Training Deep Learning (DL) models require large, high-quality datasets, often assembled with data from different institutions. Federated Learning (FL) has been emerging as a method for privacy-preserving pooling of datasets employing collaborative training from different institutions by iteratively globally aggregating locally trained models. One critical performance challenge of FL is operating on datasets not independently and identically distributed (non-IID) among the federation participants. Even though this fragility cannot be eliminated, it can be debunked by a suitable optimization of two hyper-parameters: layer normalization methods and collaboration frequency selection. In this work, we benchmark five different normalization layers for training Neural Networks (NNs), two families of non-IID data skew, and two datasets. Results show that Batch Normalization, widely employed for centralized DL, is not the best choice for FL, whereas Group and Layer Normalization consistently outperform Batch Normalization. Rotorcraft technologies pose great scientific and industrial challenges for numerical computing. As available computational resources approach the exascale, finer scales and therefore more accurate simulations of engineering test cases become accessible. However, shifting legacy workflows and optimizing parallel efficiency and scalability of existing software on new hardware is often demanding. This paper reports preliminary results in CFD and structural dynamics simulations using the T106A Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) blade geometry on Leonardo S.p.A.'s davinci-1 high-performance computing (HPC) facility. Time to solution and scalability are assessed for commercial packages Ansys Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and ABAQUS, and the open-source scientific computing framework PyFR. In direct numerical simulations of compressible fluid flow, normalized time to solution values obtained using PyFR are found to be up to 8 times smaller than those obtained using Fluent and STAR-CCM+. The findings extend to the incompressible case. All models offer weak and strong scaling in tests performed on up to 48 compute nodes, each with 4 Nvidia A100 GPUs. In linear elasticity simulations with ABAQUS, both the iterative solver and the direct solver provide speedup in preliminary scaling tests, with the iterative solver outperforming the direct solver in terms of time-to-solution and memory usage. Monopole bubbling contributions to supersymmetric 't Hooft loops in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories are computed by SQM indices. As recently argued, those indices are hard to compute due to the presence of Coulomb vacua that are not captured by standard localization techniques. We propose an algorithmic method to compute the full bubbling contributions that circumvent this issue, by considering SQM with more matter fields and isolating the bubbling terms as residues in flavor fugacities. The enlarged SQMs are read from brane configurations realizing the bubbling sector of a given 't Hooft loop. We apply our technique to loop operators in $\mathcal{N}=2$ conformal SQCD theories. In addition we embed this discussion in the larger setup of a 5d-4d system interacting along a line, associated to the brane systems previously discussed. We propose and test exact quantization conditions for the $N$-particle quantum elliptic Ruijsenaars-Schneider integrable system, as well as its Calogero-Moser limit, based on the conjectural correspondence to the five-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 1$ $SU(N)$ gauge theory in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit. We discuss two natural sets of quantization conditions, related by the electro-magnetic duality, and the importance of non-perturbative corrections in the Planck constant. We study the action of S-duality on half-BPS Wilson loop operators in 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ theories. The duality is the statement that different massive deformations of a single 5d SCFT are described by different gauge theories, or equivalently that the SCFT points in parameter space of two gauge theories coincide. The pairs of dual theories that we study are realized by brane webs in type IIB string theory that are S-dual to each other. We focus on $SU(2)$ SQCD theories with $N_f \le 4$ flavors, which are self-dual, and on $SU(3)$ SQCD theories, which are dual to $SU(2)^2$ quiver theories. From string theory engineering we predict that Wilson loops are mapped to dual Wilson loops under S-duality. We confirm the predictions with exact computations of Wilson loop VEVs, which we extract from the 5d half-index in the presence of auxiliary loop operators (also known as higher qq-characters) sourced by D3 branes placed in the brane webs. A special role is played by Wilson loops in tensor products of the (anti)fundamental representation, which provide a natural basis to express the S-duality action. We study Wilson surface defects in 6d $\mathcal{N}=(2,0)$ superconformal field theories, engineered by semi-infinite M2-branes intersecting M5-branes. Two independent approaches are used to obtain the Wilson surface observables on the $T^2$ inside Omega-deformed $\mathbf{R}^4 \times T^2$. One approach is to compute 5d $\mathcal{N}=1^*$ instanton partition functions in the presence of Wilson lines, where the instanton corrections capture the 6d Kaluza-Klein momentum modes. The other approach is to study the elliptic genera of 2d $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ gauge theories, which we propose as describing 6d self-dual strings in the presence of Wilson surface defects. We make a detailed comparison between these two independent computations, which precisely agree for Wilson surfaces in minuscule representations; for non-minuscule representations instead we only find partial agreement, due to technical problems which we comment about., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables

We find $\mathcal{N}=1$ Lagrangian gauge theories that flow to generalized Argyres-Douglas theories with $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry. We find that certain SU quiver gauge theories flow to generalized Argyres-Douglas theories of type $(A_{k-1}, A_{mk-1})$ and $(I_{m, k m}, S)$. We also find quiver gauge theories of SO/Sp gauge groups flowing to the $(A_{2m-1}, D_{2mk+1})$, $(A_{2m}, D_{2m(k-1)+k})$ and $D_{m(2k+2)}^{m(2k+2)}[m]$ theories., Comment: 26 pages; v4: refs added

We provide a proposal, motivated by Separation of Variables and gauge theory arguments, for constructing exact solutions to the quantum Baxter equation associated to the $N$-particle relativistic Toda chain and test our proposal against numerical results. Quantum Mechanical non-perturbative corrections, essential in order to obtain a sensible solution, are taken into account in our gauge theory approach by considering codimension two defects on curved backgrounds (squashed $S^5$ and degenerate limits) rather than flat space; this setting also naturally incorporates exact quantization conditions and energy spectrum of the relativistic Toda chain as well as its modular dual structure., Comment: 85 pages, 6 tables, 21 figures

We elucidate the relation between Painlev\'e equations and four-dimensional rank one ${\cal N= 2}$ theories by identifying the connection associated to Painlev\'e isomonodromic problems with the oper limit of the flat connection of the Hitchin system associated to gauge theories and by studying the corresponding renormalisation group flow. Based on this correspondence we provide long-distance expansions at various canonical rays for all Painlev\'e functions in terms of magnetic and dyonic Nekrasov partition functions for ${\cal N= 2}$ SQCD and Argyres-Douglas theories at self-dual Omega background $\epsilon_1+\epsilon_2= 0$, or equivalently in terms of $c= 1$ irregular conformal blocks., Comment: 51 pages, 2 figures

Bethe/Gauge correspondence as it is usually stated is ill-defined in five dimensions and needs a "non-perturbative" completion; a related problem also appears in three dimensions. It has been suggested that this problem, probably due to incompleteness of Omega background regularization in odd dimension, may be solved if we consider gauge theory on compact $S^5$ and $S^3$ geometries. We will develop this idea further by giving a full Bethe/Gauge correspondence dictionary on $S^5$ and $S^3$ focussing mainly on the eigenfunctions of (open and closed) relativistic 2-particle Toda chain and its quantized spectral curve: these are most properly written in terms of non-perturbatively completed NS open topological strings. In this note we further develop the duality between supersymmetric gauge theories in various dimensions and elliptic integrable systems such as Ruijsenaars-Schneider model and periodic intermediate long wave hydrodynamics. These models arise in instanton counting problems and are described by certain elliptic algebras. We discuss the correspondence between the two types of models by employing the large-n limit of the dual gauge theory. We study the connection between periodic finite-difference Intermediate Long Wave hydrodynamical systems and integrable many-body models of Calogero and Ruijsenaars-type. The former describe quantum cohomology and quantum K-theory of the ADHM moduli space of Abelian instantons, while the latter arise in the the instanton counting in four and five dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories with eight supercharges in the presence of defects. Using string theory dualities we provide correspondences between hydrodynamical and many-body integrable systems. We study the connection between N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theories, quantum cohomology and quantum integrable systems of hydrodynamic type. We consider gauge theories on ALE spaces of A and D-type and discuss how they describe the quantum cohomology of the corresponding Nakajima's quiver varieties. We also discuss how the exact evaluation of local BPS observables in the gauge theory can be used to calculate the spectrum of quantum Hamiltonians of spin Calogero integrable systems and spin Intermediate Long Wave hydrodynamics. We show that the exact partition function of U(N) six-dimensional gauge theory with eight supercharges on C^2 x S^2 provides the quantization of the integrable system of hydrodynamic type known as gl(N) periodic Intermediate Long Wave (ILW). We characterize this system as the hydrodynamic limit of elliptic Calogero-Moser integrable system. We compute the Bethe equations from the effective gauged linear sigma model on S^2 with target space the ADHM instanton moduli space, whose mirror computes the Yang-Yang function of gl(N) ILW. The quantum Hamiltonians are given by the local chiral ring observables of the six-dimensional gauge theory. As particular cases, these provide the gl(N) Benjamin-Ono and Korteweg-de Vries quantum Hamiltonians. In the four dimensional limit, we identify the local chiral ring observables with the conserved charges of Heisenberg plus W_N algebrae, thus providing a gauge theoretical proof of AGT correspondence., Comment: 1 + 34 pages; v2: typos corrected

In this paper we identify the problem of equivariant vortex counting in a $(2,2)$ supersymmetric two dimensional quiver gauged linear sigma model with that of computing the equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of the GIT quotient target space determined by the quiver. We provide new contour integral formulae for the ${\cal I}$ and ${\cal J}$-functions encoding the equivariant quantum cohomology of the target space. Its chamber structure is shown to be encoded in the analytical properties of the integrand. This is explained both via general arguments and by checking several key cases. We show how several results in equivariant Gromov-Witten theory follow just by deforming the integration contour. In particular we apply our formalism to compute Gromov-Witten invariants of the $\mathbb{C}^3/\mathbb{Z}_n$ orbifold, of the Uhlembeck (partial) compactification of the moduli space of instantons on $\mathbb {C}^2$ and of $A_n$ and $D_n$ singularities both in the orbifold and resolved phases. We perform an exact computation of the gauged linear sigma model associated to a D1-D5 brane system on a resolved A_1 singularity. This is accomplished via supersymmetric localization on the blown-up two-sphere. We show that in the blow-down limit C^2/Z_2 the partition function reduces to the Nekrasov partition function evaluating the equivariant volume of the instanton moduli space. For finite radius we obtain a tower of world-sheet instanton corrections, that we identify with the equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of the ADHM moduli space. We show that these corrections can be encoded in a deformation of the Seiberg-Witten prepotential. From the mathematical viewpoint, the D1-D5 system under study displays a twofold nature: the D1-branes viewpoint captures the equivariant quantum cohomology of the ADHM instanton moduli space in the Givental formalism, and the D5-branes viewpoint is related to higher rank equivariant Donaldson-Thomas invariants of P^1 x C^2., Comment: 30+1 pages;v2: references added;v3: added comments, version to appear in JHEP
