SETTING: This was a nationwide cohort study.OBJECTIVE: To assess the treatment outcomes in patients with multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) who underwent treatment guided by a national TB expert review committee in South Korea.DESIGN: We enrolled all patients with MDR-TB submitted for approval for the use of new TB drugs, including bedaquiline and delamanid, from 2016 to 2019. Patients were classified into two groups: those on new TB drugs and those not on new TB drugs. We compared the final treatment outcomes between the groups and analysed the prognostic factors.RESULTS: Of a total of 785 patients, respectively 754 (96.1%) and 31 (3.9%) were classified into the “new TB drugs” group and “no new TB drugs” group. The new TB drugs group had a higher acid-fast bacilli smear positivity rate and higher resistance rate to second-line injectable drugs or fluoroquinolones. Of all the patients, 97.8% achieved culture conversion (97.7% vs. 100%), and 80.4% achieved treatment success (80.2% vs. 86.7%); there was no difference between the two groups.CONCLUSIONS: New drugs are currently recommended for use in all MDR-TB treatment regimens, and the use of new drugs, as determined by an expert committee, in mainly quinolone-susceptible MDR-TB, did not compromise the treatment success rate.

We investigated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) criteria identifying residual tumours in patients with triple-negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer following neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Retrospectively, 290 patients were included who had undergone neoadjuvant chemotherapy and definitive surgery. Clinicopathological features, as well as lesion size and lesion-to-background parenchymal signal enhancement ratio (SER) in early- and late-phase MRIs, were analysed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses evaluated diagnostic performances. Maximal MRI values showing over 90% sensitivity and negative predictive value (NPV) were set as cut-off points. Identified MRI criteria were prospectively applied to 13 patients with hormone receptor-negative (HR-) tumours. The lesion size in HR-HER2-tumours had the highest area under the ROC curve value (0.92), whereas this parameter in HR + HER2 + tumours was generally low (≤ 0.75). For HR-tumours, both sensitivity and NPV exceeded the 90% threshold for early size > 0.2 cm (HR-HER2-) or > 0.1 cm (HR-HER2 +), late size > 0.4 cm, and early SER > 1.3. In the prospective pilot cohort, the criteria size and early SER did not find false negative cases, but one case was false negative with late SER. Distinguishing residual tumours based on MRI is feasible in selected triple-negative and HER2 + breast cancer patients.

A 15-year-old neutered male miniature pinscher was presented with a pedunculated mass (4 × 1 cm) in its urinary bladder. Exploratory cystotomy revealed that the mass was located at the trigone of the bladder and projected into the lumen. The cut surface of the mass was homogeneous grey to tan in colour with focal brown pigmentation. Microscopically, the mass was predominantly composed of neoplastic spindle cells characterized by moderate cellular pleomorphism, invasion into the muscular layer of the bladder wall and few mitotic figures. The neoplastic spindle cells formed interwoven bundles intersecting at various angles. Immunohistochemically, these cells were negative for cytokeratin 7 and α-smooth muscle actin, but strongly expressed S100 and vimentin, confirming a diagnosis of a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour (PNST). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a primary malignant PNST in the urinary bladder of a dog.

The electronic structures of the layered rare-earth chalcogenide compounds of CeTe2, PrTe2, and PrTe3, which have the charge-density wave (CDW) transition and possibly the chiral transition, have been investigated by employing soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). R 3d XAS measurements show that the valence states of Ce and Pr ions are nearly trivalent in all the compounds. Similar band dispersions are observed in their measured ARPES data, but with the band positions in PrTe3 being shifted up in energy compared to those in CeTe2 and PrTe2. These findings suggest that their Te 5p band structures are determined mainly by the 2D interactions in the Te(2)/Te(3) sheets, but with a larger number of holes in the Te 5p bands in PrTe3 than in CeTe2 and PrTe2. The measured constant energy maps of CeTe2, PrTe2, and PrTe3 for high binding energies are similar to one another, reflecting the Te 5p band structures of the Te(2)/Te(3) square nets. In contrast, the Fermi surfaces (FSs) of CeTe2 and PrTe3 exhibit extra features, different from the FS of the ideal Te(2)/Te(3) square nets, which arise from the CDW-induced FS reconstruction in the Te(2)/Te(3) sheets.

In the analysis of velocity fields in turbulent boundary layers, the traditional Reynolds decomposition is universally employed to calculate the fluctuating component of streamwise velocity. Here, we demonstrate the perils of such a determination of the fluctuating velocity in the context of structural analysis of turbulence when applied in the outer region where the flow is intermittently turbulent at a given wall distance. A new decomposition is postulated that ensures non-turbulent regions in the flow do not contaminate the fluctuating velocity components in the turbulent regions. Through this new decomposition, some of the typical statistics concerning the scale and structure of turbulent boundary layers are revisited.

Non-gestational choriocarcinoma (NGCO) is a rare primary ovarian cancer with poor prognosis. It is important to distinguish it from gestational ovarian choriocarcinoma (GCO), because there are different treatment options. However, it is difficult to distinguish the two types by routine histologic, ultrastructural, or immunohistochemical examination. The authors present NGCO in a 41-year-old woman, which was confirmed by DNA polymorphism analysis. All tested microsatellite markers had identical DNA profiles with the same allelic sizes between tumor and normal myometrium of the patient, indicating that both tissues originated from the same person. The results confirmed that the tumor was non-gestational in origin. Although the tumor was large, the authors performed hand- assisted laparoscopic surgical (HALS) staging. After three cycles of combination chemotherapy and surgery, the patient has not had any evidence of disease 48 months after treatment. This case demonstrates the usefulness of HALS staging and DNA polymorphism analysis in NGCO.

To investigate the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for predicting pathologic complete response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) depending on subtypes of breast cancer using different interpretation thresholds of MRI negativity.A total of 353 women with breast cancer who had undergone NAC were included. Pathologic examination after complete surgical excision was the reference standard. Tumors were divided into 4 subtypes on the basis of expression of hormone receptor (HR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). Tumor enhancement was assessed on early and late phases of MRI. MRI negativity was divided into radiologic complete response (rCR, complete absence of enhancement on both early and late phases) and near-rCR (no discernible early enhancement but observed late enhancement).Ninety (25.5%) of 353 patients experienced pathologic complete response. When analyzing the data of all patients, sensitivity of MRI was higher for rCR versus near-rCR (97.72% vs. 90.49%, P .0001), whereas specificity was lower for rCR versus near-rCR (44.44% vs. 72.22%, P .0001). Accuracy was equivalent (84.14% vs. 85.84%). In HR-HER2Diagnostic performance of MRI after NAC differs in accordance with the subtypes and threshold of MRI negativity. MRI assessment with consideration of tumor subtypes is required, along with standardization of MRI interpretation criteria in the NAC setting.

AIM To investigate the effects of the cross-linking agent cinnamaldehyde (CA) on differentiation of human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) cultured in a collagen hydrogel, which may be useful as a scaffold for regenerative endodontic therapy. METHODOLOGY The odontogenic potential of hDPCs exposed to CA was examined using alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, Alizarin red S staining and real-time polymerase chain reaction for odontogenic gene expression. The morphological features of hDPCs cultured in CA-treated collagen were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. Determination of cell numbers for evaluating proliferation was assessed by optical and fluorescence microscopy. To assess the mechanical properties of collagen treated with CA, setting time, compressive strength and surface roughness were measured. Statistical analysis was performed using Student's t-test compared with control (P = 0.05). RESULTS CA per se did not increase ALP activity, calcium nodule formation and expression of odontogenic-related markers (P > 0.05). Ce 3d-4f resonant angle-resolved photoemission measurements on CeCoGe$_{1.2}$Si$_{0.8}$ and CeCoSi$_{2}$ have been performed to understand the Fermi surface topology as a function of hybridization strength between Ce 4$f$- and conduction electrons in heavy-fermion systems. We directly observe that the hole-like Ce 4$f$-Fermi surfaces of CeCoSi$_{2}$ is smaller than that of CeCoGe$_{1.2}$Si$_{0.8}$, indicating the evolution of the Ce 4$f$-Fermi surface with the increase of the hybridization strength. In comparision with LDA calculation, the Fermi surface variation cannot be understood even though the overall electronic structure are roughly explained, indicating the importance of strong correlation effects. Colpotomizer instruments are commonly used in laparoscopic hysterectomy to easily manipulate the uterus. This is the case of a forgotten colpotomy cup retained in the vagina for five years, which led to a rectovaginal fistula. A 54-year-old woman without knowledge of presence of the foreign body visited with chronic abdominal pain and foul odorous discharge. Rectovaginal fistula caused by the retained forgotten colpotomy cup was found upon examination.

We report a $^{35}\mathrm{Cl}$ nuclear magnetic resonance study in the honeycomb lattice $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-${\mathrm{RuCl}}_{3}$, a material that has been suggested to potentially realize a Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL) ground state. Our results provide direct evidence that $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-${\mathrm{RuCl}}_{3}$ exhibits a magnetic-field-induced QSL. For fields larger than $\ensuremath{\sim}10\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{T}$, a spin gap opens up while resonance lines remain sharp, evidencing that spins are quantum disordered and locally fluctuating. The spin gap increases linearly with an increasing magnetic field, reaching $\ensuremath{\sim}50\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{K}$ at 15 T, and is nearly isotropic with respect to the field direction. The unusual rapid increase of the spin gap with increasing field and its isotropic nature are incompatible with conventional magnetic ordering and, in particular, exclude that the ground state is a fully polarized ferromagnet. The presence of such a field-induced gapped QSL phase has indeed been predicted in the Kitaev model.

Raman scattering has been employed to investigate lattice and magnetic excitations of the honeycomb Kitaev material $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ and its Heisenberg counterpart CrCl$_3$. Our phonon Raman spectra give evidence for a first-order structural transition from a monoclinic to a rhombohedral structure for both compounds. Significantly, only $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ features a large thermal hysteresis, consistent with the formation of a wide phase of coexistence. In the related temperature interval of $70-170$ K, we observe a hysteretic behavior of magnetic excitations as well. The stronger magnetic response in the rhombohedral compared to the monoclinic phase evidences a coupling between the crystallographic structure and low-energy magnetic response. Background Recently, we reported cytoskeleton-associated protein2 (CKAP2) as a possible new prognostic breast cancer marker. However, it has not yet been applied in clinic. Therefore, clinical significance of CKAP2 was evaluated in comparison with that of Ki-67 in a cohort of breast cancer patients, and the expression difference was analyzed in cell cycle-arrested cancer and fibroblast cells. Methods A total of 579 early breast cancer patients who underwent surgery at the National Cancer Center Hospital in Korea between 2001 and 2005 were accrued. CKAP2-positive cell count (CPCC) and Ki-67 labeling index (Ki-67LI) were evaluated by immunohistochemcal staining. The immunocytochemical staining patterns of CKAP2 and Ki-67 were analyzed in HeLa and human fibroblast cells after synchronization by double thymidine block. Results Although there was a significant correlation (R = 0.754, P < 0.001) between CPCC and Ki-67LI, only CPCC was correlated with DFS in overall population (HR, 2.029; 95% CI, 1.012–4.068; P = 0.046) and HER2-negative luminal subgroup (HR, 3.984; 95% CI, 1.350–11.762; P = 0.012) by multivariate analysis. In immunocytochemical staining, more than 50% of serum-starved or non-mitotic cell phase HeLa cells were positive for Ki-67, in comparison to the low CKAP2-positivity, which might explain the prognostic difference between CPCC and Ki-67LI. Conclusions The current study showed that CPCC but not Ki-67LI is an independent prognostic indicator in early breast cancer, more specifically in HER2-negative luminal breast cancer. The difference between two markers may be related to the lower background expression of CKAP2 in cancer cells.

The identification of uniform momentum zones in wall-turbulence, introduced by Adrian, Meinhart & Tomkins (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 422, 2000, pp. 1–54) has been applied to turbulent channel flow, revealing a large ‘core’ region having high and uniform velocity magnitude. Examination of the core reveals that it is a region of relatively weak turbulence levels. For channel flow in the range $\def \xmlpi #1{}\def \mathsfbi #1{\boldsymbol {\mathsf {#1}}}\let \le =\leqslant \let \leq =\leqslant \let \ge =\geqslant \let \geq =\geqslant \def \Pr {\mathit {Pr}}\def \Fr {\mathit {Fr}}\def \Rey {\mathit {Re}}Re_{\tau } = 1000\text {--}4000$, it was found that the ‘core’ is identifiable by regions bounded by the continuous isocontour lines of the streamwise velocity at $0.95U_{CL}$ (95 % of the centreline velocity). A detailed investigation into the properties of the core has revealed it has a large-scale oscillation which is predominantly anti-symmetric with respect to the channel centreline as it moves through the channel, and there is a distinct jump in turbulence statistics as the core boundary is crossed. It is concluded that the edge of the core demarcates a shear layer of relatively intense vorticity such that the interior of the core contains weakly varying, very low-level turbulence (relative to the flow closer to the wall). Although channel flows are generally referred to as ‘fully turbulent’, these findings suggest there exists a relatively large and ‘quiescent’ core region with a boundary qualitatively similar to the turbulent/non-turbulent interface of boundary layers, jets and wakes.

We investigated the association between mammographic breast density and breast cancer risk in Korean women according to menopausal status and breast cancer subtypes. We enrolled 677 patients diagnosed with breast cancer and 1,307 healthy controls who participated in screening mammography at the National Cancer Center. Breast density was estimated using volumetric breast composition measurement. Of the total population, 1,156 (58.3 %) women were postmenopausal. The risk of breast cancer increased progressively with the increment of volumetric density grade (VDG) in postmenopausal women (p 2 cm) and a Ki67 index >15 %. High volumetric breast density is significantly associated with the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women; however, these relationships were not found in premenopausal women.

The electronic structure of a charge density wave (CDW) system PrTe3 and its modulated structure in the CDW phase have been investigated by employing ARPES, XAS, Pr 4 f RPES, and first-principles band structure calculation. Pr ions are found to be nearly trivalent, supporting the CDW instability in the metallic Te sheets through partial filling. Finite Pr 4 f spectral weight is observed near the Fermi level, suggesting the non-negligible Pr 4 f contribution to the CDW formation through the Pr 4 f -Te 5p hybridization. The two-fold symmetric features in the measured Fermi surface (FS) of PrTe3 are explained by the calculated FS for the assumed 7 × 1 CDW supercell formation in Te sheets. The shadow bands and the corresponding very weak FSs are observed, which originate from both the band folding due to the 3D interaction of Te sheets with neighboring Pr-Te layers and that due to the CDW-induced FS reconstruction. The straight vertical FSs are observed along kz , demonstrating the nearly 2D character for the near-EF states. The observed linear dichroism reveals the in-plane orbital character of the near-EF Te 5p states.

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNC) of the ovary is a rare tumor in gynecologic oncologic field. An 18-year-old woman presented with abdominal distention and a pelvic mass measuring ten cm in diameter, who previously underwent laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy due to large borderline mucinous ovarian neoplasm 18 months prior. A debulking operation was optimally performed, which included total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection, bilateral paraaortic lymph node dissection, omentectomy, optimal debulking of gastrohepatic mass and subdiaphragmatic mass, and pelvic peritonectomy. Despite adjuvant chemotherapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin, the patient died of progressive disease seven months after surgery. The authors report the youngest case of LCNC of the ovary, that failed chemotherapy and had the previous history of the conservative surgical treatment due to mucinous borderline tumor.

A 51-year-old woman received a laparoscopic surgical staging operation due to endometrial carcinoma. Adjuvant pelvic radiotherapy was performed when the endometrial carcinoma was staged at FIGO Stage IIIC1, adnexa metastasis. Three months completing adjuvant pelvic radiotherapy, a 2.5-cm vaginal stump mass was found by abdomino-pelvic computed tomography (AP-CT). To rule out local recurrence, diagnostic laparoscopic exploration was performed. The pathologic report revealed chronic inflammation due to the presence of a foreign body. To avoid unnecessary surgery during the follow-up of patients with gynecologic malignancies, anti-adhesive material should be avoided which can possibly cause a lesion mimicking local recurrence.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The pathogenesis and characteristics of multiple DAVSs are not well-known. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the angiographic and clinical characteristics of patients with multiple DAVSs with an emphasis on the pathomechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred seventy-nine patients with DAVS were reviewed. Patients with ≥2 fistulas at anatomically separate sites were included. Multiple DAVSs were categorized into synchronous (simultaneous multiplicity) or metachronous (temporal sequential development of multiplicity) types. The angiographic and clinical characteristics of these lesions were analyzed. RESULTS: Fourteen patients were diagnosed with multiple DAVSs (7.8%; synchronous, n = 7; metachronous, n = 7). Thirteen of the 14 patients showed CVR (93%, Borden type II/III). Multiple DAVSs were frequently associated with dural sinus thrombosis (71.4%, n = 10). Synchronous DAVSs developed in association with an occluded sinus (n = 5). De novo metachronous lesions developed in association with thrombosis of a previously patent dural sinus (n = 3) or reopening of an occluded sinus (n = 2). Multiplicity was associated with aggressive initial symptoms in 64.3% (n = 9). The newly developed lesions in the metachronous types were accompanied by hemorrhage (n = 1), neurologic deficit (n = 1), worsening of the initial benign symptoms (n = 2), and incidental detection (n = 3). The mean time interval between the initial diagnosis and de novo lesion detection was 31.3 ± 29.8 months (range, 12–92 months). CONCLUSIONS: Multiplicity of DAVSs is associated with poor angiographic and clinical prognosis, requiring an aggressive treatment and management strategy. Sinus thrombosis has a prominent role in the pathomechanism of DAVSs.

We consider conservation laws with source terms in a bounded domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We first prove the existence of a strong trace at the boundary in order to provide a simple formulation of the entropy boundary condition. Equipped with this formulation, we go on to establish the well-posedness of entropy solutions to the initial-boundary value problem. The proof utilizes the kinetic formulation and the compensated compactness method. Finally, we make use of these results to demonstrate the well-posedness in a class of discontinuous solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for the Degasperis-Procesi shallow water equation, which is a third order nonlinear dispersive equation that can be rewritten in the form of a nonlinear conservation law with a nonlocal source term., 24 pages

Ship fire safety is increasingly attracting attention from both researchers and engineers. This paper develops an approach to integrate ship fire safety assessment and decision-making using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The approach can be used to help reduce the probability of fire occurrence and severity of possible consequences during the operational phase of a passenger ship. It utilises the AHP theory to rank the fire events and further integrates the available control options (to minimise these fires) within the analysis. A test case on the operation of a passenger ship is used to demonstrate the approach.

A three-dimensional finite element analysis of a powder compaction process was undertaken to determine the optimum manufacturing conditions for the complex cylinder block found in the hydraulic pump of an excavator. A porous material model was used to ascertain the material behaviour. The finite element predictions for both the density distribution and compaction load were in good agreement with experimental results.

In order to distinguish Korean cattle (Hanwoo) beef from the imported beef from Australia in Korean markets, DNA In order to distinguish korean cattle (Hanvoo) been from the imported beef from Australia in Korean markets, DNA markers based on PCR-RFLP from mitochondrial genes and SRY gene were applied. A total of 2,826 beef samples comprising 1,495 Hanwoo and 1,331 foreign cattle breeds were obtained in Korea. An 801 bp fragment of the SRY gene on the bovine Y chromosome, a 343 bp fragment of ND4 gene and a 528 bp fragment of ND5 gene in the bovine mtDNA were amplified by PCR and digested with three restriction enzymes, Msel, HpyCH 4 III and Tsp509I, respectively. The results showed that Bos taurus (T) type was the majority in Hanwoo by combining three markers (99.5%). However, 78.2% of Bos indicus (I) type was observed in the imported beef samples. These results indicated that three markers used in this study will be used as valuable markers for discriminating imported beef against Hanwoo.

Estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) has a pivotal role in breast carcinogenesis by associating with various cellular factors. Selective expression of additional sex comb-like 2 (ASXL2) in ERα-positive breast cancer cells prompted us to investigate its role in chromatin modification required for ERα activation and breast carcinogenesis. Here, we observed that ASXL2 interacts with ligand E2-bound ERα and mediates ERα activation. Chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing analysis supports a positive role of ASXL2 at ERα target gene promoters. ASXL2 forms a complex with histone methylation modifiers including LSD1, UTX and MLL2, which all are recruited to the E2-responsive genes via ASXL2 and regulate methylations at histone H3 lysine 4, 9 and 27. The preferential binding of the PHD finger of ASXL2 to the dimethylated H3 lysine 4 may account for its requirement for ERα activation. On ASXL2 depletion, the proliferative potential of MCF7 cells and tumor size of xenograft mice decreased. Together with our finding on the higher ASXL2 expression in ERα-positive patients, we propose that ASXL2 could be a novel prognostic marker in breast cancer.

The electronic structures of a charge density wave (CDW) system $R{\mathrm{Te}}_{2}$ $(R=\text{Ce},\text{Pr})$ have been investigated by employing angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and the first-principles band structure method. The $R$ $4f$ hybridization peak $(4{f}^{n}{c}^{m\ensuremath{-}1})$ in the $R$ $4f$ PES spectrum is located deeper in ${\mathrm{PrTe}}_{2}$ than in ${\mathrm{CeTe}}_{2}$ and $R$ $4f$ spectral intensity near ${E}_{F}$ is much weaker in ${\mathrm{PrTe}}_{2}$ than in ${\mathrm{CeTe}}_{2}$, implying the importance of the hybridization between Ce $4f$ and Te(1) $5p$ electrons. For both ${\mathrm{CeTe}}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{PrTe}}_{2}$, the metallic states crossing the Fermi level $({E}_{F})$ are observed below the CDW transition temperature, indicating the existence of the partially ungapped Fermi surfaces (FSs). The zigzag features having the fourfold rotational symmetry are observed near the $X$ point in the FS of ${\mathrm{CeTe}}_{2}$, but not in the FS of ${\mathrm{PrTe}}_{2}$. The tight-binding model calculations show that the zigzag FS features in ${\mathrm{CeTe}}_{2}$ can be described as the CDW-induced FS reconstruction due to the $4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4$ CDW supercell structure. The effect of the linear dichroism is observed in ARPES, suggesting that the ${E}_{F}$-crossing states have mainly the in-plane orbital character. The photon-energy maps for the near-${E}_{F}$ states exhibit the straight vertical dispersions for both ${\mathrm{CeTe}}_{2}$ and ${\mathrm{PrTe}}_{2}$, demonstrating the dominant two-dimensional character in $R{\mathrm{Te}}_{2}$ $(R=\text{Ce},\text{Pr})$.

Using a combination of muon-spin relaxation $(\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{SR})$, inelastic neutron scattering (INS), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), we investigated the novel iron-based superconductor with a triclinic crystal structure ${({\mathrm{CaFe}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Pt}}_{x}\mathrm{As})}_{10}{\mathrm{Pt}}_{3}{\mathrm{As}}_{8}$ (${T}_{\text{c}}=13$ K), containing platinum-arsenide intermediary layers. The temperature dependence of the superfluid density obtained from the $\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{SR}$ relaxation-rate measurements indicates the presence of two superconducting gaps, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\text{1}}\ensuremath{\gg}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{\text{2}}$. According to our INS measurements, commensurate spin fluctuations are centered at the $(\ensuremath{\pi},\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}0)$ wave vector, like in most other iron arsenides. Their intensity remains unchanged across ${T}_{\text{c}}$, indicating the absence of a spin resonance typical for many Fe-based superconductors. Instead, we observed a peak in the spin-excitation spectrum around $\ensuremath{\hbar}{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{0}=7$ meV at the same wave vector, which persists above ${T}_{\text{c}}$ and is characterized by the ratio $\ensuremath{\hbar}{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{0}/{k}_{\text{B}}{T}_{\text{c}}\ensuremath{\approx}6.2$, which is significantly higher than typical values for the magnetic resonant modes in iron pnictides $(\ensuremath{\sim}4.3)$. The temperature dependence of magnetic intensity at 7 meV revealed an anomaly around ${T}^{*}=45$ K related to the disappearance of this new mode. A suppression of the spin-lattice relaxation rate, $1/{T}_{1}T$, observed by NMR immediately below ${T}^{*}$ without any notable subsequent anomaly at ${T}_{\mathrm{c}}$, indicates that ${T}^{*}$ could mark the onset of a pseudogap in ${({\mathrm{CaFe}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Pt}}_{x}\mathrm{As})}_{10}{\mathrm{Pt}}_{3}{\mathrm{As}}_{8}$, which is likely associated with the emergence of preformed Cooper pairs.

In this paper, accident data collected from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch are presented and an analysis is carried out to determine the most common causes of accidents on fishing vessels. Discussions on fishing vessel-safety assessment and data problems are given.

We report results of the specific heat of the heavy-fermion compounds of the alloying series CeNi1−xCoxGe2. With increasing x, hybridization between the localized 4f and conduction band electrons is enhanced. The magnetic order observed for the x = 0 composition is completely suppressed at a critical concentration of xc = 0.3, yielding Fermi-liquid behaviour for x>0.3. We observe significant deviations from the Fermi-liquid behaviour at xc = 0.3. Anomalies found in the specific heat are well explained by the Kondo model for a degenerate impurity spin J = 1/2,3/2, and 5/2 in the Coqblin–Schrieffer limit for the Co concentration ranges of , , and , respectively.

In this paper, we fabricate RF integrated passive devices (RFIPDs) on two types of substrate. One is smart silicon substrate with a 25-μm-thick SiO2 surface, and the other is glass substrate. A low-cost manufacturing technology, BCB interlayer, and 10-μm Cu plating process are used to implement high-performance RFIPDs. We investigate the power-handling performance with these two types of RFIPDs. Generally, RFIPDs are used for RF front-end module components, so handling power is very important factor. But, these two types of RFIPDs show different handling-power performances. In contrast to the 5.5-W power handling of the LPF on smart silicon substrate, that of the LPF on glass substrate is below 1.5 W (with CW power and 168 h operating time). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The electronic structure of CeTe2 has been investigated by performing high-resolution photoemission spectroscopy (PES) measurements on high-quality stoichiometric single crystals of CeTe2. The Ce 3d XAS measurement indicates that the Ce ions are trivalent. The Ce 4f PES spectrum reveals two-peak structures with the Ce 4f bulk hybridization peak located around 0.8 eV below EF. The high-resolution, high-energy, bulk-sensitive PES study of CeTe2 provides evidence for a metallic density of states near EF. The carriers near EF consist mainly of Ce 5d and Te(1) 5p states, while the contribution from the Ce 4f and Te(2) 5p states is negligible. This finding agrees with the CDW instability in the Te(1) sheets.

The ENCyclopedia Of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Project aims to identify all functional elements in the human genome sequence. The pilot phase of the Project is focused on a specified 30 megabases (∼1%) of the human genome sequence and is organized as an international consortium of computational and laboratory-based scientists working to develop and apply high-throughput approaches for detecting all sequence elements that confer biological function. The results of this pilot phase will guide future efforts to analyze the entire human genome.
