Lymphangiography has proven to be a simple and reliable method for the visualization of the thoracic duct. The performance of large numbers of lymphograms has allowed the identification of sufficient numbers of thoracic ducts to permit the recognition of its normal status and its abnormal conditions. Abnormalities of the thoracic duct can be grouped into four categories: 1. the anatomical or developmental variations, 2. traumatic lesions, 3. tumors, and 4. pathophysiologic changes. The significance of the lymphangiographic patterns in each category has been discussed and examples of these abnormalities have been presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
