The article discusses the resemblance of fusain, a stick of black carbon material for drawing, among recent charcoal produced in forest fire. The paper considers certain fragments of carbon, which were interpreted as fossil charcoal produced by fire. It examines fusain in three floras: Eastern Greenland, a large delta formed during Rhaetic and Lower Liassic time; North Yorkshire, a large delta formed during Lower Oolitic time; and South Wales, sediments of Rhaetic or basal Liassic age filling fissures in Carboniferous Limestone.

The article presents an ecological study of the vegetation of West Greenland. With the exception of a strip of land of varying width round the coast, the whole of the country is covered with a continuous ice-field. In the spring, the whole of the smaller deltas, and the central regions of the larger ones, are almost entirely flooded, but during the summer their boulder-strewn surface is baked dry, except where it is intersected by the stream courses. In localities similar to those in which scrub of Salix glauca appears and often bordering on it, one encounters a more or less luxuriant growth of herbaceous plants which are not hardy enough to stand the conditions prevailing in more exposed situations.

The article presents a discussion about the growth and survival of plants in the arctic region. The article states that there are certain types of climates which affect the development of plants, producing abundant flowers and fertile seeds. It also explores the open association of plants which is termed as "fjaeldmark" using a study on the population of plant species on the said region in relation to their growth and survival. An investigation of plant distribution in Kangerdlugssuak area in East Greenland is given. Experiments on Luzula spicata, oxyria digyna, saxifraga nivalis, and other species resulted to a conclusion that only two- to three-folds of increase in their dry weight each year occurred due to shortage in carbohydrates and nitrogen.

The article offers information on vegetation types in Godthaab Fjord in relation to those in other parts of West Greenland and with special reference to Isersiutilik. It states that in June of 1928, through the courtesy of the Government of Greenland, the Oxford University Greenland Expedition set up a base camp at Isersiutilik, in the Kugssuk inlet of Godthaab Fjord. It states that the zoological work of the expedition comprised an analysis of the insect population and a census of the bird population, involving the mapping of every nest over 8.4 square miles. Moreover, the environment and vegetation are considered in so far as they manifest constant characteristics in large areas.
