Governor Allan Shiver, in 1952 flew to Chicago and conferred privately with politician Adlai Stevenson. He said "Anti-Texas Adlai" was against "Texas Tidelands," and said that he as a loyal Texan would support U.S. President Dwight David Eisenhower. Eisenhower went to Houston, Texas and promised his fellow Texans that they, not the All-Powerful Federal Government, own "Texas Tidelands." On November 7, 1957, the United States Government sued Texas for the tidelands between the three-mile and the three-league (10.5 mile) limits.
