Abstract

Accurate annotation of medical image is the crucial step for image AI clinical application. However, annotating medical image will incur a great deal of annotation effort and expense due to its high complexity and needing experienced doctors. To alleviate annotation cost, some active learning methods are proposed. But such methods just cut the number of annotation candidates and do not study how many efforts the doctor will exactly take, which is not enough since even annotating a small amount of medical data will take a lot of time for the doctor. In this paper, we propose a new criterion to evaluate efforts of doctors annotating medical image. First, by coming active learning and U-shape network, we employ a suggestive annotation strategy to choose the most effective annotation candidates. Then we exploit a fine annotation platform to alleviate annotating efforts on each candidate and first utilize a new criterion to quantitatively calculate the efforts taken by doctors. In our work, we take MR brain tissue segmentation as an example to evaluate the proposed method. Extensive experiments on the well-known IBSR18 dataset and MRBrainS18 Challenge dataset show that, using proposed strategy, state-of-the-art segmentation performance can be achieved by using only 60% annotation candidates and annotation efforts can be alleviated by at least 44%, 44%, 47% on CSF, GM, WM separately.

9. The Method of Multimodal MRI Brain Image Segmentation Based on Differential Geometric Features

Abstract

Accurate segmentation of brain tissue in magnetic resonance images (MRI) is a diffcult task due to different types of brain abnormalities. Using information and features from multimodal MRI including T1, T1-weighted inversion recovery (T1-IR) and T2-FLAIR and differential geometric features including the Jacobian determinant(JD) and the curl vector(CV) derived from T1 modality can result in a more accurate analysis of brain images. In this paper, we use the differential geometric information including JD and CV as image characteristics to measure the differences between different MRI images, which represent local size changes and local rotations of the brain image, and we can use them as one CNN channel with other three modalities (T1-weighted, T1-IR and T2-FLAIR) to get more accurate results of brain segmentation. We test this method on two datasets including IBSR dataset and MRBrainS datasets based on the deep voxelwise residual network, namely VoxResNet, and obtain excellent improvement over single modality or three modalities and increases average DSC(Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), Gray Matter (GM) and White Matter (WM)) by about 1.5% on the well-known MRBrainS18 dataset and about 2.5% on the IBSR dataset. Moreover, we discuss that one modality combined with its JD or CV information can replace the segmentation effect of three modalities, which can provide medical conveniences for doctor to diagnose because only to extract T1-modality MRI image of patients. Finally, we also compare the segmentation performance of our method in two networks, VoxResNet and U-Net network. The results show VoxResNet has a better performance than U-Net network with our method in brain MRI segmentation. Abstract

The free‐standing triboelectric nanogenerator (F‐S TENG) is demonstrated to be an efficient energy conversion device. However, limited by the inherent features of high‐voltage, low alternating current and high output impedance, TENGs suffer from inefficient energy utilization and difficulties in practical applications. Therefore, the efficient harvest of mechanical energy and optimization of output are currently critical issues for TENGs. Here, a strategy is proposed for optimizing the inherent features by coupling F‐S TENG to a capacitor auto‐conversion circuit (CAC). For the first time, a specific idea is proposed explicitly to reduce the output impedance by the management circuit. Eventually, a high current density of 32 A m−2 and a charge density of 1.75 mC m−2 are achieved, which is 8.78 times higher than previous works. The power density and energy density reach to 124 W m−2 and 252 mJ m−2 under 470 and 150 Ω respectively. Then, 5000 LEDs and two lamps rated at 220 V and 50 W are manually illuminated. The resulting pulse output is utilized as a trigger source for the thyristor, enabling DC contactless switching. 24. Asymptomatic COVID-19 infection: diagnosis, transmission, population characteristics

Abstract

A novel coronavirus first discovered in late December 2019 has spread to many countries around the world. An increasing number of asymptomatic patients have been reported and their ability to spread the virus has been proven. This brings major challenges to the control of the transmission. The discovery and control of asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 are the key issues in future epidemic prevention and recovery. In this narrative review, we summarise the existing knowledge about asymptomatic patients and put forward detection methods that are suitable for finding such patients. Besides, we compared the characteristics and transmissibility of asymptomatic patients in different populations in order to find the best screening, diagnosis and control measures for different populations. Comprehensive preventive advice is also provided to prevent the spread of infection from asymptomatic patients.

33. A Robust Constant–Voltage DC Triboelectric Nanogenerator Using the Ternary Dielectric Triboelectrification Effect.

Abstract

Nowadays, the development of direct current triboelectric nanogenerators (DC‐TENGs) is oriented toward practical applications such as real‐time efficient harvesting and supplying energy. This demands DC‐TENGs with a low loss factor, high energy utilization efficiency, device portability, and output stability. Herein, a constant‐voltage DC‐TENG (C‐DC‐TENG) with robust output performance, using the ternary dielectric triboelectrification effect is demonstrated, which gives a crest factor of 1.0082. The key to improving the output charge density is the number of subdivision units, a result of theoretical simulations and experiments of C‐DC‐TENG. The optimized C‐DC‐TENG achieves not only an output charge density of 3.902 mC m−2 per round but also an average power density of 8.77 W m−2 (3.508 W m−2 Hz−1), which both set a new record for the rotary DC‐TENG. Moreover, introducing soft polyester fur enables C‐DC‐TENG to maintain 100% output without wear after 800 000 cycles. This C‐DC‐TENG is faultlessly competent for powering 2784 LEDs in series and 25 parallel‐connected hygrothermographs continuously. Abstract

In general, the lack of effective therapeutic targets has led to the poor prognosis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) has been studied extensively as an effective therapeutic objective for the progression of tumor. Although the fundamental strategy and function of PLK1 in TNBC are still unclear. Here, we demonstrated that PLK1 upregulation was significantly correlated with poor prognosis in breast cancer cases utilizing the TCGA database. Additionally, ectopic PLK1 expression promoted TNBC cell proliferation, VEGFA production, and endothelial cell tube formation, whereas PLK1 knockdown induced the opposite effects. Moreover, expression of PLK1 K82R, the kinase-dead mutant of PLK1, completely inhibited PLK1-mediated cell proliferation, VEGFA production, and tube formation. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) showed that PLK1 expression significantly correlated with mitosis and the VEGF signaling pathway. We further observed that PLK1 phosphorylated centromere protein U (CENPU) at residue T78, thereby regulating the signaling pathway of COX-2/HIF-1α/VEGFA and the metaphase-anaphase transition of mitosis. The mechanism underlying the activity of PLK1 was also determined using a TNBC xenograft mouse model. Moreover, a PLK1 inhibitor effectively inhibited TNBC progression. Taken together, our results revealed that PLK1 plays an important role in TNBC progression via its kinase activity and phosphorylation of CENPU. Thus, PLK1 is an effective therapeutic objective for TNBC.

49. Quaternary Dielectric Triboelectric Nanogenerator for Self-Powered Electrochemical Systems

Abstract

The energy conversion efficiency of conventional binary dielectric triboelectric nanogenerators is not satisfactory due to the limitations of material selection and triboelectrification, which motivates the design of more efficient multicomponent structures to reveal the charge accumulation mechanism for improving the energy conversion efficiency. Herein, a rotating quaternary dielectric triboelectric nanogenerator (Q-TENG) is designed to construct a self-powered system integrating illumination, sensing, and electrochemical decolorization. Through the equivalent capacitance model, the mechanisms for charge generation, transfer, and accumulation in a Q-TENG are elucidated to achieve efficient matching of quaternary dielectric materials and high output performance. At a wind speed of 3.5 m s–1, the peak power density of the Q-TENG reaches 44.94 W m–2, setting a new record for a wind-driven TENG. A 5 ppm solution of methyl orange is completely degraded by the wind-driven Q-TENG in <6 h. This work not only guides the direction for constructing more efficient TENG systems but also promotes the practical development of self-powered electrochemical systems.

50. Multinuclear metal-organic coordination structures containing metal-cluster nodes studied by scanning tunneling microscopy

Abstract

Embedding metal clusters in surface-supported metal-organic frameworks gives rise to multinuclear metal-organic coordination structures (MMOCs). The controllable configurations, exposed clusters, and multilevel interactions of MMOCs imply numerous potential applications, such as in catalysis, light-energy conversion, spintronics, and molecular electronics. Thus, the fabrication of MMOCs has been investigated extensively. According to the formation mechanism of metal clusters, we summarize five types of MMOCs. Attractive properties, e.g., magnetism, charge transfer and chirality, emerge in these systems. The surface-supported feature enables researchers to detect these properties via surface-sensitive techniques, such as scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, noncontact atomic force microscopy and local contact potential difference measurement. In addition, the results obtained from density functional theory calculations can be mutually verified with experiments. These studies pave the way for further applications of MMOCs.
