Abstract

This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the rapid decline in fertility and population aging. Using LASSO penalized Poisson regression and TVP-VAR model improved by MCMC algorithm based on Bayesian network, the factors affecting the fertility level and their interrelationships are studied. It is found that fertility and education levels affect each other with probabilities of 0.0806 and 0.0825 respectively at 10% significance level. The positive shock of social security level on fertility level increases the response value of fertility level from −1.5 to about 7.5 in 10 lags, showing a positive effect. In contrast, the response of fertility level to house prices gradually decreases from 5 in period 1 to −2.5 in period 10, indicating a negative impact. These analyses provide a scientific basis for constructing a public service fertility support system that can help mitigate the current challenges of low fertility levels.

Abstract

This study attempts to determine whether there is a spatial correlation between electricity generation and economic scale promoting coordinated development in Africa. We explore the spatial similarity and gray correlation degree between electricity generation and economic scale in Africa since the 21st century by adopting barycenter coupling and Gray Correlation Analysis method. We argue that there is a strong correlation between electricity generation and economic scale. Our findings indicate a significant spatial difference in electricity generation, mainly concentrated in Northern and Southern Africa. Furthermore, spatial pattern remains largely consistent over time, mirroring trends observed at the economic scale. Electricity generation and economic scale were concentrated in six countries- South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, and Libya- and did not change significantly over time. A correlation analysis between electricity generation and the economic scale further confirmed this, with a linear coefficient of 0.907. Both the gravity centers of economic scale and electricity generation in Africa move farther in the north-south direction than in the East-West direction, with the former showing a Southwest-Northeast-Southwest track feature and the latter a Northeast-Southwest track feature. The spatial distribution of the gravity centers of electricity generation and the gravity centers of the economic scale in Africa are highly consistent; electricity generation highly correlates with the economic scale, consistent with the research conclusion obtained by the Gray Correlation Analysis method. Abstract

The axoneme and accessory structures of flagella are critical for sperm motility and male fertilization. Sperm production needs precise and highly ordered gene expression to initiate and sustain the many cellular processes that result in mature spermatozoa. Here, we identified a testis enriched gene transmembrane protein 232 (Tmem232), which is essential for the structural integrity of the spermatozoa flagella axoneme. Tmem232 knockout mice were generated for in vivo analyses of its functions in spermatogenesis. Phenotypic analysis showed that deletion of Tmem232 in mice causes male-specific infertility. Transmission electron microscopy together with scanning electron microscopy were applied to analyze the spermatozoa flagella and it was observed that the lack of TMEM232 caused failure of the cytoplasm removal and the absence of the 7th outer microtubule doublet with its corresponding outer dense fiber (ODF). Co-IP assays further identified that TMEM232 interacts with ODF family protein ODF1, which is essential to maintain sperm motility. In conclusion, our findings indicate that TMEM232 is a critical protein for male fertility and sperm motility by regulating sperm cytoplasm removal and maintaining axoneme integrity.

39. Investigating the Residual Polarimetric Distortion and Removing the Low-Quality Area of Chandrayaan-2 Dual-Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar Full-Polarization Images

Abstract

The dual-frequency synthetic aperture radar (DFSAR) in lunar orbit, using L- and S-bands, is the only full-polarization (FP) SAR. It explores different layers of the moon, relying on the unusual rotational symmetry for polarimetric calibration. Addressing prior issues in polarimetric evaluation, this study tackles the challenges of an expanding dataset (now exceeding 900 scenes) and the necessity to evaluate polarimetric distortion (PD) values in the range direction. A novel polarimetric evaluation framework is introduced, enhancing existing methods. First, a scheme is proposed to eliminate low-quality areas in the range direction based on antenna isolation specifications, validated theoretically with simulated and real data. Second, more than 900 DFSAR scenes, downloaded prior to April 25, 2023, are utilized for evaluation, surpassing previous limitations and enhancing accessibility for users. By evaluating the L-band data, the image calibration results acquired by DFSAR between September 19, 2019, and December 4, 2020, have high accuracy and can be prioritized for lunar applications. In addition, we recommend that researchers pay attention to the issue of changing data quality for releases around March 2021. The amount of data in the S-band with the L–S-joint mode is small, and we provide the availability results directly. Third, the study applies the evaluated results to lunar polarization research, contributing to lunar exploration through polarimetric parameters. This comprehensive framework ensures accurate data utilization, addressing the evolving needs of lunar exploration with improved methodologies and expanded datasets.
