8. Seasonal variation, source apportionment, and cancer risk assessment of PM2.5-bound phthalates: a case study in Taiyuan, China.

Abstract

Taiyuan in the Shanxi Province of China has experienced significant air pollution from fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the past years. Phthalate esters (PAEs), which are common semi-volatile chemical molecules in PM2.5 and that humans can breathe into their bodies, can have serious health consequences. This study looked at the levels, composition, sources, and incremental lifetime lung cancer risk factors for PM2.5-bound PAEs in Taiyuan. A QuEChERS extraction technique and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry were used to evaluate 16 PAE compounds. All samples contained PAEs, and the overall PAE concentration ranged from 114 to 864 ng/m3. The most often detected compound was bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), and summer PAE concentrations were substantially greater than winter ones. A positive matrix factorization model showed that the main sources of PAE release were the indoor environment, industry source, automobile-related source, and construction source. The places within 300 km of Taiyuan were thought to have a significant impact on PAEs, according to the analysis of the prospective source contribution function. The calculated incremental lifetime lung cancer risk of DEHP exposure was 0.76 cases per million people. More of the risk of lung cancer has been attributed to indoor air pollution (53.2%). These findings will help us understand the features of PAE contamination and offer a solid scientific foundation for minimizing PAE pollution in the Loess Plateau. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

13. Effects of Al powder on the reaction process and reactivity of B/KNO3energetic sticks

Abstract

Boron/potassium nitrate (B/KNO3) is a type of critical energetic composite material (ECM). However, the inert oxide layer on the B surface of B/KNO3hinders the contact between pure fuel and oxidant, thus limiting energy release This limitation could be eliminated by adding highly reactive Al powder. To discern the effects of Al powder size on the reaction process and reactivity of B/KNO3, this study prepared Al/B/KNO3/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) energetic sticks using the direct ink writing (DIW) technology. This study characterized the macroscopic morphology and structure of the energetic sticks using a laser scanning microscope and a scanning electron microscope, examined the reaction process of the composites using a differential scanning calorimeter and a thermogravimetric analyzer, and observed the flame propagation behavior of energetic sticks and energetic architectures using a high-speed camera. Furthermore, it tested the pressure output characteristics of the energetic composites using a closed volume tank. The results show that adding Al powder can improve the combustion efficiency of B/Al composite fuels and reduce the agglomeration of the combustion products. The Al powder with various particle sizes affects various reaction stages of the composite. The combustion and pressure output tests suggest that adding Al powder with a particle size of 1 μm yielded high reactivity and that flame jump propagation appeared in energetic architectures when the channel spacing was below 10 mm. These findings provide a guide for modifying the B/KNO3energetic composites and regulating the reactivity of energetic sticks.

Abstract

Fluorescent materials exhibiting two‐photon induction (TPI) are used for nonlinear optics, bioimaging, and phototherapy. Polymerizations of molecular chromophores to form π‐conjugated structures were hindered by the lack of long‐range ordering in the structure and strong π–π stacking between the chromophores. Reported here is the rational design of a benzothiadiazole‐based covalent organic framework (COF) for promoting TPI and obtaining efficient two‐photon induced fluorescence emissions. Characterization and spectroscopic data revealed that the enhancement in TPI performance is attributed to the donor‐π‐acceptor‐π‐donor configuration and regular intervals of the chromophores, the large π‐conjugation domain, and the long‐range order of COF crystals. The crystalline structure of TPI‐COF attenuates the π–π stacking interactions between the layers, and overcomes aggregation‐caused emission quenching of the chromophores for improving near‐infrared two‐photon induced fluorescence imaging. Abstract

The molecular structures and antioxidant activities of a novel flavonoid-type compound (lespedezaflavonone) from Lespedeza virgata were studied using density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP exchange correlation functional. The optimized geometries of neutral, radical cation, radical, and anion forms of lespedezaflavonone were obtained. Ring A was found to be responsible for the high activity of the flavonoids by an analysis of the character of the frontier molecular orbital, which was consistent with what was observed experimentally. Furthermore, it was noteworthy that ring A' was firstly found to be the important part for the potent antioxidant activity of lespedezaflavonone. To quantify the antioxidant activities, we determined the adiabatic ionization potential (IP, 509.0, 432.2 kJ•mol^(-1) for the neutral and anion forms, respectively), the homolytic O-H bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE, 347.3 kJ•mol^(-1)) for lespedezaflavonone, the adiabatic electron affinity (EA, -620.6 kJ•mol^(-1)) and the H-atom affinity (HA, -487.5 kJ•mol^(-1)) for hydroxyl radical in aqueous solution. Our theoretical analysis shows that H-atom transfer, stepwise electron-transfer-proton-transfer, and sequential proton-loss-electron-transfer mechanisms for lespedezaflavonone to scavenge hydroxyl radical may occur thermodynamically in parallel, while the last process is the most favorable. These findings are helpful for further study on the design of novel efficient flavonoid-type antioxidants, the structure-activity relationship and the antioxidant mechanism of flavonoid-type compounds.

Abstract

As the course of fundamentals of computer pays more attention to the cultivation target of practice ability and the computational thinking ability, we devote to these problems' research as experimental teaching model, teaching contents and teaching method, and reform the innovation practice teaching mode research of the fundamentals of computer in this paper. In the new teaching mode, a new practice teaching system is established based on combined curricular practice teaching with extracurricular innovative work and vinous innovative competition; group practice teaching is established in order to set a pattern of unit and competitive, in which both study and competition can be carried on among groups; the frontier lecture can help expand the student's knowledge. The teaching practice proves that the reformed teaching mode will improve the practice ability, thinking and learning ability of the students, stimulate the student's study initiative to a great degree, and cultivate the students' innovative ability.
