The article discusses the new perspectives in social work education. The authors have included some discussion on what may be the social work profession's most productive training and educational role. Any system problem deals with personality, attitudinal and behavioral aspects. Changes in these areas are almost always imperative in achieving a satisfactory resolution to situational and long-standing difficulties. Significant learning, particularly for social workers in the area of interpersonal behavior, must confront this need for individual change, and this should be integral in the general educational goals set forth for professional social workers. These areas may well be modern man's greatest need. Communication and understanding are becoming more and more difficult. Ideas, concepts, and feelings are increasingly polarized. In this vital area significant learning cannot be separated from personal and organizational change. Many people ensnared in webs of insecurity, loneliness, and anxiety fearfully cling to old, unproductive attitudes and patterns of behavior.
