Abstract
The article focuses on Karl Marx's theory on industrialization and modernization in non-Western countries. It particularly discusses Marx's conditions for modernization in Asia, which include the existence of private property in land, the emergence of land commercialization, and the existence of an individually oriented urban burgher culture. The author believes that Marx's theory on modernization should be incorporated into the literature and conceptual framework of contemporary research.
