animal disponível para o preparo da dieta artificial, aliada à suplementação com farelo de trigo, para suprir uma eventual perda nutricional decorrente da desidratação do sangue.The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of meridic diets composed by blood from different animal species upon the adult emergence of Ctenocephalides felis felis fleas. E-mail: isabella@cca.ufes.br The control of bovine fascioliasis should involve the use of chemicals and management measures, as restricting the areas contaminated with clams, among others. The absence of a product with triclabendazole and the need for the use of other active drugs to preserve the activity of triclabendazole encouraged this study, which aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of albendazole, albendazole sulfoxide and clorsulon in the treatment of F. hepatica in dairy cattle. The experiment was conducted in two stages: first, six animals were selected for the control group and 6 for the group treated with albendazole 10%. Feces were collected on days 0, +7 and +21 and sent to the Laboratory of Parasitology of the Veterinary Hospital of the Centre for Agrarian Sciences, Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo (Hovet-CCA-UFES) for the sedimentation procedure described by Foreyt, for the presence of eggs of F. hepatica. In the second stage 18 cows were divided into 3 groups of 6 animals, as follows: Group I (control) and group II treated with albendazole sulfoxide 10% and group III treated with clorsulon 10%. Feces were collected on days 0 and +7, +14, +21 and +28. To calculate the overall effectiveness of the dewormers we used the following formula:% efficiency = (mean egg control group - mean eggs treatment group / mean egg control group) x 100. The efficacy of albendazole was 19.64 and 26.53% at 7 and 21 days after treatment respectively. The efficacy of albendazole sulfoxide was 71.56% and 78.65% at 7 to 14 days after treatment, showing no efficacy at 21 and 28 days. The clorsulon showed 100% efficacy in the control of fasciolosis during the 28 days of study., O controle da fasciolose bovina deve associar o uso de produtos químicos com medidas de manejo como restrição a áreas contaminadas commoluscos, entre outras. A ausência de um produto no mercado brasileiro a base de triclabendazole associado a necessidade do uso de outros princípiosativos visando preservar a atividade do triclabendazole incentivou este estudo, que teve por objetivo avaliar a eficácia dos princípios ativos albendazole, sulfoxido de albendazole e clorsulon no tratamento da F. hepatica em bovinos leiteiros. O experimento foi realizado em 2 etapas: na primeira, foram selecionados 6 animais para o grupo controle e 6 para o grupo tratado com albendazole 10%. As fezes foram coletadas nos dias 0, +7 e +21 e encaminhadas ao Laboratório de Parasitologia do Hospital Veteriná- rio do Centro de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (HOVET-CCA-UFES) para procedimento da técnica de sedimentação descrita por Foreyt, para detecção da presença de ovos de F. hepatica. Na segunda etapa 18 vacas foram divididas em 3 grupos com 6 animais, sendo: grupo I (controle) e grupo II tratado com sulfoxido de albendazole 10% e grupo III tratado com clorsulon 10%. As fezes foram coletadas nos dias 0 e +7, +14, +21 e +28. Para o cálculo da eficácia geral dos vermífugos foi utilizada a seguinte formula: % eficácia = (média ovos grupo controle – média ovos grupo tratado/ média ovos grupo controle) x 100. A eficácia do albendazole foi de 19,64 e 26,53% aos 7 e 21 dias após o tratamento respectivamente. A eficácia do sulfóxido de albendazole foi de 71,56% e 78,65% aos 7 a 14 dias após o tratamento, não apresentando eficácia aos 21 e 28 dias. O clorsulon apresentou eficácia de 100%, no controle da fasciolose, durante os 28 dias de estudo.

The activity of the insecticide thiamethoxam on populations of Musca domestica was assessed through in vitro tests, controlled environment and field conditions. The flies were gathered from a colony maintained by the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, and from the landfill of the city of Seropedica-RJ, Brazil. Regarding the in vitro assay, thiamethoxan was previously diluted in acetone, resulting in concentrations of 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 27, 5 and 30 mg/ml. Then, filter paper discs were impregnated with 1 ml of each of these dilutions. Thus, the test was conducted with adult flies maintained in Petri dishes. For the controlled environment and field conditions, trial baits were used with the active or a placebo (control group). The lethal concentration 50 (LC50) of thiamethoxam on M. domestica found in the in vitro assay was 0.2612 mg / cm ². The efficacy of thiamethoxan baits on the controlled environment and field conditions trials was 94.06 % and 98.09 %, respectively. KEYWORDS: Baits, Musca domestica, neonicotinoids, thiamethoxam.

E-mail: vetjulio@yahoo.com.br Dirofilariasis is an important zoonosis that is the domestic dog the major host. Although most animals is asymptomatic, possible laboratory abnormalities can be found. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hematology and serum biochemistry of dogs naturally infected with Dirofilaria immitis microfilariae, from the Algodoal Island, located in the state of Pará. Diagnosis was done by identifying microfilaria through the modified Knott method. Out of 82 animals, 53 (64.63%) dogs were found positive and 29 (36.34%) negative. On physical examination, all animals were asymptomatic. The main findings in hematology were normocytic normochromic anemia, thrombocytopenia, lymphocytosis and basophilia. In the serum biochemistry, only urea values were above normal levels. It was not possible to identify findings that are pathognomonic of infection in dogs. However, laboratory evaluations should still be considered for diagnosis and treatment., A dirofilariose é uma importante zoonose que tem no cão doméstico o seu principal hospedeiro. Apesar da maioria dos animais serem assintomáticos, possíveis alterações laboratoriais podem ser encontradas. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o perfil hematológico e bioquímico de cãesnaturalmente infectados por Dirofilaria immitis da localidade da Ilha de Algodoal, Pará. O diagnóstico baseou-se na identificação das microfilárias pela técnica de Knott modificada. Dentre os 82 animais avaliados, 53 (64,63%) foram encontrados positivos e 29 (36,34%) negativos. No exame físico, todos os animais apresentaram assintomáticos. Os principais achados na hematologia foram anemia normocítica normocrômica, trombocitopenia, linfocitose e basofilia. Na bioquímica sérica apenas os valores de ureia estavam acima dos níveis de normalidade. Não foi possível identificar achados característicos da infecção nos exames dos cães. Entretanto, avaliações laboratoriais devem ser levadas em consideração para o diagnóstico e tratamento.
