The algebra of spacetime supersymmetry generators in the RNS formalism for the superstring closes only up to a picture-changing operation. After adding non-minimal variables and working in the "large" Hilbert space, the algebra closes without picture-changing and spacetime supersymmetry can be made manifest. The resulting non-minimal version of the RNS formalism is related by a field redefinition to the pure spinor formalism., Comment: 10 pages

In this paper, we investigate the soliton solutions of a 4D nonlinear pure spinor fermionic model with forcing and damping under white noise to understand how the dynamic of soler solitons could be affected by external excitations. For this purpose, we simulate the evolution of their with the phase-plane analysis which is one of the most significant methods for investigating the behaviors of nonlinear systems when the methods for calculating analytical solution do not exist.

The lambda deformation of the pure spinor formalism of the superstring in the AdS 5 × S 5 background is introduced. It is shown that the deformation preserves the integrability as well as the one-loop conformal invariance of its parent theory. It is also shown that the effective action takes the standard form of the Berkovits-Howe action functional, allowing to calculate the deformed background supergeometry in a straightforward way. The background fields coincide with those of the lambda model of the Green-Schwarz formalism, hence satisfying the same set of supergravity equations of motion.

Previous attempts to determine the worldsheet origin of the pure spinor formalism were not completely successful, but introduced important concepts that seem to be connected to its fundamental structure, e.g., emergent supersymmetry and the role of reparametrization symmetry. In this work, a new proposal towards the underlying gauge theory of the pure spinor superstring is presented, based on an extension of Berkovits' twistor-like constraint. The gauge algebra is analyzed in detail and worldsheet reparametrization is shown to be a redundant symmetry. The master action is built with a careful account of the intrinsic gauge symmetries associated with the pure spinor constraint and a consistent gauge fixing is performed. After a field redefinition, spacetime supersymmetry emerges and the resulting action describes the pure spinor superstring., v1: 12 pages, short version presenting the results; v2: 36 pages, extended version containing a thorough analysis of the gauge algebra, the explicit construction of the pure spinor master action and some side results; v3: 37 pages, title changed, minor improvements and references added, published version

The $D=11$ pure spinor superparticle has been shown to describe linearized $D=11$ supergravity in a manifestly covariant way. A number of authors have proposed that its correlation functions be used to compute amplitudes. The use of the scalar structure of the eleven-dimensional pure spinor top cohomology introduces a natural measure for computing such correlation functions. This prescription requires the construction of ghost number one and zero vertex operators. In these notes, we construct explicitly a ghost number one vertex operator but show the incompatibiliy of a ghost number zero vertex operator satisfying a standard descent equation for $D=11$ supergravity., Comment: 13 pages

At small AdS radius, the superstring on $AdS_5\times S^5$ was conjectured by Maldacena to be equivalent to ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills at small `t Hooft coupling where thickened Feynman diagrams can be used to compute scattering amplitudes. It was previously shown that the pure spinor worldsheet action of the $AdS_5\times S^5$ superstring can be expressed as the sum of a BRST-trivial term and a `B-term' which is antisymmetric in worldsheet derivatives. Using the explicit form of the pure spinor vertex operators, it will be argued here that the free super-Yang-Mills Feynman diagrams are described by the BRST-trivial term where the thickened propagators are the regions of the string worldsheet near the AdS boundary and the holes are the regions near the AdS horizon. Evidence will then be presented that the antisymmetric B-term generates the super-Yang-Mills vertex so that, at small radius and arbitrary genus, the superstring amplitudes correctly reproduce the super-Yang-Mills Feynman diagram expansion., Comment: 17 pages with 2 figures. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-07-01 In any type II superstring background, the supergravity vertex operators in the pure spinor formalism are described by a gauge superfield. In this paper, we obtain for the first time an explicit expression for this superfield in an AdS5 × S5 background. Previously, the vertex operators were only known close to the boundary of AdS5 or in the minus eight picture. Our strategy for the computation was to apply eight picture raising operators in the minus eight picture vertices. In the process, a huge number of terms are generated and we have developed numerical techniques to perform intermediary simplifications. Alternatively, the same numerical techniques can be used to compute the vertices directly in the zero picture by constructing a basis of invariants and fitting for the coefficients. One motivation for constructing the vertex operators is the computation of AdS5 × S5 string amplitudes. We consider supersymmetry in five dimensions, where the fermionic parameters are a 2-form under SL(5). Supermultiplets are investigated using the pure spinor superfield formalism, and are found to be closely related to infinite-dimensional extensions of the supersymmetry algebra: the Borcherds superalgebra ${\scr B}(E_4)$, the tensor hierarchy algebra $S(E_4)$ and the exceptional superalgebra $E(5,10)$. A theorem relating ${\scr B}(E_4)$ and $E(5,10)$ to all levels is given., Comment: 14 pp. v2: minor changes, added refs

Pure spinor formalism implies that supergravity equations in space-time are equivalent to the requirement that the worldsheet sigma-model satisfies certain properties. Here we point out that one of these properties has a particularly transparent geometrical interpretation. Namely, there exists an odd nilpotent vector field on some singular supermanifold, naturally associated to space-time. All supergravity fields are encoded in this vector field, as coefficients in its normal form. The nilpotence implies, modulo some zero modes, that they satisfy the SUGRA equations of motion., LaTeX, 22pp; v2: corrected mistakes, added explanations, new Section 7; v3: we show that the nilpotence of Q implies all SUGRA equations of motion, and discuss div Q in the Introduction

In this paper it is studied a relation between the kappa-symmetric and pure spinor formulations of the supermembrane in eleven dimensions using Berkovits’ recently developed method for the superstring (in D = 10). In the present paper I present an extension of this method to the supermembrane, showing that it is possible to reinstate the reparameterization constraints in the pure spinor formulation of the supermembrane by introducing a topological sector and performing a similarity transformation. The resulting BRST charge is then of conventional type and is argued to be (related to) the BRST charge of the kappa-symmetric supermembrane in a formulation where all second class constraints are “gauge unfixed” to first class constraints. In the present analysis a natural candidate for a (non-covariant) supermembrane analogue of the superstring B-ghost is encountered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For several classes of BPS vacua, we find a procedure to modify the PDEs that imply preserved supersymmetry and the equations of motion so that they still imply the latter but not the former. In each case we trace back this supersymmetry-breaking deformation to a distinct modification of the pure spinor equations that provide a geometrical interpretation of supersymmetry. We give some concrete examples: first we generalize the Imamura class of Mink6 solutions by removing a symmetry requirement, and then derive some local and global solutions both before and after breaking supersymmetry., 30 pages, references added

The construction of the ghost number zero and one vertex operators for the 11D pure spinor superparticle will be revisited. In this sense, an alternative way of defining the ghost number one vertex operator will be given after introducing a ghost number -2 operator made out of physical operators defined on the 11D non-minimal pure spinor superspace. This procedure will make explicit and transparent the relation between the ghost number three and one vertex operators. In addition, using a non-Lorentz covariant b-ghost, ghost number zero and two vertex operators satisfying standard descent equations will be presented in full form., 16 pages. Added reference. We present a novel twistor formulation of the ten-dimensional massless superparticle. This formulation is based on the introduction of pure spinor variables through a field redefinition of another model for the superparticle, and in the new description we find that the super-Pauli-Lubanski three-form naturally arises as a constraint. Quantization is studied in detail for both models and they are shown to correctly describe the $D = 10$ super-Yang-Mills states., 23 pages. Fixed typos, appendix added. Published version

In the study of the Type II superstring, it is useful to consider the BRST complex associated to the sum of two pure spinors. The cohomology of this complex is an infinite-dimensional vector space. Elko spinors are eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator. In this work we use the Clifford algebra of the physical space in order to formulate the theory of Elko spinors and use a procedure analog to Ryder’s derivation of Dirac equation to come up with an equation for Elko spinor fields. Unlike other works in the literature where an equation for Elko spinor fields has been studied, in this work we obtain a first order differential equation for Elko spinor fields, which resembles but is different from the Dirac equation.

It is well known that instantons are classical topological solutions existing in the context of quantum field theories that lie behind the standard model of particles. To provide a better understanding for the dynamical nature of spinor-type instanton solutions, conformal invariant pure spinor fermionic models that admit particle-like solutions for the derived classical field equations are studied in this work under cosine wave forcing. For this purpose, the effects of external periodic forcing on two systems that have different dimensions and quantum spinor numbers and have been obtained under the use of Heisenberg ansatz are investigated by constructing their Poincare sections in phase space. As a result, bifurcations and chaos are observed depending on the excitation amplitude of the external forcing in both pure spinor fermionic models.

We give several equivalent characterizations of orthogonal subbundles of the generalized tangent bundle defined, up to B -field transform, by almost product and local product structures. We also introduce a pure spinor formalism for generalized CRF-structure and investigate the resulting decomposition of the de Rham operator. As applications we give a characterization of generalized complex manifolds that are locally the product of generalized complex factors and discuss infinitesimal deformations of generalized CRF-structures.

These notes are a written version of my talk given at the CARMA workshop in June 2017, with some additional material. I presented a few concepts that have recently been used in the computation of tree-level scattering amplitudes (mostly using pure spinor methods but not restricted to it) in a context that could be of interest to the combinatorics community. In particular, I focused on the appearance of {\it planar binary trees} in scattering amplitudes and presented some curious identities obeyed by related objects, some of which are known to be true only via explicit examples.

The pure spinor formulation of superstring theory includes an interacting sector of central charge $c_{\lambda}=22$, which can be realized as a curved $\beta\gamma$ system on the cone over the orthogonal Grassmannian $\text{OG}^{+}(5,10)$. We find that the spectrum of the $\beta\gamma$ system organizes into representations of the $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{e}_6$ affine algebra at level $-3$, whose $\mathfrak{so}(10)_{-3}\oplus {\mathfrak u}(1)_{-4}$ subalgebra encodes the rotational and ghost symmetries of the system. As a consequence, the pure spinor partition function decomposes as a sum of affine $\mathfrak{e}_6$ characters. We interpret this as an instance of a more general pattern of enhancements in curved $\beta\gamma$ systems, which also includes the cases $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{so}(8)$ and $\mathfrak{e}_7$, corresponding to target spaces that are cones over the complex Grassmannian $\text{Gr}(2,4)$ and the complex Cayley plane $\mathbb{OP}^2$. We identify these curved $\beta\gamma$ systems with the chiral algebras of certain $2d$ $(0,2)$ CFTs arising from twisted compactification of 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs on $S^2$., Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure; v2: added references, minor updates

It is well known in NSR string theory, that vertex operators can be constructed in various ``pictures''. Recently this was discussed in the context of pure spinor formalism. NSR picture changing operators have an elegant super-geometrical interpretation. In this paper we provide a generalization of this super-geometrical construction, which is also applicable to the pure spinor formalism., Comment: 14 pages, typos corrected, comments added

The full two-loop amplitudes for five massless states in Type II and Heterotic superstrings are constructed in terms of convergent integrals over the genus-two moduli space of compact Riemann surfaces and integrals of Green functions and Abelian differentials on the surface. The construction combines elements from the BRST cohomology of the pure spinor formulation and from chiral splitting with the help of loop momenta and homology invariance. The α′ → 0 limit of the resulting superstring amplitude is shown to be in perfect agreement with the previously known amplitude computed in Type II supergravity. Investigations of the α′ expansion of the Type II amplitude and comparisons with predictions from S-duality are relegated to a first companion paper. A construction from first principles in the RNS formulation of the genus-two amplitude with five external NS states is relegated to a second companion paper.

We build on the results of [1] for generalised frame fields on generalised quotient spaces and study integrable deformations for ℂPn. In particular we show how, when the target space of the Principal Chiral Model is a complex projective space, a two-parameter deformation can be introduced in principle. The second parameter can however be removed via a diffeomorphism, which we construct explicitly, in accordance with the results stemming from a thorough integrability analysis we carry out. We also elucidate how the deformed target space can be seen as an instance of generalised Kähler, or equivalently bi-Hermitian, geometry. In this respect, we find the generic form of the pure spinors for ℂPn and the explicit expression for the generalised Kähler potential for n = 1, 2.

We evaluate closed string disk amplitudes in the pure spinor formalism. We focus on low point functions (two- and one-point functions) but our analysis is also relevant for higher n-point functions. Amongst others we discuss issues arising due to the gauge fixing of the conformal Killing group of the disk and due to the zero mode prescription in the pure spinor formalism. As expected, in the end we find agreement with the known results from the RNS formalism., Comment: 28 pages, v2: Small changes; in particular added footnote 2 and reference [11]; version published by JHEP

After constructing a simplified four-dimensional version of the b ghost, topological multiloop amplitudes in type II superstring theory compactified on a six-dimensional orbifold are computed using the non-minimal pure spinor formalism. These pure spinor amplitude computations preserve manifest $N = 2$ $D = 4$ supersymmetry and, unlike the analogous topological multiloop amplitude computations using the hybrid formalism, can be extended to non-topological amplitudes., 32 pages

This is the first installment of a series of three papers in which we describe a method to determine higher-point correlation functions in one-loop open-superstring amplitudes from first principles. In this first part, we exploit the synergy between the cohomological features of pure-spinor superspace and the pure-spinor zero-mode integration rules of the one-loop amplitude prescription. This leads to the study of a rich variety of multiparticle superfields which are local, have covariant BRST variations, and are compatible with the particularities of the pure-spinor amplitude prescription. Several objects related to these superfields, such as their non-local counterparts and the so-called BRST pseudo-invariants, are thoroughly reviewed and put into new light. Their properties will turn out to be mysteriously connected to products of one-loop worldsheet functions in packages dubbed "generalized elliptic integrands", whose prominence will be seen in the later parts of this series of papers., Comment: 72 pp, v2 published version

An attempt is made to apply the pure spinor formalism to the non-relativistic IIA D2-brane. The fermionic constraints corresponding to the rescaled fermionic coordinates are given. Two commuting spinor fields are introduced, each one corresponding to a fermionic constraint. A BRST charge is constructed via the ansatz proposed by N. Berkovits. The nilpotency of the BRST charge leads to a set of constraints for the two spinor fields including pure spinor constraints. A novel non-trivial solution is given for one of the spinor fields which can be written as a sum of two pure spinors., Comment: 23 pages in latex, no figures; discussion added, some typos corrected, more references added
