Drought and high temperatures are among most dangerous attributes of climate change, which negatively affects the quantity and quality of sugar beet production. One of the most effective tools for eliminating unwanted effects is the application of biostimulants during the growing season. In this study, a 4 × 3 factorial scheme was adopted: Two biostimulant treatments, namely (i) pure extract from brown seaweed Ascophylum nodosum (B1) and (ii) concentrate from the seaweed Ascophylum nodosum and humus substances (B2), were compared to a control treatment (B0) in an experiment with four sugar beet varieties (Fischer, Fabius, Nicolaus, Lucius). The two-year research proved the significant influence of biostimulants on all monitored physiological and production parameters of sugar beet, with the exception of potassium content. Biostimulants positively influenced the results of root yield, polarized and white sugar yield, and the values of LAI (leaf area index), NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index), and PRI (photochemical reflectance index), while the positive effect on sugar content was only in the case of B1 treatment. The production potential fluctuated significantly depending on the observed interaction, but it can be concluded that the most limiting factor of production is the course of weather conditions. However, after treatment with biostimulants, an increased root yield (B2) and sugar content (B1) were found. Moreover, in this experiment, a strong positive relationship between root yield and physiological parameters (NDVI and PRI) and LAI was proven, while the relationship of sugar content to these parameters was weak. Monitoring of the physiological response to biostimulant application shows a high potential from the sustainability perspective in the context of sugar beet production. In the field experiments carried out in 2019 – 2020 on the plots of PD Špačince, the influence of agroclimatic conditions of the year on the yield of roots and sugar content of 9 varieties (Alabaster, Francessa, Jagiellon, Klara, Livius, Nicolaus, Pegasus, Punkta Terra) of sugar beet was studied. The plots of PD Špačince are located in a beet production area at an altitude of 153–179 meters above sea level. The area belongs to the warm, very dry areas of Slovakia. By evaluating the results of the experiments, we have established a highly significant influence of temperature and humidity conditions of the tested years, as well as of the variety, on the root yield and sugar content. In 2020, a higher average root yield was achieved in the experiments (81.12 t·ha–1), while in 2019 a lower average yield of 74.59 t·ha–1 was recorded. The highest root yields were achieved in both years by the Pegasus variety, 95.75 t·ha–1 in 2020 and 84.88 t·ha–1 in 2019 with declared tolerance to drought. With a higher root yield in 2020, we also observed a higher yield variability of the tested set of varieties in the range of 22.79 t·ha–1 compared to 2019 with a root yield range of 19.47 t·ha–1. The average sugar content of the tested varieties was statistically significantly different between the years, with a higher average sugar content in 2019 (14.45%), while in 2020 the average sugar content was 14.25%. Statistically, the highest average sugar content in the tested years was found in the Nicolaus variety (15.9%). None of the varieties had individually statistically significantly different sugar content when comparing the same variety between the climatically different years 2019 and 2020, which indicates a higher stability of sugar content compared to the sugar beet root yields in the tested location. The article deals with the effect of foliar Se application on macro-and micro-elements and selected quantitative parameters (the content of ash, starch, and fat) in oat grains. The three-year experiments were carried out on Research and Breeding Station Vígľaš - Pstruša in the years 2014, 2015, 2016. The used oat variety was Valentin. The experiment was performed by a block method within a parcel size of 10 square meters (8 x 1.25 m) with the span of rows amounting to 0.125 m in four replications. Alfalfa was grown as forecrop. A potato and wheat production area (III-C2) with a height of 375 m above the sea level. The experimental area is characterized by warm, slightly wet weather with an average annual temperature of 7.8 °C and average annual precipitations of 666 mm. Basic fertilizing was planned before the sowing in the form of 100 kg of Ammonium nitrate containing dolomite (27% N), 100 kg of 60% KCl (60% of K2O), and100 kg of MAP (Monoammonium phosphate 12% N and 52% P2O5). Selenium was foliar applied in doses 25 g and 50 g Se per hectare in a solution form of sodium selenate (Na2SeO4). The harvest was realized by a small plot harvester in BBCH 91. The results of the experiments showed a statistically non-significant effect on microelements and most macroelements. Only sulfur content in oat grains was statistically significantly influenced by Se foliar treatment. The contents of ash, starch, and fat in oat grains were monitored, which showed statistically significant effect only in fat. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen nutrition on the content of fatty acids and selected qualitative parameters (nitrogenous substances, ash, crude fiber) in winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.). The experiment was carried out at the Vígľaš—Pstruša Research and Breeding Station in 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 by complete block design with four repetitions. Nitrogen fertilization was applied at four levels, plus an untreated control (after agrochemical soil analysis) by DAN 27 (Dolomite Ammonium Nitrate): 100, 120, 140, and 160 kg/ha N. Application date was in BBCH scale phase 59–60. The fatty acid contents (MUFA—monosaturated fatty acids; PUFA—polyunsaturated fatty acids) were determined by gas chromatography in the extracted fat, which is determined by extraction method. Within the result evaluation, statistically significant increases in the contents of linoleic and linolenic acids were recorded in all variants treated by nitrogen fertilizer, which is positive in terms of the use of rapeseed oil for food and energy purposes. The statistically significant decrease of oleic acid after the application of nitrogen fertilizers is negative for industry use of rapeseed oil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
