The article reports on the emergence of a journalistic question on the ability of commercial photographer Ned Wells to prevent a suicide in San Francisco, California in April 1952. Wells spotted retired banker's wife E. Noel Durant while she was climbing over the rail of the Golden Gate Bridge. Durant jumped to her death after she saw that Wells was taking her picture. "San Francisco Chronicle" managing editor Larry Fanning stressed that Wells's action has influenced the decision of Durant to jump.
