1. Design and Performance Analysis of Multi-scale NOMA for 5G Positioning

Abstract

This paper presents a feasibility study for a novel positioning-communication integrated signal called Multi-Scale Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (MS-NOMA) for 5G positioning. One of the main differences between the MS-NOMA and the traditional positioning signal is MS-NOMA supports configurable powers for different positioning users (P-Users) to obtain better ranging accuracy and signal coverage. Our major contributions are: Firstly, we present the MS-NOMA signal and analyze the Bit Error Rate (BER) and ranging accuracy by deriving their simple expressions. The results show the interaction between the communication and positioning signals is rather limited, and it is feasible to use the MS-NOMA signal to achieve high positioning accuracy. Secondly, for an optimal positioning accuracy and signal coverage, we model the power allocation problem for MS-NOMA signal as a convex optimization problem by satisfying the QoS (Quality of Services) requirement and other constraints. Then, we propose a novel Positioning-Communication Joint Power Allocation (PCJPA) algorithm which allocates the powers of all P-Users iteratively. The theoretical and numerical results show our proposed MS-NOMA signal has great improvements of ranging/positioning accuracy than traditional PRS (Positioning Reference Signal) in 5G, and improves the coverage dramatically which means more P-Users could locate their positions without suffering the near-far effect.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of Lentinus edodes fermentation (LEF) on digestive enzyme activity, antioxidant capacity and morphology of the liver and intestine in largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) fed high plant protein diets (HPPD). LEF was supplemented in HPPD with 0 g kg−1 (LEF0), 10 g kg−1 (LEF1), 20 g kg−1 (LEF2), 30 g kg−1 (LEF3), 40 g kg−1 (LEF4), 50 g kg−1 (LEF5), respectively, and then the six diets were fed to largemouth bass with a body weight of 28.8 ± 0.05 g for eight weeks. Juvenile fish were randomized into 6 groups and each group had 4 replicates with 40 fish. Dietary LEF supplementation alleviated the liver inflammatory reaction of largemouth bass caused by HPPD and improved liver morphology. Goblet cells multiplied and the gut muscle layer thickened after LEF supplementation. The LEF significantly increased amylase activity in the liver and intestine of largemouth bass in individual experimental groups. The LEF could increase the activity of catalase in the liver and intestine of largemouth bass (p < 0.05). The content of malondialdehyde was significantly lower than that in the control group (p < 0.05). Dietary LEF supplementation had no significant effect on the intestinal flora of largemouth bass. These findings imply that LEF supplementation can reduce liver inflammation, enhance intestinal tissue morphology, and eventually benefit largemouth bass health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Featured Application: User terminal positioning based on the 5G system or other ground-based wireless systems. Cellular communication systems support mobile phones positioning function for Enhanced-911 (E-911) location requirements, but the positioning accuracy is poor. The fifth-generation (5G) cellular communication system can use indoor distribution systems to provide accurate multiple time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) and single time-of-arrival (TOA) measurements, which could significantly improve the indoor positioning ability. Unlike iterative localization algorithms for TDOA or TOA, the existing closed-form algorithms, such as the Chan-Ho algorithm, do not have convergence problems, but can only estimate position based on one kind of measurement. This paper proposes a closed-form localization algorithm for multiple TDOAs and single TOA measurements. The proposed algorithm estimates the final position result using three-step weighted least squares (WLSs). The first WLS provides an initial position for the last two steps. Then the algorithm uses two WLSs to estimate position based on heteroscedastic TDOA and TOA measurements. In addition, the geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) of the proposed hybrid TDOA and TOA positioning has been derived. The analysis of GDOP shows that the proposed hybrid positioning has lower GDOP than TDOA-only positioning, which means the proposed hybrid positioning has a higher accuracy limitation than TDOA-only positioning. The simulation shows that the proposed localization algorithm could have better performance than closed-form TDOA-only positioning methods, and the positioning accuracy could approximate Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) when the TDOA measurement errors are small. 29. A cross-cultural study of job satisfaction for faculty in one university in the People's Republic of China and in one university in the United States of America

Abstract

This cross-cultural study examined the characteristics of the Chinese culture and the American culture, the job satisfaction of university faculties from the two cultures, and the impacts of culture on faculty job satisfaction. Locke's job satisfaction theory that emphasizes the influence of people's value system on job satisfaction was used as the theoretical framework. The results of data analysis through non-parametric tests, a discriminant analysis, and simultaneous analyses showed that the Chinese culture as reflected by the Chinese faculty was characterized by its emphasis on the familial bond between parents and children, and the American culture as reflected by the American faculty manifested the tendency of keeping distance from family and ingroups. Descriptive analysis indicated that a high portion of the Chinese faculty (82%) and the American faculty (85%) were satisfied with their jobs overall. The Chinese faculty were most satisfied with the challenging nature of work, expectation, recognition, work load and research requirement, but least satisfied with the relationships with chairs and the promotion process. The American faculty were most satisfied with the academic autonomy, promotion process, relationships with chairs and colleagues, but least satisfied with working conditions, salaries, and administration. Comparatively, the American faculty were more satisfied with their job overall and with the promotion process while the Chinese faculty were more satisfied with the administration. The "culture" variable was not found to be a significant predictor of job satisfaction for either the Chinese faculty or the American faculty. The academic rank and discipline affiliation were found to have a substantial impact on faculty job satisfaction for the two faculties. Two hypotheses of Locke's job satisfaction theory were upheld. When structural equation modeling technique was applied, this theory provided good overall fit to the two faculties.

30. Optical properties and microstructure of Ta2O5 thin films prepared by ion assisted electron beam evaporation.

Abstract

An effective method for determining the refractive index of weak absorption transparent thin films was presented, which is also applicable to other weak absorption dielectric thin films. The as-deposited Ta2O5 thin films prepared by ion assisted electron beam evaporation showed a maxima transmittance as high as 93% which was close to that of the bare substrate, and exhibited a blue shift when the substrate temperature increased from room temperature to 250 °C. The refractive index seemed to be immune to the substrate temperature and film thickness with its value about 2.14 at incidence wavelength of 550 nm. The surface morphology measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed that the microstructures lead to the slim optical difference, which was the interplay of substrate temperature and assisted ion beam.
