Highly r-process-enhanced stars are rare and usually metal-poor ([Fe/H] < - 1.0), and mainly populate the Milky Way halo and dwarf galaxies. This study presents the discovery of a relatively bright (V = 12.72), highly r-process-enhanced (r-II) star ([Eu/Fe] = +1.32, [Ba/Eu] = - 0.95), LAMOST J020623.21 + 494127.9. This star was selected from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) medium-resolution (R ~ 7500) spectroscopic survey; follow-up high-resolution (R ~ 25,000) observations were conducted with the High Optical Resolution Spectrograph (HORuS) installed on the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). The stellar parameters (${T_{\rm eff}}$ = 4130 K, $\rm log\,g $ = 1.52, $ \rm[Fe/H] $ = $ - $0.54, $\xi$ = 1.80 $ \rm{km\,{s^{-1}}} $) have been inferred taking into account non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) effects. The abundances of [Ce/Fe], [Pr/Fe], and [Nd/Fe] are +0.19, +0.65 and +0.64, respectively, relatively low compared to the Solar r-process pattern normalized to Eu. This star has a high metallicity ([Fe/H] = - 0.54) compared to most other highly r-process-enhanced stars, and has the highest measured abundance ratio of Eu to H ([Eu/H] = +0.78). Based on a sample of K giant from Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Data Release 8 and a sample of RR Lyrae (RRL) from \textit{Gaia} Data Release 3, we investigate the compositions of the Hercules-Aquila Cloud (HAC) and Virgo Over-density (VOD) and their collective contribution to the tilt and triaxiality of the stellar halo ($r\,\textless\,40\,{\rm kpc}$) as well as two breaks at $\approx15\,{\rm kpc}$ and 30\,kpc. We apply the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) to divide the stellar halo into the isotropic component and the radially biased anisotropic component, namely Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE), and find that both HAC and VOD are dominated by the GSE debris stars with weights of $0.67^{+0.09}_{-0.07}$ and $0.57^{+0.07}_{-0.06}$, respectively. In addition, using the K giants with orbital parameters, we identify the member stars of known substructures, including GSE, Sagittarius (Sgr), Helmi Streams, Sequoia, Thamnos, Pontus, Wukong, and Metal-weak Thick Disk (MWTD), to probe the compositions of low-eccentricity stars in the HAC and VOD regions. In density fittings of the RRL sample, we note that the absence of HAC and VOD has a weak effect on the shape of halo. Finally, we find that the radially biased anisotropic halo contributes majorly to the stellar halo that can be modelled with a tilted triaxial ellipsoid and a doubly broken power law with breaking radii at $18.08^{+2.04}_{-3.22}\,{\rm kpc}$ and $33.03^{+1.30}_{-1.21}\,{\rm kpc}$. Very metal-poor (VMP) stars record the signatures of early accreted galaxies, making them essential tools for unraveling the early stages of Galaxy formation. Understanding the origin of VMP stars requires comprehensive studies of their chemical compositions and kinematics, which are currently lacking. Hence, we conduct a chemodynamical analysis of 352 VMP stars selected from one of the largest uniform high-resolution VMP star samples, jointly obtained from LAMOST and Subaru. We apply a friends-of-friends clustering algorithm to the master catalog of this high-resolution sample, which consists of 5778 VMP stars. It results in 131 dynamically tagged groups with 89 associated with known substructures in the Milky Way, including Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE), Thamnos, Helmi streams, Sequoia, Wukong, Pontus, and the very metal-poor disk (VMPD). Our findings are: (i) the VMPD shows lower Zn abundances than the rest, which indicates that it could be a relic of small stellar systems; (ii) Sequoia shows moderately high r-process abundances; (iii) Helmi streams show deficiencies in carbon and light neutron-capture elements; (iv) the fraction of carbon-enhanced metal-poor stars with no enhancement in heavy elements (CEMP-no stars) seems low in the VMPD and the Helmi streams; and (v) a subgroup in GSE exhibits a very high fraction of r-process enhanced stars, with four out of five showing [Eu/Fe]> +1.0. The abundance patterns of other elements in VMP substructures largely match the whole VMP sample. Accurate determination of the stellar atmospheric parameters of RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) requires short individual exposures of the spectra to mitigate pulsation effects. We present improved template matching methods to determine the stellar atmospheric parameters of RRLs from single-epoch spectra of LAMOST (Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope, also known as the Guoshoujing telescope). We determine the radial velocities and stellar atmospheric parameters (effective temperature: $T_\mathrm{eff}$, surface gravity: $\log{g}$, and metallicity: [M/H]) of 10,486 and 1,027 RRLs from 42,729 low-resolution spectra (LRS) and 7,064 medium-resolution spectra (MRS) of LAMOST, respectively. Our results are in good agreement with the parameters of other databases, where the external uncertainties of $T_\mathrm{eff}$, $\log{g}$, and [M/H] for LRS/MRS are estimated to be 314/274 K, 0.42/0.29 dex, and 0.39/0.31 dex, respectively. We conclude with the variation characteristics of the radial velocities ($RV$) and stellar atmospheric parameters for RRLs during the pulsation phase. There is a significant difference of $28\pm21$ km/s between the peak-to-peak amplitude ($A_\mathrm{ptp}$) of $RV$ from H$\alpha$ line ($RV_\mathrm{H\alpha}$) and from metal lines ($RV_\mathrm{metal}$) for RRab, whereas it is only $4\pm17$ km/s for RRc. The $A_\mathrm{ptp}$ of $T_\mathrm{eff}$ is $930\pm456$ and $409\pm375$ K for RRab and RRc, respectively. The $\log{g}$ of RRab show mild variation of approximately $0.23\pm0.42$ dex near the phase of $\varphi = 0.9$, while that of RRc almost remains constant. IW And-type dwarf novae are anomalous Z Cam stars featured with outbursts happening during standstill states, which are not expected in the standard disk instability model. The physical mechanisms for these variations remain unclear. In this study, we report the discovery of a new candidate IW And-type dwarf nova J0652+2436, identified with its frequent outbursts from the slowly rising standstill states. Luckily, the TESS observations during a long standstill state and the earlier K2 observations give a chance to find the orbital and negative superhump period in the light curve of J0652+2436, allowing the measurement of its mass ratio of 0.366. This mass ratio is marginally possible for the tidal instability to set in according to previous SPH simulations. Thus, we propose that the outbursts in J0652+2436 are likely to be caused by the growing accretion disk during standstills, in favor of the previous hypothesis of the mechanisms lying in all IW And stars. We conclude that J0652+2436 might be the first IW And star with both a precessing tilted disk and tidal instability, which will be an important laboratory for studying the accretion disk dynamics and help understand IW And phenomenon., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, accepted to MNRAS

The study of Li phenomena in red clump (RC) stars can give us a deeper understanding of the structure and evolution of stars. \citet{2022ApJ...933...58C} explained the RC Li abundance distributions naturally using only standard post main sequence (MS) Li evolution models when the distribution of progenitor masses and the depletion of Li during the MS observed in MS stars were considered, thus neither extra Li depletion nor Li creation mechanism is required. Nevertheless, it is interesting to consider the effects of mixing caused by some extra mechanisms. By constructing different models, we find that the mixing caused by internal gravity waves can explain the observed Li abundances of RC stars with low mass progenitors. To explain that, we rely on the extra mixing induced by internal gravity waves that are excited at the bottom of the convective envelope at the red giant branch (RGB) stage. During the RGB stage, introducing the internal gravity waves can improve the diffusion coefficient and strengthen the mixing effect. The effective enrichment of Li occurs at the late RGB stage and requires the diffusion coefficient of H-burning shell to reach $\rm \sim 10^{8}\,cm^{2}\,s^{-1}$. Our models predict that the Li abundance decreases from $\rm \sim 1.5\,dex$ to $\rm \sim 0.0\,dex$ at the end of core He-burning stage, thereby revealing the $\sim 99\%$ of the observed Li abundance distribution. The thermohaline mixing regulates the Li abundance of RGB stars, which combines with the internal gravity waves can explain the Li abundances of most giants.

Increasing observed data indicate that part of giants has abnormally high lithium (Li) inside their surface, and their proportion is around 1%. Instead of pursuing the feasible mechanisms for extra Li enrichment, we focus on how to inhibit Li depletion from the main sequence (MS) phase of giants. With this in mind, we find that convective mixing is capable of achieving this goal and forming Li-rich giants, which is mainly attributed to the convection model with the convective boundary defined by the Ledoux criterion. Another factor in the formation of Li-rich giants in our convection models is related to the Li abundances of their progenitors. If the Li abundances of the progenitors exceed the meteoritic value (3.3 dex), then the majority of giants will be rich in Li. This is the general pattern of stellar Li abundance evolution without factoring in extra Li depletion. The Tsinghua University-Ma Huateng Telescope for Survey (TMTS) has been constantly monitoring the northern sky since 2020 in search of rapidly variable stars. To find variable white dwarfs (WDs), the TMTS catalog is cross-matched with the WD catalog of Gaia EDR3, resulting in over 3000 light curves of WD candidates. The WD TMTS J17184064+2524314 (hereafter J1718) is the second ZZ~Ceti star discovered among these common sources. Based on the light curves from TMTS, follow-up photometric observations, and TESS, 10 periods and 3 combination periods are detected. A rotation period of $25.12\pm0.18$ hr is derived, according to the identified rotational splitting. Our spectroscopic observation indicates that this WD belongs to DA type with $T_{\rm eff}=11,670\pm604$ K, log $g=8.16\pm0.36$, $M = 0.70\pm0.23$ M$_{\odot}$, and age=$0.51\pm0.34$ Gyr. Based on core-parameterized asteroseismological model grids ($\geqslant$ 14 million), we derive a best-fit solution of $T_{\rm eff}=11,640\pm20$ K, log $g=8.267\pm0.008$, and $M = 0.750\pm0.005$ M$_{\odot}$ for J1718, consistent with the spectral fitting results. For this WD, the corresponding carbon and oxygen abundances in the core are 0.43 and 0.57, respectively. Utilizing astrometric parameters sourced from \textit{Gaia} Data Release 3 and radial velocities obtained from various spectroscopic surveys, we identify 519 high-velocity stars (HiVels) with a total velocity in the Galactocentric restframe greater than 70\% of their local escape velocity under the {\tt\string Gala} {\tt\string MilkyWayPotential}. Our analysis reveals that the majority of these HiVels are metal-poor late-type giants, and we show 9 HiVels that are unbound candidates to the Galaxy with escape probabilities of 50\%. To investigate the origins of these HiVels, we classify them into four categories and consider the impact of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) potential on their backward-integration trajectories. Specifically, we find that one of the HiVels can track back to the Galactic Center, and three HiVels may originate from the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy (Sgr dSph). Furthermore, some HiVels appear to be ejected from the Galactic disk, while others formed within the Milky Way or have an extragalactic origin. Given that the LMC has a significant impact on the orbits of Sgr dSph, we examine the reported HiVels that originate from the Sgr dSph, with a few of them passing within the half-light radius of the Sgr dSph., Comment: 17 pages, 5figures, accepted for publication in AJ

Based on 4,\,098 very metal-poor (VMP) stars with 6D phase-space and chemical information from \textit{Gaia} DR3 and LAMOST DR9 as tracers, we apply an unsupervised machine learning algorithm, Shared Nearest Neighbor (SNN), to identify stellar groups in the action-energy (\textbf{\textit{J}}-$E$) space. We detect seven previously known mergers in local samples, including Helmi Stream, Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE), Metal-weak Thick Disk (MWTD), Pontus, Wukong, Thamnos, and I'itoi+Sequoia+Arjuna. According to energy, we further divide GSE and Wukong into smaller parts to explore the orbital characteristics of individual fragments. Similarly, the division of Thamnos is based on action. It can be found that the apocentric distances of GSE parts of high and medium energy levels are located at $29.5\pm3.6\,{\rm kpc}$ and $13.0\pm2.7\,{\rm kpc}$, respectively, which suggests that GSE could account for breaks in the density profile of the Galactic halo at both $\approx30$\,kpc and $15\text{-}18$\,kpc. The VMP stars of MWTD move along prograde orbits with larger eccentricities than those of its more metal-rich stars, which indicates that the VMP part of MWTD may be formed by accreting with dwarf galaxies. Finally, we summarize all substructures discovered in our local VMP samples. Carbon stars are excellent kinematic tracers of galaxies and play important roles in understanding the evolution of the Galaxy. Therefore, it is worthwhile to search for them in a large amount of spectra. In this work, we build a new carbon star catalog based on the LAMOST DR7 spectra. The catalog contains 4542 spectra of 3546 carbon stars, identified through line index and near-infrared color-color diagrams. Through visual inspection of the spectra, we further subclassify them into 925 C--H, 384 C--R, 608 C--N, and 1292 Ba stars. However, 437 stars could not be sub-classified due to their low signal-to-noise. Moreover, by comparing with LAMOST DR7 pipeline we find 567 more carbon stars and visually sub-classify them. We find that on the $J-H$ vs. $H-K_{\rm s}$ two-color diagram, C--N stars can be reliably distinguished from the other three sub-types. Additionally, by utilizing the Gaia distance, we study the distribution of carbon stars in the H-R diagram and identify 258 dwarf carbon stars by the criterion $M_{\rm G}>$5.0\,mag. Finally, we present the spatial distribution in Galactic coordinates of the 3546 carbon stars. The majority of C-N, C-R, and Ba stars are distributed at low Galactic latitudes, while most C--H and dC stars distribute at high Galactic latitudes.

The non-local thermodynamical equilibrium (NLTE) line formation of Y I and Y II is considered in 1D LTE model atmospheres of F-G-K-type stars. The model atom was constructed with the most up-to-date atomic data, including quantum cross sections and rate coefficients for transitions in inelastic collisions of Y I and Y II with hydrogen atoms. For seven reference stars, we obtained an agreement between NLTE abundances inferred from the two ionization stages, while the difference in LTE abundance (Y I - Y II) can reach up to -0.31 dex. In the atmospheres of F-G-K-type stars, for both Y I and Y II lines, the NLTE abundance corrections are positive. In solar metallicity stars, the NLTE abundance corrections for Y II lines do not exceed 0.12 dex, while in atmospheres of metal-poor stars they do not exceed 0.21 dex. For Y I lines, the NLTE abundance corrections can reach up to 0.5 dex. We determined the yttrium NLTE abundances for a sample of 65 F and G dwarfs and subgiants in the -2.62~$\leq$~[Fe/H]~$\leq$~+0.24 metallicity range, using high-resolution spectra. For stars with [Fe/H]~$\leq$~-1.5, [Y/Fe] versus [Fe/H] diagram reveals positive trend with an average value of [Y/Fe]~$\simeq$~0. For metal-poor stars, among Sr, Y, and Zr, the arrangement [Sr/Fe] < [Y/Fe] < [Zr/Fe] remains consistent. The current study is useful for the Galactic chemical evolution research. Based on the \textit{Gaia} DR3 RR Lyrae catalog, we use two methods to fit the density profiles with an improved broken power law, and find that there are two break radii coinciding with the two apocenter pile-ups of high-eccentricity Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE) merger. Also, there is a break caused by the Sagittarius (Sgr) stream. Combining the positions of all breaks, we briefly analyze the metallicity and its dispersion as a function of $r$ as well as its distribution in cylindrical coordinates. For the clean sample, the $z\text{-to-}x$ ellipsoid axial ratio $q$ in $36\,{\rm kpc}\,\textless\,r\,\textless\,96\,{\rm kpc}$ becomes much smaller than that of the inner halo $(r\,\textless\,36\,{\rm kpc})$, while the major axis has a large uncertainty in the region of $36-66\,{\rm kpc}$ and the one in the region of $66-96\,{\rm kpc}$ is obviously different from that dominated by the Hercules-Aquila Cloud (HAC) and the Virgo Overdensity (VOD) in the inner halo, which indicates that there is an over-density structure distributed at low zenithal angles. Finally, we found that the over-density structure in the outer halo ($r\,\textgreater\,50\,{\rm kpc}$) is shell-shaped and relatively metal-rich compared to the outer background halo. Tsinghua university-Ma Huateng Telescope for Survey (TMTS) aims to discover rapidly evolving transients by monitoring the northern sky. The TMTS catalog is cross-matched with the white dwarf (WD) catalog of Gaia EDR3, and light curves of more than a thousand WD candidates are obtained so far. Among them, the WD TMTS J23450729+5813146 (hereafter J2345) is one interesting common source. Based on the light curves from the TMTS and follow-up photometric observations, periods of 967.113 s, 973.734 s, 881.525 s, 843.458 s, 806.916 s and 678.273 s are identified. In addition, the TESS observations suggest a 3.39 h period but this can be attributed to the rotation of a comoving M dwarf located within 3". The spectroscopic observation indicates that this WD is DA type with Teff = 11778+/-617K,log g = 8.38+/-0.31,mass=0.84+/-0.20Msun and age=0.704+/-0.377 Gyrs. Asteroseismological analysis reveals a global best-fit solution of Teff =12110+/-10K and mass=0.760+/-0.005Msun,consistent with the spectral fitting results, and Oxygen and Carbon abundances in the core center are 0.73 and 0.27, respectively. The distance derived from the intrinsic luminosity given by asteroseismology is 93 parsec, which is in agreement with the distance of 98 parsec from Gaia DR3. Additionally, kinematic study shows that this WD is likely a thick disk star. The mass of its zero-age main-sequence mass is estimated to be 3.08 Msun and has a main-sequence plus cooling age of roughly 900 Myrs., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

In this work, we update the catalog of M-giant stars from the low-resolution spectra of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Data Release 9. There are 58,076 M giants identified from the classification pipeline with seven temperature subtypes from M0 to M6. The 2471 misclassified non-M-giant stars are white dwarf binaries, early types, and M dwarfs. And the contamination rate is 4.2$\%$ in the M-giants sample. A total of 372 carbon stars were identified by CaH spectral indices, and were further confirmed by the LAMOST spectra. We update the correlation between the $(W1-W2)_0$ color and [M/H] from APOGEE DR17. We calculate the radial velocities of all M giants by applying cross-correlation to the spectra between 8000 and 8950 \AA with synthetic spectra from ATLAS9. Taking star distances less than 4 kpc from Gaia EDR3 as the standard, we refitted the photometric distance relation of M giants. And based on our M-giant stars, we select a group of Sagittarius stream members, whose sky and 3D velocity distributions are well consistent with K-giant Saggitarius stream members found in Yang et al. Tsinghua University-Ma Huateng Telescopes for Survey (TMTS) aims to detect fast-evolving transients in the Universe, which has led to the discovery of thousands of short-period variables and eclipsing binaries since 2020. In this paper, we present the observed properties of 125 flare stars identified by the TMTS within the first two years, with an attempt to constrain their eruption physics. As expected, most of these flares were recorded in late-type red stars with $G_{\rm BP}-G_{\rm RP}$ > 2.0 mag, however, the flares associated with bluer stars tend to be on average more energetic and have broader profiles. The peak flux (F_peak) of the flare is found to depend strongly on the equivalent duration (ED) of the energy release, i.e., $F_{{\rm peak}} \propto {\rm ED}^{0.72\pm0.04}$, which is consistent with results derived from the Kepler and Evryscope samples. This relation is likely related to the magnetic loop emission, while -- for the more popular non-thermal electron heating model -- a specific time evolution may be required to generate this relation. We notice that flares produced by hotter stars have a flatter $F_{{\rm peak}} \propto {\rm ED}$ relation compared to that from cooler stars. This is related to the statistical discrepancy in light-curve shape of flare events with different colors. In spectra from LAMOST, we find that flare stars have apparently stronger H alpha emission than inactive stars, especially at the low temperature end, suggesting that chromospheric activity plays an important role in producing flares. On the other hand, the subclass having frequent flares are found to show H alpha emission of similar strength in their spectra to that recorded with only a single flare but similar effective temperature, implying that the chromospheric activity may not be the only trigger for eruptions., Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables, refereed version. A small fraction of giants possess photospheric lithium(Li) abundance higher than the value predicted by the standard stellar evolution models, and the detailed mechanisms of Li enhancement are complicated and lack a definite conclusion. In order to better understand the Li enhancement behaviors, a large and homogeneous Li-rich giants sample is needed. In this study, we designed a modified convolutional neural network model called Coord-DenseNet to determine the A(Li) of Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) low-resolution survey (LRS) giant spectra. The precision is good on the test set: MAE=0.15 dex, and {\sigma}=0.21 dex. We used this model to predict the Li abundance of more than 900,000 LAMOST DR8 LRS giant spectra and identified 7,768 Li-rich giants with Li abundances ranging from 2.0 to 5.4 dex, accounting for about 1.02% of all giants. We compared the Li abundance estimated by our work with those derived from high-resolution spectra. We found that the consistency was good if the overall deviation of 0.27 dex between them was not considered. The analysis shows that the difference is mainly due to the high A(Li) from the medium-resolution spectra in the training set. This sample of Li-rich giants dramatically expands the existing sample size of Li-rich giants and provides us with more samples to further study the formation and evolution of Li-rich giants., Comment: 14 pages,13 figures

Context. About 0.2-2% of giant stars are Li-rich, whose lithium abundance (A(Li)) is higher than 1.5 dex. Among them, near 6% are super Li-rich with A(Li) exceeding 3.2 dex. Meanwhile, the formation mechanism of these Li-rich and super Li-rich giants is still under debate. Aims. Considering the compact He core of red giants, attention is paid to the effect of element diffusion on A(Li). In particular, when the He core flash occurs, the element diffusion makes the thermohaline mixing zone extend inward and connect to the inner convection region of stars. Then, a large amount of 7Be produced by the He flash can be transferred to stellar surface, finally turning into 7Li. Thus, the goal of this work is to propose the mechanism of A(Li) enrichment and achieve the consistency between the theoretical and observation data. Methods. Using the Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA), we simulate the evolution of low-mass stars, with considering the effects of element diffusion on the Li abundances. The timescale ratio of Li-rich giants to normal giants is estimated by population synthesis method. Then we get the theoretical value of A(Li) and make a comparison with observations. Results. Considering the influence of element diffusion in the model results in the increase of lithium abundance up to about 1.8dex, which can reveal Li-rich giants. Simultaneously, introducing high constant diffusive mixing coefficients (Dmix) with the values from 10e11 to 10e15in the model allows A(Li) to increase from 2.4 to 4.5dex, which can explain the most of Li-rich and super Li-rich giant stars. The population synthesis method reveals that the amount of Li-rich giants among giants is about 0.2-2%, which is consistent with observation estimated levels.

We report the discovery of a dark companion to 2MASS J15274848+3536572 with an orbital period of 6.14 hr. Combining the radial velocity from LAMOST observations and modelling of the multiband light curve, one obtains a mass function of $\simeq 0.131~\rm M_{\odot}$, an inclination of $45.20^\circ{}^{+0.13^{\circ}}_{-0.20^{\circ}}$, and a mass ratio of $0.631^{+0.014}_{-0.003}$, which demonstrate the binary nature of the dark companion with mass of $0.98 \pm 0.03\rm M_{\odot}$ and a main-sequence K9-M0 star of $0.62 \pm 0.01~\rm M_{\odot}$. LAMOST optical spectra at a range of orbital phases reveal extra-peaked Halpha emission that suggests the presence of an accretion disk. The dark companion does not seem to be a white dwarf because of the lack of any observed dwarf nova outbursts in the long-term data archive, although a magnetic white dwarf cannot be excluded. Alternatively, we propose a scenario wherein the dark companion is a neutron star, but we have not detected radio pulsations or a single pulse from the system with the FAST (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope), which hints at a radio-quiet compact object. If the dark companion is identified as a neutron star, it will be the nearest ( ~ 118 pc) and lightest neutron star. Furthermore, a kinematic analysis of the system's orbit in the galaxy may suggest its supernova event is associated with the radionuclide $^{60} \rm Fe$ signal observed from the deep-sea crusts. We investigate the non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) analysis for \ion{Cu}{1} lines with the updated model atom that includes quantum-mechanical rate coefficients of Cu\,$+$\,H and Cu$^+$\,$+$\,H$^-$ inelastic collisions from the recent study of Belyaev et al. (2021). The influence of these data on NLTE abundance determinations has been performed for six metal-poor stars in a metallicity range of $-$2.59\,dex$\,\le$\,[Fe/H]\,$\le$\,$-$0.95\,dex. For \ion{Cu}{1} lines, the application of accurate atomic data leads to a decrease in the departure from LTE and lower copper abundances compared to that obtained with the Drawin's theoretical approximation. To verify our adopted copper atomic model, we also derived the LTE copper abundances of \ion{Cu}{2} lines for the sample stars. A consistent copper abundance from the \ion{Cu}{1} (NLTE) and \ion{Cu}{2} (LTE) lines has been obtained, which indicates the reliability of our copper atomic model. It is noted that the [Cu/Fe] ratios increase with increasing metallicity when $\sim$\,$-$2.0\,dex\,$<$\,[Fe/H]\,$<$\,$\sim$\,$-$1.0\,dex, favoring a secondary (metallicity-dependent) copper production.

Using proper motions from Gaia Early Data Release 3 (Gaia EDR 3) and radial velocities from several surveys, we identify 60 candidate high-velocity stars with total velocity greater than 75\% escape velocity that probably origin from Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy (Sgr) by orbital analysis. Sgr's gravity has little effect on the results and the Large Magellanic Cloud's gravity has non-negligible effect on only a few stars. The closest approach of these stars to the Sgr occurs when the Sgr passed its pericenter ($\sim$ 38.2 Myr ago), which suggest they were tidally stripped from the Sgr. The positions of these stars in the HR diagram and the chemical properties of 19 of them with available [Fe/H] are similar with the Sgr stream member stars. This is consistent with the assumption of their accretion origin. We propose to develop a wide-field and ultra-high-precision photometric survey mission, temporarily named "Earth 2.0 (ET)". This mission is designed to measure, for the first time, the occurrence rate and the orbital distributions of Earth-sized planets. ET consists of seven 30cm telescopes, to be launched to the Earth-Sun's L2 point. Six of these are transit telescopes with a field of view of 500 square degrees. Staring in the direction that encompasses the original Kepler field for four continuous years, this monitoring will return tens of thousands of transiting planets, including the elusive Earth twins orbiting solar-type stars. The seventh telescope is a 30cm microlensing telescope that will monitor an area of 4 square degrees toward the galactic bulge. This, combined with simultaneous ground-based KMTNet observations, will measure masses for hundreds of long-period and free-floating planets. Together, the transit and the microlensing telescopes will revolutionize our understandings of terrestrial planets across a large swath of orbital distances and free space. The puzzle of Li-rich giant is still unsolved, contradicting the prediction of the standard stellar models. Although the exact evolutionary stages play a key role in the knowledge of Li-rich giants, a limited number of Li-rich giants have been taken with high-quality asteroseismic parameters to clearly distinguish the stellar evolutionary stages. Based on the LAMOST Data Release 7 (DR7), we applied a data-driven neural network method to derive the parameters for giant stars, which contain the largest number of Li-rich giants. The red giant stars are classified into three stages of Red Giant Branch (RGB), Primary Red Clump (PRC), and Secondary Red Clump (SRC) relying on the estimated asteroseismic parameters. In the statistical analysis of the properties (i.e. stellar mass, carbon, nitrogen, Li-rich distribution, and frequency) of Li-rich giants, we found that: (1) Most of the Li-rich RGB stars are suggested to be the descendants of Li-rich pre-RGB stars and/or the result of engulfment of planet or substellar companions; (2) The massive Li-rich SRC stars could be the natural consequence of Li depletion from the high-mass Li-rich RGB stars. (3) Internal mixing processes near the helium flash can account for the phenomenon of Li-rich on PRC that dominated the Li-rich giants. The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), also known as the Guoshoujing Telescope, is a major national scientific facility for astronomical research located in Xinglong, China. Beginning with a pilot survey in 2011, LAMOST has been surveying the night sky for more than 10 years. The LAMOST survey covers various objects in the Universe, from normal stars to peculiar ones, from the Milky Way to other galaxies, and from stellar black holes and their companions to quasars that ignite ancient galaxies. Until the latest data release 8, the LAMOST survey has released spectra for more than 10 million stars, ~220,000 galaxies, and ~71,000 quasars. With this largest celestial spectra database ever constructed, LAMOST has helped astronomers to deepen their understanding of the Universe, especially for our Milky Way galaxy and the millions of stars within it. In this article, we briefly review the characteristics, observations, and scientific achievements of LAMOST. We present homogeneous abundance analysis of over 20 elements for 385 very metal-poor (VMP) stars based on the LAMOST survey and follow-up observations with the Subaru Telescope. It is the largest high-resolution VMP sample (including 363 new objects) studied by a single program, and the first attempt to accurately determine evolutionary stages for such a large sample based on Gaia parallaxes. The sample covers a wide metallicity range from [Fe/H]=-1.7 down to [Fe/H]=-4.3, including over 110 objects with [Fe/H]<-3.0. The expanded coverage in evolutionary status makes it possible to define abundance trends respectively for giants and turn-off stars. The newly obtained abundance data confirm most abundance trends found by previous studies, but also provide useful update and new sample of outliers. The Li plateau is seen in -2.5 < [Fe/H] <-1.7 in our sample, whereas the average Li abundance is clearly lower at lower metallicity. Mg, Si, and Ca are overabundant with respect to Fe, showing decreasing trend with increasing metallicity. Comparisons with chemical evolution models indicate that the over-abundance of Ti, Sc, and Co are not well reproduced by current theoretical predictions. Correlations are seen between Sc and alpha-elements, while Zn shows a detectable correlation only with Ti but not with other alpha-elements. The fraction of carbon-enhanced stars ([C/Fe]> 0.7) is in the range of 20-30% for turn-off stars depending on the treatment of objects for which C abundance is not determined, which is much higher than that in giants (~8%). Twelve Mg-poor stars ([Mg/Fe] < 0.0) have been identified in a wide metallicity range from [Fe/H] =-3.8 through -1.7. Twelve Eu-rich stars ([Eu/Fe]> 1.0) have been discovered in -3.4 <[Fe/H]< -2.0, enlarging the sample of r-process-enhanced stars with relatively high metallicity., Comment: 66 pages, 28 figure, 8 tables, to appear in ApJ

The chemical abundances of very metal-poor stars provide important constraints on the nucleosynthesis of the first generation of stars and early chemical evolution of the Galaxy. We have obtained high-resolution spectra with the Subaru Telescope for candidates of very metal-poor stars selected with a large survey of Galactic stars carried out with LAMOST. In this series of papers, we report on the elemental abundances of about 400 very metal-poor stars and discuss the kinematics of the sample obtained by combining the radial velocities measured in this study and recent astrometry obtained with Gaia. This paper provides an overview of our survey and follow-up program, and reports radial velocities for the whole sample. We identify seven double-lined spectroscopic binaries from our high-resolution spectra, for which radial velocities of the components are reported. Stellar flares are characterized by sudden enhancement of electromagnetic radiation in stellar atmospheres. So far much of our understanding of stellar flares comes from photometric observations, from which plasma motions in flare regions could not be detected. From the spectroscopic data of LAMOST DR7, we have found one stellar flare that is characterized by an impulsive increase followed by a gradual decrease in the H$\alpha$ line intensity on an M4-type star, and the total energy radiated through H${\alpha}$ is estimated to be on the order of $10^{33}$ erg. The H$\alpha$ line appears to have a Voigt profile during the flare, which is likely caused by Stark pressure broadening due to the dramatic increase of electron density and/or opacity broadening due to the occurrence of strong non-thermal heating. Obvious enhancement has been identified at the red wing of the H$\alpha$ line profile after the impulsive increase of the H$\alpha$ line intensity. The red wing enhancement corresponds to plasma moving away from the Earth at a velocity of 100$-$200 km s$^{-1}$. According to the current knowledge of solar flares, this red wing enhancement may originate from: (1) flare-driven coronal rain, (2) chromospheric condensation, or (3) a filament/prominence eruption that either with a non-radial backward propagation or with strong magnetic suppression. The total mass of the moving plasma is estimated to be on the order of $10^{15}$ kg.

In this work, we present a catalog of cataclysmic variables (CVs) identified from the Sixth Data Release (DR6) of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). To single out the CV spectra, we introduce a novel machine-learning algorithm called UMAP to screen out a total of 169,509 H$\alpha$-emission spectra, and obtain a classification accuracy of the algorithm of over 99.6$\%$ from the cross-validation set. We then apply the template matching program PyHammer v2.0 to the LAMOST spectra to obtain the optimal spectral type with metallicity, which helps us identify the chromospherically active stars and potential binary stars from the 169,509 spectra. After visually inspecting all the spectra, we identify 323 CV candidates from the LAMOST database, among them 52 objects are new. We further discuss the new CV candidates in subtypes based on their spectral features, including five DN subtype during outbursts, five NL subtype and four magnetic CVs (three AM Her type and one IP type). We also find two CVs that have been previously identified by photometry, and confirm their previous classification by the LAMOST spectra.

Tsinghua University-Ma Huateng Telescopes for Survey (TMTS), located at Xinglong Station of NAOC, has a field of view upto 18 deg^2. The TMTS has started to monitor the LAMOST sky areas since 2020, with the uninterrupted observations lasting for about 6 hours on average for each sky area and a cadence of about 1 minute. Here we introduce the data analysis and preliminary scientific results for the first-year observations, which covered 188 LAMOST plates ( about 1970 deg^2). These observations have generated over 4.9 million uninterrupted light curves, with at least 100 epochs for each of them. These light curves correspond to 4.26 million Gaia-DR2 sources, among which 285 thousand sources are found to have multi-epoch spectra from the LAMOST. By analysing these light curves with the Lomb-Scargle periodograms, we identify more than 3700 periodic variable star candidates with periods below 7.5 hours, primarily consisting of eclipsing binaries and Delta Scuti stars. Those short-period binaries will provide important constraints on theories of binary evolution and possible sources for space gravitational wave experiments in the future. Moreover, we also identified 42 flare stars by searching rapidly-evolving signals in the light curves. From Oct. 2019 to Apr. 2020, LAMOST performs a time-domain spectroscopic survey of four $K$2 plates with both low- and med-resolution observations. The low-resolution spectroscopic survey gains 282 exposures ($\approx$46.6 hours) over 25 nights, yielding a total of about 767,000 spectra, and the med-resolution survey takes 177 exposures ($\approx$49.1 hours) over 27 nights, collecting about 478,000 spectra. More than 70%/50% of low-resolution/med-resolution spectra have signal-to-noise ratio higher than 10. We determine stellar parameters (e.g., $T_{\rm eff}$, log$g$, [Fe/H]) and radial velocity (RV) with different methods, including LASP, DD-Payne, and SLAM. In general, these parameter estimations from different methods show good agreement, and the stellar parameter values are consistent with those of APOGEE. We use the $Gaia$ DR2 RV data to calculate a median RV zero point (RVZP) for each spectrograph exposure by exposure, and the RVZP-corrected RVs agree well with the APOGEE data. The stellar evolutionary and spectroscopic masses are estimated based on the stellar parameters, multi-band magnitudes, distances and extinction values. Finally, we construct a binary catalog including about 2700 candidates by analyzing their light curves, fitting the RV data, calculating the binarity parameters from med-resolution spectra, and cross-matching the spatially resolved binary catalog from $Gaia$ EDR3. We introduce a method of subtracting geocoronal Halpha emissions from the spectra of LAMOST medium-resolution spectral survey of Galactic nebulae (LAMOST-MRS-N). The flux ratios of the Halpha sky line to the adjacent OH lambda6554 single line do not show a pattern or gradient distribution in a plate. More interestingly, the ratio is well correlated to solar altitude, which is the angle of the sun relative to the Earth's horizon. It is found that the ratio decreases from 0.8 to 0.2 with the decreasing solar altitude from -17 to -73 degree. Based on this relation, which is described by a linear function, we can construct the Halpha sky component and subtract it from the science spectrum. This method has been applied to the LAMOST-MRS-N data, and the contamination level of the Halpha sky to nebula is reduced from 40% to less than 10%. Using a sample of 96,201 primary red clump (RC) stars selected from the LAMOST and Gaia surveys, we investigate the stellar structure of the Galactic disk. The sample stars show two separated sequences of high-[{\alpha}/Fe] and low-[{\alpha}/Fe] in the [{\alpha}/Fe]-[Fe/H] plane. We divide the sample stars into five mono-abundance populations (MAPs) with different ranges of [{\alpha}/Fe] and [Fe/H], named as the high-[{\alpha}/Fe], high-[{\alpha}/Fe] & high-[Fe/H], low-[Fe/H], solar, high-[Fe/H] MAPs respectively. We present the stellar number density distributions in the R R Z plane, and the scale heights and scale lengths of the individual MAPs by fitting their vertical and radial density profiles. The vertical profiles, the variation trend of scale height with the Galactocentric radius, indicate that there is a clear disk flare in the outer disk both for the low-[{\alpha}/Fe] and the high-[{\alpha}/Fe] MAPs. While the radial surface density profiles show a peak radius of 7 kpc and 8 kpc for the high-[{\alpha}/Fe] and low-[{\alpha}/Fe] MAPs, respectively. We also investigate the correlation between the mean rotation velocity and metallicity of the individual MAPs, and find that the mean rotation velocities are well separated and show different trends between the high-[{\alpha}/Fe] and the low-[{\alpha}/Fe] MAPs. At last, we discuss the character of the high-[{\alpha}/Fe] & high-[Fe/H] MAP and find that it is more similar to the high-[{\alpha}/Fe] MAP either in the radial and vertical density profiles or in the rotation velocity., Comment: 16 pages,12 figures

Based on the second Gaia data release (DR2) and APOGEE (DR16) spectroscopic surveys, wedefined two kinds of star sample: high-velocity thick disk (HVTD) with $v{\phi}>90km/s$ and metal-richstellar halo (MRSH) with $v{\phi}<90km/s$. Due to high resolution spectra data from APOGEE (DR16),we can analyze accurately the element abundance distribution of HVTD and MRSH. These elementsabundance constituted a multidimensional data space, and we introduced an algorithm method forprocessing multi-dimensional data to give the result of dimensionality reduction clustering. Accordingto chemical properties analysis, we derived that some HVTD stars could origin from the thin disk,and some MRSH stars from dwarf galaxies, but those stars which have similar chemical abundancecharacteristics in both sample may form in-situ., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Accurate determinations of stellar parameters and distances for large complete samples of stars are keys for conducting detailed studies of the formation and evolution of our Galaxy. Here we present stellar atmospheric parameters ($T_{\rm eff}$, luminosity classifications, and [Fe/H]) estimates for some 24 million stars determined from the stellar colors of SMSS DR2 and Gaia EDR3, based on training datasets with available spectroscopic measurements from previous high/medium/low-resolution spectroscopic surveys. The number of stars with photometric-metallicity estimates is 4-5 times larger than that collected by the current largest spectroscopic survey to date - LAMOST - over the course of the past decade. External checks indicate that the precision of the photometric-metallicity estimates are quite high, comparable to or slightly better than that derived from spectroscopy, with typical values around 0.05-0.15dex for both dwarf and giant stars with [Fe/H]>$-$1.0, 0.10-0.20dex for giant stars with $-$2.0<[Fe/H]<$-$1.0. and 0.20-0.25dex for giant stars with [Fe/H]<$-$2.0, and include estimates for stars as metal-poor as [Fe/H]~$-$3.5, substantially lower than previous photometric techniques. Photometric-metallicity estimates are obtained for an unprecedented number of metal-poor stars, including a total of over three million metal-poor (MP; [Fe/H] <$-$1.0) stars, over half a million very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H]<$-$2.0) stars, and over 25,000 extremely metal-poor (EMP; [Fe/H]<$-$3.0) stars. Moreover, distances are determined for over 20 million stars in our sample. For the over 18 million sample stars with accurate Gaia parallaxes, stellar ages are estimated by comparing with theoretical isochrones. We study the evolution of rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) isotopes in the Galaxy. We analyze relative contributions from core collapse supernovae (CCSNe), neutron star mergers (NSMs) and collapsars under a range of astrophysical conditions and nuclear input data. Although the r-process in each of these sites can lead to similar (or differing) isotopic abundances, our simulations reveal that the early contribution of r-process material to the Galaxy was dominated by CCSNe and collapsar r-process nucleosynthesis, while the NSM contribution is unavoidably delayed even under the assumption of the shortest possible minimum merger time.

Carbon stars, enhanced in carbon and neutron-capture elements, provide wealth of information about the nucleosynthesis history of the Galaxy. In this work, we present the first ever detailed abundance analysis of carbon star LAMOSTJ091608.81+230734.6 and a detailed abundance analysis of neutron-capture elements for the object LAMOSTJ151003.74+305407.3. Updates on the abundances of elements C, O, Mg, Ca, Cr, Mn and Ni for LAMOSTJ151003.74+305407.3 are also presented. Our analysis is based on high resolution spectra obtained using Hanle Echelle Spectrograph (HESP) attached to the Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT), IAO, Hanle. The stellar atmospheric parameters (T$_{eff}$, logg, micro-turbulance ${\zeta}$, metallicity [Fe/H]) are found to be (4820, 1.43, 1.62, $-$0.89) and (4500, 1.55, 1.24, $-$1.57) for these two objects respectively. The abundance estimates of several elements, C, N, O, Na, $\alpha$-elements, Fe-peak elements and neutron-capture elements Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and Eu are presented. Our analysis shows the star LAMOSTJ151003.74+305407.3 to be a CEMP-r/s star, and LAMOSTJ091608.81+230734.6 a CH giant. We have examined if the i-process model yields ([X/Fe]) of heavy elements could explain the observed abundances of the CEMP-r/s star based on a parametric model based analysis. The negative values obtained for the neutron density dependent [Rb/Zr] ratio confirm former low-mass AGB companions for both the stars. Kinematic analysis shows that LAMOSTJ151003.74+305407.3 belongs to the Galactic halo population and LAMOSTJ091608.81+230734.6 to the disc population.

Two Li-rich candidates, TYC 1338-1410-1 and TYC 2825-596-1, were observed with the new high-resolution echelle spectrograph, LAMOST/HRS. Based on the high-resolution and high-signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) spectra, we derived stellar parameters and abundances of 14 important elements for the two candidates. The stellar parameters and lithium abundances indicate that they are Li-rich K-type giants, and they have A(Li)$_\mathrm{NLTE}$ of 1.77 and 2.91 dex, respectively. Our analysis suggests that TYC 1338-1410-1 is likely a red giant branch (RGB) star at the bump stage, while TYC 2825-596-1 is most likely a core helium-burning red clump (RC) star. The line profiles of both spectra indicate that the two Li-rich giants are slow rotators and do not show infrared (IR) excess. We conclude that engulfment is not the lithium enrichment mechanism for either star. The enriched lithium of TYC 1338-1410-1 could be created via Cameron-Fowler mechanism, while the lithium excess in TYC 2825-596-1 could be associated with either non-canonical mixing processes or He-flash., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics

We use the second Gaia data release (Gaia DR2), combined with RAVE spectroscopic surveys, to identify the substructures in the nearby stellar halo. We select 3,845 halo stars kinematically and chemically, and determine their density distribution in energy and angular momentum space. To select the substructures from overdensities, we reshuffle the velocities and estimate their significance. Two statistically significant substructures, GR-1 and GR-2, are identified. GR-1 has a high binding energy and small $z$-angular momentum. GR-2 is metal-rich but retrograde. Based on the second Gaia data release (DR2), combined with the LAMOST and APOGEE spectroscopic surveys, we study the kinematics and metallicity distribution of the high-velocity stars that have a relative speed of at least 220 ${\rm km\ s^{-1}}$ with respect to the local standard of rest in the Galaxy. The rotational velocity distribution of the high-velocity stars with [Fe/H] $>-1.0$ dex can be well described by a two-Gaussian model, with peaks at $V_{\phi}\sim +164.2\pm0.7$ and $V_{\phi}\sim +3.0\pm0.3$ ${\rm km\ s^{-1}}$, associated with the thick disk and halo, respectively. This implies that there should exist a high-velocity thick disk (HVTD) and a metal-rich stellar halo (MRSH) in the Galaxy. The HVTD stars have the same position as the halo in the Toomre diagram and but show the same rotational velocity and metallicity as the canonical thick disk. The MRSH stars have basically the same rotational velocity, orbital eccentricity, and position in the Lindblad and Toomre diagram as the canonical halo stars, but they are more metal-rich. Furthermore, the metallicity distribution function (MDF) of our sample stars are well fitted by a four-Gaussian model, associated with the outer-halo, inner-halo, MRSH, and HVTD, respectively. The LAMOST-\textit{K}2 (L\textit{K}2) project, initiated in 2015, aims to collect low-resolution spectra of targets in the \textit{K}2 campaigns, similar to LAMOST-\textit{Kepler} project. By the end of 2018, a total of 126 L\textit{K}2 plates had been observed by LAMOST. After cross-matching the catalog of the LAMOST data release 6 (DR6) with that of the \textit{K}2 approved targets, we found 160,619 usable spectra of 84,012 objects, most of which had been observed more than once. The effective temperature, surface gravity, metallicity, and radial velocity from 129,974 spectra for 70,895 objects are derived through the LAMOST Stellar Parameter Pipeline (LASP). The internal uncertainties were estimated to be 81 K, 0.15 dex, 0.09 dex and 5 kms$^{-1}$, respectively, when derived from a spectrum with a signal-to-noise ratio in the $g$ band (SNR$_g$) of 10. These estimates are based on results for targets with multiple visits. The external accuracies were assessed by comparing the parameters of targets in common with the APOGEE and GAIA surveys, for which we generally found linear relationships. A final calibration is provided, combining external and internal uncertainties for giants and dwarfs, separately. Phase \RNum{2} of the LAMOST-{\sl Kepler/K}2 survey (LK-MRS), initiated in 2018, aims at collecting medium-resolution spectra ($R\sim7,500$; hereafter MRS) for more than $50,000$ stars with multiple visits ($\sim60$ epochs) over a period of 5 years (2018 September to 2023 June). We selected 20 footprints distributed across the {\sl Kepler} field and six {\sl K}2 campaigns, with each plate containing a number of stars ranging from $\sim2,000$ to $\sim 3,000$. During the first year of observations, the LK-MRS has already collected $\sim280,000$ and $\sim369,000$ high-quality spectra in the blue and red wavelength range, respectively. The atmospheric parameters and radial velocities for $\sim259,000$ spectra of $21,053$ targets were successfully calculated by the LASP pipeline. The internal uncertainties for the effective temperature, surface gravity, metallicity, and radial velocity are found to be $100$\,K, $0.15$\,dex, $0.09$\,dex, and $1.00$\,km\,s$^{-1}$, respectively. We found $14,997$, $20,091$, and $1,514$ stars in common with the targets from the LAMOST low-resolution survey (LRS), GAIA and APOGEE, respectively, corresponding to a fraction of $\sim70\%$, $\sim95\%$ and $\sim7.2\%$. In general, the parameters derived from LK-MRS spectra are consistent with those obtained from the LRS and APOGEE spectra, but the scatter increases as the surface gravity decreases when comparing with the measurements from APOGEE. A large discrepancy is found with the GAIA values of the effective temperature. The comparisons of radial velocities of LK-MRS to GAIA and LK-MRS to APOGEE nearly follow an Gaussian distribution with a mean $\mu\sim1.10$ and $0.73$\,km\,s$^{-1}$, respectively., Comment: 24 pages, 15 figures, 4 tables, ApJS, accepted

We report the discovery of a new transition type Wolf-Rayet (WR) WN/C star in the Galaxy. According to its coordinates (R.A., Dec)J2000 = 18h51m39.7s, -05d34m51.1s, and the distance (7.11 kpc away from Earth) inferred from the second Gaia, data release, it's found that WR 121-16 is located in the Far 3 kpc Arm, and it is 3.75 kpc away from the Galactic Center. The optical spectra obtained by the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) and the 2.16 m telescope, both located at the Xinglong Observatory in China, indicate that this is a WR star of the transitional WN7o/WC subtype. A current stellar mass of about 7.1 M_solar, a mass-loss rate of M_dot = 10^(-4.97) M_solar/yr, a bolometric luminosity of log L/L_solar = 4.88, and a stellar temperature of T_* = 47 kK are derived, by fitting the observed spectrum with a specific Potsdam Wolf-Rayet (PoWR) model. The magnitude in V-band varies between 13.95 and 14.14 mag, while no period is found. Based on the optical spectra, the time domain data, and the indices of the astrometric solution of the Gaia data, WR 121-16 is likely a transitional WN/C single star rather than a WN+WC binary., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures. Theoretical stellar spectra rely on model stellar atmospheres computed based on our understanding of the physical laws at play in the stellar interiors. These models, coupled with atomic and molecular line databases, are used to generate theoretical stellar spectral libraries (SSLs) comprising of stellar spectra over a regular grid of atmospheric parameters (temperature, surface gravity, abundances) at any desired resolution. Another class of SSLs is referred to as empirical spectral libraries; these contain observed spectra at limited resolution. SSLs play an essential role in deriving the properties of stars and stellar populations. Both theoretical and empirical libraries suffer from limited coverage over the parameter space. This limitation is overcome to some extent by generating spectra for specific sets of atmospheric parameters by interpolating within the grid of available parameter space. In this work, we present a method for spectral interpolation in the optical region using machine learning algorithms that are generic, easily adaptable for any SSL without much change in the model parameters, and computationally inexpensive. We use two machine learning techniques, Random Forest (RF) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and train the models on the MILES library. We apply the trained models to spectra from the CFLIB for testing and show that the performance of the two models is comparable. We combine asteroseismology, optical high-resolution spectroscopy, and kinematic analysis for 26 halo red giant branch stars in the \textit{Kepler} field in the range of $-2.5<[\mathrm{{Fe}/{H}}]<-0.6$. After applying theoretically motivated corrections to the seismic scaling relations, we obtain an average mass of $0.97\pm 0.03\,\mathrm{M_{\odot}}$ for our sample of halo stars. Although this maps into an age of $\sim 7\,\mathrm{Gyr}$, significantly younger than independent age estimates of the Milky Way stellar halo, we considerer this apparently young age is due to the overestimation of stellar mass in the scaling relations. There is no significant mass dispersion among lower red giant branch stars ($\log g>2$), which constrains a relative age dispersion to $<18\%$, corresponding to $<2\,\mathrm{Gyr}$. The precise chemical abundances allow us to separate the stars with [{Fe}/{H}]$>-1.7$ into two [{Mg}/{Fe}] groups. While [$\alpha$/{Fe}] and [{Eu}/{Mg}] ratios are different between the two subsamples, [$s$/Eu], where $s$ stands for Ba, La, Ce, and Nd, does not show a significant difference. These abundance ratios suggest that the chemical evolution of the low-Mg population is contributed by type~Ia supernovae, but not by low-to-intermediate mass asymptotic giant branch stars, providing a constraint on its star formation timescale as $100\,\mathrm{Myr}<\tau<300\,\mathrm{Myr}$. We also do not detect any significant mass difference between the two [{Mg}/{Fe}] groups, thus suggesting that their formation epochs are not separated by more than 1.5 Gyr., Comment: 44 pages. accepted version

Since September 2018, LAMOST starts a new 5-year medium-resolution spectroscopic survey (MRS) using bright/gray nights. We present the scientific goals of LAMOST-MRS and propose a near optimistic strategy of the survey. A complete footprint is also provided. Not only the regular medium-resolution survey, but also a time-domain spectroscopic survey is being conducted since 2018 and will be end in 2023. According to the detailed survey plan, we expect that LAMOST-MRS can observe about 2 million stellar spectra with ~7500 and limiting magnitude of around G=15 mag. Moreover, it will also provide about 200 thousand stars with averagely 60-epoch observations and limiting magnitude of G~14 mag. These high quality spectra will give around 20 elemental abundances, rotational velocities, emission line profiles as well as precise radial velocity with uncertainty less than 1 km/s. With these data, we expect that LAMOST can effectively leverage sciences on stellar physics, e.g. exotic binary stars, detailed observation of many types of variable stars etc., planet host stars, emission nebulae, open clusters, young pre-main-sequence stars etc., Comment: 25 pages, 10 figues. Interesting chemically peculiar field stars may reflect their stellar evolution history and their possible origin in a different environment from where they are found now, which is one of the most important research fields in Galactic archaeology. To explore this further, we have used the CN-CH bands around 4000 A to identify N-rich metal-poor field stars in LAMOST DR3. Here we expand our N-rich metal-poor field star sample to ~100 stars in LAMOST DR5, where 53 of them are newly found in this work. We investigate light elements of the common stars between our sample and APOGEE DR14. While Mg, Al, and Si abundances generally agree with the hypothesis that N-rich metal-poor field stars come from enriched populations in globular clusters, it is still inconclusive for C, N, and O. After integrating the orbits of our N-rich field stars and a control sample of normal metal-poor field stars, we find that N-rich field stars have different orbital parameter distributions compared to the control sample, specifically, apocentric distances, maximum vertical amplitude (Zmax), orbital energy, and z direction angular momentum (Lz). The orbital parameters of N-rich field stars indicate that most of them are inner-halo stars. The kinematics of N-rich field stars support their possible GC origin. The spatial and velocity distributions of our bona fide N-rich field star sample are important observational evidence to constrain simulations of the origin of these interesting objects., Comment: Accepted by ApJ.
