Background and Objective: The University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) subcommittee on students in distress was convened during the COVID-19 pandemic to develop “plans, programs and mechanisms” to deal with students experiencing distress and mental health concerns. This study was conducted as one of the activities of the Subcommittee to inform policy to address the following research objective: to describe the experiences, perceptions, and knowledge of both students and faculty members of UP Manila regarding distress. Methods: An online survey tool was created using the results from seven online focus group discussions among 20 faculty of UP Manila. The survey was conducted for one month among faculty and students sampled from the seven colleges of UP Manila and the three extension campuses of the Schools of Health Sciences. The different categories which were consistently perceived as important by both faculty and students as well as those with disparity in the perceptions between faculty and students were described and discussed. Results: A total of 136 faculty (F) and 290 students (S) participated in the study, representing 39% vs 98% (F vs S) of the target sample, respectively. Results showed that among the effects of stressors for students, avoidance of schoolwork (F79 vs S70.3%) and sleep disturbance (F79.4 vs S72.4%), were perceived by both faculty and students as the most frequently perceived response of students to stress. Among the causes of stress, unclear boundaries between school and home (F73.5 vs S63.1%), family duties (F76.5 vs S50.7%), lack of socialization (F89 vs S57.6%), limited recreational activity (F76.5 vs S64.8%), adapting to new ways of socialization (F67.6 vs S53.8%), and internet signal (F99.3 vs S88.3%) were perceived by both faculty and students as the most frequently perceived causes of stress. Background: Childhood disability remains a lowly prioritized and funded international health concern in the world today. Exacerbated by poverty, a lack of bureaucratic support, and societal discrimination, rehabilitation services are not readily accessible for Filipino families who happen to have a child with disability. This article intends to determine the perceived barriers of Filipino service users when it comes to accessing rehabilitation services for children with special needs in Cagayan de Oro City and to propose suggestions to improve the access to rehabilitation services from an international health perspective. Methods: The study utilized the four-phased Q methodology, a mixed-method research design with an exploratory sequential approach: (1) creating and validating the Q-sort statements, (2) Q-sorting administration, (3) factor analysis, and (4) interpreting factors. Results: After going through the four phases of Q methodology, the following factors, called “viewpoints” emerged: systemic discrimination based on differences in culture and ethnicity (Viewpoint 1), socioeconomic factors such as affordability and accessibility (Viewpoint 2), and predisposed health beliefs and lack of trust to health professionals (Viewpoint 3). Discussion: Barriers to accessing rehabilitation services in the Philippines go beyond the lack of individual resources. These perceived barriers can be mitigated by employing participatory and collaborative approaches in developing rehabilitation programs for children and their families, viable strategies such as integrating telehealth in the rehabilitation process, and cultural competence in recognizing folkloric beliefs as a way to build trust toward health-care professionals. Portrayal of human doings in popular media has illuminated the social realities of Filipinos’ hidden occupations, presented from an outsider lens reinforced by journalistic biases, as health-compromising, illicit, and socially or personally undesirable. Depiction of hidden occupations becomes ambiguous when the intentions are to entertain, persuade, and monetize. This paper describes the depiction and meanings attached to Filipino hidden occupations featured in popular media and scholarly articles. Utilizing the critical interpretive synthesis (CIS) methodology, we analyzed more than 70 published resources featuring hidden occupations performed by Filipinos. We started with an iterative process of reading and viewing extracted resources, followed by writing reflective comments and online exchanges among the authors. Our findings revealed four emergent themes: (1) insider and outsider lens, (2) lack of choice and power of choice, (3) order amidst chaos, and (4) the nexus between context and hidden occupations. Our interpretation revealed that these hidden occupations occurred within cultural contexts where power dynamics, agency, and survival mattered more than improving health and well-being. We propose these contextual doings are underpinned by feelings of suffering (paghihirap), sense of propriety (hiya), and sense of community (pakikipagkapwa), thus advancing understandings of the unique meanings occupations may hold and reinforcing the need to move forward with the goal of understanding various occupations in a culturally specific and sensitive manner to advance occupational science.

Patients, service users and carers are now expected to contribute to teaching health and social care students in all professions. This follows policy directives driven by a review of failings in NHS standards for patient involvement in all aspects of health and social care. Patient and carer contributions to interprofessional education hold fast to values for patient/carer-centred care. This article discusses the context to service user and carer involvement in health professions education, drawing on current evidence and with considerations for midwifery students. A case study of a well-established carer's session is presented, drawing on the input of a mother, which was continued online during the pandemic. It was ensured that this important learning was not lost when teaching became remote, relying on technology-enhanced learning methods. These adaptations depend on long-standing patient partnerships between faculty in higher education institutions and patients/carers who must feel safe and trust the teaching context where they contribute to student learning. Effective learning can be maintained in online environments to ensure the patient voice remains central to health professions training.

This article concludes the interprofessional education series published by the Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education Research Subgroup, and considers the lessons that can be learned from experiences of emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consideration is given to the practicalities of emergency remote teaching, including its preparation, delivery and proposed outcomes of using online platforms for interprofessional education. The article is written as a guide for others to draw on and includes considerations for future delivery and sustainability of interprofessional education in midwifery practice and other fields of health and social care.

Background: Stroke leads to decrease in physical, emotional, social function, and activities in daily living. Cognitive functions, either basic or higher-level, are fundamental factors in performing tasks and functional activities in daily life. Therefore, cognitive training to enhance functions in stroke patients is necessary. This study developed a cognitive strategy training protocol using the Perceive, Recall, Plan & Perform (PRPP) System of Intervention and the Multicontext Approach to improve cognitive function during performance in instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) tasks. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the task mastery of stroke patients during the performance of IADL tasks and to examine the effects of the cognitive strategy training protocol on cognitive performance in stroke patients. Materials and methods: The study was a quasi-experimental, one-group, pretestposttest research design. Eight stroke patients with cognitive impairment aged between 18-70 years old participated in the study. The intervention called “cognitive strategy training protocol” included 12 sessions, 3 times a week across 4 consecutive weeks. Each session took approximately 60 minutes. An outcome measure was the PRPP System of Task Analysis-Thai version. Descriptive data obtained from Stage One of the PRPP System-Thai version were analyzed to determine for task mastery, and pre-and post-scores of Stage Two of the PRPP System-Thai version were computed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: After the cognitive strategy training protocol, all participants had higher percentage scores obtained from Stage One of the PRPP System-Thai version for at least 1 activity. Five out of eight participants showed higher percentage scores in both activities. Comparing the pre- and post-test scores from Stage Two of the PRPP System-Thai version using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed no significant difference in all activities (p>0.05). We identified evidence from item response theory (IRT) to examine a German translation of the Interprofessional Facilitation Scale (IPFS). The IPFS was administered to n = 130 mixed-health profession participants in a post-interprofessional education practicum questionnaire. We used IRT analyses to examine the following three aspects of the IPFS: (a) general factor strength, (b) subscale usability, and (c) item bias. First, findings indicate a strong, general factor underlying the IPFS that supports unidimensional interpretations. Second, findings supported IPFS overall reliability, but failed to support subscale reliabilities. Third, item bias assessment using a comparator-French sample (n = 89) indicated insubstantial differences across German and French samples. Taken together, we find sufficient evidence to support the IPFS-German translation's application in IPE contexts and unidimensional interpretations. Subscores are not advisable for interpretation, and future researchers should aim to further inspect potential item bias.

Background: To advance occupational therapy knowledge and practice in Southeast Asia, it is pivotal that quality master’s degree programs in occupational therapy are in place. Such a program must respond to the needs of the region in terms of occupational therapy education, practice, and scholarship. By recognizing the diversity of the occupational therapy education and training in the region, it has become possible to consider alternatives in establishing a graduate program in occupational therapy through partnerships and consortia. In order to make an informed decision to decide whether co-creating a master’s program in occupational therapy through an international consortium within the region is possible or not, a needs assessment is warranted. Objectives: To describe the profile of occupational therapists living and working in the Southeast Asian region who would like to pursue a master’s degree in occupational therapy via an international consortium. Materials and methods: An online survey design was used to produce data that would be used to inform the co-creation of an international master’s program in occupational therapy. The survey questionnaire was designed specifically for this study and included three sections: 1) information and consent form; 2) demographic information; and 3) information about the need for and preferences on a master’s program in occupational therapy. Participants were recruited through professional organizations and various social media platforms of national and international occupational therapy groups. Results: Eighty-five final-year occupational therapy students and 143 occupational therapists from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and other countries completed the survey. Majority (62%) of the respondents was interested in pursuing a master’s degree in occupational therapy because they perceived that an advanced degree can enable specialization in practice, promote personal and professional development, and help generate new

This discussion paper aimed to explore various cross-disciplinaryapproaches (i.e., multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, trans-disciplinary,and post-disciplinary) employed in occupational science research. Bydescribing how these approaches are applied in sample studies, ourdiscussion paper shows that taking a cross-disciplinary approach canbroaden understandings of complex societal issues related to health,well-being, and human behaviour. Although our paper is data-free andnon-systematic, we present our reflections to encourage discussion onthe topic of cross-disciplinary approaches. We also want to open thedialogue for occupational scientists to consciously choose cross-disciplinary approaches in their occupational science work. This willenhance the potential for groundbreaking and impactful processes andoutcomes both in research and practice.

Organization and Moderation of the Workshop. Speakers: Lena Sauerzopf, Martina Spiess, Michael Sy, Raymond Francis R. Sarmiento, Dorian Rose, Gerard Fluet, Liliana Paredes, Thierry Keller, Jonghyun Kim, Telerehabilitation after stroke has proven to be a meaningful and effective supplement to face-to-face interventions. This is attractive for several reasons. Firstly, in order to control rising health care costs, many countries experience a shift from prolonged inpatient rehab to outpatient and at-home care. Secondly, of course, care at a distance has been heavily boosted by the Covid-19 pandemic. To adequately set and monitor treatment goals during tele-rehabilitation, we also need valid and reliable tele-assessments. Most importantly, they must be consistently applied in clinical practice. However, while a number of task-oriented and function-based observational tele-assessments have been validated for stroke rehabilitation, they are not yet commonly used in clinical practice by therapists. Clearly, knowledge transfer about tele-assessments from research to clinic has not yet adequately taken place. Also, in addition to clinical skills, the administration of tele-assessments requires digital competencies as well. Therefore, in this workshop we will (1) provide an overview about currently available tele-assessments for individuals with stroke, (2) learn from peers by discussing participants’ experiences and needs with regard to tele-assessments and (3) gain hands-on experience with tele-assessments through practice in small groups. We will explore differences, difficulties, advantages and disadvantages of several tele-assessments by comparing them to in-person assessments. Participants will split into two rooms for practicing tele-assessments. The workshop has the following aims: It offers clinicians the opportunity for learning and self-experience with evidence-based tele-assessments after stroke. Researchers and engineers can use learnings from the discussions to inform the development of new assessments (and supporting technologies) and the creation of educational offers in the area of tele-assessments.

Occupation-based practice (OBP) is central to the practice of occupational therapists where occupations or meaningful activities become the focus of the assessment, intervention, and outcomes measurement process. Although occupational therapists practising in Thailand claim that they engage in OBP, this claim warrants empirical investigation. This study aimed to investigate the experiences and perceptions of hospital-based occupational therapists of OBP within stroke rehabilitation. Utilizing a qualitative design, fourteen occupational therapists were recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews until data saturation was reached. Each interview was recorded and transcribed verbatim, and data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Five themes were identified (1) Perspective towards OBP, (2) OBP as professional value and cultural identity, (3) Implementing OBP for stroke rehabilitation in hospital settings, (4) Environmental factors of using OBP in stroke rehabilitation, and (5) OBP in the service management. Occupational therapists perceived that OBP is important for professional identity. Using OBP provides positive changes in stroke clients. This study provides evidence that will help implement OBP into occupational therapy in Thailand.
