In recent years, developments in the explosive welding process have demonstrated that the process has many areas of application in the turbine field. This is a result of the process’s capability to weld a wide variety of the metals and alloys which are being utilized in turbines as well as recent applications of the process to fabricate complex shapes and structures which are often encountered in turbine components. This paper describes the successful application of explosive welding to actual turbine components as well as areas in which the process has potential for application in the future. Applications included in the paper include the repair of damaged bearings and shafts, application of protective claddings to selected areas, fabrication of complex channelled structures, and the welding of laminated structures.Copyright © 1974 by ASME
