This study reviewed the advancements of Agriculture 4.0 in mechanized sugarcane harvesting, analyzing the efficiency of the mechanized harvesting system and evaluating the impact of the harvesting, loading, and transportation process costs. The mechanized sugarcane harvesting system in the 2020/21 harvest reached 91.6% or approximately 588 Mg in Brazil. As this activity demands a high amount of capital - assets, labor, inputs - the cost of the harvesting, loading, and transporting process represents 40% of the sugarcane production cost. The continuous delivery of raw material to the industrial processing unit is essential to ensure stability and maximum yield for obtaining sugar and ethanol, especially in an environment with geographical dispersion of harvesting fronts and agronomic factors linked to crop management. Therefore, tools that enable real-time equipment tracking benefit process management. Digital agriculture, defined as the application of technologies that seek to add intelligence and process automation, allows for improved agricultural management of farms, making it possible to reach new productivity levels in the field. The data generated through digital agriculture allows for the creation of models to construct scenarios that improve decision-making, both in terms of operational strategies - distribution of resources by harvesting front - and long-term strategies - the adoption of new technologies in the process.

This research article presents the results of implementing a didactic design based on the "hourglass model" for teaching ecology. This model is based on environmental history and the interactions among organisms in space-time systemically. This study was conducted with 16 high school students from a public school in Bogotá, focusing on wetland ecosystems as a reference. The guiding activities were based on modeling, environmental history, and georeferencing. These activities included: 1) a field trip to the Torca wetland, and 2) a video about the environmental history of wetlands in Bogotá. The students, in pairs, constructed models that reflected their initial perception of the wetland, which were cotinually refined through socialization and feedback until they arrived at a more complex second version. This research has a qualitative approach and is a multiple-case study. For analysis, NVivo software was used with three pre-established categories: the material model, the intercultural approach, and socio-ecological factors. Both versions of the models were considered, and word clouds were generated from the transcriptions of the presentations. Among the results, it is highlighted that students were able to georeference bodies of water, eastern hills, roads, garbage, and buildings, not only from the video but also thanks to the experience on the field trip. Most students understood past events as a result of current socio-cultural and environmental conditions. The models, as a didactic resource, demonstrate the importance of developing models as sensory tools that facilitate the construction of explanations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scientific investigations on the dynamics of plant communities promote appropriate strategies for management of natural forests, with conservationist or sustainably exploratory purposes. This research aimed to evaluate accuracy of regression models to project diameter growth and calculate passage time by diametric class of stems in an Atlantic Forest fragment under recovery. The work was carried out in a fragment of 2.53 ha in São João Evangelista municipality (MG). Inventory was performed at 80 and 104 months after starting the recovery process. Annual periodic increment (API) in diameter data was used to calculate passage time and relative age. Temporal estimates for reaching the minimum diameters of 5, 10, 20, and 30 cm were 5, 9, 15, and 21 years, respectively. It is concluded that the logistic and Curtis models, adapted for the IPA estimation, are efficient for analysis of passage time, providing accurate information on growth dynamics within the fragment under study. Fragments during forest recovery may exhibit similar growth rates between diameter classes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study paper looks into the structural integrity and failure mechanisms of washing machine top frames, with the goal of improving household appliance durability and reliability. Critical regions prone to fatigue failure were identified using SolidWorks software. Stress analysis and deformation analysis revealed the failure prone areas but upon assessing the costs associated with designing new molds for modified design and performing the breakeven calculation, we decided to go with an approach of using an alternate material which will not cause any change in existing mold. Polycarbonate (PC) with 50% long glass fiber reinforcement, were investigated to improve fatigue resistance. A new top frame of this material was made along with existing material ABS. Testing on a door simulator machine demonstrated a considerable improvement in durability, with the PC-based top frame demonstrating a 1128% increase in cycle endurance over the ABS counterpart. Top frame made up of ABS broke after 297 cycles and PC with 50% long glass fiber top frame broke after 3697 cycles. These findings highlight the significance of systematic design optimization and material selection for assuring long-term performance and safety in washing machine top frames. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ALTERNATIVE education , *PRAXEOLOGY , *BASIC education , *RESEARCH methodology , *POSSIBILITY - Abstract
This article is an excerpt from doctoral research that investigated the limits and possibilities of the didactic methodology study and research path (SRP), of the anthropological theory of the didactic (ATD), as a teaching alternative for basic education in Brazil. We started the research by considering the following question: How can we find the shortest possible route connecting an origin (O) and a destination (D)? This problem led us to consider the development of what in ATD is called the reference epistemological model (REM). The REM model must be explained whenever you want to formulate an authentic didactic problem or study-generating question. This work initially presents a comparison of the modeling between ATD and other theoretical currents and then an example of an epistemological reference model based on the problem of choosing the shortest access path from one point to another under certain conditions. We consider the objective of this article to relate, through the notion of praxeology, the possibility of modeling in the light of ATD. The comparative study shows us that modeling within the scope of ATD is not an object to be taught nor a means to learn and teach certain mathematical concepts. The main characteristic of modeling in ATD consists of the elaboration and experimental contrast of epistemological mathematics models to approach didactic problems as a provisional hypothesis, which can be modified while developing an SRP. NATIVE species , *BIOLOGICAL extinction , *ECOLOGICAL niche , *INTRODUCED species , *ECOLOGICAL models - Abstract
One of the most common environmental impacts that has caused irreversible effects on ecosystems is the introduction of exotic species. In addition to the ecological disasters that can be caused, such as the decline and extinction of native species, this phenomenon can generate significant economic losses and the possibility of the spread of parasites that are transmitted by these exotic species. These processes can be accentuated by climate change, which over time alters the global distribution pattern of the affected species, generating cases of niche overlap with species that share similar niches. In this sense, the knowledge about the areas with possible occurrence these species can direct the monitoring and control measures. In this study, we developed current and future prediction models to identify areas of suitability in the Neotropics for Melanoides tuberculata (Müller, 1774) and nine species of mollusks native to the American continent using the ecological niche modeling tool. In addition, we evaluated the ecological niche overlap between the invasive species and the native species of freshwater mollusks to verify whether the effects of climate change would alter the distribution of these organisms. The following methodological procedures were adopted to prepare the forecasting models: records of occurrence of the mollusks in different databases and search of environmental data for climate conditions in current and future scenarios in WorldClim 2.0 (SSP2-4.5 and SSP2-8.5). Besides, modeling procedures using seven packages of R software, evaluation of the models using the true skill statistic (TSS) metric, construction of maps and quantification and overlapping of ecological niche of the species included in the analysis. The results indicated that several areas of the Neotropics are suitable for the occurrence of M. tuberculata in the current scenarios. Moreover, the suitable areas for its occurrence will probably be expanded in both future scenarios. For native species, there were significant differences in relation to the areas of suitability, with a reduction for some species. Niche similarity tests indicated significant overlap only between M. tuberculata and the planorbid Biomphalaria straminea (Dunker, 1848). We discuss that the expansion of M. tuberculata can have negative consequences, including the reduction of native gastropod species and the spread of trematodes of medical and veterinary importance that this mollusk can transmit.

Logo, indica a aplicabilidade do uso do software PHREEQC, no contexto deste trabalho.

SECONDARY school students , *RASCH models , *IMMUNITY , *LEARNING , *VACCINES - Abstract
This article investigates the knowledge of secondary school students about immunity and vaccines, using an open-ended questionnaire along with its evaluation rubric. Thus, the rubric includes four response categories for each question, whose meanings reveal the kinds of ideas held by the students. The qualitative results obtained show ideas that are not very consistent with the referent learning model for immunity; however, an analysis of Rasch shows articulated knowledge, which is evidence through the unidimensionality of the measurements obtained. This suggests the possibility of using them as a guide to a possible progression itinerary that facilitates student learning over the course of their education. These results not only have implications at a theoretical and classroom practice levels, but also entail the validation of the rubric constructed for use with this student population. Identifying, quantifying and spatialising factors that condition water erosion processes, such as erosivity, can help to understand the process of sediment input to watercourses and, in this specific case, to hydroelectric plant reservoirs. The aim of this study was to estimate and spatialise rainfall and erosivity indices in the Area of Direct Influence (AID) of the Batalha reservoir (GO/MG). Using the database provided by the National Water Agency's (ANA) HIDROWEB portal, the equation proposed Silva et al. (1997) was adopted, and to measure the accuracy of the erosivity estimation models, the Fournier index (1958) was adopted for rainfall in the region, for a historical series from 1991 to 2021. To do this, the estimates took into account monthly and annual rainfall and their spatial variability for the south-eastern regions of Goiás and north-western Minas Gerais. By means of a descriptive analysis and spatialisation of the Erosivity Index (EI), in the study of annual variability, there was a tendency for it to increase in an approximately north-south direction, towards the south and centre-south. Similarly, in the study of monthly variability, there was an increase in the EI also in an approximately north-south direction, towards the south and centre-south, in the months with the highest rainfall. It was also observed that the months with the highest rainfall, corresponding to the spring and summer seasons, had the highest Erosivity Indices, classified as high and very high, except for October. For the drier months, corresponding to autumn and winter, these indices were classified as low and very low. Overall, the average annual erosivity was classified as high. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BIOLOGICAL invasions - Abstract
Today biological invasion is one of the most dangerous threats to biodiversity and there are only few tools to monitor and control. This study structure and tested the potential of niche modeling procedures from data of occurrence of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg, and Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A.Gray, using the algorithm GARP and MaxEnt, associated with sets of environmental variables, in order to develop tools not yet used to predict invasion risk in the State of Santa Catarina. The potential niche models generated with GARP and MaxEnt algorithms proved efficient to generate potential niche models for species, indicating locations with risk of biological invasion. From this study it was observed that the niche modeling for invasive species represents an important tool for the mapping of invasions established and niche prediction for invasive species. These ecological niche models generated from the GARP and MaxEnt algorithms can provide relevant information on areas with risk of invasion to Tithonia diversifolia and Hovenia dulcis and may become a tool of institutional control in anticipation of new invasions and tracking the spread of invasive species in the State of Santa Catarina. DISTANCE education - Abstract
The pandemic situation has forced teaching and learning practices around the world to reassess their systems and innovate in terms of ergonomics. Highly visible changes have overturned teaching and learning habits. Initially highly improvised, distance learning in Moroccan schools has taken its first steps through repeated trial and error until it has established itself as a possible educational tool. Teachers and decision-makers, in unison, are faced with the urgent need to reinvent education and combine it with technology. A plethora of formats and platforms are now part of the vocabulary of education. However, in addition to diligent health conditions, distance learning is required to break with the accidental nature of its advent and become an optional, alternative or even blended mode. This study looks at the forms of distance assessment that need to be implemented in order to capitalise on, verify and enhance learners' achievements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STANDARD deviations , *WOOD , *FOREST surveys , *FOREST dynamics , *ARTIFICIAL neural networks , *BIOMASS conversion ,WOOD density - Abstract
Forestry measurement is aimed at volumetric production of wood; however, for the pulp processing industry, the main interest is productivity in wood biomass and, to know this variable, it is necessary to determine the basic wood density (BWD) beforehand. Artificial neural networks (ANN) have been used in the forestry sector quite successfully to describe the dynamics of forest characteristics, such as estimating wood volume. In this context, the objective of this study was to assess the accuracy of the basic wood density estimates by means of ANN's with Continuous Forest Inventory (CFI) and edaphoclimatic input variables. The database consisted of 3,797 data, from permanent plots of the CFI conducted in Eucalyptus sp stands and edaphoclimatic data from the planting sites. The five best ANNs were selected and the analysis of the estimates was carried out through the correlation between the estimated and BWD, the relative root mean square error (RMSE%) and graphical information. It was observed that both the CFI, edaphoclimatic information and the combination of both are potential and present similar results for the basic wood density estimate, and the errors associated with the estimates are between 3.9% to 3.5%. The ANNs based only on the CFI information presented higher RMSE. The use of ANN's is feasible for estimating BWD and allows for excellent accuracy statistics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FUELWOOD , *CERRADOS , *IMAGE sensors , *PARKS , *AERIAL surveys , *AIRBORNE-based remote sensing , *DIGITAL image correlation - Abstract
Forest fuel quantification in a typical Cerrado area is difficult due to the high costs and long field times associated with collecting data. In search of alternatives that facilitate data collection, indirect estimation has been studied, resulting in local equations for predicting the load based on easily obtainable variables. In this context, we sought to develop local equations to estimate the load of forest fuel, in a Cerrado area, in the Cantão Park State - Tocantins. As a function of variables measured in the field and digital variables from the processing of RGB digital images (Red, Green and Blue) acquired through aerial surveys. With the processing of digital images, the following variables were extracted: mean height in the digital model (hMDA) and point density in the threedimensional model (DPM). After the aerial survey, field sampling was carried out, collecting the following variables: mean height in the field (hc), number of individuals (Qti) and Total Fuel Material (MCT). Subsequently, equations were fitted, adopting the entire sample set. The model selection criterion was based on R²aj, Syx% and residual graph, in which adjusted coefficient of determination (R²aj) from 0.12 to 0.83 and residual standard error (Syx%) of 19.4 were obtained at 44%. It was observed that the use of control points performed by the MDA reduces the occurrence of errors, the correlations between the analyzed variables indicate the importance of considering multiple factors when performing analyzes and predictions in the study areas. PALM oil industry , *OIL palm , *HEAT flux , *SENSITIVITY analysis , *AGRICULTURAL research , *LATENT heat - Abstract
The present work aims to calibrate the production of oil palm with interspecific hybrid (Elaeis guineensis Jacq and Elaeis oleifera (Kunth) Cortés) in the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) ECOSMOS model. The model was calibrated using sensitivity analysis techniques to identify the most sensitive parameters to oil palm production with interspecific hybrids. The calibration was validated using climate data observed in a commercial plantation, through a micrometeorological tower installed and operated by Embrapa. The climate data observed through the tower was also used as input into the model from 2014 to 2018, filled with data from era5 and nasa power. The current model predicts well the sensible heat flux (H), the radiation balance (Rn) and the exchange of CO2 with the ecosystem (NEE), however, it overestimates the latent heat flux (LE). After calibration, the model was able to better represent the observed production data with oil palm with interspecific hybrid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
