The article focuses on a mobile phone Treo 650. Sprint's been a fan of the Treo since its inception, and its devotion is really paying off with the new Treo 650, which is getting rave reviews from almost every quarter. Along with the keyboard and 640 x 480 pixel digital camera, now it's got Bluetooth wireless connectivity. All is not perfect with the 650 though: There are reports of problems with the Bluetooth hookup in cars, as well as with Bluetooth headsets. The color display is terrific. The touch screen is easier to use than a phone keypad. As usual, the Treo 650 would rather one installed the software before one plugs the phone into its USB 2.0 link to the computer.

The article reports that if there was a theme for 2005 Electronic Entertainment Exposition, it would have been summed up in giant letters on the side of handheld gadget maker Gizmodo's booth. Though Gizmodo's talking about its own device, it's a sentiment echoed by platform makers across the show. The next generation game consoles, whether intended for the living room or backpack, aren't so much game devices as they are multimedia computers that happen to include gaming as a media. Microsoft Corp. claims that it's aiming to reach a billion customers with the new Xbox 360 consoles. The 360 is a lot more than just a game console, bringing virtually every possible form of digital entertainment into the living room and backed by as much talent on the content side as the technical. This year's big buzz of course was the upcoming Xbox 360 gaming console and gaming titles in development for the consoles release.

Though show attendance was estimated at 45k, the massive Ernest Morial Convention center managed to handle the crowd without making these telecom visionaries march quite shoulder to shoulder into the wireless future. In fact it seemed like attendance was down a bit from last year, despite the economic health of the sector, which may be a sign of the industry's maturization, or a conflict of scheduling with CEBIT Germany, the big Euro-Tech show going on at just about the same time. CTIA President, former Republican congressman and NFL Hall of Fame receiver Steve Largent kicks off the opening press reception and Wireless Home showing the night before the show.
