A well-designed photocatalyst with excellent activity and selectivity is crucial for photocatalytic CO2 conversion and utilization. TiO2 is one of the most promising photocatalysts. However, its excessive surface oxidation potential and insufficient surface active sites inhibit its activity and photocatalytic CO2 reduction selectivity. In this work, highly dispersed Bi2Ti2O7 was introduced into defective TiO2 to adjust its oxidation potential and the generation of radicals, further inhibiting reverse reactions during the photocatalytic conversion of CO2. Moreover, an in situ topochemical reaction etching route was designed, which achieved defective surfaces, a contacted heterophase interface, and an efficient electron transfer path. The optimized heterophase photocatalyst exhibited 93.9% CH4 selectivity at a photocatalytic rate of 6.8 μmol·g−1·h−1, which was 7.9 times higher than that of P25. This work proposes a feasible approach to fabricating photocatalysts with well-designed band structures, highly dispersed heterophase interfaces, and sufficient surface active sites to effectively modulate the selectivity and activity of CO2 photoreduction by manipulating the reaction pathways.

Three new cembrane-type diterpenoids

This study aims to explore the mechanism of Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointment in treating rheumatoid arthritis(RA) with syndrome of internal obstruction and cold-dampness and the compatibility characteristics based on thequot;disease-syndrome-formulaquot; association network. A gene set associated with the clinical symptoms of RA was collected from Integrative Pharmacology-based Research Platform of Traditional Chinese Medicine v2.0(TCMIP v2.0). The different expression gene set of RA with syndrome of internal obstruction and cold-dampness was screened out by transcriptomic expression profile detection and bioinformatics data mining of the comparison of RA patients with syndrome of internal obstruction and cold-dampness and healthy volunteers. The chemical composition information of 35 Chinese medicines from Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointment was collected from TCMIP v2.0 and Traditional Chinese Medicine Bank(TCMBank). The candidate targets were predicted based on the similarity principle of compounds structure. The interactive network ofquot;related gene of RA with syndrome of internal obstruction and cold-dampness-candidate target of Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointmentquot; was constructed. The core network targets were screened out by topological characteristics of calculating network, and the functional exploration was carried out based on Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) and Reactome Pathway Database. The compatibility mechanisms of various efficacy groups of Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointment were further explored. The results showed that the candidate targets of Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointment were mainly involved into the modules ofquot;immune-inflammationquot; regulation, nervous system function, cell function, and substance and energy metabolism, etc. The mechanisms of various efficacy groups emphasized on different aspects. The group of dispelling wind and removing dampness-dredging channels and activating collaterals, the group of extinguishing wind and stopping convulsions, and the group of pungent analgesia regulatedquot;immune-inflammationquot; system by warming meridians and dissipating cold. The group of activating blood and resolving stasis and the group of strengthening sinews and bones regulatedquot;immune-inflammationquot; system by activating blood and dredging channels. The group of dispelling wind and removing dampness-dredging channels and activating collaterals, the group of extinguishing wind and stopping convulsions, the group of activating blood and resolving stasis, the group of strengthening sinews and bones, and the group of clearing heat and draining water affected the nervous system by invigorating Qi-blood and benefiting spirit. The group of dispelling wind and removing dampness-dredging channels and activating collaterals and the group of extinguishing wind and stopping convulsions regulated cell function and substance and energy metabolism by dispelling wind and eliminating cold-dampness. The group of activating blood and resolving stasis and the group of strengthening sinews and bones regulated the cell function and substance and energy metabolism by activating blood and strengthening sinews and bones. The results showed that Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointment exerted the comprehensive efficacy of dispelling wind, removing dampness, activating blood, removing stasis, warming meridians, dredging channels, and strengthening sinews and bones through adjusting the imbalance ofquot;immune-inflammationquot;, regulating nervous system, cell function, and interfering with substance and energy metabolism, thus improving the syndrome of internal obstruction and cold-dampness. The findings of this study laid foundations for clarifying the therapeutic characteristics and clinical orientation of Tianhe Zhuifeng Ointment.

Most polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) in the human body are acquired from dietary intake. The chronic exposure of humans to PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs is a major health concern, and these compounds are strictly controlled in many areas. This study measured the levels of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs in Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) farms in Shanghai and determined potential sources. The mean concentrations of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs in the studied crab samples were 264.20 ± 260.14 and 506.25 ± 226.80 pg/g ww (wet weight), respectively. The range of the toxic equivalent (TEQ) for the total PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs in the crab samples was 1.20–29.04 pg TEQ/g ww. Further analysis revealed that the TEQ input to crabs in aquacultural water was 1.6 times higher than the TEQ in edible crab parts. Aquatic plants, shore plants, and feed contributed about 0.05% of the total TEQ input to crabs. The TEQ contribution from sediment was 317 times that found in edible crab parts, and sediment may be the most prevalent source of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs in farm crabs. The evaluation of the Shanghai market crab revealed different levels of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs. The TEQs for the mean PCDD/F and DL-PCB levels were 1.55 ± 1.96 and 1.05 ± 0.55 pg TEQ/g ww, respectively. The tolerable daily intake (TDI) levels of adults and children were lower than the prescribed range (1–4 pg TEQ/kg (weight)·d), indicating no significant chronic or acute ingestion risk for adults and children.

Growing evidence suggests the involvement of the microbiota-gut-brain axis in cognitive impairment induced by sleep deprivation (SD), however how the microbiota-gut-brain axis work remains elusive. Here, we discovered that chronic SD induced intestinal dysbiosis, activated NLRP3 inflammasome in the colon and brain, destructed intestinal/blood-brain barrier, and impaired cognitive function in mice. Transplantation of "SD microbiota" could almost mimic the pathological and behavioral changes caused by chronic SD. Furthermore, all the behavioral and pathological abnormalities were practically reversed in chronic sleep-deprived NLRP3

Two coordination polymers, [M(5-hip)(H2O)3]n (M = Cd2+ (1), Zn2+ (2), 5-hip = 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The crystal structure reveals that complexes 1 and 2 have 1D chain structures by the coordination of metal ions and 5-hip. 1D chains are connected by hydrogen bonds to form a 3D structure. AC impedance analysis shows that the proton conductivity of complexes 1 and 2 comes up to 1.58 × 10-3 S cm-1 (98%RH, 343 K) and 5.27 × 10-4 S cm-1 (98%RH, 353 K), respectively. To further improve the proton conductivity, a hybrid membrane was prepared by the solution casting method with complexes as fillers and sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) as the organic matrix. The proton conductivity of hybrid membranes 1@SPEEK-5 and 2@SPEEK-5 is 1.97 and 1.58 times higher than that of pure SPEEK membranes, respectively. Furthermore, the two complexes are excellent fluorescent sensors, which could detect Cr2O72- in aqueous solution with high sensitivity and selectivity. Both of them have low detection limits for Cr2O72- in aqueous solution, where the detection limit of complex 1 is 0.8 μM and that of complex 2 is 1 μM. The above work demonstrates that the two complexes are dual-functional materials with high proton conduction and good fluorescence properties.

Intractable scratching is the characteristic of chronic itch, which represents a great challenge in clinical practice. However, the mechanism underlying chronic itch development is largely unknown. In the present study, we investigated the role of NMDA receptor in acute itch and in development of chronic itch. A mouse model was developed by painting DNFB to induce allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). We found that the expression of pNR1, which is a subunit of NMDA receptor, was significantly increased in the dorsal root ganglion in the DNFB model. The DNFB-evoked spontaneous scratching was blocked by the NMDA antagonist D-AP-5, the calcium-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) inhibitor KN-93, a CaMKIIα siRNA and the PKC inhibitor LY317615. Moreover, activation of PKC did not reverse the CaMKIIα knockdown-induced decrease in scratching, suggesting that PKC functions upstream of CaMKIIα. Thus, our study indicates that modulation of NR1 receptor by CaMKIIα plays an important role in the development of chronic itch.

Purpose We aimed to investigate whether parental and siblings’ sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) intake had prospective impact on children’s SSB consumption, and the potential sex difference in these associations. Methods This study included a total of 904 children and their parents enrolled from 2004 to 2011 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) cohort study. SSB consumption information was estimated using a short dietary questionnaire and total energy intake was assessed with three-day 24-h dietary assessments at recruitment and follow-up surveys. Multivariate logistic or linear regression analyses were used to assess the association for SSB consumption between parents, siblings and children after adjusting for age, body mass index (BMI) z-score, household income and parental educational level. Results In this study, a majority (87.6%) of children consumed SSB. Among them, the median consumption of SSB was 70.3 ml/day per capita and 205.4 ml/day per consumer. Parental SSB consumption was relevant to children’s SSB consumption, and this association was more pronounced in boys than in girls. Meanwhile, fathers seemed to have a stronger impact on whether children consume SSB than mothers which was reflected by lower P and higher OR. Additionally, children’s SSB intake was prospectively associated with their older siblings’ SSB consumption (Pfor trend Conclusions Parental and older siblings’ SSB consumption was relevant to children’s SSB intake. Particularly, boys were more susceptible to parental impact than girls, and fathers seemed to have a greater influence on children than mothers.

In the soybean cultivar Raiden, both a SMV-resistance gene and a BCMV-resistance gene were fine-mapped to a common region within the Rsv1 complex locus on chromosome 13, in which two CC-NBS-LRR resistance genes (Glyma.13g184800 and Glyma.13g184900) exhibited significant divergence between resistant and susceptible cultivars and were subjected to positive selection. Both Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) can induce soybean mosaic diseases. To date, few studies have explored soybean resistance against these two viruses simultaneously. In this work, Raiden, a cultivar resistant to both SMV and BCMV, was crossed with a susceptible cultivar, Williams 82, to fine-map the resistance genes. After inoculating ~ 200 F2 individuals with either SMV (SC6-N) or BCMV (HZZB011), a segregation ratio of 3 resistant:1 susceptible was observed, indicating that for either virus, a single dominant gene confers resistance. Bulk segregation analysis (BSA) revealed that the BCMV-resistance gene is also linked to the SMV-resistance Rsv1 complex locus. Genotyping the F2 individuals with 12 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers across the Rsv1 complex locus then preliminarily mapped the SMV-resistance gene, Rsv1-r, between SSR markers BARCSOYSSR_13_1075 and BARCSOYSSR_13_1161 and the BCMV-resistance gene between BARCSOYSSR_13_1084 and BARCSOYSSR_13_1115. Furthermore, a population of 1009 F2 individuals was screened with markers BARCSOYSSR_13_1075 and BARCSOYSSR_13_1161, and 32 recombinant F2 individuals were identified. By determining the genotypes of these F2 individuals on multiple internal SSR and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and assaying the phenotypes of selected recombinant F2:3 lines, both the SMV- and BCMV-resistance genes were fine-mapped to a common region ( ~ 154.5 kb) between two SNP markers: SNP-38 and SNP-50. Within the mapped region, two CC-NBS-LRR genes exhibited significant divergence between Raiden and Williams 82, and their evolution has been affected by positive selection.

Aim: To assess whether total pancreatectomy (TP) is as feasible, safe, and efficacious as pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). Materials and Methods: Major databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Science Citation Index Expanded, Scopus and the Cochrane Library, were searched for studies comparing TP and PD between January 1943 and June 2018. The meta-analysis only included studies that were conducted after 2000. The primary outcomes were morbidity and mortality. Pooled odds ratios (ORs), weighted mean differences (WMDs) or hazard ratios (HRs) with 95 percent confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using fixed effects or random effects models. The methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated by the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. Results: In total, 45 studies were included in this systematic review, and 5 non-randomized comparative studies with 786 patients (TP: 270, PD: 516) were included in the meta-analysis. There were no differences in terms of mortality (OR: 1.44, 95% CI: 0.66-3.16; P=0.36), hospital stay (WMD: -0.60, 95% CI: -1.78-0.59; P=0.32) and rates of reoperation (OR: 1.12; 95% CI: 0.55-2.31; P=0.75) between the two groups. In addition, morbidity was not significantly different between the two groups (OR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.01-1.97; P=0.05); however, the results showed that the TP group tended to have more complications than the PD group. Furthermore, the operation time (WMD: 29.56, 95% CI: 8.23-50.89; P=0.007) was longer in the TP group. Blood loss (WMD: 339.96, 95% CI: 117.74-562.18; P=0.003) and blood transfusion (OR: 4.86, 95% CI: 1.93-12.29; P=0.0008) were more common in the TP group than in the PD group. There were no differences in the long-term survival rates between the two groups. Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that TP may not be as feasible and safe as PD. However, TP and PD may have the same efficacy.

The microstructural responses of In0.32Ga0.68N and In0.9Ga0.1N films to 2.25 GeV Xe ion irradiation have been investigated using x-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, ion channeling and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the In-rich In0.9Ga0.1N is more susceptible to irradiation than the Ga-rich In0.32Ga0.68N. Xe ion irradiation with a fluence of 7 × 1011 ions⋅cm−2 leads to little damage in In0.32Ga0.68N but an obvious lattice expansion in In0.9Ga0.1N. The level of lattice disorder in In0.9Ga0.1N increases after irradiation, due to the huge electronic energy deposition of the incident Xe ions. However, no Xe ion tracks were observed to be formed, which is attributed to the very high velocity of 2.25 GeV Xe ions. Point defects and/or small defect clusters are probably the dominant defect type in Xe-irradiated In0.9Ga0.1N.

Histamine-dependent and -independent itch is conveyed by parallel peripheral neural pathways that express gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) and neuromedin B (NMB), respectively, to the spinal cord of mice. B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) has been proposed to transmit both types of itch via its receptor NPRA encoded by Npr1. However, BNP also binds to its cognate receptor, NPRC encoded by Npr3 with equal potency. Moreover, natriuretic peptides (NP) signal through the Gi-couped inhibitory cGMP pathway that is supposed to inhibit neuronal activity, raising the question of how BNP may transmit itch information. Here, we report that Npr3 expression in laminae I-II of the dorsal horn partially overlaps with NMB receptor (NMBR) that transmits histaminergic itch via Gq-couped PLCβ-Ca2+ signaling pathway. Functional studies indicate that NPRC is required for itch evoked by histamine but not chloroquine (CQ), a nonhistaminergic pruritogen. Importantly, BNP significantly facilitates scratching behaviors mediated by NMB, but not GRP. Consistently, BNP evoked Ca2+ responses in NMBR/NPRC HEK 293 cells and NMBR/NPRC dorsal horn neurons. These results reveal a previously unknown mechanism by which BNP facilitates NMB-encoded itch through a novel NPRC-NMBR cross-signaling in mice. Most short-term itches are caused by histamine, a chemical that is released by immune cells following an infection or in response to an allergic reaction. Chronic itching, on the other hand, is not usually triggered by histamine, and is typically the result of neurological or skin disorders, such as atopic dermatitis. The sensation of itching is generated by signals that travel from the skin to nerve cells in the spinal cord. Studies in mice have shown that the neuropeptides responsible for delivering these signals differ depending on whether or not the itch involves histamine: GRPs (short for gastrin-releasing proteins) convey histamine-independent itches, while NMBs (short for neuromedin B) convey histamine-dependent itches. It has been proposed that another neuropeptide called BNP (short for B-type natriuretic peptide) is able to transmit both types of itch signals to the spinal cord. But it remains unclear how this signaling molecule is able to do this. To investigate, Meng, Liu, Liu, Liu et al. carried out a combination of behavioral, molecular and pharmacological experiments in mice and nerve cells cultured in a laboratory. The experiments showed that BNP alone cannot transmit the sensation of itching, but it can boost itching signals that are triggered by histamine. It is widely believed that BNP activates a receptor protein called NPRA. However, Meng et al. found that the BNP actually binds to another protein which alters the function of the receptor activated by NMBs. These findings suggest that BNP modulates rather than initiates histamine-dependent itching by enhancing the interaction between NMBs and their receptor. Understanding how itch signals travel from the skin to neurons in the spinal cord is crucial for designing new treatments for chronic itching. The work by Meng et al. suggests that treatments targeting NPRA, which was thought to be a key itch receptor, may not be effective against chronic itching, and that other drug targets need to be explored.

Our studies suggest that neuropeptides encode histaminergic and nonhistaminergic itch not only through distinct modes but also in synergy.

In the soybean variant V94-5152, a BCMV-resistance gene was mapped near to the region of SMV-resistance Rsv4 locus, raising a possibility that V94-5152 may rely on Rsv4 locus to resist against both SMV and BCMV. Both Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) can induce soybean mosaic diseases, but few studies have explored soybean resistance against BCMV so far. In this study, V94-5152, a soybean variant resistant to BCMV and SMV, was crossed with a susceptible cultivar, Williams 82 to map the resistance gene. By inoculating 292 F2 individuals with a BCMV isolate HZZB011, a segregation ratio of 3 resistant: 1 susceptible was observed, suggesting that V94-5152 possesses a single-dominant resistance gene against BCMV-HZZB011. Bulk segregation analysis (BSA) then revealed that the resistance gene is closely linked to BARCSOYSSR_02_0617, a simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker on chromosome 2. Genotyping neighboring SSR markers among the 292 F2 individuals enabled us to draw a genetic linkage map, which indicated that the BCMV-resistance gene is located 0.2 cM downstream of BARCSOYSSR_02_0617. Amplification and sequencing ten candidate genes (Glyma02g121300 to Glyma02g122200) around this marker then revealed four genes containing nonsynonymous changes or indels. Also, this location is near to the recently cloned SMV-resistance Rsv4 locus from the cultivar Peking. By obtaining ten more sequences of Rsv4 locus from cultivated and wild soybean materials, we further investigated the variation and evolutionary patterns of this virus-resistance locus. It was evident that positive selections had been acting on this locus, with one critical amino acid change (R55P) shared by all resistance soybeans tested.

Although EPS in microbial aggregates are importance in successful implementation of biological wastewater treatment systems, they also exhibit detrimental role on certain circumstance, such as excess sludge dewatering. Extensive efforts have been put into the disruption of EPS for improving the dewaterability of excess sludge and Fenton's reagent treatment has been demonstrated to be a very promising sludge conditioning method for EPS destruction. However, the information regarding detailed degradation process of EPS during Fenton's reagent treatment is limited. In this study, EPS were extracted from activated sludge and treated with different concentrations of Fenton's reagent. The physicochemical characteristic changes of EPS under different treatment were investigated in terms of components, EEM, molecular weight (MW), UV-Vis and FTIR. The results showed that EPS were prone to be disintegrated, but hard to be fully mineralized. Humic substances in EPS were more resistant to Fenton's reagent than other components. Low MW components of EPS were preferentially degraded prior to the disruption of high MW components. Besides, the disintegration of EPS into lower MW ones was accompanied by the formation of higher MW compounds caused by the bridge interaction of Fe ions. The cleavage of protein's backbone in EPS was mainly through destruction of amide II (N-H and C-N) in -CO-NH-. Fenton's reagent treatment also led to a significant increase of oxygen-containing functional groups in EPS molecules. This paper may pave a path to deeply understand the mechanisms of dewatering improvements of excess sludge by Fenton's conditioning.

Gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) is a putative itch-specific neurotransmitter, but definite evidence in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and spinal cord is lacking. We generated and validated a Grp-Cre knock-in (GrpCre-KI) mouse line whereby Grp neurons are genetically labeled. Cre-dependent marking analysis revealed exclusive innervation of the upper epidermis of the skin by GRP fibers. Importantly, optical stimulation of Grp fibers expressing channel rhodopsin (ChR2) in the skin evoked itch but not pain-related scratching behaviors, while conditional deletion of Grp in sensory neurons attenuated non-histaminergic itch. In contrast, intersectional genetic ablation of spinal Grp neurons did not affect itch nor pain transmission. Our study demonstrates a role of GRP in sensory neurons in itch and suggests that GRP sensory neurons are dedicated to itch transmission. Natriuretic peptide (NP) family comprises multiple peptides/receptors whose respective role in itch transmission remains unclear. We report that about 23% of Npr1 that encodes NP receptor A (NPRA) in the superficial spinal cord co-express gastrin-releasing peptide (Grp), while Npr3 that encodes NP receptor C (NPRC), partially overlaps with the neuromedin B receptor (NMBR) required for histamine-evoked itch. While Npr1 is required for chloroquine- (CQ) and histamine-evoked itch, the role of Npr3 is limited to the latter. Notably, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) significantly facilitated NMB-, but not GRP-, evoked scratching behavior, and Ca2 response in NMBR/NPRC cells. Consistently, BNP-saporin ablated spinal Npr1 and Npr3 neurons and impaired histamine-, but not CQ-evoked, itch. Thus, the findings identify the role of BNP-NPRC signaling in modulation of histamine-evoked itch via NPRC-NMBR cross-talk independent of GRP-GRPR signaling. Our studies reveal distinct modes of action for bombesin-related peptides and NP in itch transmission.

Characteristics of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in activated sludge strongly depend on wastewater substrates. Proteinaceous substrates (ProS) present in heterogeneous polymeric form are intrinsic and important parts of wastewater substrates for microorganisms in activated sludge systems. However, correlations between ProS and characteristics of EPS are scarce. This study systematically explored the impacts of monomeric (Mono-), low polymeric (LoP-) and high polymeric (HiP-) ProS on compositions and functional groups of EPS in activated sludge. The results showed that the change of polymerization degree of ProS significantly altered the composition of EPS. Compared to EPSMono-ProS, the proportion of proteins in EPSLoP-ProS and EPSHiP-ProS increased by 12.8% and 27.7%, respectively, while that of polysaccharides decreased by 22.9% and 63.6%, respectively. Moreover, the proportion of humic compounds in EPSLoP-ProS and EPSHiP-ProS were ∼6 and ∼16-fold higher than that in EPSMono-ProS, respectively. The accumulation of humic compounds in EPS increased the unsaturation degree of EPS molecules, and thereby reduced the energy requirement for electrons transition of amide bonds and aromatic groups. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) analyses detected more molecular clusters in EPSHiP-ProS, indicating more complex composition of EPS in HiP-ProS fed activated sludge. Spectroscopic characterization revealed the dominance of hydrocarbon, protein, polysaccharide and aromatic associated bonds in all three EPS. Nevertheless, with the increase of polymerization degree of ProS, the protein associated bonds (such as CONH, CO, NC, NH) increased, while the polysaccharide associated bonds (such as COC, COH, OCOH) decreased. This paper paves a path to understand the role of ProS in affecting the production and characteristics of EPS in biological wastewater treatment systems.

Bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) has been reported to facilitate epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and bone metastasis in breast cancer xenograft models. To investigate the role of BMP-2 in the development of breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs), and to further elucidate the mechanisms underlying its influence on breast cancer metastasis, we conducted a comprehensive molecular study using breast cancer cell lines and clinical samples. Our results showed that downregulation of Rb by BMP-2 was associated with ubiquitin-mediated degradation activated by phosphorylation of Rb via the PI3K/AKT signal pathway. In addition, the Smad signaling pathways are implicated in upregulation of CD44 protein expression by BMP-2. It was suggested that cross-talk exists between Rb and CD44 signaling pathways, as recombinant human BMP-2 (rhBMP-2) was found to regulate CD44 expression partly through Rb signals. In clinical tissues, BMP-2 was positively and negatively correlated with CD44 and Rb expression, respectively. Based on the in vitro and in vivo results, we have established an integrated mechanism by which rhBMP-2 induces EMT and stemness of breast cancer cells via the Rb and CD44 signaling pathways, which then contribute to breast cancer metastasis. These findings may be helpful for developing new strategies for the treatment and prognosis of advanced breast cancer.

Liljencrantz et al . report the failure of observing contagious itch behavior using mice injected with histamine as the demonstrators. Analysis of their results shows that the histamine model is limited by inadequate frequency and duration of scratching bouts required for contagious itch test. To streamline the contagious itch test, the screen paradigm is highly recommended.

A phosphonate coordination polymer, [Cd(H3bmpa)2]n (1), based on Cd2+ ions and H4bmpa (H4bmpa = N-Benzyliminobis(methylenephosphonicacid)) was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. It is characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, PXRD and TGA. Crystal structure indicates that adjacent Cd2+ ions are linked by oxygen atoms in the phosphonate groups to form a 1D chain structure. Adjacent 1D chains are further linked by hydrogen bonds to form a 2D planar structure. Complex 1 is a bifunctional material that has both fluorescent and proton conducting properties. It can detect ascorbic acid sensitively and selectively with a detection limit of 5 µM. To further improve the proton conductivity of Complex 1, PVA (Polyvinyl alcohol) was introduced with it to prepare the composites. The proton conductivity of 1@PVA-10 is 3.05 × 10−5 S·cm−1 (323 K, 98% RH), which is two orders of magnitude higher than that of coordination polymer.

As a natural fiber, kapok fiber has the high hollow degree that is very good for sound absorption. Four different kinds of kapok-based fiber nonwoven fabrics, made by kapok fiber mixing with hollow polyester, viscose fiber, PP fiber and cotton fiber respectively, were made and the sound absorption coefficients were measured in the frequency region of 100 - 6300 Hz by using a two-microphone transfer-function method. The comparisons of the sound absorption for four types of materials with similar thickness and densities with no air gap and with 1 cm, 3 cm air gap were made. The results indicate that the sound absorption of kapok/hollow polyester fiber nonwoven fabrics is superior to those of other three ones and kapok/hollow polyester fiber nonwoven fabrics can be used for sound-absorbing materials in engineering.

This paper introduces the principle and characteristics of roof radiant cooling and displacement ventilation system, using numerical simulation method, the indoor airflow velocity and temperature field of the typical bedroom which uses the composite system in Ji'nan City under the different supply air velocity was calculated. The experimental results show that when the air temperature is 295.15K, to keep the indoor vertical temperature less than 3 °C, air speed should be greater than 0.1m/s and less than or equal to 0.3m/s, to provide reference for the application of roof radiant cooling and displacement ventilation system.

A series of thin, low-cost and environment-friendly organic hybrid composites consisting of reclaimed rubber (R-Rubber) which is a waste product of roller processing of textile mill filled with organic hindered phenol compound 2, 2-methylenebis (6-tert-butyl-4-methyl-phenol) (AO2246) were fabricated. In this study the damping property of the R-Rubber composites were tested in the dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The study concluded that R-Rubber/AO2246 composites exhibited an exceptional damping performance with a broad temperature range. Meanwhile, by addition of AO2246, the tan δ peak maximum (tan δmax) of R-Rubber/AO2246 composite was remarkably increased up to 1.5. Furthermore, with increasing the AO2246 content, storage modulus (E') and loss modulus (E") increases up to R-Rubber/AO2246 (100/80) and then becomes smaller. There is critical value on E and E" increasing which is caused by the excessive crystallization. The Interaction of AO2246 crystallizing, hybridized state and Molecular hydrogen bond led not only to control Tan δmaxof R-Rubber, but also to regulate glass transition temperature and improve the storage modulus, which make R-Rubber have potential applications in fields of engineering.

More and more concern for environmental problems has led public to use natural and environmentally benign sound-absorbing materials. In this study, the sound-absorbing nonwoven composites based on kapok fiber and hollow polyester fiber were developed and sound absorption properties of kapok fiber nonwoven composites were investigated in the low frequency region of 100-500 Hz using the impedance tube method. The poor sound-absorbing at low-frequency is one of the difficult problems that urgently need to be solved in fibrous sound-absorbing materials. The effects of physical parameters, including bulk density and thickness, and depth of back cavity on sound absorption properties of composites were studied. Increasing of the bulk density, thickness and depth of back cavity is contribute to improve sound absorption properties of composites at low frequency. The comparisons of kapok fiber with polypropylene (PP) fiber and hollow polyester fiber indicated that as a natural fiber, kapok fiber had a superior acoustical properties at low frequency.

A key question in our understanding of itch coding mechanisms is whether itch is relayed by dedicated molecular and neuronal pathways. Previous studies suggested that gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) is an itch-specific neurotransmitter. Neuromedin B (NMB) is a mammalian member of the bombesin family of peptides closely related to GRP, but its role in itch is unclear. Here, we show that itch deficits in mice lacking NMB or GRP are non-redundant and Nmb/Grp double KO (DKO) mice displayed additive deficits. Furthermore, both Nmb/Grp and Nmbr/Grpr DKO mice responded normally to a wide array of noxious stimuli. Ablation of NMBR neurons partially attenuated peripherally induced itch without compromising nociceptive processing. Importantly, electrophysiological studies suggested that GRPR neurons receive glutamatergic input from NMBR neurons. Thus, we propose that NMB and GRP may transmit discrete itch information and NMBR neurons are an integral part of neural circuits for itch in the spinal cord.
