1. Synchronous and Asynchronous Updates of Active Ising Spins in One Dimension

Abstract

How do update rules affect the dynamical and steady state properties of a flock? In this study, we have explored the active Ising spins (s = +-1) in one dimension, where spin updates its orientation according to the Metropolis algorithm (based on the neighbors) via two different update rules. (i) Parallel, and (ii) Random-sequential. We explore the effect of Parallel and Random-sequential updates on the dynamical properties of flocks in one dimension. Due to the inherent asynchronous nature of the Random-sequential update, the directional switching of the flock is increased compared to the Parallel one. The primary objective of this work is to obtain some sufficient conditions so that normalized Gauss hypergeometric function satisfies exponential starlikeness and convexity in the unit disk. Moreover, conditions on parameter of this function has been derived for being Janowski convexity and starlikeness with the help of differential subordination. Results established in this work are presumably new and their significance is illustrated by several consequences.

Abstract

Current practice in parameter space exploration in euclidean space is dominated by randomized sampling or design of experiment methods. The biggest issue with these methods is not keeping track of what part of parameter space has been explored and what has not. In this context, we utilize the geometric learning of explored data space using modern machine learning methods to keep track of already explored regions and samples from the regions that are unexplored. For this purpose, we use a modified version of a robust random-cut forest along with other heuristic-based approaches. We demonstrate our method and its progression in two-dimensional Euclidean space but it can be extended to any dimension since the underlying method is generic.

Abstract

Active thermography using pulsed heating is a fast and reliable method for detecting flaws in composite and metallic materials. This paper analyzes the temperature decay that occurs immediately after flash heating the front surface of stainless steel specimens as a function of time, based on a novel application of the equivalent circuit approach (ECA). The temperature decay from the front surface is equated to the discharge of a capacitor. The ECA is based on the charging (temperature rise due to flash heating) of a capacitor, followed by its discharge (temperature decay) through a series of resistors (which depends on the conductivity of the material) and capacitance (which depends on the thermal capacitance of the layers) through which the heat is dissipated. The proposed approach analyzes the sequences of temperature data obtained at each pixel location during cooling from a step wedge and a specimen with multiple flat-bottom holes. Time constant maps derived from the analysis are used to ascertain the thickness of the step wedge, detect the flaws, and evaluate the remnant thickness of the flaws. A correlation has been established between the thickness and the time constants. The above approach has been used to estimate the diameter of the flat-bottom holes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The photovoltaic sector needs a high-throughput slicing method that produces minimal waste to meet rising demand. Wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) has emerged as an alternative slicing method in recent research efforts. Polycrystalline silicon is sliced using the WEDM process with a zinc-coated electrode of Ø0.25 mm in diameter. Experiments were planned and conducted according to Box Behnken’s design of experiments. As inputs, seven different process parameters were used: pulse on time (PONT), pulse off time (POFFT), peak current (PC), spark gap voltage (SGV), wire feed (WF), wire tension (WT), and water pressure (WP). Response parameters measured were cutting speed (CS), surface roughness (SR), and kerf width (KW). Various process parameters have also been analyzed with ANOVA methods for predictive modeling. Based on experimental data, this study determines the appropriate optimal solutions via desirability functions. During the WEDM process, the PONT, POFFT, PC, and SGV significantly influence the discharge energy on the sliced surface. As a result of this study, CS of 0.78 mm2/min, SR of 2.87 μm, and KW of 0.70 mm were observed at the optimal settings of PONT of 119 μs, POFFT of 42 μs, PC of 38A, SGV of 36V, WF of 3 mm/min, WT of 2 kg and WP of 6 kg/cm2. Surface morphology was determined using scanning electron microscope and Energy dispersive X-ray to investigate the surface characteristics.

Abstract

HIV, the causative virus of AIDS, has posed a severe threat to global health for an extensiveperiod. Recent statistics show the magnitude of this challenge, with approximately 2.4 million people inIndia living with HIV, along with 41.97 thousand deaths which were reported in 2021. In the face of thisongoing crisis, patients have relied heavily on anti-retroviral therapies, among which Rilpivirine standsout as a key treatment option, particularly for individuals exhibiting low viral loads. However, the efficacyof Rilpivirine diminishes significantly in patientsagainst high viral loads of HIV-1C, leading to theemergence of drug-resistant strains. Consequently, there exists an urgent need to identify and developmore potent therapeutic agents to combat HIV infection. To address this, we performed an in-silicoinvestigation, utilizing virtual screening tools to explore potential alternative drugs to Rilpivirine for HIVtreatment.Our methodology involved mining data from reputable sources such as the PubChemand Zincdatabases to identify compounds with potential antiretroviral activity. We subjected these compounds toscreening using the SwissADME tool, evaluating their pharmacokinetic characteristics and adherence toLipinski's rule of five. Compounds demonstrating favourable properties, as indicated by zero violations inOSIRIS Property Explorer, were then prioritized for further analysis. The structural frameworks ofRilpivirine protein-ligand complexes, both native (7Z2D) and mutant (7Z2E) variants, were procured fromthe Protein Data Bank (PDB). Further, ligand molecules' structural configurations were sourced fromdatabases such as PubChem and Corinasoftware. Employing molecular docking simulations facilitated byHDOCK docking software, the binding affinities of these ligands against the receptor protein-ligandcomplexes were studied, from which, Schumannificine emerged as the most promising candidate,exhibiting the most stable binding interactions.In summation, out of 65 phytochemicals, ourcomprehensive investigation underscores the potential of Schumannificine (CID: 184890), an alkaloidcompound derived from the Schumanniophytonmagnificum plant as a novel and viable therapeutic optionfor HIV patients.These findings hold significant implications for advancing the development of moreefficacious treatments for HIV/AIDS and warrant further experimental validation and clinicalexploration.In silico study has proven to increase the ease of drug discovery, and in vitro and in vivostudies can be further done to completely verify this drug candidature.
