Joint homogenization during transition metal carbides ceramic bonding has attracted much attention as a technique to increase the service temperature and relieve the residual stress for various high-temperature applications. In this work, homogeneous joints of ZrC0.85 ceramic were obtained by diffusion bonding using single Nb and multiple Ti/Nb/Ti as the interlayer. The effect of interlayer composition, bonding temperature and holding time on the microstructure of the joints was investigated. The effect of Nb and Ti on the composition homogeneity and the formation of Kirkendall voids in the ZrC0.85 joints was also discussed. When using single Nb as the interlayer, the homogenization of the joints can be achieved at a bonding temperature of ∼1500 °C and holding for 1 h and no Kirkendall voids were observed when further increasing the bonding temperature to 1600 °C because of the good mutual solubility of NbCx and ZrCx and the relative moderate diffusion rate of Nb. However, severe Kirkendall effects were observed at a higher temperature of 1700 °C, which would deteriorate the high-temperature performance of the joints. The adoption of Ti/Nb/Ti further minished the diffusion rate difference of the interfacial elements through the formation of TiCx phase. As a result, only a few Kirkendall voids were formed at 1700 °C. Nano-hardness of the resultant homogeneous joints was comparable to that of the ZrC0.85 ceramic due to their similar composition. This study shows that active diffusion bonding based on interlayer design for homogeneous joints could pave a new way to join transition metal carbides.

This paper presents a selective review of statistical computation methods for massive data analysis. A huge amount of statistical methods for massive data computation have been rapidly developed in the past decades. In this work, we focus on three categories of statistical computation methods: (1) distributed computing, (2) subsampling methods, and (3) minibatch gradient techniques. The first class of literature is about distributed computing and focuses on the situation, where the dataset size is too huge to be comfortably handled by one single computer. In this case, a distributed computation system with multiple computers has to be utilized. The second class of literature is about subsampling methods and concerns about the situation, where the blacksample size of dataset is small enough to be placed on one single computer but too large to be easily processed by its memory as a whole. The last class of literature studies those minibatch gradient related optimization techniques, which have been extensively used for optimizing various deep learning models.

Abstract Background Supracrestal gingival tissue dimensions (SGTDs) has been considered to be an essential element of periodontal phenotype (PP) components. This study aimed to explore the relationship between SGTDs and other PP components by digital superposition method that integrated cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) with intraoral scanning. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Stomatology Hospital of Fujian Medical University. Participants were recruited based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data obtained from the digital scanner (TRIOS 3, 3Shape, Denmark) and CBCT images were imported into the TRIOS software (Implant Studio, 3Shape, Denmark) for computing relevant parameters. The significant level was set at 0.05. Results A total of 83 participants with 498 maxillary anterior teeth were finally included. The mean values of supracrestal gingival height (SGH) and the distance from the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) to the crest of the alveolar ridge (CEJ-ABC) on the buccal site were significantly higher than palatal SGH (SGH-p) and palatal CEJ-ABC (CEJ-ABC-p). Men exhibited taller CEJ-ABC and SGH-p than women. Additionally, tooth type was significantly associated with the SGH, SGH-p and CEJ-ABC-p. Taller SGH was associated with wider crown, smaller papilla height (PH), flatter gingival margin, thicker bone thickness (BT) and gingival thickness (GT) at CEJ, the alveolar bone crest (ABC), and 2 mm apical to the ABC. Smaller SGH-p displayed thicker BT and GT at CEJ, the ABC, and 2 and 4 mm apical to the ABC. Higher CEJ-ABC showed lower interproximal bone height, smaller PH, flatter gingival margin, thinner GT and BT at CEJ, and 2 mm apical to the ABC. Smaller CEJ-ABC-p displayed thicker BT at CEJ and 2 and 4 mm apical to the ABC. On the buccal, thicker GT was correlated with thicker BT at 2 and 4 mm below the ABC. Conclusion SGTDs exhibited a correlation with other PP components, especially crown shape, gingival margin and interdental PH. The relationship between SGTDs and gingival and bone phenotypes depended on the apico-coronal level evaluated. A novel chitosan (CS) functionalized optical fiber sensor with a bullet-shaped hollow cavity was proposed in this work for the trace concentration of Pb2+ ion detection in the water environment. The sensor is an optical fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI), which consists of a sequentially spliced bullet-shaped hollow-core fiber (HCF), thin-core fiber, and another piece of spliced bullet-shaped HCF. The hollow-core fiber is caused to collapse by adjusting the amount of discharge to form a tapered hollow cavity with asymmetric end faces. The bullet-like hollow cavities act as beam expanders and couplers for optical fiber sensors, which were symmetrically spliced at both ends of a section of thin core fiber. The simulation and experiments show that the bullet-like hollow-core tapered cavity excites more cladding modes and is more sensitive to variation in the external environment than the planar and spherical cavities. The ion-imprinted chitosan (IIP-CS) film was fabricated with Pb2+ ion as a template and uniformly coated on the surface for specific recognition of Pb2+. Experimental verification confirms that the developed sensor can achieve high-sensitivity Pb2+ ion detection, with a sensitivity of up to −12.68 pm/ppm and a minimum Pb2+ ion detection concentration of 5.44 ppb Meanwhile, the sensor shows excellent selectivity, repeatability, and stability in the ion detection process, which has huge potential in the direction of heavy metal ion detection in the future.

Accurately predicting PM2.5 is a crucial task for protecting public health and making policy decisions. In the meanwhile, it is also a challenging task, given the complex spatio-temporal patterns of PM2.5 concentrations. Recently, the utilization of graph neural network (GNN) models has emerged as a promising approach, demonstrating significant advantages in capturing the spatial and temporal dependencies associated with PM2.5 concentrations. In this work, we collected a comprehensive dataset spanning 308 cities in China, encompassing data on seven pollutants as well as meteorological variables from January 2015 to September 2022. To effectively predict the PM2.5 concentrations, we propose a graph attention recurrent neural network (GARNN) model by taking into account both meteorological and geographical information. Extensive experiments validated the efficiency of the proposed GARNN model, revealing its superior performance compared to other existing methods in terms of predictive capabilities. This study contributes to advancing the understanding and prediction of PM2.5 concentrations, providing a valuable tool for addressing environmental challenges.

ABSTRACT: Beak color in ducks is a primary characteristic of local breeds and genetic resources. Among them, black beaks, a rare packaging trait of high-quality duck products, have attracted much attention. In this study, Runzhou White Created ducks (black beak) and white-feathered Putian black ducks (yellow beak) were used to construct the F2 generation resource population to study the changing discipline of beak color combined with the beak color statistics of gray-beaked ducklings of Runzhou White Created ducks. Subsequently, transcriptome sequencing was performed to identify genetic markers related to beak color. To explore the rules of beak color change and its regulatory network, trends, and trend analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis（WGCNA）were performed. The screening results were verified by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. A large difference was observed between the beak colors of birds from the F1 generation at 0 and 42 d of age. The F2 generation results show that nearly half of the black-beaked ducklings become green-beaked; the proportion of black spots for gray- and patterned-beaked ducklings increases with age, with most becoming green-beaked. Moreover, the beak color darkened from the first day, and the gray color value decreased significantly from the second day. Transcriptome sequencing indicated that TYR was differentially expressed between black and yellow beaks at 4 to 6 wk of age, and trend and WGCNA analyses showed that EDNRB signaling pathway genes and MITF were highly expressed in the first week, and TYR, TYRP1, and DCT were highly expressed at 4 to 6 wk of age. Therefore, there is melanin synthesis and deposition after hatching for gray- and patterned-beaked ducklings, while the yellow pigment might be deposited in the epidermis of beaks for black-beaked ducklings. The EDNRB signaling pathway is probably involved in early melanosome maturation and melanin formation in duck beaks, and genes such as TYR can maintain the black-beak phenotype.

Abstract Wild barley, from “Evolution Canyon (EC)” in Mount Carmel, Israel, are ideal models for cereal chromosome evolution studies. Here, the wild barley EC_S1 is from the south slope with higher daily temperatures and drought, while EC_N1 is from the north slope with a cooler climate and higher relative humidity, which results in a differentiated selection due to contrasting environments. We assembled a 5.03 Gb genome with contig N50 of 3.53 Mb for wild barley EC_S1 and a 5.05 Gb genome with contig N50 of 3.45 Mb for EC_N1 using 145 Gb and 160.0 Gb Illumina sequencing data, 295.6 Gb and 285.35 Gb Nanopore sequencing data and 555.1 Gb and 514.5 Gb Hi-C sequencing data, respectively. BUSCOs and CEGMA evaluation suggested highly complete assemblies. Using full-length transcriptome data, we predicted 39,179 and 38,373 high-confidence genes in EC_S1 and EC_N1, in which 93.6% and 95.2% were functionally annotated, respectively. We annotated repetitive elements and non-coding RNAs. These two wild barley genome assemblies will provide a rich gene pool for domesticated barley.

The Chinese crested (CC) duck is a unique indigenous waterfowl breed, which has a crest cushion that affects its survival rate. Therefore, the CC duck is an ideal model to investigate the genetic compensation response to maintain genetic stability. In the present study, we first generated a chromosome-level genome of CC ducks. Comparative genomics revealed that genes related to tissue repair, immune function, and tumors were under strong positive selection, indicating that these adaptive changes might enhance cancer resistance and immune response to maintain the genetic stability of CC ducks. We also assembled a Chinese spot-billed (Csp-b) duck genome, and detected the structural variations (SVs) in the genome assemblies of three ducks (i.e., CC duck, Csp-b duck, and Peking duck). Functional analysis revealed that several SVs were related to the immune system of CC ducks, further strongly suggesting that genetic compensation in the anti-tumor and immune systems supports the survival of CC ducks. Moreover, we confirmed that the CC duck originated from the mallard ducks. Finally, we revealed the physiological and genetic basis of crest traits and identified a causative mutation in TAS2R40 that leads to crest formation. Overall, the findings of this study provide new insights into the role of genetic compensation in adaptive evolution.

Different excavation methods lead to substantial changes in the relaxation zone of the surrounding rock. The stress characteristics of the support structure become more complex during the process of excavation method conversion. It is essential to design a well-considered construction plan to minimize the disruptions caused by excavation method conversion. This work takes a tunnel in Jiangsu Province, China, as the engineering background and establishes a numerical model for the conversion from the double-side-drift method to the three-bench method. Based on a numerical investigation, this study analyzed the deformation of surrounding rock and the stress state of the support structure during the excavation method conversion. The results showed that excavation method conversion can accelerate the deformation rate of the surrounding rock, causing the support structure to bear greater pressure. This leads to a significant increase in the circumferential stress at the junction of two excavation methods. Setting up a reinforced area during the process of excavation method conversion can improve the stress state of the support structure. Finally, an analysis of the parameters of the reinforced area was conducted, and a reasonable construction plan was proposed. This study can provide guidance for subsequent construction projects.

Abstract Background Frailty has been considered to be associated with major mortality and increased length of stay after cardiac surgery. This study aimed to explore the predictive potential of frailty assessment in the prognosis of elderly patients undergoing bypass surgery. Methods This study assessed the preoperative frailty according to the Fried’s frailty phenotype, and included 150 frail and 150 non-frail elderly patients (≥ 65 y) who underwent bypass surgery. The present study evaluated the prognosis of elderly patients based on sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score, and collected clinical indicators to construct logistic regression models with the prognosis as the dependent variable, to explore the potential predictive ability of preoperative frailty. Moreover, this study focused on the complications and analyzed the relationship between preoperative frailty and postoperative complications. Results In the present study, 244 patients were divided into the favorable prognosis group and 56 patients were divided into the unfavorable prognosis group. Logistic regression analysis showed that increased myoglobin and high cardiac function classification were independent risk factors for unfavorable prognosis in elderly patients undergoing bypass surgery. The discrimination of the clinical prediction model was determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the area under curve (AUC) was 0.928. After adding preoperative frailty assessment, the AUC was improved to 0.939. This study found a significant correlation between preoperative frailty and postoperative complications, mainly in the circulatory system. Conclusion Preoperative frailty assessment could be a predictive factor for the prognosis of elderly patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. According to our study, frailty assessment and appropriate intervention before bypass surgery may be beneficial to the enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery. Trial registration The clinical study was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (2021-SR-393). All patients signed an informed consent form.

Introduction: Beak color—a pigment-related trait—is an important feature of duck breeds. Recently, little research has addressed genetic mechanism of the beak colors in poultry, whereas the process and the regulation factors of melanin deposition have been well described.Methods: To investigate the genetic mechanism of beak colors, we conducted an integrated analysis of genomic selection signatures to identify a candidate site associated with beak color. For this, we used black-billed (Yiyang I meat duck synthetic line H1, H2, H3&HF) and yellow-billed ducks (Cherry Valley ducks and white feather Putian black duck). Quantitative real-time PCR and genotyping approaches were used to verify the function of the candidate site.Results: We identified 3,895 windows containing 509 genes. After GO and KEGG enrichment analysis, nine genes were selected. Ultimately, MITF was selected by comparing the genomic differentiation (FST). After loci information selection, 41 extreme significantly different loci were selected, which are all located in intron regions of MITF and are in almost complete linkage disequilibrium. Subsequently, the site ASM874695v1:10:g.17814522T > A in MITF was selected as the marker site. Furthermore, we found that MITF expression is significantly higher in black-beaked ducks than in yellow-beaked ducks of the F2 generation (p < 0.01). After genotyping, most yellow-billed individuals are found with homozygous variant; at the same time, there are no birds with homozygous variant in black-billed populations, while the birds with homozygous and heterozygous variant share the same proportion.Conclusion:MITF plays a very critical role in the melanogenesis and melanin deposition of duck beaks, which can effectively affect the beak color. The MITF site, ASM874695v1:10:g.17814522T > A could be selected as a marker site for the duck beak color phenotype.

Abstract High flexibility, porosity, and antibacterial activity are extremely desired for wearable health monitoring, which is beneficial to simultaneously promote wearing comfort and safety. In this study, an antibacterial nanofibers‐based triboelectric generator (AN‐TENG) composed of the flexible chitosan/polyvinylpyrrolidone modified with halloysite nanotubes (CTS/PVP/HNTs) nanofibers and cube‐arrays structured Ecoflex film is proposed for simultaneously energy harvesting and self‐powered human motion monitoring. The open‐circuit voltage (280 V), short‐circuit current (3.98 μA), and transferred charge (51 nC) of the CTS/PVP/HNTs nanofibers TENG at the optimal compound concentration are increased by 90.8%, 86.92%, and 96.2%, respectively, compared to the CTS/PVP nanofibers one (size: 3 cm × 3 cm, mechanical force: 10 N @1 Hz), revealing good real‐time monitoring ability for human wrist, elbow, and finger motion. An antibacterial test is carried out to evaluate the antibacterial activity and the antibacterial rate of the nanofibers against Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) based on the current national standard GB/T 31402–2015, indicating good antibacterial properties of the nanofibers. This research offers an ingenious strategy to establish an antibacterial nanofibers‐based TENG for self‐powered motion monitoring and energy harvesting and offers a new insight to improve the practical security of wearable electronic devices.

Abstract In this work, single-shot ptychography was adapted to the XUV range and, as a proof of concept, performed at the free-electron laser FLASH at DESY to obtain a high-resolution reconstruction of a test sample. Ptychography is a coherent diffraction imaging technique capable of imaging extended samples with diffraction-limited resolution. However, its scanning nature makes ptychography time-consuming and also prevents its application for mapping of dynamical processes. Single-shot ptychography can be realized by collecting the diffraction patterns of multiple overlapping beams in one shot and, in recent years, several concepts based on two con-focal lenses were employed in the visible regime. Unfortunately, this approach cannot be extended straightforwardly to X-ray wavelengths due to the use of refractive optics. Here, a novel single-shot ptychography setup utilizes a combination of X-ray focusing optics with a two-dimensional beam-splitting diffraction grating. It facilitates single-shot imaging of extended samples at X-ray wavelengths.

Abstract Background Antibiotic resistome has been found to strongly interact with the core microbiota in the human gut, yet little is known about how antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) correlate with certain microbes in large rivers that are regarded as “terrestrial gut.” Results By creating the integral pattern for ARGs and antibiotic-resistant microbes in water and sediment along a 4300-km continuum of the Yangtze River, we found that human pathogen bacteria (HPB) share 13.4% and 5.9% of the ARG hosts in water and sediment but contribute 64% and 46% to the total number of planktonic and sedimentary ARGs, respectively. Moreover, the planktonic HPB harbored 79 ARG combinations that are dominated by “natural” supercarriers (e.g., Rheinheimera texasensis and Noviherbaspirillum sp. Root189) in river basins. Conclusions We confirmed that terrestrial HPB are the major ARG hosts in the river, rather than conventional supercarriers (e.g., Enterococcus spp. and other fecal indicator bacteria) that prevail in the human gut. The discovery of HPB as natural supercarriers in a world’s large river not only interprets the inconsistency between the spatial dissimilarities in ARGs and their hosts, but also highlights the top priority of controlling terrestrial HPB in the future ARG-related risk management of riverine ecosystems globally. Abstract Graphene is a promising candidate for the next‐generation infrared array image sensors at room temperature due to its high mobility, tunable energy band, wide band absorption, and compatibility with complementary metal oxide semiconductor process. However, it is difficult to simultaneously obtain ultrafast response time and ultrahigh responsivity, which limits the further improvement of graphene photoconductive devices. Here, a novel graphene/C60/bismuth telluride/C60/graphene vertical heterojunction phototransistor is proposed. The response spectral range covers 400–1800 nm; the responsivity peak is 106 A W−1; and the peak detection rate and peak response speed reach 1014 Jones and 250 µs, respectively. In addition, the regulation of positive and negative photocurrents at a gate voltage is characterized and the ionization process in impurities of the designed phototransistor at a low temperature is analyzed. Tunable bidirectional response provides a new degree of freedom for phototransistors' signal resolution. The analysis of the dynamic change process of impurity energy level is conducted to improve the device's performance. From the perspective of manufacturing process, the ultrathin phototransistor (20–30 nm) is compatible with functional metasurface to realize wavelength or polarization selection, making it possible to achieve large‐scale production of integrated spectrometer or polarization imaging sensor by nanoimprinting process.

Nowadays, it is a challenge for a bone scaffold to achieve controllable drug release and a porous structure at the same time. Herein, we fabricated hydroxyapatite/poly (butylene succinate)/metoprolol tartrate (HA/PBS/MPT) composites via melt blending, aiming to provide the option of an in situ pore-forming strategy. The introduction of HA not only significantly improved the hydrophilicity of the PBS matrix by reducing the hydrophilic contact angle by approximately 36% at a 10% content, but also damaged the integrity of the PBS crystal. Both were beneficial for the penetration of phosphate-buffered saline solution into matrix and the acceleration of MPT release. Accompanied with MPT release, porous structures were formed in situ, and the HA inside the matrix was exposed. With the increase in HA content, the MPT release rate accelerated and the pore size became larger. The in vitro cytocompatibility evaluation indicated that HA/PBS/MPT composites were conductive to the adhesion, growth, and proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells due to the HA being exposed around the pores. Thus, the MPT release rate, pore size, and cell induction ability of the HA/PBS/MPT composites were flexibly and effectively adjusted by the composition at the same time. By introducing HA, we innovatively achieved the construction of porous structures during the drug release process, without the addition of pore-forming agents. This approach allows the drug delivery system to combine controllable drug release and biocompatibility effectively, offering a novel method for bone repair material preparation. This work might provide a convenient and robust strategy for the fabrication of bone scaffolds with controllable drug release and porous structures.

In this paper, we study analytical approximate solutions for second-order homogeneous differential equations with the existence of only two turning points (but without poles) by using the uniform asymptotic approximation (UAA) method. To be more concrete, we consider the Pöschl–Teller (PT) potential, for which analytical solutions are known. Depending on the values of the parameters involved in the PT potential, we find that the upper bounds of the errors of the approximate solutions in general are ≲0.15∼10% for the first-order approximation of the UAA method. The approximations can be easily extended to high orders, for which the errors are expected to be much smaller. Such obtained analytical solutions can be used to study cosmological perturbations in the framework of quantum cosmology as well as quasi-normal modes of black holes.

Many methods have been developed to study nonparametric function-on-function regression models. Nevertheless, there is a lack of model selection approach to the regression function as a functional function with functional covariate inputs. To study interaction effects among these functional covariates, in this article, we first construct a tensor product space of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and build an analysis of variance (ANOVA) decomposition of the tensor product space. We then use a model selection method with the L1 criterion to estimate the functional function with functional covariate inputs and detect interaction effects among the functional covariates. The proposed method is evaluated using simulations and stroke rehabilitation data.

Buried pipelines are commonly damaged when laid across strike-slip faults, always leading to some level of destruction with fault movement. The moment of the neutral axis of a pipe section was obtained by integration, and the equations for the bending moment and the bending strain on a pipeline’s section were presented here, based on a trilinear stress–strain model. The calculation method for the lateral soil pressure and pipeline’s bending strain near the fault-crossing point was improved. Lateral soil pressure was regarded as being related to lateral pipeline movement and, for accurate calculation, this part of the pipeline was divided into finite element segments. An iterative process for solving for pipe bending strain was derived, and the algorithm and program for calculating bending strain and the potential damage position of the pipeline’s sections was compiled based on Matlab software. In view of the difficulty in controlling the surrounding rock stability of deep cross-measure roadways, a deep cross-measure roadway of the Wanfu coal mine, a typical high-stress mine, was monitored on site and analyzed under the original support scheme. The findings show that the degrees of deformation and failure of the cross-measure roadway varied under different working conditions and that the roadway deformation and failure were mainly characterized by a high fragmentation degree and a large failure range of the surrounding rock and the frequent failure of support components. Considering that the different parts of the cross-measure roadway are located in different lithostratigraphic units, establishing a numerical model of the cross-measure roadway under different working conditions; analyzing the deformation pattern of the surrounding rock of the roadway, the plastic range, and the morphological change pattern; and clarifying the deformation and failure mechanisms of the cross-measure roadway based on field monitoring results. On this basis, two types of evaluation indicators, that is, the deformations of the surrounding rock and the plastic ranges in the four typical parts (roof, shoulder, floor, and sidewalls) of the roadway, were selected to rate the stability of the roadway under different working conditions. Grouting reinforcement-based targeted control countermeasures are proposed to improve the surrounding rock stability. Subsequently, numerical analysis and field application of these control countermeasures were carried out to solve the problem of controlling the surrounding rock stability of deep cross-measure roadways.

Objective: Inflammation and oxidative stress play critical roles in sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI). Sprout4 (Spry4) is involved in regulating inflammation and tissue injury; however, its role and mechanism in sepsis-induced ALI remain elusive. Methods: Macrophage-specific Spry4 knockout (Spry4MKO), transgenic (Spry4MTG) mice and matched control littermates were generated and exposed to cecum ligation and puncture (CLP) surgery to establish bacterial sepsis-induced ALI. Bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) from Spry4MKO or Spry4MTG mice were isolated and subjected to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation to further validate the role of Spry4 in vitro. To verify the necessity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), Spry4 and AMPK double knockout mice and compound C were used in vivo and in vitro. BMDMs were treated with STO-609 to inhibit calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase 2 (CaMKK2). Results: We found that macrophage Spry4 was increased in CLP mice and positively correlated with sepsis-induced ALI. Macrophage Spry4 deficiency prevented, while macrophage Spry4 overexpression exacerbated sepsis-induced inflammation, oxidative stress and ALI in mice and BMDMs. Mechanistic studies revealed that macrophage Spry4 deficiency alleviated sepsis-induced ALI through activating CaMKK2/AMPK pathway. Conclusion: Our study identify macrophage Spry4 as a promising predictive and therapeutic target of sepsis-induced ALI.

An interesting application of the link prediction technique is detecting the potential new links in collaboration networks. In this study, we construct collaboration networks based on the co-authorship information of the papers published in 43 statistical journals from 2001 to 2018. We construct training and testing networks according to the timestamps of the papers and construct a classification dataset for link prediction. We calculate 20 similarity indices based on the training network to perform link prediction. Additionally, we consider nodal attributes (institutes and research interests) to develop two novel predictors called the same institute (SIN) and keywords match count (KMC). Several machine-learning classifiers including support vector machine, XGBoost and random forest are implemented to combine all predictors. After incorporating SIN and KMC, we observe that the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of all classifiers improved, indicating that SIN and KMC can significantly improve classification accuracy. Finally, we provide collaborative recommendations for researchers based on the proposed model.

Five new species (Gastrochilus yei, Gastrochilus minimus, Luisia simaoensis, Taeniophyllum xizangense, Tuberolabium subulatum) and two newly recorded species (Cleisostoma tricornutum, Luisia inconspicua) of Vandeae (Orchidaceae) from China are described and illustrated. Gastrochilus yei is similar to G. affinis and G. nepalensis, but differs from them by having an epichile not lobed, the apex of the hypochile not bilobed, and a tine on the apex of the leaf. Gastrochilus minimus is similar to G. acinacifolius, but can be distinguished from the latter by having a flabellate epichile that is densely hirsute on the adaxial surface and an inconspicuous central cushion; in addition, the hypochile of G. minimus has a keel that extends to the apex of the epichile. Taeniophyllum xizangense is similar to T. stella and T. radiatum, but it is distinguished from them by having much bigger flowers, inflorescences densely covered with short-bristly hairs, papillae on the external surface of sepals, and bigger triangular-ovate viscidium. Luisia simaoensis is similar to L. magniflora and L. ramosii, but can be easily distinguished from them by having lateral sepals longer than dorsal sepals and petals, lip with irregular and waved margins, and lip with bilobed apex. Luisia inconspicua is moved from Gastrochilus to Luisia based on phylogenetic analyses of plastid matK sequence data. Tuberolabium subulatum is similar to T. carnosum, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by having an inflorescence much shorter than the leaves, yellow sepals and petals, and many small papillae outside the lip lobes.

IntroductionEpithelioid glioblastoma (eGBM) is one of the rare glioblastoma (GBM) variants in the current World Health Organization (WHO) categorization of central nervous system (CNS) tumours. However, the diagnostic basis and molecular features of eGBM have not been clearly defined to date. In this study, we aimed to molecularly characterize these tumours.MethodsThe clinicopathological, molecular, and immunohistochemical characteristics of 12 cases of eGBM were investigated.ResultsThe tumours were found to be made up of epithelioid and rhabdoid cells when examined under a microscope. Six cases (50%) harboured the BRAF V600E mutation, and NF1 mutation was detected in 2 eGBM cases (16.7%). CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion was seen in 5 cases (41.7%). TP53 mutation was recognized in 2 instances (16.7%), and TERT promoter mutation was recognized in 5 cases (41.7%).DiscussioneGBM is characterized by high molecular heterogeneity and has molecular overlaps between low-grade gliomas. Moreover, rather than being a variant or entity, the biological significance of the "epithelioid" appearance may be reduced to a simply morphological pattern. In order to target the proper treatment to suitable patients, molecular stratification via genome-wide molecular profiling will be crucial.

Many factors affect the prognosis of patients undergoing tumor surgery, and anesthesia is one of the potential influencing factors. In general anesthesia, inhalation anesthesia is widely used in the clinic because of its strong curative effect and high controllability. However, the effect of inhalation anesthetics on the tumor is still controversial. More and more research has proved that inhalation anesthetics can intervene in local recurrence and distant metastasis of tumor by acting on tumor biological behavior, immune response, and gene regulation. In this paper, we reviewed the research progress of diverse inhalation anesthetics promoting or inhibiting cancer in the critical events of tumor recurrence and metastasis, and compared the effects of inhalation anesthetics on patients' prognosis in clinical studies, to provide theoretical reference for anesthesia management of patients undergoing tumor surgery.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), composed of metal nodes and inorganic linkers, are promising for a wide range of applications due to their unique periodic frameworks. Understanding structure–activity relationships can facilitate the development of new MOFs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a powerful technique to characterize the microstructures of MOFs at the atomic scale. In addition, it is possible to directly visualize the microstructural evolution of MOFs in real time under working conditions via in situ TEM setups. Although MOFs are sensitive to high-energy electron beams, much progress has been made due to the development of advanced TEM. In this review, we first introduce the main damage mechanisms for MOFs under electron-beam irradiation and two strategies to minimize these damages: low-dose TEM and cryo-TEM. Then we discuss three typical techniques to analyze the microstructure of MOFs, including three-dimensional electron diffraction, imaging using direct-detection electron-counting cameras, and iDPC-STEM. Groundbreaking milestones and research advances of MOFs structures obtained with these techniques are highlighted. In situ TEM studies are reviewed to provide insights into the dynamics of MOFs induced by various stimuli. Additionally, perspectives are analyzed for promising TEM techniques in the research of MOFs’ structures.

Transparent hard and brittle (THB) materials have generated significant interest due to their excellent properties, such as wide spectral transmittance, heat resistance, chemical inactivity and high mechanical strength. To further explore the application of THB materials, it is inevitable to be confronted with a range of joining THB materials and THB material–metals. Ultrafast (UF) laser microwelding enables a new means of joining THB materials and THB material–metals, due to a localized energy deposition method, which is dominated by nonlinear absorption. This process can realize high-quality micro-zone direct joining of THB materials or THB material–metals without the assistance of a light-absorbing intermediate layer. In this paper, we review the advances in UF laser microwelding of THB materials and THB material–metals considering the last two decades, from the analysis of the interaction mechanism between UF laser and matter to the key influencing factors and practical applications of this technology. Finally, the existing problems and the future research focus of UF laser microwelding technology of THB materials and THB material–metals are discussed.

Organic phototransistors (OPTs) as optical chemical sensors have progressed excitingly in recent years, mainly due to the development of new materials, new device structures, and device interfacial engineering. Exploiting the maximum potential of low-cost and high-throughput fabrication of organic electronics and optoelectronics requires devices that can be manufactured in a fully printed way that also have a low operation voltage. In this work, we demonstrate a fully printed fabrication process that enables the realization of a high-yield (~90%) and low-voltage OPT array. By solution printing of a high-quality organic crystalline thin film on the pre-printed electrodes, we create a van der Waals contact between the metal and organic semiconductor, resulting in a small subthreshold swing of 445 mV dec−1 with a signal amplification efficiency over 5.58 S A−1. Our OPTs thus exhibit both a low operation voltage of −1 V and a high photosensitivity over 5.7 × 105, making these devices suitable for a range of applications requiring low power consumption. We further demonstrate the capability of the low-voltage OPT array for imaging and show high imaging contrasts. These results indicate that our fabrication process may provide an entry into integrated and low-power organic optoelectronic circuits fabricated by scalable and cost-effective methods for real-world applications.

BackgroundStudies on the efficacy of acupuncture and auricular acupressure on sleep disturbances in cancer patients have been growing, but there is no specific and comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis. This review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture and auricular acupressure on sleep disturbances in cancer survivors based on existing randomized clinical trials (RCTs).MethodsFour English-language and four Chinese-language biomedical databases were searched for RCTs published from database inception to July 30, 2021. RCTs comparing acupuncture and auricular acupressure with sham control, drug therapy, behavior therapy, or usual care for managing cancer were included. The quality of RCTs was appraised with the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias (ROB) tool. Mean differences (MDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for the effect sizes.ResultsThirteen RCTs with 961 patients were included. The risk of performance bias or reporting bias for most of the included trials was high or unclear. Evidence was not found for short-term effects on sleep scales compared to sham control (MD, 1.98; 95% CI, 0.33–3.64; p = 0.02; I2 = 36%), wait list control (MD, 0.40; 95% CI, −0.87–1.68; p = 0.54; I2 = 49%), drug therapy (MD, 1.18; 95% CI, −3.09–5.46; p = 0.59; I2 = 98%). For long-term effect, two sham-controlled RCTs showed no significance of acupuncture on insomnia scale scores (MD, 1.71; 95% CI, −2.38–5.81; p = 0.41; I2 = 89%). Subgroup analyses suggested no evidence that auricular acupressure (MD, 3.14; 95% CI=1.52, 4.76; p = 0.0001; I2 = 0%) or acupuncture (MD, 0.54; 95% CI=−1.27, 2.34; p = 0.56; I2 = 0%) was associated with the reduction in insomnia scale scores.ConclusionsThis systematic review and meta-analysis found no evidence about acupuncture or auricular acupressure in the improvement of sleep disturbances in cancer survivors in terms of short- or long-term effect. Adverse events were minor. The finding was inconsistent with previous research and suggested that more well-designed and large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to identify the efficacy of acupuncture and auricular acupressure for sleep disturbances in cancer survivors.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, CRD42020171612.

Drought stress is a common environmental stress, which adversely affects the yield and quality of crops. Due to its excellent drought tolerance, wild barley from the Middle East region is considered a valuable source for barley improvement. Here, we compared the growth rate, stomatal regulation and capacity to metabolize reactive oxygen species (ROS) of two barley cultivars and one wild barley accession. The results indicated the wild barley EC_S1 showed a more significant decline in stomatal aperture and less ROS production. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that EC_S1 has slower transcriptional regulation (5,050 DEGs) in the early stage of drought stress (14 days) than Baudin (7,022 DEGs) and Tadmor (6,090 DEGs). In addition, 30 hub genes, including nine known drought-related genes were identified by WGCNA analysis. Then, we cloned a novel bZIP transcription factor, HvbZIP21, from EC_S1. HvbZIP21 was subcellularly targeted to the nucleus. Overexpression of HvbZIP21 in Arabidopsis enhanced drought tolerance due to increasing activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase activities as well as glutathione content. Silencing of HvbZIP21 in EC_S1 suppressed drought tolerance in BSMV:HvbZIP21-inoculated plants. Taken together, our findings suggest that HvbZIP21 play a critical role in drought tolerance by manipulating ROS scavenging.

The use of local anesthetics during surgical treatment of cancer patients is an important part of perioperative analgesia. In recent years, it has been showed that local anesthetics can directly or indirectly affect the progression of tumors. In vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that local anesthetics reduced cancer recurrence. The etiology of this effect is likely multifactorial. Numerous mechanisms were proposed based on the local anesthetic used and the type of cancer. Mechanisms center on NaV1.5 channels, Ras homolog gene family member A, cell cycle, endothelial growth factor receptor, calcium Influx, microRNA and mitochondrial, in combination with hyperthermia and transient receptor potential melastatin 7 channels. Local anesthetics significantly decrease the proliferation of cancers, including ovarian, breast, prostate, thyroid, colon, glioma, and histiocytic lymphoma cell cancers, by activating cell death signaling and decreasing survival pathways. We also summarized clinical evidence and randomized trial data to confirm that local anesthetics inhibited tumor progression.

Information on SARS-CoV-2 asymptomatic infection and infectivity in children is limited. In this study, we aimed to report the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of a familial cluster infection including children with SARS-CoV-2. On February 1, 2020, two children(case 1 and case 2), an 8-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, were admitted to the isolation ward in Xiangyang Central Hospital, Hubei province, China, with the diagnosis of COVID-19. Before admission, they had been staying at home with their father and never contacted with any confirmed patients except their mother (case 3) who returned from Wuhan on January 22. Both case 1 and case 2 got mild symptoms. Case 3 did not develop any symptoms until February 6, 2020, with an asymptomatic period of 15 days. She was transferred to ICU and administered multiple treatment according to the disease progression and chest CT manifestations. Her nucleic acid test turned positive until Feb 21, 2020, 15 days after symptoms onset, 30 days after her return from Wuhan. Our data showed that patients with SARS-CoV-2 may have the ability to transmit during their asymptomatic period even with the negative of viral nucleic acid in pharyngeal swabs.

Introduction MicroRNAs (miRs) are small noncoding RNAs which are regulators of gene expression and also regulate the genes in heart tissues. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of miRs on the expression level of myosin heavy chain (MHC), which is responsible for regulation of cardiac functions in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes and mice. Material and methods The miRs were suppressed in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes using small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) against Dicer followed by evaluation of MHC levels. For in vivo study the C57 black/6 Jacksonian mice were subjected to the transverse aortic constriction (TAC) procedure. Results The Dicer siRNA suppressed the endogenous miRs and the α-MHC gene but failed to down-regulate the β-MHC. Among the 17 selected miRs, miR-29a was found to up-regulate the α-MHC gene significantly but not β-MHC. The expression of α-MHC was suppressed by silencing the expression of miR-29a. Bioinformatics study done by TargetScan suggested thyroid hormone receptor-β1 (TR-β1) as a potential target of miR-29a. Additionally, miR-29a was found to regulate the expression of α-MHC via TR-β1 signaling. Conclusions The findings of the present study indicated that miR-29a modulates expression of α-the MHC gene by targeting TR-β1 in cardiac cells. The study may provide a new direction for treating cardiac failure and cardiac hypertrophy.

Recently, heterojunction photodetectors have attracted significant interest due to the multiple degrees of freedom reorganization, integrating advantages of different typed materials. Herein, a high‐performance photodetector based on a 3D Dirac semimetal Cd3As2/tungsten disulfide (WS2) heterojunction is demonstrated, which is constructed by directly transferring exfoliated 2D few layer WS2 on Cd3As2 nano‐belt and following by annealing treatment. The resulting Cd3As2/WS2 heterojunction device presents superior performance with a high on/off ratio (≈5.3 × 104) and a responsivity (Ri) of about 223.5 AW−1 at 520 nm, as well as an outstanding detectivity (D*) of about 2.05 × 1014 Jones at 808 nm near‐IR waveband. However, the optimized noise equivalent power (NEP) is evaluated about 6.17 × 10−14 WHz−1/2 by the noise power density spectrum. The excellent performance can be attributed to a high‐quality heterostructure interface, strong light absorption capacity, and ultralow dark current in a Cd3As2/WS2 heterojunction system. This work provides a promising platform to develop a high‐performance optoelectronic device based on 3D Dirac semimetal and 2D TMDs families.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a thermoplastic polyester with numerous applications in industry. However, it requires surface modification on an industrial scale for printing and coating processes and plasma treatment is one of the most commonly used techniques to increase the hydrophilicity of the PET films. Systematic improvement of the surface modification by adaption of the plasma process can be aided by a comprehensive understanding of the surface morphology and chemistry. However, imaging large surface areas (tens of microns) with a resolution that allows understanding the surface quality and modification is challenging. As a proof-of-principle, plasma-treated PET films were used to demonstrate the capabilities of X-ray ptychography, currently under development at the soft X-ray free-electron laser FLASH at DESY, for imaging macroscopic samples. In combination with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), this new technique was used to study the effects of different plasma treatment processes on PET plastic films. The studies on the surface morphology were complemented by investigations of the surface chemistry using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). While both imaging techniques consistently showed an increase in roughness and change in morphology of the PET films after plasma treatment, X-ray ptychography can provide additional information on the three-dimensional morphology of the surface. At the same time, the chemical analysis shows an increase in the oxygen content and polarity of the surface without significant damage to the polymer, which is important for printing and coating processes.

Abstract Background Waterlogging is one of the main abiotic stresses that limit wheat production. Quantitative proteomics analysis has been applied in the study of crop abiotic stress as an effective way in recent years (e.g. salt stress, drought stress, heat stress and waterlogging stress). However, only a few proteins related to primary metabolism and signal transduction, such as UDP - glucose dehydrogenase, UGP, beta glucosidases, were reported to response to waterlogging stress in wheat. The differentially expressed proteins between genotypes of wheat in response to waterlogging are less-defined. In this study, two wheat genotypes, one is sensitive to waterlogging stress (Seri M82, named as S) and the other is tolerant to waterlogging (CIGM90.863, named as T), were compared in seedling roots under hypoxia conditions to evaluate the different responses at proteomic level. Results A total of 4560 proteins were identified and the number of differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were 361, 640, 788 in S and 33, 207, 279 in T in 1, 2, 3 days, respectively. These DEPs included 270 common proteins, 681 S-specific and 50 T-specific proteins, most of which were misc., protein processing, DNA and RNA processing, amino acid metabolism and stress related proteins induced by hypoxia. Some specific proteins related to waterlogging stress, including acid phosphatase, oxidant protective enzyme, S-adenosylmethionine synthetase 1, were significantly different between S and T. A total of 20 representative genes encoding DEPs, including 7 shared DEPs and 13 cultivar-specific DEPs, were selected for further RT-qPCR analysis. Fourteen genes showed consistent dynamic expression patterns at mRNA and protein levels. Conclusions Proteins involved in primary metabolisms and protein processing were inclined to be affected under hypoxia stress. The negative effects were more severe in the sensitive genotype. The expression patterns of some specific proteins, such as alcohol dehydrogenases and S-adenosylmethionine synthetase 1, could be applied as indexes for improving the waterlogging tolerance in wheat. Some specific proteins identified in this study will facilitate the subsequent protein function validation and biomarker development.

Saussurea medusa is an important traditional Tibetan medicinal plant in China. In this study, we assembled the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of S. medusa. The complete S. medusa chloroplast genome is a circular molecular structure of 152,257 bp in length with coding GC 37.93%, consisting of two inverted repeats (25,204 bp) separated by a large single-copy region (83,334 bp) and a small single-copy region (18,515 bp). The complete chloroplast genome of S. medusa contained 130 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 35 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis shows that S. medusa is most closely related to Saussurea inversa and Saussurea pseudoleucoma. The complete chloroplast genome sequence of S. medusa facilitates the phylogenetic studies of Asteraceae.

Sweet potato is a hexaploid heterozygote with a complex genetic background, self-pollination infertility, and cross incompatibility, which makes genetic linkage analysis quite difficult. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) provide a new strategy for gene mapping and cloning in sweet potato. Storage root flesh color (SRFC) is an important sensory evaluation, which correlates with storage root flesh composition, such as starch, anthocyanin, and carotenoid. We performed GWAS using SRFC data of 300 accessions and 567,828 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. Furthermore, we analyzed transcriptome data of different SRFC varieties, and conducted real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) to measure the expression level of the candidate gene in purple and non-purple fleshed sweet potato genotypes. The results showed that five unique SNPs were significantly (−log10P > 7) associated with SRFC. Based on these trait-associated SNPs, four candidate genes, g55964 (IbF3′H), g17506 (IbBAG2-like), g25206 (IbUGT-73D1-like), and g58377 (IbVQ25-isoform X2) were identified. Expression profiles derived from transcriptome data and qRT-PCR analyses showed that the expression of g55964 in purple-fleshed sweet potato was significantly (p < 0.01) higher than that of non-purple fleshed sweet potato. By combining the GWAS, transcriptomic analysis and qRT-PCR, we inferred that g55964 is the key gene related to purple formation of storage root in sweet potato. Our results lay the foundation for accelerating sweet potato genetic improvement of anthocyanin through marker-assisted selection.

A simple, selective, and quantitative platform for point-of-care diagnostic of COVID-19 is urgently needed as a complement in areas where resources are currently relatively scarce. To meet the needs of early diagnosis and intervention, a proof-of-concept demonstration of a universal personal glucose meter-based nucleic acid assay platform (PGM-NAAP) is presented, which converts to SARS-CoV-2 detection from glucose detection. By using magnetic bead separation together with the hand-held PGM for quantitative readout, PGM-NAAP achieves the 98 pM limit of detection for a sequence related to SARS-CoV-2. The ability to discriminate target nucleic acid from genomic DNA, the satisfactory spike recoveries of saliva and serum samples, as well as the good stability all together suggest the potential of the PGM-NAAP for the screening and diagnosis of suspected patients during the outbreaks of COVID-19 in resource-limited settings without sophisticated instruments. On the basis of these findings, PGM-NAAP can be expected to provide an accurate and convenient path for diagnosis of disease-associated nucleic acid.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a chronic liver disease associated with dysregulation of liver metabolism and inflammation. G-protein coupled bile acid receptor 1 (TGR5) is a cell surface receptor that is involved in multiple metabolic pathways. However, the functions of TGR5 in regulating macrophage innate immune activation in NASH remain unclear. Here, we found that TGR5 expression was decreased in liver tissues from humans and mice with NASH. Compared to wild type (WT) mice, TGR5-knockout (TGR5−/−) mice exhibited exacerbated liver damage, increased levels of proinflammatory factors, and enhanced M1 macrophage polarization. Moreover, TGR5 deficiency facilitated M1 macrophage polarization by promoting NLRP3 inflammasome activation and caspase-1 cleavage. Taken together, our findings revealed that TGR5 signaling attenuated liver steatosis and inflammation and inhibited NLRP3-mediated M1 macrophage polarization in NASH.

The inflow forecasting is one of the most important technologies for modern hydropower station. Under the joint influence of soil, upstream inflow, and precipitation, the inflow is often characterized by time lag, nonlinearity, and uncertainty and then results in the difficulty of accurate multistep prediction of inflow. To address the coupling relationship between inflow and the related factors, this paper proposes a long short-term memory deep learning model based on the Bagging algorithm (Bagging-LSTM) to predict the inflows of future 3 h, 12 h, and 24 h, respectively. To validate the proposed model, the inflow and related weather data come from a hydropower station in southern China. Compared with the classical time series models, the results show that the proposed model outperforms them on different accuracy metrics, especially in the scenario of multistep prediction.

Coherent terahertz control of magnetization dynamics is an area of current interest due to its great potential for the realization of magnetization control on ultrafast timescales in commercial devices. Here we report on an experiment realized at the THz beamline of the free electron laser FLASH at DESY which offers a tunable terahertz radiation source and spontaneously synchronized free-electron laser X-ray pulses to resonantly probe the magnetization state of a ferromagnetic film. In this proof-of-principle experiment, we have excited a thin Permalloy film at different THz wavelengths and recorded the induced magnetization dynamics with photons resonantly tuned to the Ni M2,3 absorption edge. For THz pump pulses including higher orders of the undulator source we observed demagnetization dynamics, which precise shape depended on the employed fundamental wavelength of the undulator source. Analyzing the shape in detail, we can reconstruct the temporal profile of the electric field of the THz pump pulse. This offers a new method for the realization of an in-situ terahertz beamline diagnostic which will help researchers to adjust the pulse characteristics as needed, for example, for future studies of THz induced coherent control of magnetization dynamics.

Nowadays, it is common to see large public buildings, e.g., stadiums, with some equipment or substructure suspended from the center of the roof. These substructures will tend to be larger and heavier the more gear is needed, which may have negative impacts on the dynamic performance of the roof structures. In this paper, to explore the dynamic response of a large-span roof structure with a suspended substructure, a real structure model is simplified into a two-degrees-of-freedom system. The essential consideration of nonlinear vibration is elaborated in the equations of motions. Approximate analytical solutions for free and forced vibrations are derived using perturbation methods, while numerical analysis is carried out to validate the solutions. The ratio of linear to nonlinear amplitude is proposed to represent the nonlinear effect of the primary structure, and the nonlinear effect, varying with structural parameters of frequency ratio, mass ratio, excitation ratio, and external force to the primary structure, is investigated. It is shown that internal resonance occurs when the structural frequency ratio is close to 1:2 and that secondary resonance takes place due to certain external excitations; internal resonance and secondary resonance will magnify the amplitude of the primary structure during vibration. Finally, a case of a designed practical dome with a suspended substructure is studied to verify the outcomes from the above research. According to these findings, some design proposals for this type of structure are provided.

The electronic oxygen regulator (EOR) is a new type of aviation oxygen equipment which uses electronic servo control technology to control breathing gas pressure. In this paper, the control method of EOR was studied, and the dynamic model of the aviation oxygen system was established. A disturbance-observer-based controller (DOBC) was designed by the backstepping method to achieve the goal of stable and fast breath pressure control. The sensitivity function was proposed to describe the effect of inspiratory flow on breath pressure. Combined with the frequency domain analysis of the input sensitivity function, the parameters of the DOBC were analyzed and designed. Simulation and experiment studies were carried out to examine the control performance of DOBC in respiratory resistance and positive pressurization process under the influence of noise and time delay in the discrete electronic control system, which could meet the aviation physiology requirements. The research results not only verified the rationality of the application of DOBC in the breath control of EOR, but also proved the effectiveness of the control parameters design method according to the frequency domain analysis, which provided an important design basis for the subsequent study of EOR.

Microbial secondary metabolites (MSMs) have played and continue to play a highly significant role in the drug discovery and development process. Genetically, MSM chemical structures are biologically synthesized by microbial gene clusters. Recently, however, the speed of new bioactive MSM discovery has been slowing down due to consistent employment of conventional cultivation and isolation procedure. In order to alleviate this challenge, a number of new approaches have been developed. The strategy of one strain many compounds (OSMAC) has been shown as a simple and powerful tool that can activate many silent biogenetic gene clusters in microorganisms to make more natural products. This review highlights important and successful examples using OSMAC approaches, which covers changing medium composition and cultivation status, co-cultivation with other strain(s), adding enzyme inhibitor(s) and MSM biosynthetic precursor(s). Available evidences had shown that variation of cultivation condition is the most effective way to produce more MSMs and facilitate the discovery of new therapeutic agents.

This article provides the dataset of both the LiFePO4 type lithium-ion battery (LIB) behavior and the Maxwell ultracapacitor behavior. The dynamic stress test (DST) condition and the urban dynamometer driving schedule (UDDS) condition were carried out to analyze the battery/ultracapacitor features. The datasets were achieved at room temperature, in August, 2016. The shared data contributes to clarify the behavior of the LIBs and ultracapacitors and can be used to predict the state-of-charge (SOC) of the LIBs and ultracapacitors, which is also shown in the article of “Modeling and state-of-charge prediction of lithium-ion battery and ultracapacitor hybrids with a co-estimator” (United States Advanced Battery Consortium, 1996) [1].

The chemical investigation of one symbiotic strain, Aspergillus fumigatus D, from the coastal plant Edgeworthia chrysantha Lindl led to the isolation of eight compounds (1–8), which were respectively identified as rubrofusarin B (1), alternariol 9-O-methyl ether (2), fonsecinone D (3), asperpyrone A (4), asperpyrone D (5), fonsecinone B (6), fonsecinone A (7), and aurasperone A (8) by a combination of spectroscopic methods (1D NMR and ESI-MS) as well as by comparison with the literature data. An antimicrobial assay showed that these aromatic polyketides exhibited no remarkable inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Staphyloccocus aureus and Candida albicans. The genomic feature of strain D was analyzed, as well as its biosynthetic gene clusters, using antibiotics and Secondary Metabolite Analysis Shell 5.1.2 (antiSMASH). Plausible biosynthetic pathways for dimeric naphtho-γ-pyrones 3–8 were first proposed in this work. A non-reducing polyketide synthase (PKS) gene D8.t287 responsible for the biosynthesis of these aromatic polyketides 1–8 was identified and characterized by target gene knockout experiment and UPLC-MS analysis.

Curcumin has been shown to significantly improve spatial memory impairment induced by HIV-1 gp120 V3 in rats, but the electrophysiological mechanism remains unknown. Using extracellular microelectrode recording techniques, this study confirmed that the gp120 V3 loop could suppress long-term potentiation in the rat hippocampal CA1 region and synaptic plasticity, and that curcumin could antagonize these inhibitory effects. Using a Fura-2/AM calcium ion probe, we found that curcumin resisted the effects of the gp120 V3 loop on hippocampal synaptosomes and decreased Ca 2+ concentration in synaptosomes. This effect of curcumin was identical to nimodipine, suggesting that curcumin improved the inhibitory effects of gp120 on synaptic plasticity, ameliorated damage caused to the central nervous system, and might be a potential neuroprotective drug.
