This study delves into the intricate electronic and photophysical properties of copper (II) complexes and their ligands, shedding light on their behavior under varying conditions. UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy unveils significant insights, revealing absorption peaks attributed to ligand–metal charge transfer transitions (LMCT) and π → π* transitions of C = N bonds. The solvent’s polarity dictates the absorption peak positions, indicating a pronounced solvatochromic effect. Molar extinction coefficients underscore the complexes’ high absorption efficiency across different solvents. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations provide a theoretical framework, elucidating electronic transitions observed experimentally. While HL1 exhibits a single peak, HL2 displays two peaks, findings supported by calculated transition energies and oscillator strengths.Moreover, the oxidation processes of copper complexes with iodide salt and triethylamine unveil favorable electron transfer mechanisms, as corroborated by cyclic voltammograms and free energy change values. Photolysis experiments underpin the complexes’ behavior under light irradiation, revealing reversible photoreduction processes and the formation of novel photoproducts. Notably, the addition of triethylamine influences photolysis kinetics, elucidating complex interactions. Furthermore, fluorescence experiments unveil the fluorescent behavior of bidentate copper (II) complexes and their ligands. Fluorescence emission peaks, observed around 475–550 nm for complexes and 400–550 nm for ligands, are influenced by solvent polarity, indicating solvent effects on fluorescence deactivation pathways. Overall, this comprehensive investigation provides valuable insights into the electronic and photophysical characteristics of copper (II) complexes, paving the way for their potential applications in diverse fields, including materials science, catalysis, and photochemistry.

This systematic review and meta-analysis assesses the effectiveness of no or low-dose versus high-dose aspirin on the incidence of coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs), intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) resistance, hospital stay length, and fever duration during the acute phase of Kawasaki disease. Our review adheres to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews guidelines. The PubMed and Google Scholar databases were comprehensively searched to identify relevant studies in the literature, including observational studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The primary outcome was the incidence of CAAs. The secondary outcomes were the hospital stay length, fever duration, and IVIG resistance. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa scale for cohort studies and Cochrane’s Risk of Bias Tool for RCTs. The data were analyzed using the Review Manager software. Twelve studies with a total of 68,495 participants met the inclusion criteria. The incidences of CAAs (odds ratio [OR] = 0.93; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.64–1.34) and IVIG resistance (OR = 1.46; 95% CI = 1.00–2.12) did not differ significantly between no or low-dose versus high-dose aspirin in treating acute KD. Moreover, the fever durations (mean difference [MD] = 3.55 h; 95% CI = −7.99–15.10) and hospital stay lengths (MD = −0.54 days; 95% CI = −2.50–1.41) were similar in the no and low-dose aspirin group compared to the high-dose aspirin group. Our review indicates that there are no significant differences in the incidences of CAA and IVIG resistance, fever durations, and hospital stay lengths between no or low-dose versus high-dose aspirin in treating the acute phase of KD.

Introduction: There is noticeable variability in reporting the prevalence of impacted teeth, which can be attributed to the variability in the age, gender, and type of populations investigated. Materials and Methods: Panoramic radiographs were examined retrospectively for patients who attended dental clinics at King Abdulaziz Medical City and the College of Dentistry at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The sampling frame for the orthodontic population included digital records of 2998 patients randomly selected from an original 8000 patients treated from 2016 to 2022 in the orthodontic clinic. For the general population, 3002 patients were randomly selected from an original 15000 patients treated at the dental college from 2016 to 2022. A tooth was considered impacted if it failed to erupt after two years of the expected complete root formation. Results: The prevalence of at least a single impacted tooth was higher in the orthodontic population (13.2 %) than in the general population (11.2 %). In the healthcare industry, burnout is particularly prevalent. Burnout has received increasing attention from scholars, and different models have also been proposed to address this issue. However, burnout is on the rise in healthcare, especially in developing countries, indicating the need for more research on how to mitigate burnout. Research indicates that internal corporate social responsibility (ICSR) has a significant impact on employee behavior. However, little attention has been paid to exploring how ICSR might effectively reduce healthcare burnout. This study aims to investigate how ICSR and employee burnout are related in the healthcare sector of a developing country. In addition, we tested how subjective well-being and resilience mediate and moderate the effect of ICSR on employee burnout.Methods: Data were collected from 402 healthcare employees working in different hospitals in Pakistan. In our study, we used a self-administered questionnaire as a data collection instrument. We have adapted the items in this survey from reliable and already published sources. Data collection was carried out in three waves.Results: Hypotheses were evaluated using structural equation modeling (SEM). Software such as IBM-SPSS and AMOS were used for this purpose. ICSR significantly reduces healthcare employees’ burnout, according to the results of the structural analysis. The relationship between ICSR and burnout was also found to be mediated by subjective well-being, and resilience moderated the relationship between ICSR and subjective well-being.Findings: In light of our findings, hospitals can take some important steps to resolve the problem of burnout. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between Alexithymia (Alex) and attachment styles, gender, family size, parent's level of education among a randomly selected sample of (392)undergraduate students (136 male, 256 female), at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. To achieve the objectives of this study, the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), which was standardized by Dawoud (2016) and Yarmouk Attachment Scale developed by Abu Ghazal and Jaradat (2009) were applied, after verifying their validity and reliability. The results of the study revealed a significant negative correlations between Alex and secure attachment, while the correlations between Alex and avoidant attachment, and anxious-ambivalent attachment styles were positively significant. Also, there was significant positive correlation between Alex with gender and family size. Finally; no significant correlations were found between Alex with parent's education.

This study aimed to investigate the type of personalities that students had and the relationship between personality type with future anxiety and students' achievement. The sample of the study consisted of 304 students from Tafila Technical University and Al-Hussien Bin Talal University. The researchers used the big five scale which was developed by Costa and McCrae (1992) and adapted by Al-Ansari (1997). The results indicated that the most popular personality trait was conscientiousness and the least one was neuroticism. There was a statistically significant difference in agreeableness personality attributed to gender in favor of female students. Future anxiety level was mid and it was negatively correlated with the extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness and positively correlated with neuroticism. Finally, the result indicated that differences involving achievement were statistically significant in favor of female students, and there was not a statistically significant difference in means of future anxiety attributed to gender.

Background: Breathing control training programs have gained attention due to their potential to influence diagnostic procedures. However, the role of video-based tools to demonstrate breathing maneuvers during sonographic quantification of abdominal organs needs to be studied more. This study explores the impact of a video-based breathing training program on sonographic examination of abdominal organs. Methodology: This quasi-experimental study recruited 49 healthy volunteers at the ultrasound lab of College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in Princess Nourah bint Abdul Rahman University. The study employed a video-based breathing control training program that includes diaphragmatic breathing exercises. Sonographic assessments of abdominal organs were conducted before and after the intervention period using standardized protocols. Data was analyzed using SPSS V 28. Results: The right renal length (p-value < 0.001), thickness (p-value 0.025), and volume measured (p-value < 0.001) were significantly improved following the video training. Similarly, splenic length (p-value 0.015), width (p-value < 0.001), and volume (p-value 0.001). Additionally, the operator time demonstrated a notable decrease from 13.14 ± 3.4 to 8.1 ± 3.5 minutes after the video training intervention (p-value < 0.001). Conclusion: The study provides evidence for the beneficial effects of a video-based breathing control training program on sonographic quantification of abdominal organs. These findings suggest potential clinical utility for integrating video-based breathing interventions into practice, although study limitations require further validation and generalization. Nonetheless, the study highlights the promising role of breathing control training in enhancing the diagnostic accuracy of abdominal sonography. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Ovarian cancer (OC) is considered a leading cause of death among women with gynecological malignancies. OC, like breast cancer, shows a familial predisposition to germline mutations in genes BRCA1 or BRCA2, which have proved to play important roles in the incidence and progression of cancers. In Arab countries there are limited data concerning BRCA1 or BRCA2 founder mutations associated with familial ovarian cancer (FOC). Therefore, the aim of this pilot study was to assess two common founder mutations of BRCA1 (185delAG and 5382insC) in a cohort of Egyptian patients with FOC. The study included fifty female patients with FOC and twenty healthy controls. Clinical, laboratory, and pathological findings were assessed as well as response to therapy. Genetic testing for BRCA1 (185delAG and 5382insC) mutations was performed on peripheral blood samples using a short-fragment sequencer (pyrosequencer). Results The BRCA1 185delAG mutation was not observed in either the FOC patients or the controls. However, the carrier frequency of heterozygous BRCA1 5382insC mutation was 8%. All the FOC patients with a BRCA1 5382insC mutation had a positive family history of cancer (p = 0.009). All carriers of the BRCA1 5382insC mutation showed a preliminary good response to chemotherapy. The majority of carrier patients were diagnosed at an advanced stage of the disease with high-grade tumors and distant metastasis (75% of cases). Conclusion The frequency of the BRCA1 5382insC mutation in FOC patients was 8%. The strong association between the mutation and the positive family history suggests that a wider screening for BRCA1 founder mutations would be valuable in predicting high-risk individuals.

The present article intends to show the positive evaluation of post-graduate university students at a Spanish university after the curricular integration experience and the application of CLIL scaffolding techniques. It also aims to identify areas of methodological improvements and recommendations in the application of CLIL in the referred programme as well as in higher education contexts. The researchers used a cross-sectional study to survey the students' opinion on ICL after the integration of the syllabus of one foreign language subject and another content subject in a post-graduate degree at a private Spanish university in Madrid (Spain). The results point to a positive view of CLIL from Spanish higher education post-graduate students. The survey results also seem to show the students' confidence in CLIL for their English-led classes aids them to simultaneously increase their foreign language acquisition and their nonlinguistic contents learning. However, researches detected certain linguistic scaffolding aspects appear to need further students' training and teachers' methodological adjustments, as they can negatively affect learners' engagement and hence, their learning outcomes. The authors note more research is needed to collect data from a wider population and increase the reliability of the results.

The ability to measure uric acid (UA) non-enzymatically in human blood has been demonstrated through the use of a simple and efficient electrochemical method. A phytochemical extract from radish white peel extract improved the electrocatalytic performance of nickel–cobalt bimetallic oxide (NiCo2O4) during a hydrothermal process through abundant surface holes of oxides, an alteration of morphology, an excellent crystal quality, and increased Co(III) and Ni(II) chemical states. The surface structure, morphology, crystalline quality, and chemical composition were determined using a variety of analytical techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical characterization by CV revealed a linear range of UA from 0.1 mM to 8 mM, with a detection limit of 0.005 mM and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.008 mM. A study of the sensitivity of NiCo2O4 nanostructures modified on the surface to UA detection with amperometry has revealed a linear range from 0.1 mM to 4 mM for detection. High stability, repeatability, and selectivity were associated with the enhanced electrochemical performance of non-enzymatic UA sensing. A significant contribution to the full outperforming sensing characterization can be attributed to the tailoring of surface properties of NiCo2O4 nanostructures. EIS analysis revealed a low charge-transfer resistance of 114,970 Ohms that offered NiCo2O4 nanostructures prepared with 5 mL of radish white peel extract, confirming an enhanced performance of the presented non-enzymatic UA sensor. As well as testing the practicality of the UA sensor, blood samples from human beings were also tested for UA. Due to its high sensitivity, stability, selectivity, repeatability, and simplicity, the developed non-enzymatic UA sensor is ideal for monitoring UA for a wide range of concentrations in biological matrixes.

Background: Occupational hazards among healthcare workers (HCWs) present serious risks, from infectious diseases to physical and chemical dangers, along with psychological stress, all of which threaten their health and safety. This study aims to identify the unique challenges and hazards encountered by radiology technologists in in Saudi Arabia by assessing the key factors contributing to these risks. Methods: A descriptive questionnaire study was conducted in January-February 2023, targeting 75 radiology technologists at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC), Jeddah, with participants recruited via non-probability convenience sampling and invited to complete a widely recognized questionnaire previously used among radiographers. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and the Kruskal–Wallis H-test was conducted to examine the relationships between demographic factors and different aspects of occupational hazards. Results: Of the 75 technologists contacted, 63 responded, resulting in an 84% participation rate. Workload, work shifts, and patient-related factors are major contributors to occupational hazards, surpassing technologist-specific and organizational elements. Additionally, 68.3% cited rigid leadership and unequal treatment as aggravating factors, while insufficient staffing, inadequate protective devices, and patient interaction were also significant concerns. Over 60% identified bending, lifting heavy patients, prolonged radiation exposure, and frequent walking as major hazard sources. Conclusion: Key occupational hazards factors facing radiology technologists include high workloads, work shifts, and patient-related issues, with 68.3% citing rigid leadership and unequal treatment as exacerbating risks. Insufficient staffing and protective devices, along with demanding work conditions, further heighten these hazards. This study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions in staffing, resources, and culture to improve radiology technologists' safety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Despite the enhanced progress in identifying a number of leading causes to fetal miscarriage, still some women suffer from recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) for unknown cause. A hidden genetic influence of coexisting hereditary thrombophilia was assumed to have a role. Aim: The aim was to investigate the association between unexplained RPL and thrombophilic gene variants of angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) (rs4646994) and β -fibrinogen (rs1800790) genes. Settings and Design: The present case–control study was conducted on unexplained RPL in eighty women and eighty matched controls with no history of previous pregnancy loss. Materials and Methods: Analysis of extracted DNA was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Statistical Analysis: The frequency of genotypes and alleles was compared between groups using Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Risk assessment was made by odds ratio (OR) at a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Women with RPL group had higher frequency of DD than controls (47.5%, 31.25%, respectively, P = 0.086). D allele frequency was 0.67 and 0.54 in the control (P = 0.022). D allele carriers were at higher risk of RPL than the control as OR was 1.694 at 95% CI from 1.08 to 2.67. There was no association between the rs1800790 variant of β -fibrinogen gene and RPL. Conclusion: Females who are carriers for D allele of ACE I/D gene polymorphism are more liable to suffer from RPL. Screening for hereditary thrombophilia in females who are planning to conceive and have a history of RPL of unidentified cause is of great value to provide proper management and genetic counseling to high-risk couples.

Higher body mass index (BMI) is associated with various comorbidities. In hemodialysis (HD) patients, BMI affects dialysis adequacy and blood pressure (BP) control and is associated with serious comorbidities. This is a cross-sectional observational study that took place at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. To determine urea accurately in clinical samples, food samples, dairy products, and agricultural samples, a new analytical method is required, and non-enzymatic methods are preferred due to their low cost and ease of use. In this study, bitter gourd peel biomass waste is utilized to modify and structurally transform nickel oxide (NiO) nanostructures during the low-temperature aqueous chemical growth method. As a result of the high concentration of phytochemicals, the surface was highly sensitive to urea oxidation under alkaline conditions of 0.1 M NaOH. We investigated the structure and shape of NiO nanostructures using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In spite of their flake-like morphology and excellent crystal quality, NiO nanostructures exhibited cubic phases. An investigation of the effects of bitter gourd juice demonstrated that a large volume of juice produced thin flakes measuring 100 to 200 nanometers in diameter. We are able to detect urea concentrations between 1–9 mM with a detection limit of 0.02 mM using our urea sensor. Additionally, the stability, reproducibility, repeatability, and selectivity of the sensor were examined. A variety of real samples, including milk, blood, urine, wheat flour, and curd, were used to test the non-enzymatic urea sensors. These real samples demonstrated the potential of the electrode device for measuring urea in a routine manner. It is noteworthy that bitter gourd contains phytochemicals that are capable of altering surfaces and activating catalytic reactions. In this way, new materials can be developed for a wide range of applications, including biomedicine, energy production, and environmental protection.

To cope with environmental pollution caused by toxic emissions into water streams, high-performance photocatalysts based on ZnO semiconductor materials are urgently needed. In this study, ZnO nanostructures are synthesized using leafy spinach extract using a biogenic approach. By using phytochemicals contained in spinach, ZnO nanorods are transformed into large clusters assembled with nanosheets with visible porous structures. Through X-ray diffraction, it has been demonstrated that leafy spinach extract prepared with ZnO is hexagonal in structure. Surface properties of ZnO were altered by using 10 mL, 20 mL, 30 mL, and 40 mL quantities of leafy spinach extract. The size of ZnO crystallites is typically 14 nanometers. In the presence of sunlight, ZnO nanostructures mineralized methylene blue. Studies investigated photocatalyst doses, dye concentrations, pH effects on dye solutions, and scavengers. The ZnO nanostructures prepared with 40 mL of leafy spinach extract outperformed the degradation efficiency of 99.9% for the MB since hydroxyl radicals were primarily responsible for degradation. During degradation, first-order kinetics were observed. Leafy spinach extract could be used to develop novel photocatalysts for the production of solar hydrogen and environmental hydrogen.

The electrochemical performance of NiCo2O4 with urea precursors was evaluated in order to develop a non-enzymatic urea sensor. In this study, NiCo2O4 nanostructures were synthesized hydrothermally at different concentrations of urea and characterized using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Nanostructures of NiCo2O4 exhibit a nanorod-like morphology and a cubic phase crystal structure. Urea can be detected with high sensitivity through NiCo2O4 nanostructures driven by urea precursors under alkaline conditions. A low limit of detection of 0.05 and an analytical range of 0.1 mM to 10 mM urea are provided. The concentration of 006 mM was determined by cyclic voltammetry. Chronoamperometry was used to determine the linear range in the range of 0.1 mM to 8 mM. Several analytical parameters were assessed, including selectivity, stability, and repeatability. NiCo2O4 nanostructures can also be used to detect urea in various biological samples in a practical manner.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), if left untreated, can have major negative effects on health, such as an elevated risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Increasing people's knowledge of this illness might lessen the stigma associated with sleep problems and motivate them to get treatment if they think they might have OSA. Aim of the Study: This study aims to assess the knowledge and awareness of OSA among patients' families in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A phenomenological-oriented study with in-depth interviews was used to collect data from 28 participants. Results: Two themes and subthemes emerged from the interviews, revealing significant knowledge gaps, especially regarding the health risks and management of OSA. Only a few participants were aware of the serious health implications of untreated OSA. Furthermore, many did not know about effective management strategies for OSA. Conclusion: The level of awareness and knowledge among participants was poor, with participants' lifestyles significantly affected by having relatives with OSA. Abstract Background Down syndrome (DS) is a common numerical chromosome disorder that has its burden on both family and community. The well-known risk factor for chromosome 21 nondisjunction is advanced maternal age which failed to explain the occurrence of Down syndrome born to mothers less than 35 years. This study aimed to assess the effect of demographic data (consanguinity, residency area, and socioeconomic state) and chromosome/chromatid breaks as biomarkers for genome integrity on the susceptibility of young mothers to have a child with Down syndrome. Results Fifty mothers with a history of at least one DS pregnancy before the age of 35 were compared to 50 control mothers. There was a significant increase in DS births in consanguineous parents (46%) compared to 20% in non-consanguineous ones (OR = 3.40; 95% CI = 1.4–8.20, P = 0.006). Young mothers with DS children were more likely to be from rural areas (60%) than urban areas (40%) (OR = 2.66; 95%, CI = 1.18–5.98, P = 0.017) and of a low socioeconomic status (62%) rather than a high socioeconomic status (38%) (OR = 3.80; 95%, CI = 1.65–8.74, P = 0.001). Chromosome/chromatid breaks were detected in 76% of DS young mothers and 32% of control mothers (P < 0.001). There was an odds ratio of chromatid breaks of 8.50 (3.411–21.17) and chromosome breaks of 3.93 (1.40–11.05) with significant difference between the studied groups (P < 0.001 and P = 0.009 respectively). Conclusion In addition to advanced maternal age, consanguinity, residency in rural areas, and low socioeconomic status could be considered as possible risk factors for Down syndrome. The high frequency of chromosome/chromatid breaks in young mothers with a previous history of DS children highlights the impact of genome integrity on the tendency to chromosome 21 nondisjunction. These findings are valuable in predicting having a Down syndrome baby and providing proper genetic counseling for high-risk families.

Abstract Background Multiple neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by the abnormal accumulation of FUS protein including various subtypes of frontotemporal lobar degeneration with FUS inclusions (FTLD-FUS). These subtypes include atypical frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions (aFTLD-U), basophilic inclusion body disease (BIBD) and neuronal intermediate filament inclusion disease (NIFID). Despite considerable overlap, certain pathologic features including differences in inclusion morphology, the subcellular localization of inclusions, and the relative paucity of subcortical FUS pathology in aFTLD-U indicate that these three entities represent related but distinct diseases. In this study, we report the clinical and pathologic features of three cases of aFTLD-U and two cases of late-onset BIBD with an emphasis on the anatomic distribution of FUS inclusions. Results The aFTLD-U cases demonstrated FUS inclusions in cerebral cortex, subcortical grey matter and brainstem with a predilection for anterior forebrain and rostral brainstem. In contrast, the distribution of FUS pathology in late-onset BIBD cases demonstrated a predilection for pyramidal and extrapyramidal motor regions with relative sparing of cerebral cortex and limbic regions. Conclusions The topography of FUS pathology in these cases demonstrate the diversity of sporadic FUS inclusion body diseases and raises the possibility that late-onset motor neuron disease with BIBD neuropathology may exhibit unique clinical and pathologic features.

Objectives: To compare vascular scanning parameters (vessel diameter, peak systolic velocity, end-diastolic velocity, and resistive index) and scanning time before and after breathing control training program for selected abdominal vessels. Methods: This study was pre and post quasi-experimental. The researchers designed a breathing training program that gives participants instructions through a video describing breathing maneuvers. Data were collected at the ultrasound laboratory/College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in Princess Nourah bint Abdul Rahman University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from January 2023 to November 2023. About 49 volunteers at the university participated in the study. Scanning was performed two times for the right renal artery, upper abdominal aorta, inferior vena cava, and superior mesenteric artery. Scanning time was measured before and after the program as well. A paired sample t-test was used to compare the parameters means and time before and after the program. Results: The program had a significant effect on the following parameters: right renal artery peak systolic velocity (p=0.042), upper abdominal aortic peak systolic velocity, and resistive index (p=0.014, p=0.014 respectively), superior mesenteric artery and inferior vena cava diameters (p=0.010 and p=0.020). The scanning time was reduced significantly (p<0.001). Conclusion: The breathing training program saves time and improves ultrasound measurement quality. Hospitals and health centers should consider the importance of breathing control training programs before abdominal scanning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
