Abstract Background Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious pregnancy complication associated with impaired trophoblast function. Integrin β3 (ITGB3) is a cell adhesion molecule that plays a role in cell movement. The objective of this study was to identify the biological function and expression level of ITGB3 in PE. Methods Cell proliferation, migration, invasion, adhesion, and apoptosis were estimated by CCK8 assay, transwell, scratch assays, and flow cytometry, respectively. The expression levels of ITGB3 were determined by qRT-PCR, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Co-immunoprecipitation and Alphafold-Multimer protein complex structure prediction software were employed to identify the molecules that interact with ITGB3. Results Cell functional experiments conducted on HTR8/SVneo cells demonstrated that ITGB3 significantly enhanced proliferation, migration, invasion, and adhesion, while simultaneously inhibiting apoptosis. Relative ITGB3 expression levels were observed to be lower in PE placental tissue than in normal tissue and similarly reduced in hypoxic HTR8/SVneo cells. RNA-sequencing data from PE placental samples in the GEO database were analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes associated with the disease. We identified a total of 1460 mRNAs that were significantly differentially expressed in PE patients. Specifically, 798 mRNAs were significantly upregulated, and 662 mRNAs were significantly downregulated. Notably, the ITGB3 exhibited a pronounced down-regulation among the differential expression mRNA. Conclusions This study suggested that ITGB3 plays an important role in promoting the proliferative, migratory, invasive, and adhesive capabilities of trophoblast cells. These findings may facilitate a more in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms that promote PE progression.

Abstract Purpose This retrospective cohort study aimed to identify factors associated with preoperative deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in elderly patients with femoral neck fractures, and to investigate whether combining these factors could improve the ability to predict DVT. Method Medical records and laboratory test results were reviewed patients presenting with a femoral neck fracture and receiving routine chemoprophylaxis for DVT between January 2020 and December 2023 in a tertiary referral, university-affiliated hospital. Preoperative DVT was confirmed by Doppler ultrasound or CT venography. Demographic, injury, comorbidity, and laboratory variables were analyzed using univariate and multivariate approaches. The performance of combined predictive factors was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results Among the 499 patients included, 47 (9.4%) were diagnosed with a preoperative DVT. Abstract Biphasic environments can enable successful chemical reactions where any single solvent results in poor substrate solubility or poor catalyst reactivity. For screening biphasic reactions at high throughput, a platform based on microfluidic double emulsions can use widely available FACS (Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting) machines to screen millions of picoliter reactors in a few hours. However, encapsulating biphasic reactions within double emulsions to form FACS‐sortable droplet picoreactors requires optimized solvent phases and surfactants to produce triple emulsion droplets that are stable over multi‐hour assays and compatible with desired reaction conditions. This work demonstrates such FACS‐sortable triple emulsion picoreactors with a fluorocarbon shell and biphasic octanol‐in‐water core. First, surfactants are screened to stabilize octanol‐in‐water emulsions for the picoreactor core. With these optimized conditions, stable triple emulsion picoreactors (>70% of droplets survived to 24 hr), produced protein in the biphasic core via cell‐free protein synthesis are generated, and sorted these triple emulsions based on fluorescence using a commercial FACS sorter at >100 Hz with 75–80% of droplets recovered. Finally, an in‐droplet lipase assay with a fluorogenic resorufin substrate that partitions into octanol is demonstrated. These triple emulsion picoreactors have the potential for future screening bead‐encoded catalyst libraries, including enzymes such as lipases for biofuel production.

Abstract C1QBP exhibits heightened expression across a spectrum of tumours, thereby fostering their proliferation and metastasis, rendering it a pivotal therapeutic target. Nevertheless, to date, no pharmacological agents capable of directly targeting and inducing the degradation of C1QBP have been identified. In this study, we have unveiled a new peptide, PDBAG1, derived from the precursor protein GPD1, employing a peptidomics‐based drug screening strategy. PDBAG1 has demonstrated substantial efficacy in suppressing triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) both in vitro and in vivo. Its mechanism of action involves mitochondrial impairment and the inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), achieved through direct binding to C1QBP, thereby promoting its ubiquitin‐dependent degradation. Concomitantly, due to metabolic adaptability, we have observed an up‐regulation of glycolysis to compensate for OXPHOS inhibition. We observed an aberrant phenomenon wherein the hypoxia signalling pathway in tumour cells exhibited significant activation under normoxic conditions following PDBAG1 treatment. Through size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) assays, we have validated that PDBAG1 is capable of binding C1QBP with a Kd value of 334 nM. Furthermore, PDBAG1 inhibits homologous recombination repair proteins and facilitates synergism with poly‐ADP‐ribose polymerase inhibitors in cancer therapy. This underscores that PDBAG1 ultimately induces insurmountable survival stress through multiple mechanisms while concurrently engendering therapeutic vulnerabilities specific to TNBC. Key points The newly discovered peptide PDBAG1 is the first small molecule substance found to directly target and degrade C1QBP, demonstrating significant tumour inhibitory effects and therapeutic potential.

Climate change is a global concern driven by greenhouse gas emissions. Bangladesh, being densely populated and a significant carbon emitter, must urgently reduce its “carbon-dioxide emissions”. The primary objectives of this research are to meticulously examine the impact of green growth, non-renewable energy, renewable energy, and technological innovations on carbon dioxide emissions in Bangladesh from 1990 to 2020, with the goal of informing policies for effective and sustainable climate change mitigation in Bangladesh. The analysis using advanced econometric methods, including autoregressive distributed lag, fully modified ordinary least squares, and canonical cointegration regression, reveals that green growth and technological innovations have adverse long-term but positive short-term effects on carbon emissions in Bangladesh. Additionally, it is noteworthy that both non-renewable and renewable energy sources significantly contribute to long-term and short-term carbon emissions. The study confirms the Environmental Kuznets Curve, showing a “∩” shaped relationship between green development and carbon emissions. Policymakers should prioritize green growth, incentivize technological innovation, promote sustainable economic practices, and implement comprehensive energy transition strategies. The insights from this study inform policy formulation to address the complex relationships between green growth, energy sources, and carbon-dioxide emissions for sustainable climate change mitigation in Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s efforts contribute to global emission reduction and foster a resilient future.

Aging brings about physiological dysfunction, disease, and eventual mortality. An increasing number of studies indicate that aging can easily lead to dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, which can further affect digestion, nerves, cognition, emotions, and more. Therefore, gut bacteria play an important role in regulating the physical functions of aging populations. While saponins, the primary components of American ginseng, are frequently utilized for treating common ailments in the elderly due to their potent antioxidant properties, there is a scarcity of comprehensive studies on aging organisms. This study focused on 18 month old aging mice and investigated the effects of single intervention and combined intervention of Rb1 and Re, the main components of Panax quinquefolium saponins, on the gut microbiota of aging mice. High throughput 16s RNA gene sequencing analysis was performed on the gut contents of the tested mice, and the results showed that Rb1 and Re had a significant impact on the gut microbiota. Rb1, Re, and Rb1 + Re can effectively enhance the diversity of gut microbiota, especially in the combined Rb1 + Re group, which can recover to the level of young mice. Re can promote the abundance of probiotics such as Lactobacillus, Lactobacillaceae, and Lactobacillus, and inhibit the abundance of harmful bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae. This indicates that the intervention of Rb1, Re, and Rb1 + Re can maintain the homeostasis of gut microbiota, and the combined application of Rb1 + Re has a better effect. The relationship between aging, brain gut axis, and gut microbiota is very close. Saponins can improve the gut microbiota of aging individuals by maintaining the balance of gut microbiota and the normal function of the brain gut axis, enabling the body to achieve a gut microbiota homeostasis closer to that of young healthy mice.

ABSTRACTThis study utilized column chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to isolate and identify 42 compounds in Potentilla fruticosa L. (PL), which compound 10 and 35 were preliminarily identified. Compounds 5–9, 11–13, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24 and 28 (total 14 polyphenols) promoted glucose consumption in IEC cells, exhibiting potential in reducing blood glucose levels. Mechanistic analysis revealed that the 14 polyphenols significantly inhibited α-glucosidase activity, and (expressed as semi-inhibitory concentration values) the capacity ranking is 13 > 9 > 12 > 5 > 16 > 8 > 17 > 7 > 6 > 11 > 28 > 23 > 24 > 20. Molecular docking showed that all 14 polyphenols have an active binding site with α-glucosidase, and the binding energy is all lower than −6.0 kcal·mol−1, thereby inhibiting the entry of p-nitrophenyl-d-glucoside. The results show that PL polyphenols can be used as effective α-glucosidase inhibitors.

The corn straw cellulose (CS) was extracted from corn straw by sodium chlorite-acetic acid-sodium hydroxide method, and modified by sulfuric acid hydrolysis and sulfuric acid hydrolysis-high pressure homogenization, respectively. Pickering emulsion was prepared by thyme essential oil as oil phase. The effect of cellulose as emulsifier on the stability of Pickering emulsion before and after modification was studied. The structure and properties of the cellulose before and after modification were characterized, and the microstructure, particle size, potential, stability and rheological properties of the emulsion were measured. ABSTRACT: In this paper, using to the comprehensive scoring method, pressure shear assisted extraction was used to prepare polysaccharide from Auricularia auricula (PS-AAP)by orthogonal test to optimize the extraction. The highest comprehensive score (90.70) was obtained under 1: 70 g/mL solid-liquid ratio, 110 °C reaction temperature, 60 min reaction time and 1.0 MPa reaction pressure. Compared to AAP by water bath(WB-AAP), PS-AAP led to a higher extraction efficiency and decreased the relative molecular weight. In addition, infrared spectrum(FT-IR) analysis showed that pressure shear assisted did not change the polysaccharide structure. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) showed that PS-AAP was smaller and more broken by pressure shear assisted. Furthermore, the ratio of glucose to mannose in PS-AAP was relatively higher than WB-AAP, which also proved that PS-AAP had certain antioxidant and hypoglycemic activities. Compared with WB-AAP, the inhibition α-glucosidase and α-amylase activity of PS-AAP increased by 11.37% and 24.43% respectively. These results revealed that PS-AAP has the poten- tial value of being a antioxidant and hypoglycemic agent.

This study aims to use pre-trained models and an improved DPCNN model to extract useful information for sentiment analysis in an e-commerce dataset by combining a general domain text dataset. However, owing to feature distribution differences between text data from different domains, the feature information obtained from a general domain text dataset may contain ambiguities and lead to a scarcity of target domain data, thereby increasing the training error and decreasing the model performance. To address these issues, this study proposes the “SKEP_Gram-CDNN” model for fine-grained sentiment analysis of cross-domain Chinese e-commerce comments. The model introduces the ERNIE_Gram+DPCNN_att model as a generator and the capsule network as a discriminator to construct a cross-domain Chinese e-commerce sentiment analysis model. The performance of the discriminator model was validated on the ASAP_ASPECT dataset released by Meituan to demonstrate its superiority. Moreover, experiments were conducted on the SE-ABSA16_PHNS and SE-ABSA16-CAME target datasets to compare the proposed model with the ERNIE_Gram-CDNN model, which not only proved the effectiveness of the proposed model but also provided favorable methods for cross-domain fine-grained sentiment analysis.

The effect of Tremella fuciformis polysaccharide (TFP) on the retrogradation property and aroma profile changes of tteok during storage was investigated. Results indicated that addition of TFP significantly increased the stability to thermal and mechanical shearing of starch, decreased short-term retrogradation, the hardness and the retrogradation enthalpy (ΔH) of tteok during storage, but had no significant effect on the amylopectin chain length of tteok. The possible mechanism for the retarding staling effect of TFP is related to the interaction between TFP and starch chains that interferes with the alignment of starch chains. Electronic nose and gas chromatography-mass spectrum (GC-MS) analysis results showed that the difference in the concentrations of volatile compounds and fatty acids of tteoks at different storage time gradually increased with the advancement of storage period. The addition of TFP to tteok inhibited the development of unpleasant volatile compounds, probably by delaying the oxidation and decomposition of lipids and preserving the antioxidant phenolic compounds in tteok, thus slowing down the flavor deterioration of tteok and contributing to flavor maintainace. Overall, this study could help food manufacturers to choose a high-effective and natural polysaccharide to control the retrogradation rate and flavor loss of tteok.

E-commerce platforms are evolving rapidly, and consumers have adapted to shop online more effectively by utilizing product images on shopping websites. In the case of apparel, consumers pay attention not only to the information about practical attributes but also to the information about style attributes. In this study, to specifically analyze the respective style recognition capabilities of the depth feature extractor for studying different clothing styles, an empirical investigation was conducted on four commonly utilized networks: AlexNet, InceptionV3, ResNet50, and VGG16. To complete style classification, we propose the IMF model, which integrates shallow neural networks subsequent to feature engineering to incorporate the benefits of basic features and depth features. This process reinforces the basic features through secondary extraction and merges them with depth features to generate style features, ultimately accomplishing the objective of clothing style classification. Furthermore, a DeepCluster based unsupervised learning approach is used in this study as a comparison. Its classification outcomes are compared with those of the IMF model to authenticate the efficacy of IMF model in this study.

Abstract Medical devices are commonly implanted underneath the skin, but how to real‐time noninvasively monitor their migration, integrity, and biodegradation in human body is still a formidable challenge. Here, the study demonstrates that benzyl violet 4B (BV‐4B), a main component in the FDA‐approved surgical suture, is found to produce fluorescence signal in the first near‐infrared window (NIR‐I, 700–900 nm) in polar solutions, whereas BV‐4B self‐assembles into highly crystalline aggregates upon a formation of ultrasmall nanodots and can emit strong fluorescence in the second near‐infrared window (NIR‐II, 1000–1700 nm) with a dramatic bathochromic shift in the absorption spectrum of ≈200 nm. Intriguingly, BV‐4B‐involved suture knots underneath the skin can be facilely monitored during the whole degradation process in vivo, and the rupture of the customized BV‐4B‐coated silicone catheter is noninvasively diagnosed by NIR‐II imaging. Furthermore, BV‐4B suspended in embolization glue achieves hybrid fluorescence‐guided surgery (hybrid FGS) for arteriovenous malformation. As a proof‐of‐concept study, the solid‐state BV‐4B is successfully used for NIR‐II imaging of surgical sutures in operations of patients. Overall, as a clinically translatable solid‐state dye, BV‐4B can be applied for in vivo monitoring the fate of medical devices by NIR‐II imaging.

This study aimed to master the real-time temperature fields of slab tracks on cable-stayed bridges and analyze the thermal deformations. The pivotal heat conduction parameters of the geotextile and rubber pad were obtained through testing, and the governing equations for heat conduction considering temperature variations were improved. A thermal-fluid-solid coupling model for slab track on cable-stayed bridge was proposed. The results indicated that the high temperatures of the track were concentrated within 0.05 m depth of the slab. Under the resistance of the isolation layer, the temperature on both sides of the geotextile isolation layer appeared obvious abrupt change. The time of maximum and minimum temperatures of the truss beam were the same as those of the air. The effects of real-time temperature change on the irregularity of the rail were obvious. In summer, the maximum vertical rail deformation was 201.88 mm and the transverse deformation was 17.87 mm. The temperature change in just one day caused vertical deformation of rail with a range of more than 60%. On a single day in summer, the maximum horizontal irregularity was 1.74 mm, which was less than the 2.0 mm specified in the code.

ABSTRACT: Hericium erinaceus polypeptide (HEP) was prepared by an ultrasound-microwave assisted enzymatic method. Using an ultrafiltration membrane with molecular weights of 5 and 10 kDa, HEP was fractionated into three fractions, namely, (HEP-I (< 5 kDa), HEP-II (5–10 kDa), and HEP-III (> 10 kDa)). In vitro chemical methods were used to compare the antioxidant and hypolipidemic abilities of the polypeptide fractions from H. erinaceus before and after simulated gastrointestinal digestion. By constructing a hyperlipidemia model, the hypolipidemic ability of the high active fraction (HEP-II) was verified. The results showed that the antioxidant and hypolipidemic abilities of the polypeptide fractions from H. erinaceus did not change dramatically during simulated gastrointestinal digestion in vitro. The polypeptide fractions from H. erinaceus exhibited high tolerance to simulated gastrointestinal digestion in vitro, with strong antioxidant and hypolipidemic activities. HEP-II with a molecular weight of 5–10 kDa had the best stability, antioxidant, and hypolipidemic abilities in gastrointestinal digestion. The secondary structure of HEP-II was mainly composed of random coil (18.36%) and α-helix (47.71%) structures, which was beneficial to the hypolipidemic ability of HEP-II. Animal experiments showed that compared to the high-fat model group, HEP-II could inhibit the weight gain of the mice, decrease the liver index and serum levels of the serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), nitric oxide synthase (NOS), alanine aminotransferase (AST), and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (ALT), increase the levels of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), decrease the arteriosclerosis index (AI), and improve the hemorheological indices of the mice. In addition, the whole blood and plasma viscosities of the mice decreased, and HEP-II increased the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the liver, reducing the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), and the degree of oxidative stress in the liver of hypolipidemia mice. Furthermore, HEP-II improved liver steatosis. These results indicated that the polypeptide fractions from H. erinaceus all had a potential hypolipidemic effect, and HEP-II had the strongest potential hypolipidemic effect.

Grasslands cover approximately one-fourth of the land in the world and play a crucial role in the carbon cycle. Therefore, quantifying the gross primary productivity (GPP) of grasslands is crucial to assess the sustainable development of terrestrial ecosystems. Drought is a widespread and damaging natural disaster worldwide, which introduces uncertainties in estimating GPP. Solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) is considered as an effective indicator of vegetation photosynthesis and provides new opportunities for monitoring vegetation growth under drought conditions. In this study, using downscaled GOME-2 SIF satellite products and focusing on the drought event in the Xilingol grasslands in 2009, the ability of SIF to evaluate the variations in GPP due to drought was explored. The results showed that the anomalies of SIF in July–August exhibited spatiotemporal characteristics similar to drought indicators, indicating the capability of SIF in monitoring drought. Moreover, the determination coefficient (R2) between SIF and GPP reached 0.95, indicating that SIF is a good indicator for estimating GPP. Particularly under drought conditions, the relationship between SIF and GPP (R2 = 0.90) was significantly higher than NDVI and GPP (R2 = 0.62), demonstrating the superior capability of SIF in tracking changes in grassland photosynthesis caused by drought compared to NDVI. Drought reduces the ability of NDVI to monitor GPP but does not affect that of SIF to monitor GPP. Our study provides a new approach for accurately estimating changes in GPP under drought conditions and is of significant importance for assessing the carbon dynamics of ecosystems.

Plant proteins are good alternative to animal sources in bioactive peptide production due to their safety, low-cost, rich resources and easy for large scale production. The bioactivities of the peptides derived from plant proteins including antihypertensive, hypocholesterolemic, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, opiate and hepatoprotective effect are being increasingly recognized with regards to health promoting and disease prevention. In addition to bioactivities, the plant-derived bioactive peptides possess various functional properties including emulsifying and foaming properties, and water and oil retention capacities owning to the hydrophilic/lipophilic property, conformational flexibility and chain length of peptides. Hence, the plant-derived bioactive peptides are promising ingredients for the development of health-care and functional products. This review provides the research progress on the biological activities and functional properties of plant derived peptides. The mechanism of action and structure-activity relationships of the bioactive peptide were also described, when known. Furthermore, recent developments, major challenges and prospect in the application of the plant-derive bioactive peptides in the development of functional products are discussed and summarized. The objective of this review is to improve the understanding of plant-derive bioactive peptides, and provide some constructive inspirations for further research and industrial application in the food and medicine industry.

Abstract Backgrounds Grain size is a key factor in crop yield that gradually develops after pollination. However, few studies have reported gene expression patterns in maize grain development using large-grain mutants. To investigate the developmental mechanisms of grain size, we analyzed a large-grain mutant, named tc19, at the morphological and transcriptome level at five stages corresponding to days after pollination (DAP). Results After maturation, the grain length, width, and thickness in tc19 were greater than that in Chang7-2 (control) and increased by 3.57, 8.80, and 3.88%, respectively. Further analysis showed that grain width and 100-kernel weight in tc19 was lower than in Chang7-2 at 14 and 21 DAP, but greater than that in Chang7-2 at 28 DAP, indicating that 21 to 28 DAP was the critical stage for kernel width and weight development. For all five stages, the concentrations of auxin and brassinosteroids were significantly higher in tc19 than in Chang7-2. Gibberellin was higher at 7, 14, and 21 DAP, and cytokinin was higher at 21 and 35 DAP, in tc19 than in Chang7-2. Through transcriptome analysis at 14, 21, and 28 DAP, we identified 2987, 2647 and 3209 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between tc19 and Chang7-2. By using KEGG analysis, 556, 500 and 633 DEGs at 14, 21 and 28 DAP were pathway annotated, respectively, 77 of them are related to plant hormone signal transduction pathway. ARF3, AO2, DWF4 and XTH are higher expressed in tc19 than that in Chang7-2. Conclusions We found some DEGs in maize grain development by using Chang7-2 and a large-grain mutant tc19. These DEGs have potential application value in improving maize performance.

ObjectiveTo analyze the risk factors of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) detachment in orthopedic patients, and to establish a risk nomogram prediction model.MethodsThe clinical data of 334 patients with orthopedic DVT admitted to the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January 2020 to July 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. General statistics included gender, age, BMI, thrombus detachment, inferior vena cava filter window type, filter implantation time, medical history, trauma history, operation, use of tourniquet, thrombectomy, anesthesia mode, anesthesia grade, operative position, blood loss during operation, blood transfusion, immobilization, use of anticoagulants, thrombus side, thrombus range, D-dimer content before filter implantation and during removal of inferior vena cava filter. Logistic regression was used to perform univariate and multivariate analysis on the possible factors of thrombosis detachment, screen out independent risk factors, establish a risk nomogram prediction model by variables, and internally verify the predictability and accuracy of the model.ResultsBinary logistic regression analysis showed that Short time window filter (OR = 5.401, 95% CI = 2.338–12.478), lower extremity operation (OR = 3.565, 95% CI = 1.553–8.184), use of tourniquet (OR = 3.871, 95% CI = 1.733–8.651), non-strict immobilization (OR = 3.207, 95% CI = 1.387–7.413), non-standardized anticoagulation (OR = 4.406, 95% CI = 1.868–10.390), distal deep vein thrombosis (OR = 2.212, 95% CI = 1.047–4.671) were independent risk factors for lower extremity DVT detachment in orthopedic patients (P

BackgroundThe Metabolic score of insulin resistance (METS-IR) has recently been accepted as a reliable alternative to insulin resistance (IR), which was demonstrated to be consistent with the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp. Few pieces of research have focused on the relationship between METS-IR and diabetes in Chinese. The purpose of this research was to explore the effect of METS-IR on new-onset diabetes in a large multicenter Chinese study.MethodsAt the baseline of this retrospective longitudinal research, 116855 participators were included in the Chinese cohort study administered from 2010 to 2016. The subjects were stratified by quartiles of METS-IR. To assess the effect of METS-IR on incident diabetes, the Cox regression model was constructed in this study. Stratification analysis and interaction tests were applied to detect the potential effect of METS-IR and incident diabetes among multiple subgroups. To verify whether there was a dose-response relationship between METS-IR and diabetes, a smooth curve fitting was performed. In addition, to further determine the performance of METS -IR in predicting incident diabetes, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was conducted.ResultsThe average age of the research participators was 44.08 ± 12.93 years, and 62868 (53.8%) were men. METS-IR were significant relationship with new-onset diabetes after adjusting for possible variables (Hazard ratio [HR]: 1.077; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.073-1.082, P < 0.0001), the onset risk for diabetes in Quartile 4 group was 6.261-fold higher than those in Quartile 1 group. Moreover, stratified analyses and interaction tests showed that interaction was detected in the subgroup of age, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting plasma glucose, there was no significant interaction between males and females. Furthermore, a dose-response correlation was detected between METS-IR and incident diabetes, the nonlinear relationship was revealed and the inflection point of METS-IR was calculated to be 44.43. When METS-IR≥44.43, compared with METS-IR < 44.43, the trend was gradually saturated, with log-likelihood ratio test P < 0.001. Additionally, the area under receiver operating characteristic of the METS-IR in predicting incident diabetes was 0.729, 0.718, and 0.720 at 3, 4, and 5 years, respectively.ConclusionsMETS-IR was correlated with incident diabetes significantly, and showed a nonlinear relationship. This study also found that METS-IR had good discrimination of diabetes.

In this study, steam explosion was employed as a modification process for rice bran insoluble dietary fiber (RBIDF) to improve the flavor adsorption and controlled release capacities of RBIDF. Results showed that the flavor adsorption ability of RBIDF was effectively improved due to the unfolding structure, increased specific surface area and pore volume and exposure of more functional groups after steam explosion treatment. The mechanism of the flavor adsorption behavior of modified RBIDF was preliminarily explored using adsorption kinetics and isotherms combined with SEM and DSC analysis. Results showed that the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model yielded the best fit to the adsorption data, indicating monolayer adsorption of flavor onto the modified RBIDF, and the adsorption was mainly driven by chemisorption process. The flavor release profile of modified RBIDF was investigated by HS-SPME/GC-MS and E-nose. After long-time storage, the flavor compounds were retained at a higher concentration in the modified RBIDF compared with the untreated RBIDF, indicating that the steam explosion treatment prolonged the retention time and enhanced the retention and controlled release capacities of RBIDF for flavor compounds. This study provides indications for potential applications of steam explosion-modified RBIDF as a novel flavor delivery system and functional ingredient.

Stropharia rugosoannulata is a widely grown edible mushroom with a high nutritional value. S. rugosoannulata polysaccharides is one of the most important bioactive components of S. rugosoannulata and has a wide range of activities. A S. rugosoannulata polysaccharides, named SRF-3, was derived from the S. rugosoannulata extraction by freeze-thaw combine with hot water extraction method, then prepareed with DEAE-cellulose column and Sephacryl S-200 HR gel column, and its hypolipidemic activity was determined. The structural characteristics of SRF-3 were analyzed by infrared spectral scanning (FT-IR), ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), acid hydrolysis, methylation analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS). SRF-3 is composed of mannose, galactose, methyl galactose and fructose with ratios of 16, 12, 58 and 12, respectively. In addition, the average relative molecular mass of SRF-3 is approximately 24 kDa. The main chain of SRF-3 is mainly composed of repeating α-D-1,6-Galp and α-D-1,6-Me-Galp units, with branches in the O-2 position of Gal. The structure is presumed to be a mannogalactan, with a small amount of t-β-D-Manp present as a side chain. Hypolipidemic activity assay showed that SRF-3 had good antioxidant and hypolipidemic effects in vitro, suggesting that SRF-3 have potential application in reducing liver fat accumulation.

Edible fungi are large fungi with high added value that can be utilized as resources. They are rich in high-quality protein, carbohydrate, various vitamins, mineral elements and other nutrients, and are characterized by high protein, low sugar, low fat and low cholesterol. In addition, edible fungi contain a variety of bioactive substances, such as polysaccharides, dietary fiber, steroids, polyphenols, and most of these compounds have antioxidant, anti-tumor and other physiological functions. This review comprehensively discusses the bioactive components and functional characteristics of edible fungi (such as antioxidant, anti-aging, hypolipidemic activities, etc.). Then the recent developments and prospect in the high-valued utilization of edible fungi are discussed and summarized. The objective of this review is to improve the understanding of health-promoting properties of edible fungi, and provide reference for the industrial production of edible fungi-based health products.

The focus of this study is on the soil physicochemical, biological, and microbiological processes altered by biochar application to heavy metal (HM) contaminated soils. The aim is to highlight agronomical and environmental issues by which the restorative capacity of biochar might be developed. Literature shows biochar can induce soil remediation, however, it is unclear how soil processes are linked mechanistically to biochar production and if these processes can be manipulated to enhance soil remediation. The literature often fails to contribute to an improved understanding of the mechanisms by which biochar alters soil function. It is clear that factors such as biochar feedstock, pyrolysis conditions, application rate, and soil type are determinants in biochar soil functionality. These factors are developed to enhance our insight into production routes and the benefits of biochar in HM soil remediation. Despite a large number of studies of biochar in soils, there is little understanding of long-term effects, this is particularly true with respect to the use and need for reapplication in soil remediation.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to realize automatic segmentation of lung parenchyma based on random walk algorithm to ensure the accuracy of lung parenchyma segmentation. The explicable features of pulmonary nodules were added into VGG16 neural network to improve the classification accuracy of pulmonary nodules.Materials and MethodsLIDC-IDRI, a public dataset containing lung Computed Tomography images/pulmonary nodules, was used as experimental data. In lung parenchyma segmentation, the maximum Between-Class Variance method (OTSU), corrosion and expansion methods were used to automatically obtain the foreground and background seed points of random walk algorithm in lung parenchyma region. The shortest distance between point sets was added as one of the criteria of prospect probability in the calculation of random walk weight function to achieve accurate segmentation of pulmonary parenchyma. According to the location of the nodules marked by the doctor, the nodules were extracted. The texture features and grayscale features were extracted by Volume Local Direction Ternary Pattern (VLDTP) method and gray histogram. The explicable features were input into VGG16 network in series mode and fused with depth features to achieve accurate classification of nodules. Intersection of Union (IOU) and false positive rate (FPR) were used to measure the segmentation results. Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, Accuracy and F1 score were used to evaluate the results of nodule classification.ResultsThe automatic random walk algorithm is effective in lung parenchyma segmentation, and its segmentation efficiency is improved obviously. In VGG16 network, the accuracy of nodular classification is 0.045 higher than that of single depth feature classification.ConclusionThe method proposed in this paper can effectively and accurately achieve automatic segmentation of lung parenchyma. In addition, the fusion of multi-feature VGG16 network is effective in the classification of pulmonary nodules, which can improve the accuracy of nodular classification.

Background: There may be a delay in or a poor outcome of endovascular treatment (EVT) among acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with large-vessel occlusion (LVO) during off-hours. By using a prospective, nationwide registry, we compared the workflow intervals and radiological/clinical outcomes between patients with acute LVO treated with EVT presenting during off- and on-hours.Methods: We analyzed prospectively collected Endovascular Treatment Key Technique and Emergency Work Flow Improvement of Acute Ischemic Stroke (ANGEL-ACT) data. Patients presenting during off-hours were defined as those presenting to the emergency department from Monday to Friday between 17:30 and 08:00, on weekends (from 17:30 on Friday to 08:00 on Monday), and on national holidays. We used logistic regression models with adjustment for potential confounders to determine independent associations between the time of presentation and outcomes.Results: Among 1,788 patients, 1,079 (60.3%) presented during off-hours. The median onset-to-door time and onset-to-reperfusion time were significantly longer during off-hours than during on-hours (165 vs. 125 min, P = 0.002 and 410 vs. 392 min, P = 0.027). The rates of successful reperfusion and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage were similar in both groups. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) for the 90-day modified Rankin Scale score was 0.892 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.748–1.064]. The adjusted OR for the occurrence of functional independence was 0.892 (95% CI, 0.724–1.098), and the adjusted OR for mortality was 1.214 (95% CI, 0.919–1.603).Conclusions: Off-hours presentation in the nationwide real-world registry was associated with a delay in the visit and reperfusion time of EVT in patients with AIS. Abstract Background The prevention of pneumonia is critical for patients with acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). The six subscales in the Braden Scale seem to be related to the occurrence of pneumonia. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using the Braden Scale to predict the occurrence of pneumonia after AIS. Methods We studied a series of consecutive patients with AIS who were admitted to the hospital. The cohort was subdivided into pneumonia and no pneumonia groups. The scores on the Braden Scale, demographic characteristics and clinical characteristics were obtained and analysed by statistical comparisons between the two groups. We investigated the predictive validity of the Braden Scale by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results A total of 414 patients with AIS were included in this study. Of those 414 patients, 57 (13.8%) patients fulfilled the criteria for post-stroke pneumonia. There were significant differences in age and histories of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), dysphagia and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score between the two groups, and the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score in the pneumonia group was significantly higher than that in the no pneumonia group (P

ObjectivesFor colorectal cancer patients, traditional biomarker deficient mismatch repair/microsatellite instability (dMMR/MSI) is an accurate predictor of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Recent years, researchers considered tumor mutation burden (TMB) as another predictive biomarker which means the number of nonsynonymous mutations in cancer cells. Several studies have proven that TMB can evaluate the efficacy of ICI therapy in diverse types of cancer, especially in non-small cell lung cancer and melanoma. However, studies on the association between TMB and the response to ICI therapy in colorectal cancer alone are still lacking. In this study, we aim to verify the effect of TMB as a biomarker in predicting the efficacy of ICIs in colorectal cancer.MethodsWe searched the PubMed and Ovid MEDLINE databases up to May 1, 2021 and screened studies for eligibility. Thirteen studies published from 2015 to 2021 with 5062 patients were included finally. We extracted and calculated hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) of overall survival (OS) and objective response rates (ORRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Pooled HR and OR were evaluated to compare OS and ORR between TMB-high and TMB-low groups in colorectal cancer patients. Meanwhile, we assessed heterogeneity with the I2 statistic and p-values and performed publication bias assessments, sensitivity analyses, and subgroup analyses to search the cause of heterogeneity.ResultsThe TMB-high patient group had a longer OS than the TMB-low patient group (HR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.51, 0.92, p = 0.013) among colorectal cancer patients receiving ICIs. In addition, the TMB-high patient group was superior in terms of ORR (OR = 19.25, 95% CI: 10.06, 36.82, p < 0.001) compared to the TMB-low patient group.ConclusionsIn conclusion, this meta-analysis revealed that TMB can be used as a potential predictive biomarker of colorectal cancer patients receiving ICI therapy. Nevertheless, this finding is not stable enough. Therefore, many more randomized controlled trials are needed to prove that TMB is reliable enough to be used clinically to predict the efficacy of immunotherapy in colorectal cancer. And the most relevant biomarker remains to be determined when TMB high overlaps with other biomarkers like MSI and TILs.

ObjectiveImmediate early response 5 (IER5) plays a core role in cell cycle and response to irradiation. However, its role in glioma remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate its prognostic significance in glioma based on The Cancer Genome Atlas data resource.MethodsThe Kruskal–Wallis test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and logistic regression were employed to explore the relationship between IER5 expression and clinicopathological features. Kaplan–Meier and Cox regression analyses were implemented to investigate the relationship of IER5 with prognosis. A nomogram to estimate the impact of IER5 on prognosis was created based on the Cox multivariate data. We performed gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) to determine the key signaling cascades associated with IER5. Immunohistochemistry was performed to examine IER5 expression in a tissue microarray (TMA) of glioma samples.ResultsImmediate early response 5 gene expression was elevated in glioma patients. The level of IER5 was significantly correlated with WHO grade [OR = 6.71 (4.34–10.68) for G4 vs. G2 and G3], IDH (isocitrate dehydrogenase enzyme) status [OR = 13.35 (8.92–20.46) for wild-type (WT) vs. mutated (Mut)], epidermal growth factor receptor status [OR = 8.42 (4.32–18.43) for Mut vs. WT], age [OR = 0.27 (0.18–0.41) for ≤ 60 years vs. >60 years], and histological type [OR = 7.13 (4.63–11.31] for glioblastoma vs. astrocytoma, oligoastrocytoma, and oligodendroglioma). Univariate analyses revealed that high IER5 expression was linked to short overall survival (OS) [hazard ratio (HR): 3.747; 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.847–4.933; and P < 0.001]. High IER5 expression was linked to poor OS in multivariate analyses (HR: 2.474; 95% CI: 1.552–3.943; and P < 0.001). TMA results showed that high IER5 protein levels were related to short OS (HR: 1.84; 95% CI: 1.10–3.07; and P = 0.021) and poor disease-specific survival (HR: 1.82; 95% CI: 1.09–3.04; and P = 0.023). GSEA showed that many tumor related pathways were enriched differentially in the IER5-high expression group. The C-index and calibration plots of the nomogram showed an effective estimation performance in glioma patients.ConclusionHerein, we established that IER5 plays a critical role in glioma progression and prognosis, which might be an important biomarker for the prognosis of glioma patients.

In this study, hot water was used to extract Inonotus obliquus oligosaccharide. DEAE-cellulose and Sepharose G-200 were used to purify Inonotus obliquus oligosaccharide. Inonotus obliquus oligosaccharide IOP-2A was obtained. Its molecular weight Mw is about 1000 Da. The monosaccharide composition and molar ratio were glucose : xylose : galactose : mannose = 54.1 : 13.6 : 13.2 : 6.7. In addition, it also contains a small amount of galactose, gluconic acid, rhamnose, and fucose. IOP-2A contained mainly β-glycosidic bonds. Among them, 1,4-glycosidic bonds accounted for 9.2%, and 1,6-glycosidic bonds accounted for 85.1%. Oligosaccharide macromolecules formed a layered structure. Mouse experiments showed that IOP-2A had the function of preventing hyperlipidemia. At the same time, IOP-2A had a certain protective effect on the liver and kidney. The mechanism of IOP-2A in preventing hyperlipidemia was obtained from the perspective of mouse intestinal flora.

With Auricularia cornea Ehrenb polysaccharide (ACEP) as raw material, the purpose of the study was to prepare Auricularia cornea Ehrenb polysaccharide-zinc (ACEP-Zn) complex. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and other means are used to analyze the physical-chemical properties and structure of ACEP and ACEP-Zn, to investigate the inhibition of α-glycosidase and α-amylase enzymes, and to explore its effects on the glucose metabolism of insulin-resistant HepG2 cells. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) results show that a group of COO-, -CH3, and -OH in the sugar chain binds to Zn2+. Compared with the original polysaccharides, the surface morphology of ACEP-Zn changed obviously, and the molecular weight (Mn) of ACEP-Zn decreased, but the molecular agglomeration of ACEP-Zn increased. Moreover, the inhibitory effect of ACEP-Zn on α-glucosidase and α-amylase was stronger than that of the original polysaccharide. The results indicated that the structure of Auricularia cornea Ehrenb polysaccharide was changed obviously after the zinc complex, and its hypoglycemic activity was enhanced in vitro. Background: The mechanism underlying delirium, a common acute fluctuating mental state, may be related to the activation of a neuroinflammatory response. In this study, we attempted to investigate whether plasma inflammatory response markers, vascular and cerebrovascular injury-related markers, and neurodegeneration-associated markers were associated with emergence delirium (ED).Methods: Patients aged 50 years or above who underwent elective laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia were included in this study. Delirium was assessed postoperatively with the Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS) and the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU) scale. Plasma samples were collected from ED patients and non-ED patients to test concentrations of inflammation markers, including interleukin 6 (IL-6), chitinase 3-like 1 (CHI3L1), S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B), lipoprotein-associated phospholipase-A2 (Lp-PLA2), and macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF); vascular and cerebrovascular injury-related markers, including intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1); and neurodegeneration-associated markers, including alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) and β-secretase 1 (BACE1). Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the relationship between biomarkers and ED, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyze the diagnostic value of biomarkers.Results: A total of 104 patients were included in this study, with an average age of 63.69 ± 7.21. IL-6 (OR = 2.73, 95% CI: 1.66–6.44, P = 0.022), S100B (OR = 4.74, 95% CI: 1.88–11.95, P = 0.001), and BACE1 (OR = 6.54, 95% CI: 2.57–16.65, P < 0.000) were independent biological indicators for the occurrence of ED.CHI3L1, Lp-PLA2, MIF, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and α-Syn were unrelated to ED. Plasma BACE1 level had a possible diagnostic value for ED [area under curve (AUC) = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.66–0.85], whereas plasma IL-6 (AUC = 0.62, 95% CI: 0.51–0.73) and S100B (AUC = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.54–0.76) levels had little diagnostic value for distinguishing ED vs. non-ED.Conclusion: Higher levels of systemic inflammation marker IL-6, cerebral inflammation marker S100B, and neurodegeneration-associated marker BACE1 are related to ED. Plasma BACE1 may be a potential diagnostic biomarker for ED.

To make full use of the massive monitoring data accumulated in China high-speed railways, an improved statistical process control (SPC) framework was introduced to analyze the discontinuous monitoring data of the track system on a high-speed railway elevated station. Multilinear regression models and time series difference equation (TSDE) models were first developed to separate common-cause variations in the monitoring data. Then, individual control charts, moving range control charts, and exponentially weighted moving average control charts were constructed to detect special-cause variations. Results showed that the variations of girder displacement and track slab–girder relative displacements mainly resulted from temperature effects and linear trends related with material damages. Moreover, visible serial dependence was found in the regression model residuals, which could be effectively captured by the TSDE model. Numerous outliers were detected at the measuring points of rail–track slab displacement 15 and track slab–girder relative displacement 17 by more than three control charts, implying higher sensitivity to special causes. With respect to the special causes triggering the anomalous responses of local and overall track systems, sixteen and twenty-eight significant special events were detected, respectively.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the potential of strategic environmental assessment (SEA) to mainstream consideration of climate change adaptation (CCA) in Bangladesh, particularly for the coastal zone, to improve disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies in this region. Continuing climate risks require adaptation at all levels of society. The densely populated and resource-rich coastal zone of Bangladesh is at risk to the impacts of climate change. Design/methodology/approach - This research is based on secondary sources (gray and published literature) of information on climate change impacts on the coastal zone of Bangladesh. The sources include research reports, online publications, governmental reports, scientific journals, international reports, books, journal articles and other academic resources on SEA, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and DRR. In addition to examining SEA in Bangladesh, this paper investigates SEA cases in different countries to obtain insights from the successful application of SEA for CCA. Findings - The paper draws on several cases from different countries demonstrating that SEA has a significant potential to coordinate CCA objectives. The findings reveal that the appropriate use of SEA can enable DRR through CCA. Originality/value - This study argues that SEA has a potential role in supporting CCA.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a severe disorder caused by medications or genetic mutations. D5 dopamine receptor (D5R) gene knockout (D5-/-) mice have cardiac hypertrophy and high blood pressure. To investigate the role and mechanism by which the D5R regulates cardiac function, we generated cardiac-specific human D5R F173L(hD5F173L-TG) and cardiac-specific human D5R wild-type (hD5WT-TG) transgenic mice, and H9c2 cells stably expressing hD5F173L and hD5WT. We found that cardiac-specific hD5F173L-TG mice, relative to hD5WT-TG mice, presented with DCM and increased cardiac expression of cardiac injury markers, NADPH oxidase activity, Nrf2 degradation, and activated ERK1/2/JNK pathway. H9c2-hD5F173L cells also had an increase in NADPH oxidase activity, Nrf2 degradation, and phospho-JNK (p-JNK) expression. A Nrf2 inhibitor also increased p-JNK expression in H9c2-hD5F173L cells but not in H9c2-hD5WT cells. We suggest that the D5R may play an important role in the preservation of normal heart function by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species, via inhibition of NADPH oxidase, Nrf2 degradation, and ERK1/2/JNK pathways. Abstract Background The Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) is widely used as a complementary screening tool for dementia. However, there are few studies concerning the efficacy of the IQCODE for assessing the severity of cognitive impairments in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the IQCODE for assessing the severity of dementia in patients with AD. Methods According to the clinical dementia rating (CDR), 394 patients with AD were enrolled and classified into three groups: mild, moderate and severe groups. The IQCODE scores of each group were determined by interviewing the informants with the short version of the 16-item IQCODE. The correlations of the IQCODE score with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale (DRS) and the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale (ADAS-Cog) were analysed. Statistical analyses were conducted to examine the differences in the IQCODE scores among the three groups. Results The validity coefficients of the IQCODE with the MMSE, DRS and ADAS-Cog were − 0.528, − 0.436, and 0.477, respectively. The sensitivity was 66.1%, and the specificity was 59.8% when using a cut-off score of 65 to discriminate between mild-moderate dementia. When 75 was used as the threshold between moderate-severe dementia, the sensitivity and the specificity were 73.9 and 67.7%, respectively. Conclusions The IQCODE is moderately effective for assessing the severity of cognitive impairment in patients with AD.

In order to screen for a proper baking condition to improve flavor, in this experiment, we analyzed the effect of baking on the flavor of defatted tiger nut flour by electronic tongue (E-tongue), electronic nose (E-nose) and headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS). According to E-tongue and E-nose radar plots and principal component analysis (PCA), baking can effectively change the taste and odor of defatted tiger nut flour, and the odors of samples with a baking time of >8 min were significantly different from the original odor of unbaked flour. Moreover, bitterness and astringency increased with longer baking times, and sweetness decreased. HS-SPME-GC-MS detected a total of 68 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in defatted tiger nut flour at different baking levels, and most VOCs were detected at 8 min of baking. Combined with the relative odor activity value (ROAV) and heat map analysis, the types and contents of key flavor compounds were determined to be most abundant at 8 min of baking; 3-methyl butyraldehyde (fruity and sweet), valeraldehyde (almond), hexanal (grassy and fatty), and 1-dodecanol, were the key flavor compounds. 2,5-dimethyl pyrazine, and pyrazine, 2-ethylalkyl-3,5-dimethyl- added nutty aromas, and 1-nonanal, 2-heptanone, octanoic acid, bicyclo [3.1.1]hept-3-en-2-ol,4,6,6-trimethyl-, and 2-pentylfuran added special floral and fruity aromas.

Nickel-induced contact dermatitis is a severe allergic reaction to objects or environments that contain nickel. Many nanomaterials have been developed to reduce skin allergies by capturing nickel, but few agents are effective and safe. In this work, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) were synthesized and decorated with hexa-histidine peptides (denoted as MSN-His6), making it a strong nickel chelator. Subsequently, a dietary polyphenol, chlorogenic acid, was loaded into the mesopores of MSN (denoted as MSN-His6@CGA), realizing the potential of its anti-inflammatory properties. In vitro and in vivo experiments revealed that the synthesized MSN-His6@CGA nanoparticles exhibited more stable and stronger chelation, better biocompatibility, and ideal allergy-relieving ability, whether for environmental metal contamination or for allergic contact dermatitis caused by prolonged nickel exposure. Thus, the application of mesoporous silica-based nanoparticles may represent an ideal approach to alleviate skin allergies by capturing nickel, which would benefit people who suffer from metal-induced contact dermatitis.

In this study, a three-dimensional simulation of a fish-like body swimming in a channel with non-slip walls was carried out to investigate the effects of kinematics on swimming performance. Self-propelled swimming in an inertial coordinate system was examined by using the direct forcing immersed boundary method. The fish body consisted of several rigid bodies and behaved analogously to a multi-segment robotic fish. The computational program was first validated by simulating fluid flow around a circular cylinder at Reynolds number (Re) =100 and Re = 1000, as well as around a settling particle. The results were compared with experimental and numerical results from past research in the area. A virtual parametric study of the tail-beat frequency, phase difference between neighboring body segments, and body amplitude was then conducted. The effect of the lateral and vertical distance between the model body and walls on swimming performance is also discussed. The results for the velocity and vorticity fields around the model body provided evidence for the mechanism of thrust generation and highlighted the effects of kinematics on swimming performance.

2D materials with exotic electronic properties are increasingly important for the development of low-dimensional electronic devices. Here, Huet al. have developed a fast and efficient method to synthesize 2D metal oxides and hydroxides, further enabling 2D electronics.

In order to find out the influence of subgrade frost heave on the deformation of track structure and track irregularity of high-speed railways, a nonlinear damage finite element model for China Railway Track System III (CRTSIII) slab track subgrade was established based on the constitutive theory of concrete plastic damage. The analysis of track structure deformation under different subgrade frost heave conditions was focused on, and amplitude the limit of subgrade frost heave was put forward according to the characteristics of interlayer seams. This work is expected to provide guidance for design and construction. Subgrade frost heave was found to cause cosine-type irregularities of rails and the interlayer seams in the track structure, and the displacement in lower foundation mapping to rail surfaces increased. When frost heave occured in the middle part of the track slab, it caused the greatest amount of track irregularity, resulting in a longer and higher seam. Along with the increase in frost heave amplitude, the length of the seam increased linearly whilst its height increased nonlinearly. When the frost heave amplitude reached 35 mm, cracks appeared along the transverse direction of the upper concrete surface on the base plate due to plastic damage; consequently, the base plate started to bend, which reduced interlayer seams. Based on the critical value of track structures’ interlayer seams under different frost heave conditions, four control limits of subgrade frost heave at different levels of frost heave amplitude/wavelength were obtained.

The vibration effect of urban rail transit has gained attention from both academia and the industry sector. Long Elastic Sleeper Track (LEST) is a new structure for vibration reduction which has recently been designed and applied to Chinese subways. However, little research has been devoted to its vibration reduction effect. In this study, field tests were conducted during peak transit hours on Beijing Subway Line 15 to examine the vibration reduction effects of the common ballastless track and LEST on both straight and curved sections. The results demonstrate that although LEST increases the wheel-rail vertical forces, rail vertical displacements, and rail accelerations to some extent, these effects do not threaten subway operational safety, and vibrations of track bed and tunnel wall are positively mitigated. LEST has an obvious vibration reduction effect at frequencies above 40 Hz. In straight track, the vibration of bottom of the tunnel wall measured in one-third octave bands is reduced by 10.52 dB, while the vibration at point on the tunnel wall at 1.5 m height is reduced by 9.60 dB. For the curved track, the vibrations at those two points are reduced by 9.35 dB and 8.44 dB, respectively. This indicates that LEST reduces vibrations slightly more for the straight track than for the curved track.

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) has been used for centuries as a preservative in winemaking. However, the addition of SO2 is associated with allergic reactions and can negatively affect wine quality. In our work, chitooligosaccharide (COS) was applied as an alternative to SO2 in winemaking, and its antimicrobial activity during winemaking was investigated in comparison with the action of SO2. The optimal concentration of COS was identified as 500 mg/L. The antimicrobial effect of COS was evaluated using known and our own separated wine spoilage organisms. The antimicrobial effect of 500 mg/L COS was found to be comparable with that of 100 mg/L SO2. Furthermore, using 500 mg/L COS as an additive during winemaking did notinfluence the cell growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Therefore, COS can be used as an additive in winemaking.

In this paper, a composite patch antenna based on left handed material (LHM) with near zero index (NZI) is presented. This composite patch antenna is designed by assembling split resonant rings (SRRs) and metal strips on the substrates. This multilayer composite structure results in a metamaterial with NZI near 13.89 GHz. A method of finite difference time domain (FDTD) is used. The results show that the composite antenna’s gain improves 0.61 times, and its bandwidth adds 2.95 times compared to the conventional antenna’s ones. The results indicate that this composite patch antenna system can reduce return loss of the antenna and increase the gain obviously.

With the rapidly developing of mobile internet and the commercial use of 4G, monitoring the service traffic becomes more and more important to operators. Firstly, a scheme for synthesizing xDR based on transport stream was given, after decoding preprocessing for the data of mobile packet network. Then the service identification and statistics of mobile packet network were implemented by using the complementary advantages for DPI（deep packet inspection）and DFI（deep flow inspection）technology. According to the test of current network data, this scheme works well for xDR synthesizing and service identification, with high efficiency and accuracy. It is of great significance to optimization of mobile packet network in 4G era.
