The article focuses on a study related to the impact of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) in the diet of house sparrows and Japanese quail on the health of these birds. Adult house sparrows were captured on the Michigan State University campus. They were fed 25 grams of redworms sprayed with a 12% DDT solution twice a day. It was found that earthworms containing DDT and DDT solutions may cause bird mortality. Although there appears to be a direct relationship between survival time and the levels of the insecticide in the brain and liver of the birds, the data are not adequate for finding exact lethal levels.
