Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are the new regulators and biomarkers for various tumors. However, in cervical cancer (CC), the potential roles of lncRNAs are not well characterized. This research aimed at exploring the roles of MEOX2 antisense RNA 1(MEOX2-AS1) in CC progression and the underlying mechanisms. The examination of MEOX2-AS1 levels in CC specimens and cell lines was conducted by RT-PCR. Loss-of-function experiments were performed for the assays of proliferation, migration, and invasion of CC cells after various treatments. Animal experiments were applied for the determination of the effects of MEOX2-AS1 in vivo. Bioinformatics analysis, together with dual-luciferase reporter assays, was applied to demonstrate the possible relationships among MEOX2-AS1, miR-143-3p and VDAC1. In the paper, we reported that MEOX2-AS1 levels were distinctly upregulated in CC cells and tissues, and higher MEOX2-AS1 expressions indicated a poor clinical outcome. Besides, STAT1 could activate transcriptions of MEOX2-AS1 by binding directly to its promoter region. The silence of MEOX2-AS1 suppressed the metastatic and proliferative ability of CC cells, as revealed by functional assays. Mechanistically, MEOX2-AS1 sponged miR-143-3p to regulate VDAC1 expressions. Furthermore, miR-143-3p inhibitor reversed the anti-proliferation and anti-metastasis effect of MEOX2-AS1 knockdown. Overall, the data indicated that the MEOX2-AS1/miR-143-3p/VDAC1 pathway participated in CC progression, making it a novel therapeutic target for CC cures., Graphical abstract

Digital mental health services (DMHSs) have great potential for mitigating the mental health burden related to COVID-19, but public accessibility (ease of acquiring services when needed) to DMHSs during the pandemic is largely unknown. Accessibility to DMHSs was tracked longitudinally among a nationwide sample of 18,804 adults in China from before to one year after COVID-19 outbreak. Unconditional and conditional latent growth curve models and latent growth mixture models were fitted to explore the overall growth trend, influencing factors, and latent trajectory classes of accessibility to DMHSs throughout COVID-19. Generalized estimating equation models and generalized linear mixed models were employed to explore the association between accessibility to DMHSs and long-term mental health symptoms. We found that people generally reported increased difficulty in accessing DMHSs from before to one year after COVID-19 outbreak. Males, youngsters, individuals with low socioeconomic status, and individuals greatly affected by COVID-19 reported greater difficulty in accessing DMHSs. Four DMHS accessibility trajectory classes were identified: “lowest–great increase” (6.3%), “moderate low–slight increase” (44.4%), “moderate high–slight decrease” (18.1%) and “highest–great decrease” (31.2%). Trajectory classes reporting greater difficulty in accessing DMHSs were at higher risk for long-term mental symptoms. In conclusion, an overall increase in difficulty in accessing DMHSs is observed throughout COVID-19, and heterogeneity exists in DMHS accessibility trajectories. Our results suggest that easy access to DMHSs should be consistently facilitated. Moreover, access gaps should be reduced across demographic groups, and target populations for service allocation should alter as the pandemic evolves.

Infectious disease epidemics have become more frequent and more complex during the 21st century, posing a health threat to the general public and leading to psychological symptoms. The current study was designed to investigate the prevalence of and risk factors associated with depression, anxiety and insomnia symptoms during epidemic outbreaks, including COVID-19. We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, OVID, Medline, Cochrane databases, bioRxiv and medRxiv to identify studies that reported the prevalence of depression, anxiety or insomnia during infectious disease epidemics, up to August 14th, 2020. Prevalence of mental symptoms among different populations including the general public, health workers, university students, older adults, infected patients, survivors of infection, and pregnant women across all types of epidemics was pooled. In addition, prevalence of mental symptoms during COVID-19 was estimated by time using meta-regression analysis. A total of 17,506 papers were initially retrieved, and a final of 283 studies met the inclusion criteria, representing a total of 948,882 individuals. The pooled prevalence of depression ranged from 23.1%, 95% confidential intervals (95% CI: [13.9-32.2]) in survivors to 43.3% (95% CI: [27.1-59.6]) in university students, the pooled prevalence of anxiety ranged from 25.0% (95% CI: [12.0-38.0]) in older adults to 43.3% (95% CI: [23.3-63.3]) in pregnant women, and insomnia symptoms ranged from 29.7% (95% CI: [24.4-34.9]) in the general public to 58.4% (95% CI: [28.1-88.6]) in university students. Prevalence of moderate-to-severe mental symptoms was lower but had substantial variation across different populations. The prevalence of mental problems increased over time during the COVID-19 pandemic among the general public, health workers and university students, and decreased among infected patients. Factors associated with increased prevalence for all three mental health symptoms included female sex, and having physical disorders, psychiatric disorders, COVID infection, colleagues or family members infected, experience of frontline work, close contact with infected patients, high exposure risk, quarantine experience and high concern about epidemics. Frequent exercise and good social support were associated with lower risk for these three mental symptoms. In conclusion, mental symptoms are common during epidemics with substantial variation across populations. The population-specific psychological crisis management are needed to decrease the burden of psychological problem and improve the mental wellbeing during epidemic.

Accumulated reports have indicated that circadian rhythm is closely related to the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD). Recently, adenosine has been identified to modulate circadian clock via adenosine A1 and A2A receptor signaling pathways. Cyclic AMP-response element binding protein (CREB) is a convergent point that plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of depression and is a downstream molecule of adenosine A1 receptor signaling pathway as an endpoint that can regulate the expression of circadian genes Period1 (Per1) and Period2 (Per2). However, whether Per mediates the development of MDD via CREB has not been elucidated. We used chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) to induce depression-like behaviors and found that it could induce decrease in p-CREB and PER1 levels in the hippocampal CA1 region in rats. Both depression-like behaviors and the decreased protein levels could be rapidly rescued by the administration of adenosine A1 receptor agonist 2-Choro-N6-cyclopentyladenosine (CCPA). Furthermore, knockdown of Per1 in hippocampal CA1 region could also induce depression-like behaviors, which could also be rescued by CCPA. Interestingly, Per2 knockdown in hippocampal CA1 region resulted in potential antidepressant-like effect. In addition, knockout of CRE sequence in the promoter regions of either Per1 or Per2 led to depression-like behaviors, which could not be rescued by CCPA. Pandemics have become more frequent and more complex during the twenty-first century. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following pandemics is a significant public health concern. We sought to provide a reliable estimate of the worldwide prevalence of PTSD after large-scale pandemics as well as associated risk factors, by a systematic review and meta-analysis. We systematically searched the MedLine, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science, CNKI, WanFang, medRxiv, and bioRxiv databases to identify studies that were published from the inception up to August 23, 2020, and reported the prevalence of PTSD after pandemics including sudden acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), H1N1, Poliomyelitis, Ebola, Zika, Nipah, Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), H5N1, and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A total of 88 studies were included in the analysis, with 77 having prevalence information and 70 having risk factors information. The overall pooled prevalence of post-pandemic PTSD across all populations was 22.6% (95% confidence interval (CI): 19.9-25.4%, I2: 99.7%). Healthcare workers had the highest prevalence of PTSD (26.9%; 95% CI: 20.3-33.6%), followed by infected cases (23.8%: 16.6-31.0%), and the general public (19.3%: 15.3-23.2%). However, the heterogeneity of study findings indicates that results should be interpreted cautiously. Risk factors including individual, family, and societal factors, pandemic-related factors, and specific factors in healthcare workers and patients for post-pandemic PTSD were summarized and discussed in this systematic review. Long-term monitoring and early interventions should be implemented to improve post-pandemic mental health and long-term recovery.

Objective: Our group aimed to investigate the expression pattern of miRNA-873-5p in cervical cancer (CC) patients and its association with CC progression. Methods: Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was applied for the examination of the expressions of miRNA-873-5p in both CC specimens and cell lines. The clinical significance of miRNA-873-5p was statistically analyzed. MTT, colony formation, Transwell and flow cytometry assays were used to detect cell proliferation, metastasis, and apoptosis changes of Hela and Siha cell line. Luciferase reporter assays and Western blots were utilized to identify the target genes of miRNA-873-5p. Western blot and RT-PCR were used to judge the dysregulation of Notch signaling. Results: Our results indicated that miRNA-873-5p expression was distinctly reduced in CC patients. Low miRNA-873-5p expressions were distinctly correlated with positively distant metastasis, The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage and poor prognosis of CC patients. A functional assay using miRNA-873-5p mimics indicated that overexpression of miRNA-873-5p distinctly suppressed CC cells proliferation and metastasis, and promoted apoptosis. Bioinformatic assays revealed that miRNA-873-5p may target the 3’-UTR of ZEB1 and lead to the suppression of its translation, which was verified by the use of luciferase assays. Finally, overexpression of miRNA-873-5p suppressed the expressions of Jag1, Maml2 and Hey1. Conclusion: Taken together, we firstly provided evidence that miRNA-873-5p expression was a poor favorable factor for CC patients, and the use of miRNA-873-5p may represent a and potential biomarker and promising therapeutic approach for CC.

Locally applied radiation to the tumor is reported to stimulate systemic immune response. During radiotherapy to the abdominal cancer, spleen often receives certain dose, though as an important immune organ, little is known about the impact of splenic irradiation (SI) on systemic immune and local tumor control. Through a mice model, we found that the combination of SI with tumor irradiation (TI) helped in local control. The analysis of the tumor infiltrating leucocytes demonstrated that SI plus TI brought more T cell aggregation in the tumor microenvironment (TME), which helped in tumor control. Increased T cell infiltration may be partly due to higher expression of T cell chemokine in the TME and more expression of CXCR3 on the T cells in the spleen after SI. SI produced more IL-1β in the spleen, IL-1β stimulated the expression of CXCR3 on the T cells, and enhanced their migration ability. Taken together, radiation to the spleen combined with TI helped in local control through promoting T cell infiltration, and may be a considerable means to enhance the immunomodulatory of radiotherapy.

Dickkopf-1(DKK-1), the downstream target of β-catenin/T-cell factor, participates in a negative feedback loop in the Wnt signaling and reported as an important biomarker in many tumors. In this study, we analyzed the expression of DKK-1 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients at both mRNA and protein levels. We used real-time PCR to detect the expression of DKK-1 in 32 PDAC and paired adjacent non-tumor tissues, results suggested that the expression of DKK-1 was increased in PDAC tissues. We found the similar results in the analysis of 3 independent microarray data sets. Immunohistochemical staining of 311 pairs of PDAC tissues suggested that DKK-1 expression was significantly associated with T classification (P = 0.039) and lymph node metastasis (P = 0.035). Furthermore, Kaplan-Meier analysis for DKK-1 expression demonstrated that patients with higher DKK-1 level had shorter overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) time in Ren Ji cohort and online PDAC database at both mRNA and protein levels. Univariable and multivariable Cox regression analysis confirmed that DKK-1 as well as lymph node metastasis and histology were independent predictors of OS in patients with PDAC. This study demonstrated that DKK-1 may be a predictor for prognosis in PDAC patients.

However, the mechanisms underlying the activation of expression of PL2L60 remain unknown. In this study, an intragenic promoter responsible for the activation of PL2L60 within the human PIWIL2 gene has been identified, cloned and characterized. The promoter of PL2L60 is located in the intron 10 of the host gene PIWIL2 . Bioinformatic and mutagenic analysis reveals that this intragenic promoter within the sequence of 50 nucleotides contains two closely arranged cis-acting elements specific for the hepatic leukemia factor (HLF) in the positive strand and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in the negative strand. Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis demonstrates that both the HLF and polymerase II (Pol II), a hallmark of active promoters, directly bind to the sequence, although STAT3 does not. Knockdown of HLF and STAT3 alone or both by RNA interference significantly reduced both promoter activity and the PL2L60 protein expression, although there is no additive effect. The expression of PL2L60 proteins was enhanced when host gene Piwil2 was genetically disrupted in a murine cell model. Taken together, we have identified a PL2L60-specific intragenic promoter in the host gene of PIWIL2 , which is interdependently activated by HLF and STAT3 through steric interaction. This activation is dependent on cellular milieu rather than the integrity of host gene PIWIL 2, highlighting a novel, important mechanism for a cancer-causing gene to be activated during tumorigenesis.

Postretrieval extinction procedures are effective nonpharmacological interventions for disrupting drug-associated memories. Nonetheless, the conditioned stimulus (CS) memory retrieval-extinction procedure is ineffective in inhibiting drug craving and relapse after prolonged withdrawal, which significantly undermines its therapeutic potential. In the present study, we showed that, unlike the CS memory retrieval-extinction procedure, noncontingent heroin injections (unconditioned stimulus [UCS]) 1 hour before the extinction sessions decreased the heroin-priming-induced reinstatement, renewal, and spontaneous recovery of heroin seeking after 28 days of withdrawal (ie, remote heroin-associated memories) in rats. The UCS retrieval manipulation induced reactivation of the basolateral amygdala (BLA) after prolonged withdrawal, and this reactivation was absent with the CS retrieval manipulation. Chemogenetic inactivation of the BLA abolished the inhibitory effect of the UCS memory retrieval-extinction procedure on heroin-priming-induced reinstatement after prolonged withdrawal. Furthermore, the combination of chemogenetic reactivation of BLA and CS retrieval-extinction procedure resembled the inhibitory effect of UCS retrieval-extinction procedure on heroin seeking after prolonged withdrawal. We also observed that the inhibitory effect of the UCS retrieval-extinction procedure is mediated by regulation of AMPA receptor endocytosis in the BLA. Our results demonstrate critical engagement of the BLA in reconsolidation updating of heroin-associated memory after prolonged withdrawal, extending our knowledge of the boundary conditions of the reconsolidation of drug-associated memories.

It is well-known that the activation status of the P53, signal transducer and activator of transcription (Stat)3 and nuclear factor (NF)‑κB signaling pathways determines the radiosensitivity of cancer cells. However, the function of these pathways in radiosensitive vs radioresistant cancer cells remains elusive. The present study demonstrated that adaptive expression of epidermal growth factor (EGF) following exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) may induce radiosensitization of pancreatic cancer (PC) cells through induction of the cyclin D1/P53/poly(ADP‑ribose) polymerase pathway. By contrast, adaptively expressed interleukin (IL)‑6 and insulin‑like growth factor (IGF)‑1 may promote radioresistance of PC cells, likely through activation of the Stat3 and NF‑κB pathways. In addition, cyclin D1 and survivin, which are specifically expressed in the G1/S and G2/M phase of the cell cycle, respectively, are mutually exclusive in radiosensitive and radioresistant PC cells, while Bcl‑2 and Bcl‑xL expression does not differ between radiosensitive and radioresistant PC cells. Therefore, adaptively expressed EGF and IL‑6/IGF‑1 may alter these pathways to promote the radiosensitivity of PC cancers. The findings of the present study highlight potential makers for the evaluation of radiosensitivity and enable the development of effective regimens for cancer radiotherapy.

Endogenous immune response participates in tumor control, and radiotherapy has immune modulatory capacity, but the role of immune modulation in the tumor microenvironment invoked by radiotherapy in radiosensitivity is poorly defined. In the present study, a radio-resistant melanoma cell line was obtained after repeated irradiation to the parental tumor in C57BL/6 mice. Radiotherapy resulted in aggregation of CD8+ and CD3+ T cells, and decrease of myeloid-derived suppressor cells and dendritic cells in the parental tumor, but not in the resistant tumors. CD4+ T cells and B cells did not change significantly. The CD8+ T cell infiltration after radiotherapy is important for tumor response, because in the nude mice and CD8+ T cell-depleted C57BL/6 mice, the parental and resistant tumor has similar radiosensitivity. Patients with good radiation response had more CD8+ T cells aggregation after radiotherapy. Radiotherapy resulted in robust transcription of T cell chemoattractant in the parental cells, and the expression of CCL5 was much higher. These results reveal a novel mechanism of radioresistance, tumor cells inhibit the infiltration of CD8+ T cell after radiotherapy and become radioresistant. Increasing CD8+ T cell infiltration after RT may be an effective way to improve tumor radiosensitivity.

Insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) is a cell membrane receptor involved in cell proliferation and apoptosis, which is highly expressed in lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The present study aimed to observe the influence of IGF-1R silencing on the radiosensitivity of SCC and investigate the potential mechanisms involved. Human lung SCC H520 cells with relatively high expression of IGF-1R were used. IGF-1R expression was silenced using short hairpin RNA. The influence of IGF-1R silencing on radiosensitivity and apoptosis was assessed using a clone formation assay and flow cytometry. The expression levels of proteins relevant in DNA damage repair and hypoxic signaling pathways were analyzed using western blotting. Decreased expression of IGF-1R led to an increase in the sensitivity of H520 cells to irradiation. Molecular analysis showed that the reduced expression of IGF-1R decreased the protein expression of ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM), H2A histone family member X (H2AX) and p53 binding protein 1 (53BP1), which are associated with the DNA repair pathway. Furthermore, 53BP1 is also known to be involved in apoptosis. Proteins involved in the hypoxic pathway, including hypoxia inducible factor 1 α (HIF-1α), matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) were also involved in the radiosensitivity. In conclusion, decreased expression of IGF-1R leads to improved radiosensitivity of SCC cells, and the underlying mechanism may be associated with the decreased expression of proteins involved in ATM/H2AX/53BP1 DNA damage repair and the HIF-1α/MMP-9 hypoxic pathway, which results in the induction of apoptosis and increased radiosensitivity. These findings suggest that targeting of IGF-1R may represent a novel approach for lung SCC radiation treatment.

Optimal level cut-set method is introduced to conduct comprehensive evaluation on constraining fuzziness and convert the fuzzy constraint into general constraint according to the actual conditions and requirements; for multi-objectives, single-objective optimal solutions are fuzzified to form fuzzy sets to establish the membership functions of the fuzzy sets by taking the fuzziness between the single objectives and between the single objectives and multiple objectives into consideration, and multi-objective optimal solutions are obtained by maximizing the membership functions of the fuzzy set intersection. For an actual gear reducer, the fuzzy theory and method are applied to obtain results, and the validness of the method is demonstrated by comparing such results with the conventional design data.

Epidemiological data have indicated that smoking tobacco can decrease the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD). Nicotine, a main component of tobacco, has been shown to have therapeutic effects in AD. The aim of the present study was to assess the neuroprotective effects of nicotine against toxicity induced by β-amyloid (Aβ) in relation to cell apoptosis, and to elucidate the role of the activation of the Erk1/2-p38-JNK pathway and the modulation of anti-apoptotic proteins in the nicotine-induced neuroprotective effects. We performed in vitro and in vivo experiments using SH-SY5Y cells and C57BL/6 mice, respectively. The effects of nicotine on cell apoptosis were determined by flow cytmetry and microscopic observation. The effects of nicotine on the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins were also determined by western blot analysis. Our results demonstrated that nicotine protected the SH-SY5Y cells against Aβ25-35-induced toxicity by inhibiting apoptosis and upregulating the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins. As shown by our in vivo experiments, nicotine effectively ameliorated the impairment in spatial working memory induced by Aβ25-35; this was confirmed by a Morris water maze navigation test and further supported by the upregulation of Bcl-2 in the hippocampus of Aβ25-35-injected mice treated with nicotine. The phosphorylation of Erk1/2, p38 and JNK increased following treatment with nicotine in the SH-SY5Y cells, whereas caspase-3 activation was inhibited by treatment with nicotine prior to exposure to Aβ25-35. Of note, these effects of nicotine against Aβ25-35-induced damage were abolished by inhibitors of Erk1/2, p38 and JNK phosphorylation. These findings suggest that nicotine prevents Aβ25-35-induced neurotoxicity through the inhibition of neuronal apoptosis, and may thus prove to be a potential preventive or therapeutic agent for AD.

Many traditional monopoly industries are pervaded by the external e-commerce in recent years. It is therefore important to address the internet in these special industries. We establish a model under the monopoly with the external e-commerce and the corresponding properties are achieved. This paper shows that it is advantageous for the e-commerce if there are more consumers with internet prone. The effects of the change of the market size are also discussed and we find that this change has more effects on the offline sales. The solid phase microextraction (SPME) uses a fine fused silica fiber coated with a thin layer to extract directly analytes from samples. The silanol group at silica surface, Si-OH, can be acidic, and may exsit as an Si-O- group at certain pH level, and silica backbone may have cation exchange secondary interactions, attracting cationic or basic analytes of interest. It is necessary that pH optimum for water sample should be adjusted. A 7 μm nonpolar polydimethylsiloxane coating was used to extract polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in environmental water such as river water, rainwater, ground water, tap water and accumulated water on farm. The influence of pH on extraction of PAHs in water was investigated, and the optimum pH 6 was affirmed. A GC/MS was used to detect PAHs with the selective ion-monitoring mode. The optimum thermally desorption time of PAHs from the fiber coating was 5 minutes. The precision and the recoveries were ranged from 4 to 13 % RSD and 71 to 114%, respectively, depending on PAHs species. The trace levels of PAHs in environmental water were detected between 0.4~15.4 ng/ml.

On the basis of the theory of FRP sheet steel reinforcing concrete beams (SRC-beams), in order to better explore the force performance of FRP (Fiber Reinforce Plastic) steel reinforcing concrete beams, this paper analyzes the stress process simulation of the beam using the computer program of nonlinear analysis. In order to validate the program of the beam section the reliability of the simulation analysis, this paper brings beam section size and its material performance parameters into program and gets different parameters on the bearing capacity of beams influence law. Research shows that when working in the stage of FRP elasticity the reinforcement of FRP layers has little influence on bend curvature figure. In the elastic-plastic stage it has larger influence and the cure increases with the increase of FRP reinforcement layer. It shows that with the increase of the section stiffness beam bending flexural capacity is also bigger.

A design idea has been brought forward about SRC beams strengthened with CFRP, in order to solve flexural capacity shortage and need strengthening engineering problems. By analyzing loading process, failure mode and loading mechanism, flexural capacity was calculated by superposition method. According to different failure modes and neutral axis’ location in the steel, the computed formula of flexural capacity about SRC beams strengthened with CFRP was proposed, and it provided references for design of SRC beams strengthened with CFRP.

This article constructed a WACD(1,1)-UHF-GARCH(1,1)-IVaR Model to the stock market of China with the theory of ACD and UHF-GARCH, and took Shanghai Pudong Development Bank as an example, gave an empirical analysis to the intraday Value at Risk adjusted by liquidity in our stock market combining the liquidity indicators designed by price impact model. The result shows that: first, the transactions duration has strong clustering character; second, there is also strong GARCH effect on high-frequency data, and good news will come out more volatility than bad news, but the effect of both news impacting on the market have obviously reduced after considering the influence of liquidity; finally, Monte Carlo simulation shows that the Value at Risk will underestimate the real losses without considering the liquidity effects.

A simple, sensitive and accurate method for the simultaneous separation and determination of apigenin and four phenolic acids including chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid and ferulic acid in four dried flowers by high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (ECD) and diode array detection (DAD) has been established. The detection limits of caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid and ferulic acid obtained with ECD were 3, 1 and 4 ng mL−1, and LOD of apigenin and chlorogenic acid obtained with DAD were 1 × 10−2 and 6 × 10−2 μg mL−1. The detection and quantification limits of three phenolic compounds obtained with ECD were two to ninefold greater than those obtained with DAD. As electrochemically inactive compounds, apigenin and chlorogenic acid were detected by DAD. All calibration curves showed good linearity (r ≥ 0.9992) within the test ranges. The recoveries ranged from 95.3 to 101.4% (RSD ≤ 2.9%). This approach could provide scientific evidence for comprehensive evaluation about the effect of the medicine and ensure nutrient status of dried flowers.

Poi, a purplish paste made of cooked taro (Colocasia esculenta), hardens rapidly to a rubbery gel at a refrigeration temperature of 4C. This gelling phenomenon was averted by an addition of α-amylase in poi prior to refrigeration. Two sources (porcine pancreas and Aspergillus oryzae) of the enzyme were compared at usage levels of 200 units and 2,000 units. Both the viscosity readings and textural analyses indicated that the enzymatic treated poi maintained a fresh-poi like softness. The α-amylase from porcine pancreas exhibited the least effect at the 200 unit level, while the α-amylase from Aspergillus oryzae caused a slight thinning of the starch staple. The sensory evaluation indicated that the textural attributes were in agreement with the instrumental measurements. Their flavor profiling indicated a loss of the taro taste, however, no off-flavor was observed from the enzymatic treatment at 4C for up to seven days. Ce phenomene de gelification peut etre evite par addition d'α-amylase dans le poi avant refrigeration. Deux sources de cette enzyme (pancreas porcin et Aspergillus orysae) sont comparees a des concentrations d'utilisation de 200 et 2000 unites.

Stochastic evolutionary game dynamics in hierarchy are very popular in economics and in management sciences. This study extends the model of stochastic evolutionary game dynamics. This paper highlights hierarchy selection model and we show that the hierarchy selection games are more stable without structures in this paper. Furthermore, an example in industrial organization is given to rationally explain the theory in this work. Two calibration models, partial least squares (PLS) and principal component regression (PCR), were applied to the simultaneous determination of quercetin and luteolin by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with electrochemical detection (ECD). The proposed methods were successfully applied to the analysis of dried flower samples. It was found that the relative standard errors of prediction (RSEP) for the validation set of PLS of quercetin and luteolin was 1.31 and 2.23%, and the RSEP of PCR was found to be 3.56 and 4.32%, respectively. Several dried flower samples were analysed and the recoveries were in the range of 95.9–103.3%.

The reported effects of nicotine on dendritic cells (DCs) are controversial. To investigate the factors which determine the effects of nicotine on DCs, immature dendritic cells (imDCs) induced from murine bone marrow were treated with different doses of nicotine with or without lipopolysaccharides (LPS). The morphology and expression of the co-stimulatory molecules CD80, CD86, CD40 and CD54 were observed and determined by microscopy and flow cytometry, respectively. The results showed that, firstly, nicotine treatment promoted the development of DC precursors into imDCs with a semi-mature phenotype revealed by a higher expression of CD11c and more branched projections. Secondly, lower doses of nicotine (16.5 ng/ml), but not higher (200 µg/ml), up-regulated the expression of the co-stimulatory molecules CD80, CD40 and CD54 on imDCs. Co-administration of LPS and nicotine revealed differential effects on co-stimulatory molecule expression on imDCs. Thirdly and importantly, treatment with lower doses of nicotine (16.5 ng/ml) did not augment expression of the CD80, CD86, CD40 and CD54 molecules in mature DCs. Fourthly and interestingly, high doses of nicotine (more than 165 µg/ml) revealed pro-apoptotic activity but lower doses of nicotine (16.5-0.165 ng/ml) achieved an anti-apoptotic effect on imDCs. All data presented here indicate that the controversial effects of nicotine on DCs may be due to the LPS of the nicotinic environment and the dose of nicotine used.

In this paper, we investigate the use of the coupled hidden Markov models (CHMM) for the task of audio-visual text dependent speaker identification. Our system determines the identity of the user from a temporal sequence of audio and visual observations obtained from the acoustic speech and the shape of the mouth, respectively. The multi modal observation sequences are then modeled using a set of CHMMs, one for each phoneme-viseme pair and for each person in the database. The use of CHMMs in our system is justified by the capacity of this model to describe the natural audio and visual state asynchrony as well as their conditional dependency over time. To train a CHMM we first train a speaker independent model using expectation-maximization (EM), and then we build a speaker dependent model using maximum a posteriori (MAP) training. Experimental results on XM2VTS database show that our system improves the accuracy of audio-only or video-only speaker identification at all levels of acoustic signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) from 0 to 30 dB.
