Abstract The Himalayas, globally acknowledged as one of the four biodiversity hotspots, underscore their ecological significance, boasting abundant flora and fauna. Among these, a diverse array of wild fruits such as Aegle marmelos, Artocarpus lakoocha, Baccaurea spp., Carissa spp., and others provide essential nutrition for local populations. These fruits, rich in bioactive compounds, offer nutraceutical potential, contributing to health aspects like antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. The integration of Himalayan wild fruits into circular practices supports sustainable livelihoods. The responsible harvesting, efficient processing, and value addition of these fruits align with circular principles, striking a balance between conservation and progress. Technologies such as anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy conversion, and composting can harness waste generated during cultivation and processing, contributing to a circular economy and rural Himalayan community development. Preserving, accessing, and commercializing underutilized fruits can significantly enhance economic prosperity and the quality of life for inhabitants. However, integrating these fruits into agriculture faces multifaceted challenges, spanning social, economic, environmental, agronomic, and political dimensions. Addressing these challenges is crucial for sustainable development, aiming to eradicate poverty, malnutrition, and hidden hunger. Moreover, addressing these challenges is not only vital for sustainable development in the Himalayan region but also for mitigating carbon footprints and tackling issues like poverty, malnutrition, hidden hunger, and climate change. Abstract In winter, the paddy residues become wet during morning and late evening due to dew, which restricts the operation of sowing machines (Happy Seeder and Super Seeder) into paddy residues, as wet residues do not slide on furrow openers/tines. A PAU Smart Seeder (PSS) was developed and evaluated for a four-wheel tractor that can sow wheat with optimum crop establishment in combined harvested rice fields. The PSS were evaluated for its performance under varying straw load, forward speed, and rotor speed in terms of fuel consumption, field capacity, seed emergence, and grain yield. The crop establishment and wheat yield of PSS was also compared with the existing straw management machines Happy Seeder (HS) and Super Seeder (SS) under heavy paddy residue conditions. The effect of the straw load was more pronounced on dependent variables than the effect of the speed index. PSS performance was best at a forward speed of 2.6 km h−1, rotor speed of 127.5 rpm, and a straw load of 6 t ha−1. Average fuel consumption using PSS was lower than SS but higher than HS. Wheat emergence was higher by 15.6 and 25.7% on the PSS plots compared to HS and SS, respectively. Average wheat grain yield in PSS plots was significantly higher by 12.7 and 18.9% than SS and HS, respectively in one experiment, while the grain yield was similar for both PSS and HS in other experiments. PSS has a novel mechanism to manage paddy straw and simultaneously sow wheat into a heavy straw load (> 8 t ha−1) mixture of anchored and loose straw. In conclusion, PSS showed promise for in-situ management of rice straw as it eliminates most of the operational problems encountered by the existing seeders (HS and SS).

Consumption of garlic leads to the persistence of “garlic breath” due to the presence of malodorous sulfur volatiles which may persist for as long as 24 h. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of yogurt and its components on the deodorization of garlic sulfur volatiles in breath and study the roles of these components in deodorization. Raw garlic was consumed with different treatments and at different times for breath analysis. Different components were mixed with the garlic for headspace analysis. Volatiles were measured using selected-ion flow-tube mass spectrometry. Consuming yogurt at the same time as garlic was more effective than consuming it before or after. Yogurt was the most effective at deodorization, followed by the emulsion, then protein or fat alone. Decreasing the pH of protein solutions increased deodorization because changes to the structure of the proteins exposed more binding sites for the volatiles, while decreasing the pH of water or fat had no effect on deodorization. Whey protein deodorized better than casein due to the presence of more cysteine binding sites for volatiles. This study proposes that the fat, protein, microbial culture, and water in yogurt have synergistic effects on the deodorization of garlic volatiles. This study’s findings can help in the development of novel products targeting sulfur volatiles, with broad applications for mitigating malodors produced by garlic.

Abstract Background To explore the associations between anxiety and depression symptoms and academic burnout among children and adolescents in China, and to examine the role of resilience and self-efficacy in addressing academic burnout. Methods A total of 2,070 students in grades 4–8 were recruited from two primary and three middle schools in Shanghai, completed the Elementary School Student Burnout Scale (ESSBS), the Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children-Chinese (MASC-C), the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), with 95.04% effective response rate. Introduction India has unique tobacco-free film and TV rules designed to prevent tobacco uptake. In this study, we examined the potential influence of exposure to smoking imagery in regionally famous films, on susceptibility to smoke in teenagers enrolled in schools in a district in Southern India. Methods A longitudinal survey of students, in grades 6 to 8 at baseline in 2017 and grades 7 to 9 one year later in 2018, ascertained prospective incident susceptibility to smoking during the study period in relation to baseline exposure to 27 locally popular films with actual or implied smoking imagery. Results We analyzed linked data from 33676 participants, and 3973 (11.8%) of the adolescents reported incident susceptibility. Background: Many studies have shown the beneficial effect of prophylactic lidocaine or esmolol on hemodynamic response during laryngoscopic intubation. Although many studies observed a better effect of esmolol over lidocaine, some studies have drawn an impression of equal efficacy or even no benefit with the use of either of the drugs. Aims and Objectives: The study aimed to compare the heart rate (HR) at 1 min after intubation between the patients receiving lidocaine and esmolol. Other outcome measures were to compare HR at 3 and 5 min post-intubation and to compare the mean arterial pressure at 1, 3, and 5 min after intubation. In addition, the adverse events, if any, were noted. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients, 30–45 years, either sex, Mallampati grade 1–2, of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I-II, posted for elective abdominal surgery requiring direct laryngoscopic endotracheal intubation were included. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups to receive esmolol 2 mg/kg (Group E, n=25) or 2% lidocaine 2 mg/kg (Group L, n=25), intravenously. HR and mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) were recorded at 1-, 3-, and 5-min interval post-intubation. Results: The mean HR at 1-min post-intubation was considerably lower using esmolol in comparison with lidocaine (91.7±9.7 vs. 107.7±5.1, P≤0.0001). The mean HR and MAP at 3-min and 5-min post-intubation were considerably lower with the use of esmolol compared with lidocaine. Conclusion: Esmolol is better than lidocaine in attenuating the hemodynamic response of intubation.

The present study investigates S. cumini seed extracts which are considered as a promising and valuable source of bioactive compounds were prepared using different solvents such as methanol, ethanol, petroleum ether, acetone, chloroform, and diethyl ether. Among these solvents, methanol exhibited the highest extraction with a yield of 42 %. HPLC analysis revealed the highest concentration of quercetin flavonoids (49.62 mg/gm) in the methanolic S. cumini seed extract. Thus, the current work deals with the MgONPs synthesis through a biological approach using different S. cumini seed extracts. In vitro anti-oxidant properties were evaluated, which showed an IC50 value of 22.46 μg/mL for MgONPs synthesized from methanolic extract, surpassing the anti-oxidant potency of ascorbic acid by threefold. By leveraging the rich repository of bioactive compounds found within S. cumini seed extract, this study presents a novel approach to MgONPs synthesis. Exploring the symbiotic relationship between S. cumini seed extract and MgONPs, this research elucidates the pivotal role of bioactive compounds in guiding the formation and properties of nanostructures. Further anti-microbial studies on MgONPs from methanolic S. cumini seed extract were conducted against four different bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and S. typhimurium), revealing potent anti-microbial activity with 5.3 mm of inhibition for 100 µl against S. typhimurium. These findings suggest that S. cumini is a source of bioactive compounds responsible for the successful synthesis of MgONPs. Characterization studies of MgONPs were also carried out using UV–vis spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, XRD, DSC and HPLC.

Background and hypothesis: Frailty has emerged as an important factor in the pre-transplant evaluation process as studies have shown that it is associated with increased waitlist mortality, lower rates of transplant listing, and higher rates of delisting. There have not been many studies on frailty in elderly pre-transplant patients. In this study, we determined the common frailty phenotypes in an elderly population, and its effects on transplant success. Methods: Over a 3-year period, frailty was determined for all patients evaluated at our center. Patient characteristics were summarized using descriptive statistics, overall and by level of frailty. Differences in patient characteristics by level of frailty were assessed for statistical significance using analysis of variance for age and chi-square or Fisher's exact test. Transplant outcomes such as listing success, transplant rates and post-transplant outcomes were tied to initial frailty assessments as well as the changes in frailty over time. Results: A total of 375 patients were evaluated over the study period. The mean age was 64±9 years. African American patients were less likely to be frail. After adjusting for age and race, the most significant predictors of listing were the walk test (aOR: 0.42, 95 % CI: 0.22–0.79) and physical activity (aOR: 0.45, 95 % CI: 0.28–0.74). A total of 30 patients (8 %) with a pre-listing frailty evaluation died prior to transplantation. Frail walk test and physical activity assessment led to a 2-fold increase in pre-transplant mortality (7 % vs 17 %; 6 % vs 13 %). Conclusion: Our study is the first to focus on a purely geriatric population and shows the importance of frailty on listing success, transplant rates and mortality prior to listing. These data point to the need for the development of tools to target frailty as a guide for improving transplant success in elderly patients.

Background: Trace metal deficiency has become a major constraint on the productivity and sustainability of soils. Agriculture becomes more complex, advanced and intensive farming systems develop, however, the deficiency of trace metal are more frequent and extensive in different systems. Methods: This study investigated the variation of trace metal minerals in soil profiles of diverse land use systems (LUSs), i.e. agriculture, horticulture and forestry, falling under three dominant soil orders (Entisol, Inceptisol and Aridisol) in Malwa region of Punjab. Through comprehensive analyses, we explore the intricate relationships between soil characteristics, land use practices, and the distribution of key trace metals—namely zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). Results: The mean values of DTPA-extractable trace metal from soil profiles of different land uses varied from 1.75 to 2.09, 1.64–2.32, 1.18–1.69 mg kg−1 for Zn; 0.59–1.02, 0.59–0.99, 0.64–0.92 mg kg−1 for Cu; 12.12–16.49, 9.84–16.05, 7.94–11.56 mg kg−1 for Fe; 7.82–9.99, 4.66–9.39, 6.51–7.46 mg kg−1for Mn in soil orders Entisol, Inceptisol and Aridisol, respectively. The concentration of trace metals in different soil orders follows the pattern of ntisol>Inceptisol>Aridisol. In contrast, there is a considerable amount of variation and no discernible pattern in the distribution of trace metals under various LUSs in each soil order. Several LUSs were examined, and agriculture land use system (ALUS) had the greatest Fe and Mn content, while the horticulture land use system (HLUS) had the highest Zn and Cu content. The Irrespective of soil orders and LUSs, the concentration of trace metals decreased as soil depth increased. Diverse LUSs and management practices have a substantial impact on the physico-chemical characteristics of soils, which in turn influence the availability of trace metals. According to the Pearson correlation studies, trace metals were positively associated with soil OC and negatively associated with soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and there was also a positive correlation between DTPA-Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mn in the investigated soils. The results of the principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that soil CaCO3 and organic carbon (OC) content were the most variable soil parameters influencing crop trace metal availability in different soil orders and land use systems. Conclusion: The findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of the dynamic interplay between soil properties and land use, providing valuable insights for sustainable agricultural practices and environmental management in the region.

Porous scaffolds have evolved, allowing personalised 3D-printed structures that can improve tissue reconstruction. By using scaffolds with specific porosity, Poisson's ratio and stiffness, load-bearing tissues such as tibial reconstruction can be improved. Recent studies suggest the potential for negative Poisson's ratio (−υ) meta-scaffolds in mimicking the behaviour of natural tissue, leading to improved healing and tissue reintegration. This study reveals a porous meta-scaffold that offers high −υ and can be personalised to match desired stiffness. By using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) of CoCrMo, a porous structure was created, characterised by its ability to achieve heightened −υ. Prototype testing and numerical modelling unveiled a proxy-model capable of predicting and personalising the porosity, yield strength, elastic modulus, and −υ of the tibial meta-scaffold representing a novel contribution to the field. The surrogate model also aids characterising the impact of design variables such as of the scaffold on the key performance requirements of the tibial scaffold. This approach enables the fabrication of porous biomaterials with personalised properties, specifically suited for load-bearing tibial reconstruction. The resulting meta-scaffold offers −υ ranging from -0.16 to -0.38, porosity between 73.46% and 85.36%, yield strength of 30–80 MPa, and elastic modulus ranging from 8.6 to 22.6 GPa. The optimised architecture feature −υ of 0.223 and a targeted elastic modulus of 17.53 GPa, while also showcasing yield strength and porosity of 57.2 MPa and 76.35%, respectively. By combining 3D printing with tailored scaffolds, this study opens doors to mass customisation of improved load-bearing porous biomaterials that of negative Poisson's ratio and stiffness matching.

ABSTRACT: Transfer of Salmonella to internal organs of broilers over a 35 d grow-out period was evaluated. A total of 360 one-day old chicks were placed in 18 floor pens of 3 groups with 6 replicate pens each. On d 0, broilers were orally challenged with a cocktail of Salmonella (equal population of marked serovars; nalidixic acid-resistant S. Typhimurium, rifampicin-resistant S. Infantis, and kanamycin-resistant S. Reading) to have 3 groups: L (low; ∼2 log CFU/bird); M (medium; ∼5 log CFU/bird); and H (High; ∼8 log CFU/bird). On d 2, 7 and 35, 4 birds/pen were euthanized and ceca, liver, and spleen samples were collected aseptically. Gizzard samples (4/pen) were collected on d 35. The concentration of Salmonella in liver and spleen were transformed to binary outcomes (positive and negative) and fitted in glm function of R using cecal Salmonella concentrations (log CFU/g) and inoculation doses (L, M, and H) as inputs. On d 2, H group showed greater (P ≤ 0.05) cecal colonization of all 3 serovars compared to L and M groups. However, M group showed greater (P ≤ 0.05) colonization of all 3 serovars in the liver and spleen compared to L group. Salmonella colonization increased linearly in the ceca and quadratically in the liver and spleen with increasing challenge dose (P ≤ 0.05). On d 35, L group had greater (P ≤ 0.05) S. Infantis colonization in the ceca and liver compared to M and H groups (P ≤ 0.05). Moreover, within each group on d 35, the concentration of S. Reading was greater than those of S. Typhimurium and S. Infantis for all 3 doses in the ceca and high dose in the liver and gizzard (P ≤ 0.05). Salmonella colonization diminished in the ceca, liver, and spleen during grow-out from d 0 to d 35 (P ≤ 0.05). On d 35, birds challenged with different doses of Salmonella cocktail showed a similar total Salmonella spp. population in the ceca (ca. 3.14 log CFU/g), liver (ca. 0.54 log CFU/g), spleen (ca. 0.31 log CFU/g), and gizzard (ca. 0.42 log CFU/g). Estimates from the fitted logistic model showed that one log CFU/g increase in cecal Salmonella concentration will result in an increase in relative risk of liver and spleen being Salmonella-positive by 4.02 and 3.40 times (P ≤ 0.01), respectively. Broilers from H or M group had a lower risk (28 and 23%) of being Salmonella-positive in the liver compared to the L group when the cecal Salmonella concentration is the same (P ≤ 0.05). Oral challenge of broilers with Salmonella spp. with various doses resulted in linear or quadratic increases in Salmonella colonization in the internal organs during early age and these populations decreased during grow-out (d 35). This research can provide guidance on practices to effectively mitigate the risk of Salmonella from chicken parts and enhance public health.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcome of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections and panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) in fovea involving preretinal hemorrhage (PRH) secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Methods: Retrospective non-comparative cross-sectional series of patients diagnosed with fovea involving PRH secondary to PDR at our institute from March 2019 to October 2021 who were treated with combination treatments of intravitreal anti-VEGF and PRP and have completed a minimum 6-month follow-up. The primary outcome measure was serial changes in the visual acuity (VA) and PRH regression from the fovea. Secondary outcome measures were the quantitative assessment of the size of PRH, its association with VA improvement and time to regression, and the proportion of patients who underwent surgery for poor response. Results: In total, 22 eyes of 21 patients showed regression of PRH from the foveal center at 33.6 days, and complete regression was seen at 140.7 days. The average number of anti-VEGF injections required for clearance of PRH from the fovea was 1.6. Mean LogMAR visual acuity improved from 0.54 at baseline to 0.32 at 4 weeks and 0.18 at 6 months (P < 0.01). Three eyes (13.6%) required vitrectomy surgery during follow-up. The mean area of PRH as measured by Image J analysis was 14.78 mm2 at baseline, 8.97 mm2 at 4 weeks, and 1.25 mm2 at 3 months (P < 0.01). No statistically significant difference was seen between the size of PRH and PRH clearance time and VA improvement. No systemic side effects were observed following the intravitreal injections during follow-up. Conclusion: Intravitreal anti-VEGF injections and PRP were found to be effective and safe treatment methods for fovea involving PRH secondary to PDR. Long-term studies are warranted to assess the long-term efficacy.

Abstract Resection and whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) are standard treatments for brain metastases (BM) but are associated with cognitive side effects. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) uses a targeted approach with less side effects than WBRT. SRS requires precise identification and delineation of BM. While artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have been developed for this, their clinical adoption is limited due to poor model performance in the clinical setting. The limitations of algorithms are often due to the quality of datasets used for training the AI network. The purpose of this study was to create a large, heterogenous, annotated BM dataset for training and validation of AI models. We present a BM dataset of 200 patients with pretreatment T1, T1 post-contrast, T2, and FLAIR MR images. The dataset includes contrast-enhancing and necrotic 3D segmentations on T1 post-contrast and peritumoral edema 3D segmentations on FLAIR. Our dataset contains 975 contrast-enhancing lesions, many of which are sub centimeter, along with clinical and imaging information. We used a streamlined approach to database-building through a PACS-integrated segmentation workflow.

Abstract A transparent polarisation-sensitive phase pattern changes the phase of transmitted light without absorption, whereas this change of phase depends on the polarisation of incident light. A position-localised polarisation-dependent phase pattern is imprinted onto the phase-space of atoms by using atomic state dependent velocity-selective hole burning. A phase-space localised pattern is a higher dimensional generalisation of patterns localised in the position-space. Such a pattern cannot be imaged with a lens. The imprinted pattern is localised in a unique three-dimensional subspace of the six-dimensional phase-space of atoms. The phase-space localised pattern transforms the polarisation of light transmitting through it. This pattern is tomographically imaged at room temperature by measuring the intensity of the transmitted imaging laser beam of variable frequency with a camera after its polarisation analysis. Two sub-tomographs of the imprinted phase-space localised pattern are constructed. This paper presents a concept and experiment of imprinting and imaging of a polarisation-sensitive phase pattern localised in the phase-space.

Abstract Recent advancements in signal processing and computational power have revolutionized computer vision applications in diverse industries such as agriculture, food processing, biomedical, and the military. These developments are propelling efforts to automate processes and enhance efficiency. Notably, computational techniques are replacing labor-intensive manual methods for assessing the maturity indices of fruits and vegetables during critical growth stages. This review paper focuses on recent advancements in computer vision techniques specifically applied to determine the maturity indices of fruits and vegetables within the food processing sector. It highlights successful applications of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR), thermal imaging, and image scanning. By examining these techniques, their underlying principles, and practical feasibility, it offers valuable insights into their effectiveness and potential widespread adoption. Additionally, integrating biosensors and AI techniques further improves accuracy and efficiency in maturity index determination. In summary, this review underscores the significant role of computational techniques in advancing maturity index assessment and provides insights into their principles and effective utilization. Looking ahead, the future of computer vision techniques holds immense potential. Collaborative efforts among experts from various fields will be crucial to address challenges, ensure standardization, and safeguard data privacy. Abstract Background Frailty is a state of increased vulnerability from physical, social, and cognitive factors resulting in greater risk of negative health-related outcomes and increased healthcare expenditure. A 36-factor electronic frailty index (eFI) developed in the United Kingdom calculates frailty scores using electronic medical record data. There is currently no standardization of frailty screening in Canadian primary care. In order to implement the eFI in a Canadian context, adaptation of the tool is necessary because frailty is represented by different clinical terminologies in the UK and Canada. In considering the promise of implementing an eFI in British Columbia, Canada, we first looked at the content validation of the 36-factor eFI. Our research question was: Does the eFI represent frailty from the perspectives of primary care clinicians and older adults in British Columbia? Methods A modified Delphi using three rounds of questionnaires with a panel of 23 experts (five family physicians, five nurse practitioners, five nurses, four allied health professionals, four older adults) reviewed and provided feedback on the 36-factor eFI. These professional groups were chosen because they closely work as interprofessional teams within primary care settings with older adults. Older adults provide real life context and experiences. Questionnaires involved rating the importance of each frailty factor on a 0–10 scale and providing rationale for ratings. Panelists were also given the opportunity to suggest additional factors that ought to be included in the screening tool. Suggested factors were similarly rated in two Delphi rounds. Results Thirty-three of the 36 eFI factors achieved consensus (> 80% of panelists provided a rating of ≥ 8). Factors that did not achieve consensus were hypertension, thyroid disorder and peptic ulcer. These factors were perceived as easily treatable or manageable and/or not considered reflective of frailty on their own. Additional factors suggested by panelists that achieved consensus included: cancer, challenges to healthcare access, chronic pain, communication challenges, fecal incontinence, food insecurity, liver failure/cirrhosis, mental health challenges, medication noncompliance, poverty/financial difficulties, race/ethnic disparity, sedentary/low activity levels, and substance use/misuse. There was a 100% retention rate in each of the three Delphi rounds. Conclusions and next steps Three key findings emerged from this study: the conceptualization of frailty varied across participants, identification of frailty in community/primary care remains challenging, and social determinants of health affect clinicians’ assessments and perceptions of frailty status. This study will inform the next phase of a broader mixed-method sequential study to build a frailty screening tool that could ultimately become a standard of practice for frailty screening in Canadian primary care. Early detection of frailty can help tailor decision making, frame discussions about goals of care, prevent advancement on the frailty trajectory, and ultimately decrease health expenditures, leading to improved patient and system level outcomes.

Simulation refers to the replication of various elements of a real-world situation to achieve pre-specified objectives by enabling experiential learning. As the global burden of preventable medical errors remains high, simulation-based teaching may be used to standardise medical training and improve patient safety. With the same intent, the National Medical Commission has adopted simulation as part of the Competency Based Medical Education approach. Simulation-based training creates immersive and experiential learning, which keeps the new generation of learners actively involved in the learning process. Simulation is widely used to impart technical and non-technical skills for postgraduate trainees in anaesthesiology, but it is still not integrated as a structured part of the curriculum. This article aims to identify technical and non-technical skills that can be taught using simulation and suggests opportunities for using the existing infrastructure and resources to integrate simulation as part of the anaesthesiology training curriculum.

Rhyacophila masudi sp. nov. from Northwest Himalaya of India is described and illustrated. The species mostly occurs in the Pir Panjal Region of Jammu and Kashmir, India. With this new addition, the genus Rhyacophila is represented by 166 valid species from India.

Families of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities or differences (NDDs) often struggle to find reliable health information on the web. NDDs encompass various conditions affecting up to 14% of children in high-income countries, and most individuals present with complex phenotypes and related conditions. It is challenging for their families to develop literacy solely by searching information on the internet. While in-person coaching can enhance care, it is only available to a minority of those with NDDs. Chatbots, or computer programs that simulate conversation, have emerged in the commercial sector as useful tools for answering questions, but their use in health care remains limited. To address this challenge, the researchers developed a chatbot named CAMI (Coaching Assistant for Medical/Health Information) that can provide information about trusted resources covering core knowledge and services relevant to families of individuals with NDDs. The chatbot was developed, in collaboration with individuals with lived experience, to provide information about trusted resources covering core knowledge and services that may be of interest. The developers used the Django framework (Django Software Foundation) for the development and used a knowledge graph to depict the key entities in NDDs and their relationships to allow the chatbot to suggest web resources that may be related to the user queries. To identify NDD domain–specific entities from user input, a combination of standard sources (the Unified Medical Language System) and other entities were used which were identified by health professionals as well as collaborators. Although most entities were identified in the text, some were not captured in the system and therefore went undetected. Nonetheless, the chatbot was able to provide resources addressing most user queries related to NDDs. The researchers found that enriching the vocabulary with synonyms and lay language terms for specific subdomains enhanced entity detection. By using a data set of numerous individuals with NDDs, the researchers developed a knowledge graph that established meaningful connections between entities, allowing the chatbot to present related symptoms, diagnoses, and resources. To the researchers’ knowledge, CAMI is the first chatbot to provide resources related to NDDs. Our work highlighted the importance of engaging end users to supplement standard generic ontologies to named entities for language recognition. It also demonstrates that complex medical and health-related information can be integrated using knowledge graphs and leveraging existing large datasets. This has multiple implications: generalizability to other health domains as well as reducing the need for experts and optimizing their input while keeping health care professionals in the loop. The researchers' work also shows how health and computer science domains need to collaborate to achieve the granularity needed to make chatbots truly useful and impactful.

Marine algae are thought to be a source of various metabolites that have a wide range of positive effects on human health. The pharmacological properties of algal metabolites, including their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol homeostasis, protein clearance, and anti-amyloidergic effects, lend credence to their protective efficacy against oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and impaired proteostasis, all of which are involved in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders. There are currently no clinical trials on the effects of marine algae on neuroinflammation; however, considering the significant biological activities that have been established by in vitro and animal research, we expect that there will be clinical trials on this topic in the not-too-distant future. The most recent and important findings on the potentially neuroprotective effects of the anti-inflammatory properties of marine algae were chosen for this study. Next, we conducted a literature review on the neuroprotective potential of algal compounds, along with the underlying pharmacological mechanism, and finally, we evaluated recent advances in therapeutics.

ABSTRACT: Salmonella and Campylobacter are common bacterial hazards causing foodborne illnesses worldwide. A large proportion of Salmonella and Campylobacter illnesses are attributed to contaminated poultry products that are mishandled or under cooked. Processing interventions such as chilling and post-chill dip are critical to reducing microbial contamination of poultry. A comprehensive search of the literature published between 2000 and 2021 was conducted in the databases Web of Science, Academic Search Complete, and Academic OneFile. Studies were included if they were in English and investigated the effects of interventions against Salmonella and/or Campylobacter on whole carcasses and/or parts during the chilling or post-chill stages of poultry processing. Random-effects meta-analyses were performed using the “meta” package in the R programming language. Subgroup analyses were assessed according to outcome measure reported, microorganism tested, processing stage assessed, and chemical treatment used. The results included 41 eligible studies. Eighteen studies reported results of 28 separate interventions against Salmonella and 31 reported results of 50 separate interventions against Campylobacter. No significant difference (P> 0.05) was observed when comparing the combined mean difference of all interventions targeting Salmonella to the combined mean difference of all interventions targeting Campylobacter or when comparing chilling times within each pathogen subgroup. For analyses examining antimicrobial additives, peroxyacetic acid (PAA) had the largest reduction against Salmonella population regardless of chilling time (P< 0.05). PAA also had the largest reduction against Campylobacter population and prevalence during primary chilling (P< 0.01). Air chilling showed a lower reduction for Campylobacter than any immersion chilling intervention (P< 0.05). Chilling time and antimicrobial used during poultry processing had varying effects depending on the pathogen and outcome measure investigated (concentration or prevalence). High heterogeneity and low sample numbers in most analyses suggest that more high-quality research that is well-designed and has transparent reporting of methodology and results is needed to corroborate the results.

Objective: This research assessed the efficiencies of aloe vera, 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide, and 5% amlexanox in the management of OLP. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 participants diagnosed with oral lichen planus (OLP) were equally divided into three groups and treated with: aloe vera, (Group A), 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide (Group B), and 5% amlexanox (Group C) topical medicaments. The patients were evaluated for pain, using the visual analogue scale (VAS). They were also evaluated for ulcerative lesion type and erosive area on days 1, 7, and 15 of the study. Results: There was a statistically considerable decrease in the VAS pain scale score, reduction in the erosive area on buccal mucosa, and healing of ulcer from day 1st to 15th day with all three tested drugs. Conclusion: All drugs used in this study; aloe vera, triamcinolone acetonide, and amlexanox were effective in treating OLP patients.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of ZOE-based, calcium hydroxide, and epoxy resin-based sealers on modification with three herbal extracts. Materials and Methods: Methanolic extracts of selected herbs were combined with ZOE-based, calcium hydroxide, and epoxy resin-based sealers. Cultures were prepared from E. faecalis and C. albicans and agar plates prepared. Prepared mixtures were inoculated in punched holes, and inhibitory zones were measured. Results: No statistical significance was obtained on comparing mean scores of test groups. Conclusion: None of the combinations used was found to be significantly better than others.

Introduction: Numerous manufacturers have improved bracket retention systems as a result of the frequent bond failure that occurs during orthodontic treatment. One of the elements affecting the adhesive's bond strength is the bracket retention mechanism. Objectives: This study's objective was to assess how various bracket base retention characters affected shear bond strength. Materials and Methods: Four distinct base features for brackets were evaluated. The basic design was examined using a scanning electron microscope. On the Universal testing equipment, brackets were glued to human teeth and then released. Results: The findings indicate that the polymer-coated base's overall mean SBS, which had a mean value of 21.64 ± 4.14 MPa, was considerably greater than that of the other brackets (P 0.05). The foil meshpad, photochemically etched base, and laser-structured base had mean SBS values of 15.12 ± 5.75 MPa, 16.86 ± 3.76 MPa, and 19.32 ± 4.23MPa, respectively. Conclusions: Following laser-structured base and photochemically etched base brackets in terms of shear bond strength were polymer-coated base brackets. The shear bond strength was the lowest in the plain foil mesh pads.

Objectives: The goal of the current study was to assess the effectiveness of a commercially available herbal mouthwash with chlorhexidine on the number of Streptococcus mutans in the saliva, the condition of the gingival tissue, and plaque development. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two adults in all, ranging in age from 20 to 30, were divided into two groups at random. Throughout the 14-day clinical trial, Group A (11) and Group B (11) received 10 mL of test herbal mouthwash and chlorhexidine, respectively. Result: Herbal mouthwash was discovered to be equally as effective as chlorhexidine in lowering the salivary mutans streptococci count and in affecting plaque and gingival scores. Conclusion: Alternatives from the herbal world may show to be a reliable and secure therapy option.

Introduction: HSP is arguably the most thoroughly studied self-antigens connected to Cardio Vascular Diseases (CVD) and periodontal disease. Hence, the major goal of this analysis was to determine the amount of HSP60 in patients' Chronic Periodontitis (CP) patients' serum. Materials and Methods: The current investigation involved 100 patients in all. Based on the patients' periodontal and cardiovascular health, the patients were divided. The patients were made aware that this research had no direct bearing on disease treatment or cure. Results: In contrast to periodontal disease, which had a mean serum HSP60 of 59.94 ng/dl, CVD had a mean serum HSP60 of 85.98 ng/dl. When compared to periodontal disease, the CVD increased significantly (P < 0.05, 0.03). Discussion and Conclusion: We emphasize the function of HSP60 in the pathophysiology of individuals with chronic periodontitis based on the findings of the current investigation. Serum HSP60 concentrations can serve as a biomarker for periodontal inflammation. More longitudinal and interventional research with a larger sample size is required to validate the present findings. In periodontal therapies, targeting HSP60 may enhance results.

Aim: The study was done to evaluate extraction of teeth without altering the aspirin therapy. Materials and Method: Hundred patients taking aspirin therapy requiring extraction of teeth were separated into two groups with 50 samples in each. Group I continued the aspirin therapy during extraction of teeth on one occasion, and the same patients who discontinued the aspirin therapy 72 hours before extraction of teeth on another occasion become Group II. Result: The mean blood loss showed slightly increased bleeding in Group I in comparison to Group II. The average bleeding time and mean INR was statistically significant among both groups. The mean clotting time and mean platelet count were not statistically significant among groups. Conclusion: There was no alteration in bleeding after extraction in patients with low doses of aspirin therapy.

Urinary biomarkers are a promising diagnostic modality whose role was explored in nephrotic syndrome (NS). We estimated urinary apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) in children with first-episode NS (FENS) and controls with a longitudinal follow-up to see the serial changes during remission. The study groups comprised 35 children with FENS and an equal number of age- and sex-matched controls. Patients were followed up at regular intervals, and 32 patients were classified as having steroid-sensitive NS (SSNS) and 3 as having steroid-resistant NS (SRNS). The mean follow-up period was 8.7 ± 4.2 months. Three patients in the SSNS group were labeled as having frequent relapses or steroid-dependent disease during follow-up. Of the three children with SRNS, two had minimal changes in the disease and one had idiopathic membranous nephropathy. The levels of Apo A1:creatinine, NGAL:creatinine, and spot urinary protein:urinary creatinine ratios were significantly higher in children with FENS compared with controls. The levels of the urine biomarkers decreased significantly at subsequent follow-up with remission. The Apo A1 and NGAL levels in SSNS patients were significantly high compared with both the controls and FENS patients. Urinary Apo A1 levels in SRNS patients were lower at initial presentation. This longitudinal study revealed changes in the urinary Apo A1 and NGAL in NS over the course of the disease.

Abstract Background Frailty increases risk of morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. Frailty assessments could trigger risk reduction interventions if broadly adopted in clinical practice. We aimed to assess the clinical feasibility of frailty assessment among Veteran hemodialysis patients. Methods Hemodialysis patients’ ≥50 years were recruited from a single dialysis unit between 9/1/2021 and 3/31/2022.Patients who consented underwent a frailty phenotype assessment by clinical staff. Five criteria were assessed: unintentional weight loss, low grip strength, self-reported exhaustion, slow gait speed, and low physical activity. Participants were classified as frail (3–5 points), pre-frail (1–2 points) or non-frail (0 points). Feasibility was determined by the number of eligible participants completing the assessment. Results Among 82 unique dialysis patients, 45 (52%) completed the assessment, 13 (16%) refused, 18 (23%) were not offered the assessment due to death, transfers, or switch to transplant or peritoneal dialysis, and 6 patients were excluded because they did not meet mobility criteria. Among assessed patients, 40(88%) patients were identified as pre-frail (46.6%) or frail (42.2%). Low grip strength was most common (90%). Those who refused were more likely to have peripheral vascular disease (p = 0.001), low albumin (p = 0.0187), low sodium (p = 0.0422), and ineligible for kidney transplant (p = 0.005). Conclusions Just over half of eligible hemodialysis patients completed the frailty assessment suggesting difficulty with broad clinical adoption expectations. Among those assessed, frailty and pre-frailty prevalence was high. Given patients who were not tested were clinically high risk, our reported prevalence likely underestimates true frailty prevalence. Providing frailty reduction interventions to all hemodialysis patients could have high impact for this group.

Abstract This study reports that most patients with NSCLC had a significant increase in the nAb response to the currently circulating Omicron variants after bivalent booster vaccination and had Ab titers comparable to healthy participants. Interestingly, though the durability of the nAb response persisted in most of the healthy participants, patients with NSCLC had significantly reduced nAb titers after 4–6 months of vaccination. Our data highlight the importance of COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccination as the standard of care for patients with NSCLC given the evolution of new variants of concern.

Abstract Rubus species holds promise as a valuable source of polyphenols and bioactive compounds, offering significant potential as functional food ingredients with both nutraceutical and pharmaceutical benefits. However, many edible species within this genus remain under-explored and their importance is largely unrecognized. This review aims to provide an overview of the nutritional and bioactive components of both explored and under-explored Rubus species, highlighting their potential health advantages, value addition, and recent advancements. The economic exploitation of Rubus is currently limited to a few cultivated species, while numerous non-conventional and wild edible species are overlooked. Recognizing the economic and nutritional significance of exploited Rubus species, it is imperative to explore the untapped potential of these underutilized plants. By doing so, these species can be preserved from endangerment and contribute to nutritional and livelihood security for communities having access to them. This review emphasizes the importance of understanding the exceptional characteristics of Rubus species as "superfoods" and encourages the promotion and cultivation of these unexplored species. By expanding the cultivation and utilization of under-explored Rubus species, we can unlock their full potential and support sustainable nutritional and economic benefits.

Objective The study capitalised on national insurance claims data to gather information on patient characteristics and associated costs to better understand the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases (RDs).Materials and methods Data from the Healthcare Cost Institute (HCCI) data enclave were analysed using R statistical software and filtered by the International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition (ICD-10), current procedural terminology codes and the National Drug Code associated with 14 RDs and disease-modifying therapy options. Data were aggregated by prevalence, costs, patient characteristics and effects of treatment modification.Results The prevalence and costs of RDs in the HCCI commercial claims database varied significantly across the USA and between urban and rural areas. Pharmacy costs increased when a new treatment was initiated, while non-pharmacy costs decreased.Discussion Prevalence and cost estimations are highly variable due to the small number of patients with RDs, and the lack of a national healthcare database limits inferences for such patient populations. Accurate assessments require a diverse population, which can likely be achieved by analysing multiple databases. RDs face challenges in prevalence estimation due to a lack of specific disease coding and a small patient population, compounded by issues like data standardisation and privacy concerns. Addressing these through improved data management in healthcare systems, increased research and education will lead to better diagnosis, care management and quality of life for patients with RD.Conclusion Data on patients with RD in the HCCI database were analysed for prevalence, costs, patient characteristics and treatment modification effects. Significant heterogeneity in each of these factors was found across RDs, geography and locality (eg, urban and rural). Building capabilities to use machine learning to accelerate the diagnosis of RDs would vastly improve with changes to healthcare data, such as standardising data input, linking databases, addressing privacy issues and assigning ICD-10 codes for all RDs, resulting in more robust data for RD analytics.

Cattle contribute to the nutritional needs and economy of a place. The performance and fitness of cattle depend on the response and adaptation to local climatic conditions. Genomic and genetic studies are important for advancing cattle breeding, and availability of relevant reference genomes is essential. In the present study, the genome of a Vechur calf was sequenced on both short-read Illumina and long-read Nanopore sequencing platforms. The hybrid de novo assembly approach was deployed to obtain an average contig length of 1.97 Mbp and an N50 of 4.94 Mbp. By using a short-read genome sequence of the corresponding sire and dam, a haplotype-resolved genome was also assembled. In comparison to the taurine reference genome, we found 28,982 autosomal structural variants and 16,926,990 SNVs, with 883,544 SNVs homozygous in the trio samples. Many of these SNPs have been reported to be associated with various QTLs including growth, milk yield, and milk fat content, which are crucial determinants of cattle production. Furthermore, population genotype data analysis indicated that the present sample belongs to an Indian cattle breed forming a unique cluster of Bos indicus. Subsequent FST analysis revealed differentiation of the Vechur cattle genome at multiple loci, especially those regions related to whole body growth and cell division, especially IGF1, HMGA2, RRM2, and CD68 loci, suggesting a possible role of these genes in its small stature and better disease resistance capabilities in comparison with the local crossbreeds. This provides an opportunity to select and engineer cattle breeds optimized for local conditions.

The yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) - Inconel 625 (IN625) composite cladding was deposited on a stainless steel substrate using a tungsten inert gas welding manipulator to protect it from solid particle erosion. Erosion wear tests were carried out at room temperature according to the ASTM G76-18 procedure. The surface of the tested material was exposed to a jet of alumina erodent particles at impact angles of 30 and 90°, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy images were utilized to examine the morphologies of the eroded surface and the microstructure of cladding. The erosive performance of YSZ - IN625 composite cladding was 3.5 and 2.4 times compared to the substrate at different impact angles. Improved microhardness and fracture toughness resulting from the favourable interaction between the hard ceramic YSZ particles and the IN625 matrix led to the enhanced erosion performance of composite cladding. Micro-cutting and ploughing were the predominant wear mechanisms in the substrate during the solid particle erosion test at a 30° impact angle, whereas the indentation-induced plastic deformation was domi­nant at a 90° impact angle. The results also revealed that the micro-cutting, detached splats and fissures were responsible for the wear in composite cladding at 30 and 90° impact angles.

Campylobacter is a leading cause of enteric disease worldwide. No antibiotics ever (NAE) poultry has become increasingly popular, yet little is known about the incidence and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Campylobacter in this production system. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence, concentration, and AMR of Campylobacter in conventional (CV) and NAE-raised broilers. Two CV and two NAE commercial broiler flocks were included in this study. Cecum (n = 420) and ileum (n = 420) of chickens were collected at different stages during the broiler grow-out phase and following transportation to the processing plant. Samples of litter (n = 24), feed (n = 24), and water (n = 24) were also collected. Screening for Campylobacter was conducted using real-time PCR assay, and enumeration was performed by direct plating on Campy Cefex agar. Campylobacter isolates were confirmed by real-time PCR, and antimicrobial susceptibility was evaluated following the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS) methods. Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) was used to identify AMR genes carried by the resistant isolates. Campylobacter prevalence reached 100% within the first 3 weeks of summer production under both NAE and CV rearing. A lower Campylobacter prevalence was detected in conventionally raised broilers during fall (P ≤ 0.05), yet no change in prevalence was observed in NAE birds (P > 0.05). Populations were high in the cecum, carrying an average of 6.6 Log10 CFU/g after transportation, and antimicrobial-resistant Campylobacter was isolated from CV broilers during the fall. Three isolates (1.2%), identified as C. coli, carrying the gyrA and tet(O) genes, exhibited simultaneous resistance to ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and nalidixic acid. Results from this study can help identify important shifts in gut microbial community dynamics and Campylobacter prevalence associated with antibiotic administration within commercial poultry operations.

The concept of developing innovative functional food products has attracted the attention of many researchers to meet global demands as well as keep into account the well-being of people and environmental sustainability. Microalgae can be an essential raw material to fulfill such an objective. They can potentially provide a long-term solution to feed the expanding global population. This is evident by the presence of characteristics possessed by microalgae such as high biomass productivity, remarkable nutritional qualities, appealing organoleptic features, and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress. When compared to traditional crop species, algae have a higher concentration of lipids and proteins and are more environmentally friendly because they lack cellulose, which is an inedible material. Moreover, despite the existing obstacles such as poor technology preparedness and restricted economies of scale, micro-algae holds promise for a future where healthier and more sustainable food items can contribute to better dietary habits, lifestyles, and overall health. This review attempts to emphasize the potential of microalgae as a healthy and sustainable dietary alternative. Moreover, the significance of bioactive metabolites obtained from microalgae in reducing greenhouse gases, sewage treatment, bioremediation, photocatalytic degradation, production of nanoparticles, nutraceuticals, and abiotic stress resilience. The selection of suitable and cost-efficient cultivation and harvesting techniques required for growing microalgae and manufacturing its products will be a boon to many food industries.

This review delves into the utilization of non-conventional starch sources through a specific cultural lens, focusing on the practices and significance of Arenga obtusifolia Griff., commonly referred to as the sugar palm, and its derivative product called Tassey. The tassey is widely popular in the Nyishi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, India, a region renowned for its biodiversity and abundant palm tree varieties, including the sugar palm. Highlighting the multifaceted dimensions of the sugar palm, this review expounds upon Tassey's creation, consumption, and versatile applications. Tassey, a substance extracted from the sugar palm's stem, emerges as a pivotal element of the Nyishi tribe's cultural heritage and sustenance strategies, especially during times of scarcity and natural calamities. This review sheds light on the integral role played by Nyishi women in the cultivation and preparation of tassey, underscoring their vital contribution to upholding this time-honoured practice. Furthermore, the economic ramifications of tassey production and its commercial viability are explored, elucidating its role in bolstering the tribe's livelihood. Extending beyond its dietary role, tassey exhibits a diverse array of applications, spanning from human consumption to its incorporation in the crafting of traditional alcoholic beverages and even as a therapeutic resource for livestock. By offering insights into the profound relationship between the Nyishi tribe and the sugar palm, this review enriches our comprehension of traditional ecological wisdom and sustainable exploitation of resources within a culturally vibrant backdrop. Ultimately, this comprehensive exploration contributes to a nuanced appreciation of the intricate interplay between heritage, environment, and innovation in this distinctive region.

Diabetes modifies pathways such as serine/threonine protein kinase (Akt) and Protein kinase C (PKC)/- glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) glucose absorption, and inhibits α-amylase and α-glucosidase, Sodium/glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT-1), and Na+-K+-ATPase activity. Diabetes may also be caused by a decrease in the expression of sterol regulatory element binding protein 1 (SREBP-1) and its target genes, fatty acid synthase (FAS), stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD-1), and acetyl-CoA carboxylase α (ACC), as well as a decrease in the levels of C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), Caspase12, and Caspase3 proteins. Diabetes has long been linked to diseases of the cardiovascular, nervous, skeletal, reproductive, hepatic, ocular, and renal systems. Diosgenin, a steroidal compound derived from fenugreek, aids in the prevention of diabetes by altering cellular pathways in favor of healthy bodily functions. Diosgenin is a new nutraceutical on the market that claims to cure diabetes in particular. This article focuses on diosgenin extraction and purification, fenugreek bioactive compounds, pharmacological properties of diosgenin, mode of action of diosgenin to cure diabetes, and dosages.

IntroductionFlourishing is an evolving wellbeing construct and outcome of interest across the social and biological sciences. Despite some conceptual advancements, there remains limited consensus on how to measure flourishing, as well as how to distinguish it from closely related wellbeing constructs, such as thriving and life satisfaction. This paper aims to provide an overview and comparison of the diverse scales that have been developed to measure flourishing among adolescent and adult populations to provide recommendations for future studies seeking to use flourishing as an outcome in social and biological research.MethodsIn accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), we conducted a scoping review across PubMed and EMBASE of studies introducing original flourishing scales (defined as a previously unpublished measure of mental health or wellbeing that used “flourishing” in its definition). Studies focusing on adult populations that were published before April 28, 2023 were considered eligible for inclusion.ResultsOut of 781 studies retrieved, we identified seven eligible studies covering seven unique flourishing scales. We find that all seven scales are multidimensional and assess features over monthly or yearly intervals. While most of the scales (six out of seven) include indicators of both hedonic and eudaimonic wellbeing, the operationalization of these dimensions of wellbeing varies considerably between scales. Several of the scales have been translated and validated across multiple geographical contexts, including higher- and lower-income countries.DiscussionComplementing self-report measures with other social, economic, regional, and biological indicators of flourishing may be useful to provide holistic and widely applicable measures of wellbeing. This review contributes to concept validation efforts that can guide strategies to sustain flourishing societies.

The current study investigates the underlying causes of the microstructural features, microhardness and high-temperature oxidation behaviour of the NiCrAlY powder cladded stainless steel (SS-304) substrate. The cladding was performed by utilizing an industrial multimode microwave apparatus, operating at 1.1 kW and 2.45 GHz with a 900 s processing time. The fabricated clad layer unveiled perfect metallurgical integration with the substrate and was noticed to be free from obvious flaws, including cracks or improper bonding at the clad-base material interface. The deposited clad layer revealed an equiaxed dendritic microstructure at the top while a typical columnar dendritic microstructure at the centre. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) examination of the clad sample revealed the existence of intermetallic compounds like γ′-Ni3Al, and Al5Y3O12 in addition to a solid solution of Iron (Fe) and Nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr) enriched matrix. The microhardness of the clad layer was noticed to be higher than that of the uncladded SS-304 specimen. High-temperature oxidation investigation performed at 900 °C in air revealed weight gain by all the samples (bare and clad) in a parabolic fashion, initially for around 10 cycles of oxidation, beyond which the weight gain is noticed to saturate. The maximum oxidation resistance exhibited by the clad sample was credited with having intensified α-Al2O3 in the surface layer.
