Abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of estimating the probabilities of extreme-value 1-minute rainfalls when series of annual maxima for this duration are unavailable. A relationship between 1- and 5-min values from the corresponding storm and of readily available 5-min series of extremes are used to provide guidelines for estimating the 1-min probabilities Maps display the geographical distribution of both the mean and coefficient of variation from 5-min series.
