7. The cooperative effect of load and disorder in thermally activated rupture of a two-dimensional random fuse network

Abstract

A random fuse network, or equivalently a two-dimensional spring network with quenched disorder, is subjected to a constant load and thermal noise, and studied by means of numerical simulations. Rupture is thermally activated and the lifetime follows an Arrhenius law where the energy barrier is reduced by disorder. Due to the non-homogeneous distribution of forces from the stress concentration at microcrack tips, spatial correlations between rupture events appear, but they do not affect the energy barrier's dependence on the disorder; they affect only the coupling between the disorder and the applied load.

Abstract

The average time for the onset of macroscopic fractures is analytically and numerically investigated in the fiber-bundle model with quenched disorder and thermal noise under a constant load. We find an implicit exact expression for the failure time in the low-temperature limit that is accurately confirmed by direct simulations. Abstract

Si les effets des champs électromagnétiques basses fréquences à court terme sont relativement connus, il n’existe pas actuellement de consensus sur les effets à long terme. Dans le cadre professionnel, la réglementation impose à l’employeur de procéder à une estimation du niveau d’exposition des travailleurs, dès lors que les niveaux de champ magnétique dépassent un certain seuil. Lorsqu’il est impossible de procéder autrement, il est nécessaire de calculer le champ électromagnétique à l’intérieur même du corps humain par des techniques de dosimétrie numérique. Ces techniques consiste à réaliser des simulations avec des modèles anatomiques très détaillés du corps humain appelés « fantômes ». Or, tous les fantômes existants sont donnés dans une position figée, debout avec les bras le long du corps. Il est donc nécessaire de disposer de nouveaux outils ou modèles permettant de simuler les interactions entre l’exposition en basse fréquence (50-100 kHz) et le corps humain, en fonction des postes occupés.

Abstract

International audience; The purpose of this work is to devise algorithms to reduce the memory consumption of the vector Preisach model in view of its usage in Finite Element analysis. Four algorithms, which all implement a vector Preisach hysteresis model, are presented and critically compared theoretically and by numerical experiments taken on with two materials and three signals. Several strategies are presented to reduce both the memory occupation and the computational cost of several orders of magnitude.

Abstract

We computed by finite element the fields induced in an heterogeneous model of the human body by both the electric and magnetic field generated by a three-phase power line. Results were partially validated and analyzed by comparison with existing data with uniform magnetic field. Induced currents due to both E and B were developed inside the body in an asymmetrical manner. Index Terms--Dosimetry, extremely low frequency (ELF), finite-element method, human body.

Abstract

This paper presents the use of the multiobjective particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique for the identification of Jiles--Atherton model parameters. This approach, implemented for the first time in order to solve this kind of problem, is tested for two magnetic materials: NO 3% SiFe and NiFe 20-80. The results are compared with those obtained with a direct search method and a genetic algorithm procedure. Experimental measures performed on both samples of materials allow us to complete and argue the validation for the PSO method. Abstract

The induced currents into the human body by a low-frequency magnetic field are computed using three-dimensional finite elements and a special [PHI]-A formulation. This magnetic field is generated by a real (possibly unknown) power system. The stray field is characterized by an equivalent multipole, fitted from some local measurements of the field, which is a good compromise between accuracy and number of degrees of freedom. The methodology is validated on a test-device using the software FLUX3D Index Terms--Equivalent source, finite-element method, human exposure, inverse problem, low-frequency magnetic stray fields.

Abstract

A three-dimensional finite-element formulation to compute induced currents into the human body due to relative low-frequency magnetic field is described. Magnetic source field and induced currents are computed separately, allowing to handle sources due to realistic devices. This method is validated using analytical solutions over a sphere. The limit of validity of the formulation is established. Computations using an accurate model of the human body are presented. National audience; Pour protéger les travailleurs contre les risques dus aux champs électromagnétiques, la directive européenne 2013/35/UE a défini des valeurs limites d’exposition et des valeurs déclenchant l’action pour les différentes bandes de fréquences.Dans le cas des machines industrielles utilisant généralement des radiofréquences, il est parfois délicat de calculer les valeurs d’exposition des travailleurs dans l’environnement de travail.Le projet de recherche EXTI vise à étudier l’exposition des travailleurs aux champs électromagnétiques RF en milieu industriel et à mettre en place une nouvelle méthode de caractérisation de l’exposition par dosimétrie numérique.

Abstract: Some soft magnetic materials are strongly dependent of the temperature, because of their low Curie temperature. To be able to predict their behaviour in electrical devices, hysteresis models able to take into account the temperature are needed. The vector play static hysteresis model is an interesting hysteresis model that can be modified to be able to take into account the thermal behaviour. In this paper, the temperature is taken into account in this last model through its parameters. The variations of some parameters with temperature are mainly issued from numerical interpolation and specific assumptions. Simulation results are compared to measurements and discussed. Abstract

International audience; The finite element method can be used to compute the electromagnetic fields induced in the human body by environmental extremely low frequency (ELF) fields. However, the electric properties of tissues are not precisely known and may vary depending on the individual, his/her age and other physiological parameters. In this paper, we account for the uncertainties on the conductivities of the brain tissues and spread them out to the induced fields by means of a non-intrusive approach based on the chaos Hermite polynomial with the finite element method as a black box [1], [2]. After showing the convergence of the method, we compute the probability to be over the thresholds define by the norms.
